    *CHRISTOCENTRIC MEAL*
    *DR ABEL DAMINA*
    *THURSDAY APRIL 14, 2022*
    *THE REDEMPTION OF THE BODY*
*In 1st Corinthians 6 as earlier seen, our bodies are referred to as the temple of the Holy Ghost (verse 19), that is, where the spirit is and dwells. Now in the next verse he pointed out something important:*
1st Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Vs 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
He says that we are “bought” with a price, and therefore should glorify God in our spirits and bodies which are God’s. It implies to make a payment for something that is to be purchased or set free. In essence, he explained with the word “bought” to explain the fact that the body of the believer has been paid for and hence belongs to God.
However, this payment is different from the actual redemption from what has been paid for. Thus, while the body has been paid for, belongs to God, it is still in the same state. The spirit within is then explained as the pledge or security that the body has been paid for and therefore will be redeemed (a fact that lies in the future).
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Paul here showed that the body of the believer is yet mortal, but will be quickened (raised to life) by the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead that dwells in us. The proceeding verses explain in detail when and how this will happen.
Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Vs 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Vs 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Vs 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Vs 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Vs23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Vs 24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Vs 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
In the above verses, he used terms very similar to what he used in 2nd Corinthians 5.
    • the sufferings of this present time and the glory that shall be revealed in us (verse 18)
    • the phrase “the manifestation of the sons of God” (verse 19) used was explained in the next verses.
    • the creature will be delivered from the bondage of corruption, groans and travails, waiting for the adoption: THE REDEMPTION OF THE BODY.
This is explaining the manifestation (full disclosure) of the sons of God, an expectation and a hope. The proof that this will happen is the spirit that dwells in us. It is by the same spirit that our bodies will be quickened (made alive).
Therefore, the redemption of the body can be understood as the resurrection of the body, where it will be changed, mortality will put on immortality, corruption will put on incorruption and death swallowed up in victory!
Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Vs 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
1st Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Vs 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
Vs 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
This will be by the spirit that lives in us. Hence the seal of the spirit, the earnest of the spirit is that security that the physical body has been paid for, and though it is in a state of mortality will be changed, this is the redemption of the body.
*Confession: My body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. It has been paid for, it belongs to God. The spirit living in me is the proof and guarantee that my body will be redeemed. AMEN.*
