Now in the next verse he pointed out something important:* 1st Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Vs 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. He says that we are “bought” with a price, and therefore should glorify God in our spirits and bodies which are God’s. It implies to make a payment for something that is to be purchased or set free. In essence, he explained with the word “bought” to explain the fact that the body of the believer has been paid for and hence belongs to God. However, this payment is different from the actual redemption from what has been paid for. Thus, while the body has been paid for, belongs to God, it is still in the same state. The spirit within is then explained as the pledge or security that the body has been paid for and therefore will be redeemed (a fact that lies in the future). Vs 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. This will be by the spirit that lives in us.
