To those in the comments saying "High on nostalgia," it’s not about nostalgia-it’s about creativity! EA has lacked that since the Need for Speed: Carbon days. That was the last game to truly challenge players, back when games were games and not just glorified movies with graphics and cinematics. This new generation of gamers seems content with being blinded by flashy visuals and shallow experiences. The Need for Speed saga, along with early 2000s games like Juiced, Street Racing Syndicate, and the PS2 version of Tokyo Drift, were all influenced by Fast and Furious and focused on passionate car culture. These games celebrated car enthusiasts and street racing culture. Now, it’s all about supercars and gimmicks like airplanes. The heart of passionate car culture is lost, and many will never understand what it truly meant to be a car lover.
Before Underground, NFS was all about supercars the average player could never afford. I think Blackbox made a great tribute to these "classic" Need For Speed titles with Hot Pursuit II and found its own way starting with Underground. MW was peak Blackbox era and it's great to see to what level fellow enthusiasts are still modding and supporting that title. Still, Need For Speed Porsche stays my favorite in the whole series.
@@tannenfreund87 NFSU 1, 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon are simply the best. I couldn't even rank them because each one was great in its own way. They succeeded because they mixed everything: supercars, JDMs, and mid-tier vehicles all in one. They also added creativity, allowing you to continue driving the car you started with, making it more realistic in terms of modifications and mechanical enhancements that could compete against supercars. Sure, we have that now as well. The idea of police chases became a bit overrated, even in Most Wanted, but if you treat it as a video game, it's fine. Now, I don't mind realism, but it needs to be treated as "Need for Speed," not "Gran Turismo" or "Assetto Corsa"-those are specifically simulated games for a reason. Need for Speed is more of a movie-style game that captures the Fast and Furious vibe from the early 2000s, which people still love today. A good storyline doesn't kill the game. What kills the game is having silly characters with no passion for their work. There's a reason why car lovers do better voice acting than those who treat it as just a job-they speak the language of cars better. It's always been that way.
