I was going crazy watching those tiny kids running next to that dump truck and bus when they were towing it to the shop. I tell adults as well as children to stay back and stay where I can see you at all times when I moving equipment. Not trying to be an old fuddy dud. that's how kids get tough, today's kids are sissies with too many protections! - that's why modern kids are always sick and overweight, they are penned up inside with a TV or video game

Under 5 means underwheels they are to impulsive, they are just trying to help Mom or Dad and get run over or backed over, squished. It happens multiple times everyday in this country. Backup sensors and cameras have saved countless children and adults. You are entitled to your opinion but there is no way a 3 year old running in the blindspot while towing a 40' bus with a 30' dumptruck would ever hold up in court. I hope it never happens.
I was wondering if anybody was going to say it, when i saw the one kid kinda following the bus i thought what if that chain slips or breaks and it rolls back i wouldn't wish that on my greatest enemy.
Even in some rain soaked state in the south, it's inconceivabple that that much water could get through that sized aperture in a year... AND it's a curved tip, not just open to the sky. Someone stuck a hose into the stack and filled it up...and I've seen that happen before, with the same result.
Don't be afraid of DDEC, if the ECU isn't cooked everything else comes down to a solid mechanical 8v92. Yes, a TA in this case. I agree, swap in a known serviceable 8v92, and deal with spiffing the new engine as required. The old one can rest on a pallet as a source of needed pieces. Over the last 30 years or so, I've cut my teeth on the multiple generations of electronic engine management, with this in mind, DDEC isn't that troublesome. Hey, two years ago, I dealt with a Cummins 11M that had ten gallons of water in the intakes and turbo. What a flood! This was on a Monaco. Where'd the water come from? The three center clearance lights! Rain drained down the roof into the plenum. What a mess.
The Wanderlodge has the air intake on the roof and if the original snorkel on top is missing that’s where the water came from. You would have a six inch pipe straight into the turbo with only a air filter to slow it down. Sad it’s a nice bus even if it is painted like an Easter egg lol
That’s probably the most likely case. I’m sure some water got down the exhaust too but it’s very unlikely that the exhaust valves were open with the piston at the bottom of its travel.
If you're right about the 6" pipe, and assuming the volume was around 15 gallons, that translates to about 30 inches of rainfall. Eastern Texas can get 35" of rain in a year, and up to 48". And a lot of people in the comments seem to forget that rainwater is clear, especially when it's above all the metal of the block.
I have a 40' RV with intake on the rear roof at back , It has a 4x16" duct (mess wire covers opening on both sides of rear cam) coming down then at bottom has a 9" hole where it connects to a 2ft long 9" round air filter then pipes into the turbo. At the bottom it has a tube to let out any water that does get sucked in from driving in rain. I have driven in downpours for 3-6hours and sat in them idling for hours...NEVER had a issue with water even laying at the bottom of that 4"x 16" duct (check it every 6 months during servicing)...Your saying that you feel even if the cover is missing or was removed and not put back on , you think that engine would fill up with water? The roof isnt such that it channels all the water to the back and down the intake pipe...It is designed to channel water to sides as its rounded isn't it. Even with a missing cover , sorry no way it filled like that.Maybe after 10 years but not in a year...
Something that was brought up on the Wanderlodge forum is that this could be water from the domestic water system. Bluebird put an air purge line to the domestic water system, so if it is left open or sticks open you can force domestic water into the air system. Double check the air system for water, that would explain why the air filter is full of water, since the air compressor hose attaches to the air filter housing.
I think this one should be called the Waterlodge. I was under the impression that with a vertical exhaust there would be at least a weep hole for water to exit the system.
That engine was on the bottom of some lake. I have never experienced that much water damage to an engine that wasn’t in a severe flood. Thanks for sharing.
Scott, I hate to say this but someone put a garden hose in the exhaust stack! There is no way that much rain water got in there. My advise would be to run far far away from that place. There is more going on there than meets the eye!
Exactly what I said, someone put a hose in that stack, maybe trying to buy it and didn't like the price or home owners insurance might pay BIG for the vandalized RV. I wonder if it ever ran?

When I was about 5 years old I filled up the gas tank on my folk’s Chevy. I thought I was helping. With that many kids running around anything can happen.
This is the reason for the old 'flapper ' caps on the vertical exhaust pipes,even as annoying as the sound of the flapper is. The curved pipe would even get rain into it if the wind was blowing.I remember getting my first 'soot' bath from a truck that had a 2- stroke in it. My best friend and his brother used to have a garage and were working on a truck that a customer brought in that morning to get maintenance done on. Everyone there got a good laugh, even me. Their dad especially had a good one, as he drove ' Crackerbox Jimmies' for a co. , not too far away from the garage.
That young Jeep driver surprised me how responsible he was. On can tell when the children have been raised and instructed well. But having those kids under my feet when working would bother me. Just for their safety if nothing else. I showed my wife the Jeep introduction and she loved it. Kudos to those children's parents.
With enough time I guess getting that amount of water in through the exhaust is possible but my guess would be vandalism. It wouldn't be too hard to rig a 55 gallon drum, cheap 12 volt pump, and a section of garden hose in the bed of a pickup and pump the exhaust full of water, especially if it is sitting in an unattended spot. I'd be sure to keep an eye out while you're there to make sure nobody messes with your stuff.
Before you set out to a new destination, check the address out on Google Maps, then switch to satellite view. No more surprises as to road conditions etc. You see it all.
Man, I wouldn't put a dime into repairs for that WL until a lot more systems were checked and its full status is known. (wheel bearing, trans, diff, body structural, electrical, and knowing for sure how the water got in). Several things don't seem to add up but if anyone can figure it out, I'm betting Scott can. This big of a "surprise" more than suggests that there are more to come..... and seems to take "Hey Lance" to a whole new level ... yeow!

Fill the block with deseil let it sit for a couple of days everything will loosen up I've done this on far to many big rigs it always works good luck great video
Will need to transfer the hydraulic pump for the cooling fan motor and power steering as well as the engine temperature senders and fan stats on the road side thermostat housings. Also, keep the DDEC computer as that can be transferred. There is also a small oil line from above the starter which feeds a low oil pressure switch as well as the oil pressure sender on the dash which will need to be transferred..Filled that bad, better replace the muffler inside the riser as these have been known to rust through and burn the coach down.
Reminded me of the time I found out my roof was leaking and I had to stab a screw driver through the drywall on the ceiling to let the water drain out. That was about 10 gallons of water.

That is an impressive amount of water in that engine. This is the reason why you put Rain Cap on engine exhaust stacks or put a cover them. The first truck I ever drove an old AutoCar with a Buzz’en Dozen had straight pipes on it and every night when I parked it I slid a Coffee can over the the top of the stacks to avoid that ever happening to it. That said it is rather amazing how much water can be blown into an exhaust pipe I have a friend who had a an old Ford Dump truck with a Cummins in it and it had stacks with turnouts similar to that Wanderlodge and he parked it the day before the remnants of a hurricane was to blow threw our area and in less than a day of hard blowing rain it filled his engine with water. Fortunately for him the next day was sunny and beautiful and he noticed water drooling out the elbows of his stacks and investigated the situation before cranking the engine because couple of cylinders filled with water. He was able to pull the injections out of the engine and pump it dry and change the oil because it had water in it and the engine was no worse the wear. But had he cranked the engine it would destroyed his engine or at least been a very expensive repair.
That’s exactly what I thought too but there’s a comment above saying the air intake is on the roof and is missing the cover. If that’s the case it would make perfect sense because then water could actually run in from the roof.
I am in agreement with many of the posts--that bus had help getting filled with water. Exhaust stack is angled. He should have put a bucket over it, but still no way that much water could get in. Couldn't see how the air intake is routed, but I doubt the manufacturer would build it pointing straight up to catch water. They know it would likely be outside a lot. Too bad for the engine--it probably didn't have that many miles on it from the looks of the bus. Hope he gets a replacement for you to put in. I'd like to see how hard it is to do. I know a guy whose tractors that were stored outdoors were vandalized in a similar way. Fortunately he got to it before it did real damage.
On balance that seemed a tough day, but at least you had some yummy dinner! Loving those endings you include now, and shout out to all-round amazing Kelly!
So heart breaking to find the complete engine flooded with rain water. Really sad. Have never encountered one this bad. Must have been quite a blow to the owner.
Wow love to see the orginal unit up and running. Surely a strip down is the first and best course of action. Exhaust pipe needs a cowel and flap too. Just Luvin the vidoes. You Yanks have stacks of space and the comercial vehicles are just awesome.
DAMN this is prime example why buses need overhead shelters or inside storage worth the money to protect your ride, shew hate to see that for any owner,but she's in the best hands ever to be fixed
If that much water got in there and though to and filled the air cleaner in one year it would follow that an engine could take in enough water to be water locked with one good storm. I wonder if there was water in the crankcase. The air box had to be completely filled and under pressure to push it up to the air cleaner, with a piston up there would be nothing stopping it from leaking into the crankcase. Sounds like there is more to the story here. Maybe one of the kids were playing with a hose. There really should be a small drain on the exhaust someplace to prevent something like this.
@@COLLAR01 I would think that there should be a small drain on the exhaust piping so the water would never get to the engine in the first place. Any water in the air box had to come in past an open exhaust valve and through a cylinder to get to the air box. There is more to the story here.
That gas powered power wheels was awesome! I remember when I was a kid I had an electric power wheels that looked like the big foot monster truck it was slow as hell but I loved it!
It's around 100 plus or minus a few degrees all summer here, I live about 50 miles away. And summer lasted until mid-October in 2019. Amazing that it could build up that much water - you'd think it would evaporate being so hot. Maybe the kids put a garden hose up the tailpipe?
Don't feel bad Scott I have drove truck since I was 16 and I own a double trailer hay train people have me haul in on nasty roads like that and never say a thing some times I go 8 miles off road

I've seen this before, I once bought a tractor really cheap, because the previous owner parked it and didn't notice the exhaust flap was stuck open. Three months later the engine was full all the way up to the top of the muffler.
Is that two pairs of twins? Beautiful kids. I hope to God their father and mother keep them farther away from the equipment after this exiting and unusual experience.

He's got a nice bus - runs fine. Lives down undisclosed dirt road where the rain comes down sideways. Leaves bus outside with no weather preparation. ONE YEAR later decides to fire it up - no go. Calls BGM who takes it on. I hope it ends well.
Thank your mother for the fish and walk away, that has to be a deliberate flooding. It would take feet of rainfall to fill an engine through an uncapped air filter inlet
I worked on Detroit Marine engines and truck engines and I lived in Florida with all that rain never had that much water ever go into an engine even on a boat that was sunk in the water

The same thing happen to the US Navy experimental landing craft here in Alaska. No one bothered to cover the exhaust stacks and completely filled the engines costing millions to replace/repair.
SCOTT... You're in Texas right now? Stewart & Stevenson's world headquarters is in Dallas, and they also have a facilities scattered around TX. If you're not familiar with them, they are THEE Largest Detroit Diesel Re-manufacturer, rebuilder, custom DD engine designer & builder in the world, and also usually have a good stock of Good running take-outs... and they sell them (plus core charge, which is deducted IF the core engine is usable for re-manufacture... usually $2,000 to $2,500.+/- depending on engine). S&S has done all the R&D and manufacturing for special custom ordered engines for DD over the decades (ie: 32V71's, Vertical mount engines, dual fuel heads (NG & Diesel) for custom applications, etc, etc, etc.) and their Running Take Out engines are fully dyno tested, hoses replaced, dynamometer printout with the engine, and warranted, although I'm not sure for how long, but most DD reman's generally come with a New Engine warranty. They have shop facilities around the country (all over the world, actually) so if they don't have what you need in stock there in Dallas... they can pull one from one of their many locations... Have the engine ID code and model numbers handy so you get hooked up with the correct engine (as you know, I'm sure), wiring harness, turbo placement, etc. Here's a few S&S Texas ph. numbers for you... S&S.. Dallas - (214) 631 - 5370.... S&S.. El Paso - (915) 790 - 1848... S&S.. Corpus Christi - (361) 289 - 5350. Here is P/C Industries website up in Afton, WY... www.powerlinecomponents.com/index.html ...and here is their ph. number (877) 885 - 4724 P/C Ind. is excellent to deal with and are a DD Certified Master re-man & rebuild center which usually has a good selection of 2 cycle DD's and all their"take - outs" are fully checked out in their state of the art dynamometer cells so you know exactly what your getting in terms of condition and horsepower / torque outputs as they include the dyno printout with each engine, which also comes with a 90 day warranty / unlimited miles, against any major parts failure. They also change out ALL the external hoses with new hoses and fittings. Also Know.. that any really worthwhile DDEC 8V92T/TA take-out will run about $7,000 to $9,000. It is Not worth it to buy "cheap" from some unknown, with no dyno testing & printout, no warranty, and possibly the wrong parameters in the ecm for your application & perhaps even a "bad" ecm. The only way that I, myself would buy "privately" or from some other business, is if I saw and heard it running before they take it out, and I would be there to oversee the removal to make sure they didn't damage or remove accessories. Having said that, I just thought of another supplier up in Canton, OH.... Adelman's... ph. (330) 456 - 0206. www.adelmans.com/ I know these guys ship worldwide and they have a Large selection of "take outs" from all kinds of applications, so it's best to call with your information and what exactly you need for application. Also, I think they only show (pictures & prices) their take outs on their DD engine page.. would need to talk to them personally about their rebuilt engines or specifics on any particular "take out" of course. They're the largest recycler of truck engines and parts in N. America... so you never know what they might have, in a pinch. I know from the past, that Adelman's Take Out engine prices are more reasonable than numerous other venders.... but, what you see is what you get (maybe... as far as longevity... it could be a crap-shoot). Adelman's is basically a huge "recycling" operation for industrial, marine and truck engines and parts... have 180 acres of outside "goodies" and a 200,000 sq.ft. warehouse where they stock, test and catalogue all their removed engines and parts. Here's another quality Genuine DD parts and kits outlet for you.... Diesel Pro is a very reputable DD parts supplier you can add to your list, if you don't have them among you ph. numbers already... here's their direct DD parts page... dieselpro.com/detroit-diesel-parts/ ...and here is their ph. number... Wow. I would've died to have a little jeep like that when I was kid. Anyway, a used engine like that for those prices? Gosh, I spent that much on getting a rebuilt toyota v6 for our tiny rv. Of course, that was someone else doing the work. Love these wanderlodge episodes. Wouldn't mind having one. Thats why if you leave a truck or a bus parked you cover the exhaust stack and air in take. I have seen farmers do it to their vehicles if they park them outside.
It doesn't take much to fill up a crankcase or a transmission if you have a opening, in this case there was massive amount of water going directly into the intake, most intakes deflect rainwater, because they have a hood
That was crazy!!! Gen sets are a good donor for 2 strokes(mechanical). Im still puzzled how that much water could enter it. Ddecs are difficult to source now, if you do be sure to get the ecm with it.
If you get a ddec replacement, keep the original engine. The owner can take it apart over time and rebuild the parts so they have a supply of spares. This would still cost a lot but would help in keeping the bus running.
I would have politely asked the guy if he went thru a messy divorce or was fighting with his neighbor, because that was a deliberate act. As others have said there is _no way_ rain could do that. And it’s not random vandalism, that would have been just breaking windows or graffiti. Somebody stuck a hose in the stack and filled his engine with water to destroy it. And they succeeded. I would have also told him he needs to invest in a fence or cameras or a Rottweiler! 🤬
Yeah....definitely worth finding the actual source of infiltration and correcting it before another engine is ruined....I also echo the idea of a potentially missing intake snorkel if the ducting is vertical. Even still, though, the filter housing should've had a drain port to avoid this kind of damage. Interesting.....
I'm new to your channel but I find it very interesting how these Detroit diesels work wouldn't have putting an air starter on it give it that extra kick the kicker over and just Dounce the cylinders with WD-40 through the inspection ports get it moving again

The curved pipe would even get rain into it if the wind was blowing.I remember getting my first 'soot' bath from a truck that had a 2- stroke in it. My best friend and his brother used to have a garage and were working on a truck that a customer brought in that morning to get maintenance done on. Everyone there got a good laugh, even me. Their dad especially had a good one, as he drove ' Crackerbox Jimmies' for a co. , not too far away from the garage.
That young Jeep driver surprised me how responsible he was. On can tell when the children have been raised and instructed well. But having those kids under my feet when working would bother me. Just for their safety if nothing else. I showed my wife the Jeep introduction and she loved it. Kudos to those children's parents.
With enough time I guess getting that amount of water in through the exhaust is possible but my guess would be vandalism. It wouldn't be too hard to rig a 55 gallon drum, cheap 12 volt pump, and a section of garden hose in the bed of a pickup and pump the exhaust full of water, especially if it is sitting in an unattended spot. I'd be sure to keep an eye out while you're there to make sure nobody messes with your stuff.
Before you set out to a new destination, check the address out on Google Maps, then switch to satellite view. No more surprises as to road conditions etc. You see it all.
Man, I wouldn't put a dime into repairs for that WL until a lot more systems were checked and its full status is known. (wheel bearing, trans, diff, body structural, electrical, and knowing for sure how the water got in). Several things don't seem to add up but if anyone can figure it out, I'm betting Scott can. This big of a "surprise" more than suggests that there are more to come..... and seems to take "Hey Lance" to a whole new level ... yeow!

Fill the block with deseil let it sit for a couple of days everything will loosen up I've done this on far to many big rigs it always works good luck great video

Will need to transfer the hydraulic pump for the cooling fan motor and power steering as well as the engine temperature senders and fan stats on the road side thermostat housings. Also, keep the DDEC computer as that can be transferred.
There is also a small oil line from above the starter which feeds a low oil pressure switch as well as the oil pressure sender on the dash which will need to be transferred..Filled that bad, better replace the muffler inside the riser as these have been known to rust through and burn the coach down.
May need to rethink the whole exhaust system and have it more like Lenny.
Reminded me of the time I found out my roof was leaking and I had to stab a screw driver through the drywall on the ceiling to let the water drain out. That was about 10 gallons of water.

That is an impressive amount of water in that engine. This is the reason why you put Rain Cap on engine exhaust stacks or put a cover them. The first truck I ever drove an old AutoCar with a Buzz’en Dozen had straight pipes on it and every night when I parked it I slid a Coffee can over the the top of the stacks to avoid that ever happening to it. That said it is rather amazing how much water can be blown into an exhaust pipe I have a friend who had a an old Ford Dump truck with a Cummins in it and it had stacks with turnouts similar to that Wanderlodge and he parked it the day before the remnants of a hurricane was to blow threw our area and in less than a day of hard blowing rain it filled his engine with water. Fortunately for him the next day was sunny and beautiful and he noticed water drooling out the elbows of his stacks and investigated the situation before cranking the engine because couple of cylinders filled with water. He was able to pull the injections out of the engine and pump it dry and change the oil because it had water in it and the engine was no worse the wear. But had he cranked the engine it would destroyed his engine or at least been a very expensive repair.
Ten bucks those kids aimed the garden hose up at the exhaust pipe and just kept going. LOL!!

That’s exactly what I thought too but there’s a comment above saying the air intake is on the roof and is missing the cover. If that’s the case it would make perfect sense because then water could actually run in from the roof.
I am in agreement with many of the posts--that bus had help getting filled with water. Exhaust stack is angled. He should have put a bucket over it, but still no way that much water could get in. Couldn't see how the air intake is routed, but I doubt the manufacturer would build it pointing straight up to catch water. They know it would likely be outside a lot. Too bad for the engine--it probably didn't have that many miles on it from the looks of the bus. Hope he gets a replacement for you to put in. I'd like to see how hard it is to do.
I know a guy whose tractors that were stored outdoors were vandalized in a similar way. Fortunately he got to it before it did real damage.

So heart breaking to find the complete engine flooded with rain water. Really sad. Have never encountered one this bad. Must have been quite a blow to the owner.
Wow love to see the orginal unit up and running. Surely a strip down is the first and best course of action. Exhaust pipe needs a cowel and flap too. Just Luvin the vidoes. You Yanks have stacks of space and the comercial vehicles are just awesome.

Somehow I think he pissed someone off and a hose was put in there, rain seems hard to believe.
If that much water got in there and though to and filled the air cleaner in one year it would follow that an engine could take in enough water to be water locked with one good storm. I wonder if there was water in the crankcase. The air box had to be completely filled and under pressure to push it up to the air cleaner, with a piston up there would be nothing stopping it from leaking into the crankcase. Sounds like there is more to the story here. Maybe one of the kids were playing with a hose. There really should be a small drain on the exhaust someplace to prevent something like this.

@@COLLAR01 I would think that there should be a small drain on the exhaust piping so the water would never get to the engine in the first place. Any water in the air box had to come in past an open exhaust valve and through a cylinder to get to the air box. There is more to the story here.

That gas powered power wheels was awesome! I remember when I was a kid I had an electric power wheels that looked like the big foot monster truck it was slow as hell but I loved it!
It's around 100 plus or minus a few degrees all summer here, I live about 50 miles away. And summer lasted until mid-October in 2019. Amazing that it could build up that much water - you'd think it would evaporate being so hot. Maybe the kids put a garden hose up the tailpipe?

I've seen this before, I once bought a tractor really cheap, because the previous owner parked it and didn't notice the exhaust flap was stuck open. Three months later the engine was full all the way up to the top of the muffler.
That would be an incredibly difficult job, and it would be one pain in the neck after another as it was torn apart.

I worked on Detroit Marine engines and truck engines and I lived in Florida with all that rain never had that much water ever go into an engine even on a boat that was sunk in the water

The same thing happen to the US Navy experimental landing craft here in Alaska. No one bothered to cover the exhaust stacks and completely filled the engines costing millions to replace/repair.

Clue? Wet intake. Examine the inlet plenum, looking if it has topside space. The roof drains back to the edge, concentrating water.
SCOTT... You're in Texas right now? Stewart & Stevenson's world headquarters is in Dallas, and they also have a facilities scattered around TX. If you're not familiar with them, they are THEE Largest Detroit Diesel Re-manufacturer, rebuilder, custom DD engine designer & builder in the world, and also usually have a good stock of Good running take-outs... and they sell them (plus core charge, which is deducted IF the core engine is usable for re-manufacture... usually $2,000 to $2,500.+/- depending on engine).
S&S has done all the R&D and manufacturing for special custom ordered engines for DD over the decades (ie: 32V71's, Vertical mount engines, dual fuel heads (NG & Diesel) for custom applications, etc, etc, etc.) and their Running Take Out engines are fully dyno tested, hoses replaced, dynamometer printout with the engine, and warranted, although I'm not sure for how long, but most DD reman's generally come with a New Engine warranty.
They have shop facilities around the country (all over the world, actually) so if they don't have what you need in stock there in Dallas... they can pull one from one of their many locations... Have the engine ID code and model numbers handy so you get hooked up with the correct engine (as you know, I'm sure), wiring harness, turbo placement, etc.

P/C Ind. is excellent to deal with and are a DD Certified Master re-man & rebuild center which usually has a good selection of 2 cycle DD's and all their"take - outs" are fully checked out in their state of the art dynamometer cells so you know exactly what your getting in terms of condition and horsepower / torque outputs as they include the dyno printout with each engine, which also comes with a 90 day warranty / unlimited miles, against any major parts failure. They also change out ALL the external hoses with new hoses and fittings.
Also Know.. that any really worthwhile DDEC 8V92T/TA take-out will run about $7,000 to $9,000. It is Not worth it to buy "cheap" from some unknown, with no dyno testing & printout, no warranty, and possibly the wrong parameters in the ecm for your application & perhaps even a "bad" ecm. The only way that I, myself would buy "privately" or from some other business, is if I saw and heard it running before they take it out, and I would be there to oversee the removal to make sure they didn't damage or remove accessories.
Having said that, I just thought of another supplier up in Canton, OH.... Adelman's... ph. (330) 456 - 0206. www.adelmans.com/ I know these guys ship worldwide and they have a Large selection of "take outs" from all kinds of applications, so it's best to call with your information and what exactly you need for application. Also, I think they only show (pictures & prices) their take outs on their DD engine page.. would need to talk to them personally about their rebuilt engines or specifics on any particular "take out" of course. They're the largest recycler of truck engines and parts in N. America... so you never know what they might have, in a pinch.
I know from the past, that Adelman's Take Out engine prices are more reasonable than numerous other venders.... but, what you see is what you get (maybe... as far as longevity... it could be a crap-shoot). Adelman's is basically a huge "recycling" operation for industrial, marine and truck engines and parts... have 180 acres of outside "goodies" and a 200,000 sq.ft. warehouse where they stock, test and catalogue all their removed engines and parts.
Here's another quality Genuine DD parts and kits outlet for you.... Diesel Pro is a very reputable DD parts supplier you can add to your list, if you don't have them among you ph. numbers already... here's their direct DD parts page... dieselpro.com/detroit-diesel-parts/ ...and here is their ph. number... Of course, that was someone else doing the work. Love these wanderlodge episodes. Wouldn't mind having one. Thats why if you leave a truck or a bus parked you cover the exhaust stack and air in take. I have seen farmers do it to their vehicles if they park them outside.
It doesn't take much to fill up a crankcase or a transmission if you have a opening, in this case there was massive amount of water going directly into the intake, most intakes deflect rainwater, because they have a hood

That was crazy!!! Gen sets are a good donor for 2 strokes(mechanical). Im still puzzled how that much water could enter it. Ddecs are difficult to source now, if you do be sure to get the ecm with it.

If you get a ddec replacement, keep the original engine. The owner can take it apart over time and rebuild the parts so they have a supply of spares. This would still cost a lot but would help in keeping the bus running.

I would have politely asked the guy if he went thru a messy divorce or was fighting with his neighbor, because that was a deliberate act. As others have said there is _no way_ rain could do that.
And it’s not random vandalism, that would have been just breaking windows or graffiti. Somebody stuck a hose in the stack and filled his engine with water to destroy it. And they succeeded.
I would have also told him he needs to invest in a fence or cameras or a Rottweiler! 🤬

Yeah....definitely worth finding the actual source of infiltration and correcting it before another engine is ruined....I also echo the idea of a potentially missing intake snorkel if the ducting is vertical. Even still, though, the filter housing should've had a drain port to avoid this kind of damage. Interesting.....
Holy crap that was an extreme amount of water. Best thing for that engine now is making it a boat mooring.
I'm new to your channel but I find it very interesting how these Detroit diesels work wouldn't have putting an air starter on it give it that extra kick the kicker over and just Dounce the cylinders with WD-40 through the inspection ports get it moving again
That's why the railroads cap the exhaust stacks on any diesel locomotive which is placed in storage for any length of time.
