I played this song at the end of my Mom’s funeral. I believe she did fly away and certainly would approve. Great version. Artists are often not appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful version of an amazing hymn.
This song is timeless, well done. At seventy when you hear a song like this one, you are reminded of precious moments you were singing it, time travel.
My foot's sore from stompin the floor , this kinda music brings back sweet memories growin up in the country and goin to a bona fide old country church with folks who sang like this ...well done Ms Welch
It is awesome to see these two hold a room in awe of the talent and virtuosity. Two voices, two guitars (or banjo) and great songs that fill a hall. They command the stage.
Last year when these wonderful musicians came to Phoenix, I was delighted and startled. Normally I have to buy plane tickets to hear music this good, and there is no one else at all who makes music like these people.
@WarBeer you said it perfectly. My 22 year old son plays this and every toe in the house starts tapping and at about the same time we all join in singing it. It lifts the spirit in our home every time...
Beautifully done, old Southern Gospel song, I grew up on this in VA, I love this version of it, even better than the Stattler Bros and the Oak Ridge Brothers version.
This song brings back so many memories. Every Sunday morning in church to my grandfather whistling the tune while he was cooking. In 2009 we laid him to rest on that hill up in that field and as we did this song played.
That controlled "voice crack" (for lack of the real term to describe it) is incredible. Gillian does it here and there . . . holy crap. Whenever she says "away" during the chorus, like at 1:18. G.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.
TH-cam is my favorite site of all, great music & videos. But this is my #1 above all others most fav of them all - just wish someone had put it out on CD so we mortals could own it (legally - haha) Gillian & Dave MAGIC!
This is God's perfect duo. The Lennon & McCartney of folk/country. His amazing, subtle guitar work and quirky but somehow perfect harmonies. Her wonderful voice and flawless guitar texture. And they are just MADE for each other. If they ever break up, I cut off my ears.
Cool song. A great thing about the web: I can be looking for whatever and stumble upon something that I've never heard (or heard of) before and it opens up a complete new world for me. I got turned on to Diana Krall's music because I searched for Elvis Costello. That in turn led me to a video with the two of them doing Crazy with Willie Nelson, which led me to the Highwaymen done by Willie, Merle and Kris. And on and on it goes. It's a great time to be alive. These ARE the good old days!
I do the same thing at 40. This music is AWESOME! It begins in its lyrics and ends with its amazing harmonies. GILLIAN WELCH & DAVID RAWLINGS are GREAT together! p.s. Have a look at this Live Concert in the US - watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=TSMaOe4QoEY&feature=related
It's funny....SO many people have the same reaction from this tune. It's like some primal national anthem and it just rings right down to our DNA. This song is SO much more powerful than the title eludes to.
I'd known this song a long time when I totally lost it and started crying in an airport. The news was covering the death of the 7-year-old Half Moon Bay girl whose plane crashed in Colorado while she was trying to set a flying record. A good bluegrass band was singing this song at her memorial service in the background. The link to flying had something to do with it, but I still can't really explain why it hit me so hard. This is one powerful song if you let it be.
My mom requested this song be played at her funeral. I'm following her tradition and it will be played at mine.
60 years old, absolute best version of this song I've ever heard! both artists compliment each very well, playing and singing!
I played this song at the end of my Mom’s funeral. I believe she did fly away and certainly would approve. Great version. Artists are often not appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful version of an amazing hymn.
Gillian has a special "cry" in her voice. Nobody sings this song better than she does.
I agree, but I also really enjoy the kossoy sisters version as well.
I had thought of the word "crystalline" but I think your term is much better. Thank you
@@pittschapelfarm2844 I'm going with yodel.
It’s good to think ppl like Gillian are keeping this traditional music alive. Love it
This song is timeless, well done. At seventy when you hear a song like this one, you are reminded of precious moments you were singing it, time travel.
This blesses my country Christian heart. So may good memories tied to this song! My daddy's gonna fly away soon, I wanna hear this at his funeral.
Man I can listen to David Rawlings dissonant leads all day long. God that guy is just sick with talent.
Yeah ... it's just ridiculous!
lovely all day long
Couldn't agree more
Why you say dissonant leads? Don’t you mean consonant harmonies? 😊
He is too distracting. I want to hear hee but she likes him so...
this duo is like a fine wine ... you know the thing .
My foot's sore from stompin the floor , this kinda music brings back sweet memories growin up in the country and goin to a bona fide old country church with folks who sang like this ...well done Ms Welch
David ‘s playing and her voice.......WOW!! Friggin awesome!!
I love the creative license the lead guitar took with the song, absolutely great version of the song
Pure music at its finest. I respect these musicians than any other
if this doesn't give you chills or choke you up thinking about someone who has "flown away," then you have no soul to worry about! Love this version
Goodclips😂😂
Love your name. That’s some powerful medicine sister. This song has always made me bawl. Was me and my grandmas last song.
David Rawlings is my favorite acoustic guitar player. I’m reminded of that every time I hear him play.
I can still hear my great-grandmother singing this song.
Me and my cousins performed this at my grandmothers funereal, it was great.
Absolutely LOVE these two wonderful people. God bless them.
She's got the voice of an angel.
It is awesome to see these two hold a room in awe of the talent and virtuosity. Two voices, two guitars (or banjo) and great songs that fill a hall. They command the stage.
Miss my relatives who jammed out.
This is absolutely beautiful 😊❤️🌹🎶🎼
I love Gillian's voice and the way David jams on this beautiful song.
My Mama's song🕊 May 26, 2000
If there’s a god in heaven I hope he plays this song for me when I get there....just simply magical!!
When she smiles, the world is right.
I'm in love with these two , they affirm what it is to be alive
Last year when these wonderful musicians came to Phoenix, I was delighted and startled. Normally I have to buy plane tickets to hear music this good, and there is no one else at all who makes music like these people.
What a wonderful rendition of this lovely song. Thank you both so much. Ann Arrington/Mississippi
That was seriously gorgeous. Can't beat an all-encompassing harmony pulled off that good LIVE and not be amazing. Bravo!
This song always puts a smile on my face. Thanks for posting.
One of the most transformation sounds I have ever heard. She takes me to places most humbly indestructible.
My absolute favorite version of this song!!!
She does what she loves and she is both beautiful as a person and a musician. It may not be popular but it damn sure is real!
I love it - It does not get better than this.
Some bright morning when this life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
When the shadows of this life have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
Oh, how glad and happy when we meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

Brilliant musicians & singers nothing else needs to said. ✌️

I'm not much for religion, but when Gillian sings I feel God's presence
OMG love them soo much! Thank you for this sweet music which makes me fly away!

Frigging AMAZING.
The music kept me watching the movie.
My mom's favorite hymn.
Real country-gospel.
I wish I'd go to heaven when life ends, but I'm afraid where I'm going will take a plummet instead!
