    I find it easier to read for myself than for others. I do not look for certain answers and I do not have expectations. I take it how I'm meant to read it.

    Techniques like this are great when you feel that your emotions are trapped inside and you have no way to express them without fear. Often, saying it through Tarot first can lead onto more artistic, productive ways of expressing yourself. I have found that Tarot can open the floodgate for me when nothing else seems to be working :)

    I think that Tarot cards are really psychology cards, and your method of picking cards for yourself that really stand out is probably a good idea psychologically.

      Yeah, some psychotherapists recommend tarot cards for self development.

    Hi Kelly-Ann. This is such a keeper of a video! These techniques go far beyond reading cards for yourself. It's like ten tarot books in one short video. spectacular!! xx

    It's perfectly fine reading your own Tarot reading for yourself, l've been reading my own Tarot ever since l've bought my own Tarot cards for years and my first Tarot reading experience l did it by myself, not someone else and it was'nt bad at all and l also do Tarot readings for my friends and sometimes for family as well, without any payment, great blessings.

    Mary Greer is the one! :) I'm pleased you're going to try out the exercises. I genuinely think they're amongst the most helpful I've either devised or found elsewhere.

    I'm currently in my first semester of grad school to become a therapist and the while time I was watching this video, I just kept thinking about how great it would be to implement these techniques with clients in therapy. Thank you for making this video and sharing your ideas. I love listening to you!

    Loved this video! The thing about "drawing" with the tarot is something I do and blogged about a while back. It came to me after a sleepless night. I sat down and just threw cards down that showed how I felt. It was wonderful.

    I really liked your idea of peeling away the persona and ego of the card to get at it's subconscious. What a brilliant way to access one's own subconscious. That's what the Tarot is all about, accessing the intuition, and this is a top-notch method to do so. Thank you for sharing!

    I've found that the questions that I'm asking when I read for myself really make a difference as well. I tend to go to tarot looking specifically for, say, "What am I bringing to this situation that is complicating this?" - that is, I go specifically looking for what *I* can do to make a difference. And a lot of the time, the deck DOES tell me what I knew deep down, but was afraid to admit to myself. Then, of course, it's up to me to do something about it. Thanks for another great video!

    Thank you so much for these videos! I truly enjoy and appreciate your easy to understand guidance. I have been drawn to Tarot my entire life but only in the last few years have I actually owned and studied Tarot. I wanted to let you know that I find it easier to read for myself... I generally have an idea of where the cards are heading even if I don't actually "know" the definition for a particular card. I do journal everyday and I find it very cathartic. It may sound crazy but I find it easier to read for myself because I do understand what the underlying cards might mean even if I don't want to understand. In that sense I am afraid that if I read for someone else I may not understand the connection and may steer the querent in the wrong direction. Thank you again for all of you wonderful videos!

    i definitely struggle with personal readings. ive also noticed it is the same for when i do a reading for a close friend and i know whats going on in there life. it is hard to separate my self views and thoughts on the situation from the reading and just listen to what the cards have to say. thank you for this video!! will definitely try these practises

    I am *terrible* for nicknames. I use them all day with pretty much everyone in my life. My boyfriend alone is called poptart, pickle, sunshine, pudding, treacle, daisy, peach, badger, kitten.. Ugh, the list is endless.

    You crack me up Joanna. I was thinking the same thing. "Set them up for failure to keep them coming back and paying big time". Unfortunately I've been exposed to a lot of that on my journey which has taught me powerful lessons in discernment. I'm finally starting to loosen my stance on charging for services now but it has taken a lot of soul searching for me to do so.

    I don't have a long history of using tarot but I recently got myslef a deck of angel oracle cards. In my limited experience the cards have been very helpful! Just yesterday I picked it up, shiffled the deck and flipped the top card. It basically confirmed that I on the right path for me. Thay I'm headed in the right direction but I need to be diligent to keep working at it and my future will be transformed! Love tarot:)

    Powerful vid! I look forward to purchasing a signed copy of a tarot book written by you :) It takes me at least an hour or more to do my own readings. I think you have to be honest with yourself and really want to see everything they can show you about yourself especially the warty stinky stuff.

    This video helped me a LOT! I did the message to a person that I am really angry at and cards really told my story and how I wanted to tell this people. It was so accurate, i am impressed. Thank you very much!

  • @kelly-annmaddox
    @kelly-annmaddox  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Exactly, and that's pretty much what they're doing (and reading this comment made me really realise it) - they're protecting their livelihood. But their livelihood is actually supposed to be about empowering and helping others to achieve their potential, so when they hands down tell people they can't read their own cards, they're actually contradicting themselves in a big way by refusing to help people reach that goal.

    Hi four queens I love all your videos I just wanted to let u know I love the world card too. In my fave deck it's called the universe. I use the Llewellyn tarot by Anna Marie Ferguson it tells the fool's journey thru ancient Welsh legends. If u ever wanna read it it's great because all the stories of the major arcana are interconnected. And the universe card is about lasting happiness and faith and being in control of ur own fate and lots more. I think it really adds to our understanding of the traditional 78 cards. Really thank you, I've never heard someone speak about the tarot as intelligently as u. U don't have to try my recommendation but I luv it.

    i am having such a hard time finding new perspectives with my cards. i just read what i already think. like verifying what i already see/think/feel. but i'm wanting to have things shaken up for me.. i want to know where things are shitty so i can make some changes. ugh....i have no fear but i'm not ever hearing a different perspective. maybe i'm just too new with it..

    Hello Kelly-Ann. I've been getting into Tarot for the first time over the last few weeks and have found your videos incredibly helpful. You present information in such an insightful but easy to understand manner. Love your videos.
    I was also wondering if you would consider captioning your videos? I have a Deaf friend who is also getting into Tarot and would love to share these with her but automatic captioning is rather inaccurate. Cheers. :)

    My question is how do you connect the cards when I connect my cards for practice mine seem to be different from someone else reading the same cards.... And also my 8 of cups difininition in my book says "fullfillment of a wish but also mildness, timidity, modesty." But others definition i read defines it as leaving which one is the correct definition I'm so confused.

    You know I've read for myself before and I know what the cards are supposed to mean based on what the booklet says but I still have issues with interpreting really big readings like a 21-card past life reading I did recently and I tried to get someone to read them for me but I didn't get that.

    People who say reading your own Tarot cards is "bad luck" or who discourage it like you do here, say that because they want payment from reading others cards in my opinion. Ive learned from so many from youtube and personally that have been reading their own cards for 20+ yrs and they have never mentioned anything about it being "bad luck" or discouraging it because its not as "accurate" or "Its VERY difficult to be objective and remain objective" Isn't this suppose to be giving us some insight and something we go into open-minded? I strongly disagree and hope no one looking into reading their own cards let this video discourage them at all (:

    • @kelly-annmaddox
      @kelly-annmaddox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have made tonnes of resources encouraging and helping people to read their own cards and understand how to use Tarot in general. I also read my own cards too - I don't dash off to buy a pro reading every time I need cards read! I don't have time to rewatch this video right now but I am certain that it doesn't discourage the practice as extremely as you describe! I talk about the pitfalls and downsides because there are some, as there are negatives with pretty much everything if you look at it closely enough. I am shortly planning to do a video on good reasons to do your own cards versus getting a reading done for you, so you could potentially get something from that. But I don't appreciate your judgement that I am just trying to get people to buy from me. That is ridiculous - I have literally given away hundreds of hours of info on Tarot and other things for free, including an entire course on Tarot reading and tonnes of spreads that you can do for yourself, so your perception of my motive for making this video is utterly baseless. Maybe you shouldn't assume that everyone is just out to make a buck.
