Absolutely loved this movie, saw it in a community where the majority of people are elderly folks, it absolutely killed, very funny without making fun. Full of love, empathy and a sense of adventure. Deeply uplifting but underscored w a sense of melancholy about the perils of getting old. highly recommend!
Just came back from the theater and I absolutely LOVED it. It's the film that gave me the most joy all year round. It's heartwarming and oozing with charm.
Just saw this at the Seattle international film fest. The acting was great, so heartfelt , and a lot of fun action movie parody moments. Highly suggest!
Even though we're in Australia, we have a subscription to the Washington Post - they had a review of this movie and I'm hoping it'll come here. I definitely want to see it! Thanks for your comments about it.😊
This EXACT scam happened to my father-in-law last month! Fortunately, it was thwarted before any money was sent. As silly as the movie might seem, this is VERY REAL! If, for no other reason, watch the movie and make yourself and your loved ones aware of this particular scam. There are many others , but at least this movie should help cast doubt when someone is being scammed.
Thelma is an excellent film. Roundtree & Squibb are stellar companions with an adventurous ride on Roundtree's scooter to get some payback. There are heartfelt elderly jokes galore and troubles you've seen all grandparents go through. Love the "covert" hearing aid scenes. Malcom McDowell has a bit part, nice to see Hollywood hasn't forgot him either. Highly recommended, clean for all to watch, pure enjoyment.
I can't wait to see this movie. I talk to scammers all the time - even real Grandparent Scammers. Awareness is the key to keeping everyone safe from these scammers.
This would not work with my Mother and her Grandchildren. She would tell them you got yourself in Jail you get yourself out. Then hang up and then call her kids and yell at them for letting their kids go to jail.
It's definitely reminds me of both of my grandmothers they were a force to be reckoned with they were both very strong women and you didn't want to mess with their grandchildren
I saw this film last night and it is absolutely delightful! The pacing, acting, dialogue, and vibe were all solid and it was great to see Richard Roundtree hit it out of the park in his final performance. I imagine that elderly folks would enjoy it a lot and it's not a cheesy flick either. It has a lot of heart, it's genuinely funny, and it's a well-made little movie. I hope it hits the streaming services beyond VOD so more people can check it out since Thelma is certainly a movie that people are going to want to share with others.
This scam literally happened to my grandma, the shitbag scammers claimed to be my male cousin and said she needed to wire them $4000. The people who do this to vulnerable retired old people living on a fixed income are evil.
FINALLY SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT and not just some hollyweird cookie cutter crap we have seen 100 times! Don't get me wrong, the plot/story, may be a bit formulaic but it's *_the actors and the writing_* that feels fresh and i will take what i can get!
I loved this movie it was all well done and put together from the directing to the acting this film had a great team working on it and it’s the kind of movie that will make you think both about the trials of getting older and wanting to still feel useful to everyone and will make you Iove and appreciate your grandparents or even the elderly much more also the lady who plays Thelma in this movie is amazing. I love that little old woman. She is so sweet and did such a great job in this film
That's Richard Roundtree? Thought it was Lou Gossett Jr. who also passed away recently on March 29th, 2024. Regardless, RIP to them both as they were excellent actors.
Maybe see if any movie theaters near you do discount Tuesdays or something? It's definitely worth it, and it helps support these movies and let them know we want more like this
@@SolCresta3405 Yes. Stick around through the credits for a postscript: brief footage of the real Thelma, Margolin’s own grandmother, whose near-scamming inspired the movie and whose endless curiosity and zest have been imported intact to her namesake.
The movie was okay….the previews in theaters looked like the movie was going to be better than how it was but it was decent. Not bad but a the same time not the best movie
RIP Richard Roundtree (July 9, 1942 - October 24, 2023), aged 81
You will be remembered as a legend.

People keep saying we don’t have any original movies, LIKE HELLO? WE HAVE THELMA!
you are absolutely correct. its not often they make movies like this. definitely one of the more original movies ive seen made in quite a while.
The problem is this was an indie film, so it wasn’t advertised much. I knew about it because I saw it at a film festival.
It's definitely reminds me of both of my grandmothers they were a force to be reckoned with they were both very strong women and you didn't want to mess with their grandchildren

Spoil me. Are there any shootouts or fight scenes, or does anybody die in this movie, or is this a lighthearted and wholesome movie?
