IDK why, but seeing so many videos (here and elsewhere), I can't help but be bothered when I see an 7+ car Amtrak train go by in it where they put the cafe car at the very end (as opposed to as close to the middle as possible).
The quality on these videos is absolutely amazing! Keep it up! I have a whole bunch of Hi8 tapes myself that I need to digitize. What do you use for playback? I got one of the Sony Digital8 camcorders with the FireWire port, as I read a while back that certain models of those have the same internal hardware as the professional playback decks. The results were less than ideal, though, and it's been about 5 years since I've touched the project.

I used a cheap StarTech.com SDB2USB23 hardware capture device with an S cable, using Virtualdub free software, AVI capture set for lagarith lossless codec/deinterlaced with Yadif retaining BOTH fields/resized to 960 x 720 with a frame rate of 59.94, square pixels, constant frame rate.
1990s Railfan OK, thanks for the info. I have since noticed though that most of your recent videos have two issues with audio. One is that it lags about one second behind the video, and the other is that the level was turned up quite high at some point resulting in lots of clipping and distortion, destroying most of it. Hopefully that was done during capture or editing and not straight from the camera, as at least you would be able to fix it if you wanted to. The distortion is present in everything from your most recent upload back to about 7 or 8 months ago, and the lag/gap issue appears to go back 2+ years.
