I'd do anything to go back in time to be apart of a Nirvana concert
I could no longer speak after my Nirvana show. My voicebox was shredded.
0:14 lmao Cobain was like “why are they cheering at that”
@@ominousmvp395 Mate! Please!... Maybe, just maybe. That's one of the main reasons he «committed» suicide... Coming to realise a part of the fans just are frivolous ignorants.
Example : Robbie Williams in a Mexican tele-show, the crowd cheering, yelling and clapping him because he just says a couple of ordinary words. And He says Whay are they clapping? 🤨
@@ominousmvp395 I'm pretty sure that nobody here meant that it wouldn't be an enjoyable song tho
@@ominousmvp395 This was in 1991 when the song hadn't even been released. The fans wouldn't have known the song at that time
@@ominousmvp395 you didn't really get my point. He didn't mention anything about a new song, did he? They weren't cheering the song because they didn't know what song they were going to play.
1:07 fucking love that bass
the disgusted reaction on his face when the crowd cheers
boyman you’re right why have common sense and think when someone says something, everything should be reactionary mmmhhhhmmm
@@2k1natedog if people wanted to think they would go and read a book. He himself is thrashing on that stage, it's stupid to expect a crowd to not cheer to %95 of the words you say.
This is honestly the best anti rape song because of how bold it is due to Kurt being tired of people interpreting his lyrics in weird concepts
I don't know, dude. Sex Type Thing is also a really good anti-rape song.
@@aldodominguezdejesus9288 If one loves art as something different as the artist intended can be one of the unifying features of art.
"Dad, why is my sister's name Rose?"
"Because your mother loves roses."
"Thanks dad."
"No problem, Live At The Paramount, Seattle / 1991."
I like this ''early'' version of Rape me better than the studio one! ^^
He looks so surprised that they’re cheering to his introduction
Their chicks who still weren't over the cheesy 80s. Wasnt aware that a concert could actually be about the music and not chicks in audience showing their tits, on their boyfriends shoulders.
Dave's drum fill at 2:19 is masterful!
A wise man once said “I don’t think mtv would let us play that song”
@@lonelymademusic2415 Although Kurt played the first few bars at the VMAs in '92, purposely trolling them.
Can we all just appreciate how this version sounds so much better than the studio version, that solo kurt did was amazing and it was very melodic
i mean... calm down, it was kinda shit but that's what makes Kurt good
Dave's fill @ 2:23 is pure MASTERY of that craft.. So viscerally primal and at the same time so delicately intricate and NO ONE comes away unaffected by it.. Listen to it a couple or few times - Each and every time, you're gonna _feel_ it, just like the outro breakdown of *Domination* at the Monsters of Rock show in Moscow 1991, I think? Shit, just put "Domination breakdown Moscow" in the search bar and hit the very 1st result and then afterwards recall this drum fill here @ 2:23 and you'll see what I mean.. These are those moments, not just in rock or any genre but in MUSIC fundamentally which take it as far as it goes.. The intro drum fills of *Devil's Plaything* by Danzig, the droning guitar buzzing on the solo of *Pretty Noose* or even the bass guitar in the 1st verse of *Civil War* on Use Your Illusion II... The greatest moments music has to offer. Immortal.
this, to me, might be the best version of this song. the atmosphere on stage, the slightly downtempo performance alongside with krist’s heavy, overdriven bass, dave’s hard-hitting drums, kurt’s guitar tone and his raw vocals, it all adds up to be a perfect 10.
Mom:
what you want to be when you are an adult?
Me:
One of those black skin thight suits wearing lighting dudes at the nirvana show
you could basically jump on any stage and everyone would assume you're supposed to be there :D
This has to be one of the nirvanas most powerful live performances
The way he looked when everyone started cheering was iconic
THE BEST PART...
2:44 to eargasm (x-X)
There have always been so many emotions dripping on that voice.
Nobody:
Light operators: "Hey, BOSS do you want more light BOSS?"
Hahaha is so funny saw like the ligths operators are wearing a weird black shirt
You can feel the pure emotion of Kurt performing this song and his sorrow for all r4pe victims.
The BEST performance of this song ever in my opinion. The fact he gave it a wonderful guitar solo is the cherry on top
- Hey baby, at today's Nirvana concert I will be on stage with a band.
- Wow! What instrument do you play?
- Well, I dance in a black leotard with lights in my hands.
Nowadays there'd be TikToks of the people who did the lights proudly going on about it 😂
0:14 here we see him look at krist as if to ask "why did they start cheering, they didn't let me finish"
It's a shame that this song was so misunderstood by the main stream back in the 90's. Kurt had such a strong voice for woman's rights - at least for those of us that listened to what he said back then..
Here in Argentina he cheated us with the excuse that "we mistreated" a punk band of women when we did nothing wrong, the guy took him to another level of "" feminism ""
I agree but like you gotta admit how provocative it was too. I mean I think Kurt kinda knew what he was doing when writing those lyrics and titling the song.
if I'm not mistaken this was one of the rare moments he performed a small solo on this song. Best version, so awesome!
The guitar riff and rythym in this is one of my favorites. I can't get enough of this song
Kurt was the only songwriter who could go from a country song to punk rock to metal. Absolute genius.
Shit that would have been so cool if nirvana did cover a country song in a totaly demented way
i dont think he did country? i thought he did grunge/punk rock/metal
Krist on the bass, Dave on the drums, and Kurt on the guitar. Wow. Each of them playing their hearts out. This video is just phenomenal! They truly are the Gods of Grunge and dare I even say it, the best of all time.
There is nothing more embrrassing than a group of people walking up to you and shaking and clamouring, you know, and crazing you like you are some fucking God or something, it's embarrassing.
- Kurt Cobain, August 10th, 1993
A lot of people will object to that but grunge wouldn’t have been as big had nevermind never exploded
@@konradz912 but the grunge genre wouldve hardly ever even of been known nowadays if nirvana was never invented, yk?
@@aes8408 nirvana is fucking overrated, while the other three grunge bands, are far more talented than them
Live version sounds wayyyy better than studio holy shit.
I only used to know the studio version, but now I know this is my favorite one.
It's amazing how they ended up capturing this concert with such high quality. To me it's like the perfect link between early raw Nirvana and massively popular Nirvana.
I listened to this recording so many times
@cops and govern ment are gangstalkers i am a gangstalker. I am in your walls
I love the fact that the song is slowed down, especially in the beginning when you can hear Kurt starting to sing slower and draw out his words. Almost like he's making us wait for it. Making us pay extra attention to what he's saying.
And he has to hear a multitude of people applauding him for singing about rape...
His face when the fans cheer sums up his entire career as a musician of his fans not truly understanding his art. Shits heartbreaking
If you listen super close you can hear some heckler yell "WHO JERK OFF!!!" after he says hairy sweaty redneck macho men. I think that's what he pulls the face at.
HOLY SHIT MY NOTIFICATION WENT OFF AND I DIDNT BELIEVE MY EYES THIS IS awesome
when the drums start, chills send down my spine
Are we not gonna talk about Dave’s insane drum fill after the solo?
Best nirvana concert in my opinion
2nd best behind MTV unplugged in my opinion(if it can be considered a 'concert'). Live at Reading was also legendary .
Aydn Lewis reading was definitely legendary! Kurt was probably the cleanest he would have ever been off of heroin.
@@1curt12 i always thought he seemed really sleepy and out of it in reading
People cheering to his intro are like those described in "In bloom":
"He's the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means"
Well to be fair they didn't hear him say "who rape" until after they started clapping and then you can hear them stop clapping. (Few stragglers still clap tho)
This is a song and they paid for the concert. Let them enjoy the show, the public is not there to write a critic to NYT
I think they were cheering because they knew what song he was talking about and they like it
that drum fill is just so good 2:24
2022 and still the best voice there was
I believe every concert has that one song that’s feels different, blows all the others out the water, and I think this is the song for the concert
Top tier band of their sound,Kurt doing his thing,Krist grooving on the bass and Dave annihilating the skins
The tempo of this first version of rape me is unmatched by the studio version and later live versions, the guitar solo and tempo shifts in this version are amazing.
I refuse to accept they sound this good live like that 🙏🏽👏🏼
Well they had an interface that recorded it to make it a live album, so this has been extensively edited and enhanced. Really if you were there it would be loud as hell and there would be a lot of reverb
They rehearsed for hours like a regular job. They played alot together. Jack Endino said they recorded alot of songs in one take. When you play together that much, live will sound the same if not better than the recording. Kurt's voice would always sound just as good live because he always played guitar while he recorded vocals. So there's no difference. 🤘
All my respects for the cameramen and sound techniciens ! Such a great job !
I freaking love how Dave dances 😭
This is my favorite version with the album one. It was the first I heard. The vibrato in his voice is really cool and his scream at the end is crazy. When he does the apergios he plays the second chord (C) different. He only puts his finger on the C note and let the other strings open which is really cool since the 4th chord (G) is the same thing with the G instead of the C
Such a strong performance, such a beautiful song. I'm having goosebumps listening to this.
Strong performance indeed, but beautiful song, you say? You better ask for an appointment with the psychiatrist...
Really love the guitar on this version, somehow even better than the studio one
damn i wish this rugged solo was in the studio version.
ikr! it’s the only reason i love this version better (plus the guitar feedback)
Thanks for defending us, KURT , I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
This dude has a hell of a voice
that dude swinging the lights - thank u bro
u gave me 7 minutes of laughter
The more I dig into norvana songs, the more I fall in love with the lyrics and their dkfferent concepts. The way Kirt caotured a specific topic sonoerfectly and brings it out ohysicallt with his amazong vocie is just SO DAMN PERFECT. Also his solo on this was fricking awesome!!!
"How do you battle sexism?"
Kurt: "By writing songs as blunt as, 'Rape Me'. "
Firstly, I cant get over how tight they are in this whole gig. Kurts playing and vocals are so raw, high octane and they really hammer through that mic! Daves drumming is out of this world, and Krists influence in the bassline just boosts their sound to another level.
Secondly, the re-mastering audio and visual of this gig is just phenominally done. It without doubt highlights the amazing cinematography of this whole gig. Kudos to the camera operators!! 👌
I also really love how Kurt plays the verse chord progression a bit differently and picks out different notes. It really gives it a different melodic sound just by one note.
If only he could have coped with media hype attention, things would be a lot different these days. Sadly he just wasnt able to deal with pressure of Nirvama becoming such a grunge sensation. RIP KURT 💞
Holy crap! This is the first time I've ever seen the actual video for this. I've heard the audio before and loved it, especially since this is an earlier version of the song with a guitar solo. It makes me wonder what other Nirvana content I'll discover in the future when I thought I'd seen it all over the past 20 or so years.
Can we just take a moment and appreciate the people holding actual lights in front of the band for nice lighting effects. [Seen at: 1:34]
0:14 its because of reactions like that he made In Bloom
This guy used his voice well, literally and metaphorically.
we can talk about the bass ? Dude Krist is an archangel
This is the best I've ever heard Nirvana sound. Kurt's voice is right on the money the whole concert
The man holding the light is killing it😂
Fantastic version
The solo is everything to me in this version
Are we all gonna ignore the fact that this came out 2 years before In Utero
I prefer this version to others. It's slower and Kurt's voice sounds even more raspy than usual.
Sounds so much better than the studio version.. fab.
I really love their all the live versions more than the recorded ones idk why but live ones hits me so hard everytime
I died when kurt was confused at the beginning(he probably didn’t realize they thought he was gonna play mr mustache)
The best band in my heart ❤️ nirvana
That scream in the end gives me CHILLS 🖤🎸🖤
I’m so happy for this. Nirvana in my heart forever 🤘🏼
I like this more than the studio recorded version because it sounds like he has more emotion in his voice and it feels more authentic
Or it’s just me.
This is probably their best live performance. What a sound !!
I can’t stop hearing this song someone help me
Imagine if you went to this concert and saw the guys filming and then were able to relive the experience 28 years later on youtube!
I love this song on incredible levels
Nirvana is the best rock band of the 90s era I reckon.
"So what do you do for a living?"
"I'm an interpretive light dancer for live shows"
LOL I just lit this joint. Saw this and couldn't stop laughing.
Yeah. I was thinking “who is this creepy guy with the light “!
Finally thank you!!
The best job in the world hell yeah!!!
He or she is so good at it too XD
