      @@OffshoreAudio Andrew, can Live Professor, SQ5 Dante card and a DX-165 stage box be used for live Waves plugins? I don’t own the Dante (DT-165) stage box. If this works, I’d sell my Waves I/O card for the SQ5. I have both cards at the moment, Waves and Dante I/O cards for the SQ5. Thanks. Jim, Las Vegas.

    Great Video, Thanks for helping me to understand Dante. I am newbie to this technology. I have a question: If my Digital Mixer has Dante Capability, can I use the Network Cat5 to connect directly to In-Ear Monitor and get all the 16 channels so that our Worship team can do their own mix on their mobiles. To do this what's needed apart of the Digital Mixer with Dante Enabled. Assuming Digital mixer already have all the Instruments and Microphones connected (this for our Church purpose). Thanks in advance

    Very new to Dante. If you're sending signal from a stage box to the mixer (Yamaha TF1) of course the mixer controls the gain of the head amp. But if you're also sending the same signal to your computer to record. Is the gain still controlled by the mixer in the recording? Your gain levels needs for recording might be different than your live sound gain needs, to prevent feed back on stage. Also (I am still planning my network) when I finish programing all the routing and at the end of the night, strike the equipment . The next time I set up the same equipment, the same way, does all the equipment remember how it was programed last time or do I have to reprogram routing everything, every time I set up.

  • @randomproductioncompany995

    Thank you for this video! I'm still confused as to where do you set your gains? On the mixer? Before hitting the Stagebox? And how do you deal with Phantom powered Microphones?

    • @theokaenzig9549
      @theokaenzig9549 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The gain and Phantom is set by the stagebox, but usually the stagebox can be remotely controlled by the desk.

    Nice video! Where does preamplification occur in your network? In stage box or stage rack?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. It happens in the stagebox. Got to get the mic signal up to line level before converting it to digital. So it would look like this. Mic> Preamp>ADC Now you've got a digital signal you can send over Dante.

    • @joecooter151
      @joecooter151 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You might want to try using multicast flows to your DAW

    • @thesteel-hearted9472
      @thesteel-hearted9472 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess thats gonna create more latency since it makes network more busy

    • @joecooter151
      @joecooter151 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's literally the opposite. The multicast flow will bundle multiple audio channels into the same network flow - this should result in less sockets which should be easier to handle.
      The network bandwidth will stay the same.

    Could someone please explain to me why I need Dante. I don’t know much about this but why can’t I just connect my stage box to my mixer?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello. The good news is You don't need Dante, it's just the language that certain equipment uses to communicate. All digital stageboxes talk to the mixer using a certain language or protocol. If you're using an sq5 mixer and a DX stagebox then you don't need to think about Dante at all because you're not using it. If you're using a DT stagebox with a Dante card in the same mixer then you probably need to understand how Dante works. So whether you need to know and understand Dante just depends on the equipment that you're using.
      Of course if you're pursuing audio as a career then understanding Dante is a must have skill, but that's a different conversation. Hope that helps.

    I think this is the problem that cause my Dante connection stop working sometimes for a few seconds!

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. It's on the audinate website somewhere, also on Allen and Heath and Yamaha. I believe the phrase was "100m between each node" of the network. So in theory if you go through a switch or another Dante entity then your distance counter is reset, if that makes sense.

      @@OffshoreAudiothis correlates with the Category standard of the cables used to the best of my knowledge and understanding; the fatter/faster the “pipe,” the shorter the hops tend to get. While Cat7 is 10+ Gbps, that’s only reliable/to spec for cable lengths of up to 40m (iirc, and I probably don’t, so check that). This is where things start to get spendy, building the infrastructure that’s capable of moving the amount of data at the required speeds over the required distances while keeping latency as low/negligible as possible. Switches with SFP/fiber trunking/backhaul, battery backup for them…

  • @Reedith
    @Reedith หลายเดือนก่อน

    Maybe dumb question?
    Do you need a computer running the Dante controller software when using anything Dante
    Or is the computer just to set it up and then you can throw the computer in the river and you're Network will just keep working? And you can start in stop all you want and unplug and re-plug it's just configured the way it is until you open up another computer with Dante controller and reroute something?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great question. You're right that you just need it to set up. For example if you just have 1 Dante stagebox you might route that to inputs 1-16 then never touch it again. So whenever you turn a device off and on it remembers it's routing. It's worth saying that the routing is tied to the name of the device. So if you go and change your stagebox name from stagebox 1 to stagebox SL, then all the routing will be undone. Hope that helps.

    Do you guys think is intelligent to have a Dante set up for a set up with 10 synths? I would use a stage box for all the inputs in one place, and try to avoid lots of cables around the room. Does it make sense ?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It makes sense if you're always working with a mixer with dante innputs. I see that all the time. E.g. a dlive mixer, with a DT168 stagebox by the keys and synths. But if you're just in and out of different venues with different engineers then you'd probably be better just going for a loom.

    Hi Andrew, do you know if it is possible to use a wifi link in a Dante network ? For example is it possible to link a mixer ( say TF3) with the stage I/O box (say Tio1608-D2) without cat5/6 cable. Using good 3rd party wifi link units..... thanks for a a very informative video !👍

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. You cannot, its too unstable for audio so Dante won't recognise WiFi connections. Though apparently you can connect Dante controller wirelessly. Info here: www.audinate.com/learning/faqs/can-dante-operate-over-a-wi-fi-network

    • @joecooter151
      @joecooter151 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      WiFi splits multiple clients into time sections both to account for multiple devices connected to the same network as well as to allow bi-directional communication over the same channel/frequency. Because this is dynamically changing, it makes protocols that require precise synchronization like Dante impossible.
      There are some wireless links that do not use the wifi standard that may, and I do stress _may_ work with Dante, but they're not exactly cheap. Probably the most popular solution for this is the Ubiquiti airFiber line (_not_ unifi)

    Can SD8 connect over Dante to computer directly as I use logic Pro as mixer. I think that is possible can Anyone know that is possible so that I dont need a physical mixer like XR32

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SD8 uses the AES50 protocol to transfer audio data, not dante, so it cannot connect to anything using dante. You can only connect it to a device with an AES50 port. It's not designed to operate as a standalone preamp so you wouldn't be able to conrol gain, 48v, or routing without the mixer. If you did somehow connect it to Logic it would probably be a hassle so I wouldn't recommend it. Check out this video to learn how stageboxes work: th-cam.com/video/MEdegrbjgfY/w-d-xo.html
