I definitely love Brawl’s addition of the mugshot because it’s a lot easier to tell what mode you’re playing. In Melee you can’t tell if you’re playing a time match or if both players were on one stock. In Brawl, you now have the “gradient ellipses of vitality” (name I made up 2 seconds ago) to represent stocks. Now you can tell you were playing a 1 stock match like a fucking psychopath.
4:57 Alax knows how to write running jokes and references PERFECTLY. Literally took until my second viewing to realize this is a reference to his 2018 E3 video, but just saying it wasn’t enough. He added ANOTHER joke on top of it to make it fresh. Now that’s comedy writing.
I guess i understand one of your points, that being the inconsistency brought with new character mechanics, but I feel like that inconsistency helps the characters be even more unique, and adds fun and excitement to get to know how they work and figure out how to "master" the character. I do hope for the next smash maybe they introduce a universal UI mechanic so that characters can have access to even more varied moves

A next Smash Bros really need to reimagine every character that is included. I still think smash and tilt should be two separate buttons, which allows guaranteed inputs but also one new attack: neutral smash. The inputs need some rework too, such as option for dedicated short and full jump if you want, and grab not being just shield+attack since that causes some issues already.
Unironically would love to hear a crunchy wiimote sound effect for every single character now. Crunchy Dragon Quest level up sound! Imagine the possibilities!

I want the next Smash game to just throw all convention out the window. Let the player rearrange the ENTIRE fighter select screen, and even have the character tiles remember the last used alt colors. Then include built-in menu layouts (ultimate style, smash 4 style, etc.). People would spend hours doing that, like RE4's inventory. You could even make tier lists in-game
Speaking of throwing out all conventions, l really wanted smashUltimate to have an option in the Controls called "Switch", and when you hold that button your controls get switched to your secondary control scheme. Like, l use TiltStick normally, but then l could make it so that when l hold ZR my right joystick is now set to smash-stick. Sure it's kinda niche, but it'd also be fully optional so no harm no foul :]

Yes, I actually rarely ever played Robin and forgot this was even a thing so, there are actually *12 characters who have UI* it seems. Robin looks like he has bad circulation and horrendous stamina when he goes running. Someone should tell Robin to breathe through his nose. Someone tell Robin he needs to go outside.

Pjiggles made a video about adding more special UI features to older characters such as Wario having a Waft Meter, R.O.B having a fuel meter and Olimar with the Pikmin order. The Wii Remote sounds for Brawl really added more charm to the game, the Megaman, Shulk and Sephiroth ones would’ve been sick. But can we talk about how Melee and Brawl are the only Smash Games where you can move the whole character select screen with the C-Stick? That’s another funny thing I miss.
Shoutout to the time my older cousin let us use his GameCube at a family event and when we played Melee, my other cousin kept calling the percentage "interest rate"
you know, this is one of the things that i don't realize when playing, i mean the UI serves to show you what is happening but i didn't realize that it never gives you specific information (or that makes sense)
I like the universe symbols since their pretty cool and really makes the fighters feel like their unique from each other my personal favorites would the Sonic, PAC-MAN and of course the Smash Bros. symbol
Hard disagree on this one actually, the best gimmicks have good interactions without making the screen more cluttered. I'm ok with a few characters having them, (honestly can't see any implementation of hero without it) but there are some that really don't need it. Terry and cloud could just flash like dk/samus, villiager can only poket one thing anyway so why have an inconsistent symbol for it, and inkling and joker really only have meters because little Mac already had one.
I think Sakurai might have taken inspiration from the fact that in fighting games people will often talk about the damage done to the opponent in terms of % of their total health
