- I bought an abandoned 79 Mustang that had been sitting on the "island" since 1991. It was supposedly driven to that spot and left for dead. I've been looking for a 79 for years and finally found a good candidate!!
Watch Part 2! th-cam.com/video/GUzkvs7QpmQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_JGEJZ_I-i22nsyG
78 was the 1st. Year of the fox bodies, the mustang fox was introduced in 79.
You are correct, I had actually edited out the part of the Mustang starting in 79 but fox in 78.
I was just coming to comment the same.
I worked at Ford in 77. Fox line Fairmont yes it was a fox
Love these older fox-body Mustang's. 43 from Toronto and had a metallic brown '80 fox Mustang from age 18 to 28. Gold sparkles in the paint. Bought it for $700 bucks from an old lady. 1 owner garage kept 85,000 original kms!! It had a unique/wonderful rustic orange & brown autumn interior. Eventually sold it for a mint condition 2 door white Mazda 323 . Also one owner garage kept, 45,000 original kms. I should have kept the Mustang I still miss it and it would be a total classic/collector today
There's just something about these first years that I really like.
This video is evidence that a gear head's love for these old cars transcends rat shit. 😄 Love the Pinto hidin in the background.
🤣🤣🤣
I have to admit, I have a soft spot for these early Fox "ugly ducklings", especially the Capris, but the 79's look so similar it's hard to tell them apart except the front end. I had an 80 with the 2.3, and was working for a guy who raced mod 4 circle track cars. I bought enough race parts off him to put together a crazy little 2.3 race motor and had dropped that in, with the stock 4 speed, got a 5.13 ring and pinion, and welded that little 7.5 solid with a stick welder...that car was so loud, had no power under 4000rpm, could rev to 10000, had to run leaded AVGAS....and it was worth it! God it was fun, and surprised a lot of "fast" cars at stoplights!
The Capri had a wide body look due to the wheel opening body line being in a different spot. I would put a Mustang front clip with fenders on mine for the fat rear look. Your car sounds like it would have been a lot of fun!!
My mom had an 83 capri, I'd love to get ahold of one myself.
What's that a chevy motor 😆
Other TH-camrs would’ve stretched this out into 20 videos. Was so nice to be able to watch all the progress in one viewing
Thanks man. The longer the video the more ads and revenue can be generated, however its harder to keep folks entertained and watching. I'm still very new and learning but enjoying the process and hopefully inspiring others.
@@Crossthe_line exactly. It’s of course okay to break it down a little bit if it’s something that’s took months/years, but people forget that it gets annoying to viewers which isn’t good. Anyways, great content and looking forward to more
Thanks a lot man!
I 100% don't blame you for not making a mess of that awesome hair doo as you n I must have the same barber lol. Great video haters will come don't listen to them keep being you. TH-cam is a marathon not a sprint
🤣🤣🤣 people don't understand the process for perfect hair!!
Shame, no title! At least you put it to good use. Neat ride and it came out pretty darn good from the mess you found it as.
Yeah I hate that it doesn't have a title however it's not totally lost, I'm in contact with the family. I'd love to put it back on the street.
The truck and wagon needs saved , I'll rescue them
Hey not one moronic comment here in the comments about this thing being worth some delusional amount of money because they saw a 1 of 3 86 Saleen with 600 miles sell at Barret Jackson. Aside from a few super low production cars, these will always be cheap sh*tboxes no matter how bad ya want to believe otherwise, and that what makes them great.
that car looks rather well cosmetically ! the body looks very straight too
Open your eyes😂that car is full of bondo
@@dopeman420 hahah i didnt notice that ! haha
Wtf youve been working for 15 minutes?!?!
Damn Shawn I need you to show me how to do these thumbnails they are good
I didn't know these were being produced until a coworker bought a GT in '82 that thing rattled straight off showroom floor. It would set ya back in your seat. after that year they got uglier each year. I never could find a good condition '82. This one looks good though.
My very first fox was an 82 GT, I miss it
Great job👍On the Fox body ,Keep up the good content 🇺🇸🥃
Bad move forcing that engine without lubricant. Valves and cams being destroyed doing that. Watch Derick do it correctly
Got to admit I still have a little of a soft spot for these cars, even though I don’t think they were all that good of a car. Those 2.3 “metric” 4 cylinder engines they put in these were a Mustang II left over and definitely had their fair share of issues. The 200 six was great but slow. The 302 was great but got dropped in 1980 (they should have dropped the 4 cylinder instead). They didn’t hold up well in a front end collision (personal experience) and the door were clanky when you slammed them, but … it was really the first good looking Mustang since 1970!
This one needs a 302 transplant!
They make great drag cars!!
Marvel works wonders for freeing up a stuck motor
That's a bummer. A mechanic should know how to repair or fix carburators. Any kind. And please dont say often "i dont know".
I've never claimed to be a good mechanic. My issue with carb rebuild is I rush through it and don't take the time to thoroughly clean and check everything.
I want that Dentside truck behind that Mustang! 0:51
I had a 1984 with a 2.3. no turbo. Very slow. But I don't think 79 was the first year of the fox body. It was just the first year of the mustang Fox body. . The first car to use the Ford Fox body platform was the Fairmont in 1978 check out the two door. It's a pretty decent looking car
Yeah I had actually edited out the part where I talked about the foxbody platform started with the Fairmont in 78.
@@Crossthe_line I forgot that I also had a 1980 Mercury Capri 5.0. I kind of blocked that one out. By 1993 it had a milkshake which once was motor oil...LOL
U can't kill them 2.8s but it be out and 302 in
Engines arent just 360 degrees. Intake stroke and compression stroke. 720 degrees. Now you are risking breaking a tooth on the flywheel. Genius
That is a great spot. A Dent Side Ford, a Peugeot 5 series wagon. Save 'em all! That Fox body interior is actually worse than what Lance saves
Sounds like a plug out u don't hear that puf
Thanks!
Thank you!!
I could use that old dent side for parts lol
Running great!
Yeah this little engine sounds awesome!
Miss my 88 5.0, I’m wondering why you didn’t try fresh fuel
I was running a boat tank on it, all the carbs had been sitting and really needed attention.
Your camera skills are fine o really like better than others and I think your Ltd tow rig is awesome
Thanks man!
Brings back memories my sister had one of these early fox bodies i rode to school in it probably helped start my love of mustangs.
Yeah buddy that's the way 👌👍😎
I have extremely nice 79 Ford courier. I’m wondering if one of those 2.8 V6 would work in that truck
I don't see why not, the engine is actually fairly small but the accessories make it look huge.
@@Crossthe_line thank you sir if you want to sell maybe let me know thanks
Could be a bearing.
Or open spot in intake
it make a great rally car
Oil the cylinders
That 8.8 still got it
I dig your garage!!
U have a plug out?
Baby Pinto 🔥🐴🔧
Your going to bend
I've always taken the EGR valve off of all my trucks
Early 79 has the door handles at the bottom. The later models had them at the top. I had the exact same interior on my 79. The odd thing was it was a V6. I later slept a straight 6 into it out of a wrecked 80 that I had. I had so many of these four eyed fox bodies in my youth.
I've probably had 30 foxbodys in my time but only a handful 4 eye cars. This is my 2nd 79 and they both had handles at the bottom, thanks for the info on the later years.
Love the Granada sitting beside the Stang
That one is on the list to come in the shop soon, it's got a 460 in it.
@@Crossthe_line how cool is that. Can’t wait
EVs only dream of being that cool!
🤣🤣🤣 Right!!
The reason it was stuck at high idle is cuz the adapter plate for the 4 barrel is not letting the butterflies to close... The butterfly plates are sticking slightly opened
Highly possible
@@Crossthe_line Takeoff the plate and carb and bolt them together and check I can guarantee thats your issue... Take a carbide bit in a dremel and grind off about 1mm off the back half of the secondary ports on the adapter plate and they will close fully and restore normal idle
The manual V6 79s seem to be a rarity ! Do you have a picture of the door tag ?
The driver's side door isn't factory and the tag is gone.
@@Crossthe_line too bad, you may still have the buck tag though, it’s screw to the radiator support, sometimes hidden behind the bumper somewhere.
I wouldn't even get that running pull it put a v8 in it
Check out part 2
Them earlier v6 weren't as good as the modern Ford v6s the cologne engine was okay but I never had good luck from them early sixes
I want to pull the heads off and look at everything but so far she's sounding good.
Valve
Sounds like a blow n head gasket
Could be. Would liked to have put shroud and good guage on it to actually see what kind of temps it was running.
New to your channel awesome content overcome, adapt, impervise 😊
Thanks man!!
I sold a running driving pinto station wagon just like that last year for $600
Dang, the ones I find are usually way overpriced.
@@Crossthe_line this one was my mom's in high-school and had sat in a field for about 30 years. I literally put a battery and gas in it and it fired right up. I sold it on flat tires still lol
Man I would've loved to have gotten it!
@@Crossthe_line I'm in north Alabama. I have an old 49/50 panel truck right now for the same price. It's pretty rusty though and has sat for 40+
Shawncross81@yahoo.com shoot me an email with contact info.
Needs to idle high for a while, should automatically idle down after a while
I had choke tied open so it should've idled at a normal low rpm. I think the secondary lever was hitting the carb spacer leaving it cracked open an ooch.
U may have to pry on the flywheel
I didn't realize Ford put the 2.8 in the fox body. I thought it went away with the II. I used to have a '74 Mach 1 with the 2.8, biggest engine for that year!
I didn't either, they actually used the 2.8, 3.8 and inline 3.3!!
It's was in 1979 only, and was replaced progressively by the 3.3L due to supply issues.
Manual V6 79s are actually very rare, the brochure even mentions the automatic as the only option with the V6. The vast majority of them came with C3s or C4s.
I had a 79 with the V6. I put the 3.8 inline in it.
Hey shawn loving it again, don't vomit inside your mask lol
🤣🤣🤣 luckily I couldn't smell anything!!
Will the Peugeot 504 be saved?
I doubt it, it was in a wreck and in pretty bad shape
Better not let sleeperdude see them fairmonts.
🤣🤣🤣 Josh knows I have a couple
@shawncrosstheline it didn't click who you were until I seen that 4x4 grand marquis.
🤣🤣🤣 all good man
I think she might have a stuck or bent Valve
Hard to tell on video but she's firing on all 6, that carb is all wrong for it though.
No it won't leave it there 🤣🤠⭐🦅
🤣🤣🤣
Is that a ford granada parked under a carport??
Yes sir, coming to the channel soon!
Yes I am looking for either a 2dt gtanda or Fairmont myself but no luck here in Bama
I'm always on the lookout for them myself. I do have the red Fairmont but no papers and it's rough.
@@Crossthe_line let me know if you decide to sell
Shawncross81@yahoo.com hit me up with contact info
That interior is not that bad actually
Carpet and some deep cleaning would bring it around
door buzzer lol
Lol that thing wouldn't stop!! 🙄🤣
I had the the same year with the 302 I seem to remember the door buzzer could be disabled by one connector I’m quite nostalgic for that car it was pretty quick despite the low hp rating mine had red paint with the same colour interior
Yeah I remember disconnecting the buzzers in a few I had years ago but they were a little cleaner inside than this one. 😬😬
My first car was a 1979 Mustang 5.0. It was silver with an automatic. I believe it was a Ghia edition. Loved that car.
