Yes, here’s the speed limit information for the harbor. The captain did a great job slowing that huge vessel down to make the turn in the harbor basin. A true professional without a doubt. www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/33/162.110
i applaud you geeking out over this ship's arrival, definitely cool to watch so closely. Thought you ramped up the geek factor by showing us the manufacturer of that light fixture, but then... when you gave us the decibel rating for that horn... that, my friend takes the cake. Hilarious and, appreciated!
You have me cracking up over here, my friend. I’m just having fun out there. Just a regular dude with a camera that hits record that likes ships. I never worked in the industry, just a guy that likes looking at ships like most people. I try to do some research. I really hope you come back and watch some of these upcoming ship videos I’ll do with the snow and ice.
It's those unexpected little voice-over details that makes the difference between a good video/doc. & an average one. The more information offered, the more complete the video story. And the more interesting it is to the viewers. Otherwise, it would almost be like reverting back to the silent movie days with little more than interesting images to watch. Based on what I viewed, a number of questions came to mind which would have added to the story but, were not included. Ship's width? Ship's draft, loaded/empty? Canal's width, depth? Number of ships crew? Home port? Sail during ice cold winters? Port of registry? Load capacity in tons? That type of info could easily enhance & complete the details of this video. A suggestions to the videographer.; The video would have been a lot more dramatic if the ship had been covered in a medium/ wide shot of the ship "coming through" the bridge, toward the camera, rather than the long shot of "going through that bridge in the distance. You lost a lot of beautiful detail from that distant angle . You did well on this one. Hope some of my experience can help on your next one. Combat Photo, Ret.
@billlewis5425 I hear what you’re saying, I’m just a regular guy shooting a video with an iPhone. That’s all I’ll ever ever be. Nothing was voiceover. That was me talking live.
@billlewis5425 Also, I would suggest taking a look at some of my new videos. This is a very old one. Sounds like you should do a TH-cam channel. Maybe you already have one? If so, let me take a look at some of your videos. That would be cool.
Impressive video. I had to chuckle thinking this announcement was like the Indy 500 time trials. The Tom Carnegie of maritime shipping. "And HEeeees On It!" Then the turn, like going into turn 1. Good video, thanks for the laugh.
Your comment had me laughing so much. The last thing I thought I’d be hearing is someone talking about Tom. This is such a great comment, great hearing from you brother. Come on back soon.
I could tell the ship was moving a lot faster than I normally see 1000 footer moving through the canal. I had to verify a few times with AIS. You could see it stayed at 10 kn or more through the whole until it made the turn. Wow! Pretty cool!⛴️👍
I’m so happy you found this channel. I hope you subscribe and come back my friend. Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to watch the video and leave a comment. Take a look at this link. The house with the widows walk on the channel adjacent to the entry of the harbour, is so reminiscent of homes of a gone-by era. Homes with a widows walk were once so prevalent at points of entry into safe harbours for sailing vessels. Called a widows walk because the wives of sailors would wait at the anticipate time, hours on end and watch from the perched walk for the return of the sailing vessel their loved one was on. In a era of little assistance for those at sea when needed, loss of life for a mariner was not to be unexpected, it occurred much more than it does today. The widows walk, so named for the presence of widows seen walking about that perch high above the roof, widows of lost loved one's at sea that never returned. Widows walk, some being enclosed and some with just railings. I truly love seeing these homes. 😔
I’m not kidding John, I literally want to keep every single comment you and Chuck leave and make a book out of it. The amount of detail and information you provide in your comments are extremely knowledgeable and fun for all of us. We all thank you for the wonderful information and fun stories you provide! We appreciate you brother!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️
Hi there John. I immediately hit a thumbs for your comment. Thanks so much for taking time to share this information. I too enjoy looking for homes with widows walks. I sometimes see them in the country.....far, far away from any water other than maybe a farm pond. Maybe the wait is looking for the return of a farm tractor! Again, thanks for the comment. I love reading comments. There is always something to learn and ponder.

I wanted to make sure that it was legit, so I kept showing you the screen verifying its speed. That was an awesome thousand foot ship arrival. It definitely impressed me.
In the 90s I worked on an American owned fishing tender vessel, based in Seattle. 3 times a year I was among a crew of 10, going out to the Bering Sea to service fishing factory boats. Our puny ship was shy of 300’, when we tied alongside the big ones for transfers, they towered over our deck by a couple stories, and were larger, maybe 400feet. Our beam was about 50’, though I can’t really remember. Watching the radar at night it might take a Japanese super freighter a couple hours to pass us, probably 20 miles off our starboard, depending on the direction we were heading. We were much further north. The captain and chief mate would tell me hours of stories. Saying that this ships were chugging along at about 20knotts, whereas we maxed at 10. They also were like 1000 foot, 5x the size of us. An 1100 foot ship is just over 1/5 of a mile! That’s still an amazing thing. I stopped that work after only 3 years. An enjoyable experience and adventure.
One of the coolest stories I’ve read in a long time. It was like reading a page out of a cool book. Thank you so much. What an awesome experience to share with us.
I’m so happy to hear you say that. Thank you so much. Keep in mind, my format is like a live journalist that talks about what’s going on constantly. It’s a format that I enjoy doing, I believe that people are used to it with live news. I try to make it fun.

@RandoWisLuL i’m so glad that you left this comment. The reply sound that you hear is from the lift bridge. They have multiple train horns installed. Wow, beautiful ship, powerful, could almost be doing a wheelie. Very professional driving around the curve. Give that capt a trophy, think he won whatever race he was running. Great powerful horn too. This one is literally a winner!
Great video. She was much better looking as the Columbia Star in my opinion. We hit the lift bridge a glancing blow on the Courtney Burton doing about the same speed. I guess it would have been around 1988 or so. Minimal damage to us or the pilings. But I imagine a very large fine and an epensive inspection. The old man was a real cowboy. We were leaving Duluth one time loaded with taconite for LTV Steel in Cleveland. Every ship was riding at anchor as a huge storm was barreling across Minn. heading for the lake and nobody wanted to have it in their stern quarter after making the mid-lake turn to the southeast. The old man took a 10-second look at the weather forecast and declared that we could beat it across the lake. We got caught with at least 18 footers (The Texas deck was awash) and strong gail winds + off our starboard aft quarter about 50 miles from the tip of the Keweenaw. We damn near shoaled getting in the lee of the peninsula and barely escaped with our lives. We got to the Sault and when we were level with the lock I threw my bag over the rail and got off. They wouldn't let me out of the gate without a letter from the old man releasing me from my articles. I told them they could arrest me if they wanted but I was not getting back on the boat while he was master. Everyone called Oglebay Norton and they didn't want any fuss that might expose his recklessness so I didn't even get fired lol.
What an absolutely wonderful comment. I have read this twice. It was so fun to read. I speak on behalf of everybody on this channel. We all appreciate this type of comment and input. Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely be back. I have always loved lake freighters. A little of my background. Lake shipping is in my blood. My much older brother sailed on the Arthur Anderson, My mother, born on the kitchen table of Middle Neebish lighthouse, was a regionally well-known watercolorist (Pat Norton) who painted freighters mostly, and my Grandfather spent 42 years as a lighthouse keeper (Whitefish Bay Light, Iroquois Point Light and Middle Neebish) I grew up in the closest private residence to the shipping channel on the Great Lakes that I am aware of (Across from Neebish Island on a point that stuck out into the river just above the rock cut). When I was sailing, my parents would stand on their deck and I could start at the bow and walk aft holding a running conversation with them at barely above conversational volumes. Just like my brother had done with me 17 years prior. We always had to reduce speed for the tricky turn to line up for the rock cut so it gave us plenty of time. If it was night, I would shine the spotlight in their bedroom to wake them up lol. The vice-president of Interlake at the time flew the entire northern half of the Great Lakes looking for the best place to watch the freighters and always told us he found the second best place when he built his "cabin" right across the river from us. It was cool because every Interlake freighter coming down gave a master's salute when he was in residence. Every year when I was young, he gave us a round trip cruise on a different vessel in exchange for one of Mom's paintings (Which paintings I was informed a few years ago still adorn the halls of headquarters just outside of Cleveland). We always got cards from all the Barkers every holiday. I am just being excessively verbose and probably boring your subs to death now. So I will save my other stories for another time.
@HomeShowTV legitimately some of the funnest comments I have read in a long time, both of yours. Long and very entertaining and well written. Literally like a page from an author. So wonderful. Thank you so much for this on a Saturday night for all of us.
Great video. When I was a young boy (aged about 10) my friends and I used to sit by a small bridge and watch lorries coming out of a stone quarry and get the drivers to sound their air horns. Childish fun. At 54 I still enjoy hearing that ship horn blast, don’t know why, but I do.
I always appreciate when you have a bit of extra time before arrival to show a bit of the neighbourhood and surroundings! And you're right that was fast....even the triple blast seemed pretty quick!
I really hope you get a chance to take a look at the video that I posted earlier. It was my favorite night ship video ever. ⚓️Duluth Shocker: Elusive Ship's Unexpected Detour Captivates! th-cam.com/video/mzjwarxe2Js/w-d-xo.html

It might be a little late when I go live but I’m waiting for 1000 foot ship to depart. I’m guessing it’ll happen within the next three hours at least that’s what I’m hoping for. Maybe you’ll be able to catch it? Don’t stay up too late though Brother.

You’ll be seeing ice all over the ships. Great time to come on board. Thank you so much for the wonderful comment and I look forward to chatting with you. Moving forward, all the best.
What a wonderful comment my friend. I really appreciate you taking the time to say this. I’m pretty much a rookie when it comes to photography. I just point kind of where my eyes are looking. Hands-down the best documentaries I’ve ever watched about Duluth are these two, Lost Duluth 1 & Lost Duluth 2. If you want to learn about the ship canal start at exactly 19:33 in Lost Duluth 1. I have linked these videos below for you. These documentaries tell the whole story of Duluth’s beginning and shipping industry, it’s absolutely fascinating with the photos and videos. Lost Duluth 1: www.tpt.org/lost-duluth-i/video/lost-duluth-i-38108/ (www.tpt.org/lost-duluth-i/video/lost-duluth-i-38108/) Lost Duluth 2: th-cam.com/video/8LtrsYVWezY/w-d-xo.html (th-cam.com/video/8LtrsYVWezY/w-d-xo.html)
Wow! Seeing those waves in front of the vessel when it was coming in… moving quick indeed! Wonder if the captain had reservations at Grandmas he was going to be late to! Lol!
There have been a few questions about the boat and bridge signal horns when the boats are entering and leaving the Port of Duluth. In most cases, once radio communication with the bridge has been established, use of the boat and bridge sound signals are not necessary and operation of the sound signals is left up to the captains. Often, boats will not use the loud horns after dark as a courtesy to city residents. So, most often when you hear the customary whistle/horn-blowing sequence of "long-short-short" it is a friendly salute to the Port of Duluth from the ship captain and is responded to by the lift bridge operator with the same sequence. The Master Salute is an upgraded more formal whistle/horn salute. That is “long-long-long-short-short.” While the famous sound may be a courtesy, it has long been part of the nautical tradition of this great inland sea port.
Your profile photo is awesome. It always gives me a good laugh. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday planned. It’s going to warm up a little bit in Duluth, which is a good thing.
Thanks Mike keep up good work hope you get lots of subscribers. I do enjoy seeing the ship's, and all the info. Used to drive truck up there twice a week. Go up every year for vacation. Looking to move up there . We love it up there, we got a seasonal site for next year up there. Maybe see ya filming sometime. Stay safe and keep up the great videos.

I’m excited to share some of these experiences with the Duluth ships with you. You found the channel at a very interesting and fun time. @@vibewithmike oh yes! I cannot wait to get more insights of the winter season over Lake Superior through your videos. Last year I watched some very cool arrivals and departures but again, with little to zero dynamics, still cool though. I am also very interested in meteorological stuff and I am totally in love with the peculiarities of the Great Lakes, the November Witch and so on. The Great Lakes area is a region I wish I would explore in the next years. I live on your same latitude (right above the 46° parallel) but weather is different (still cold but no major oceanic influences). I am sure I will be totally delighted and entertained by your videos and stories! Thank you for the very warm and friendly welcome in your very nice community and greetings from the region of Bolzano - South Tyrol - Italy to Duluth Minnesota USA! 🙂❤️
If you freeze the video at 2:32 and look carefully you can see one of the bridge horns in the upper right portion of the screen. It's in a direct line above the bridge control house.

Hello Capt.!! When you recorded this it was a balmy 34 degrees with the windchill. Wow. I have always loved the North Pier Lighthouse colors. The black and white just stand out. The American Century has those colors too. Just a classy looking ship. The carrying capacity that she has always amazes me. 80,000 tons!! She was really moving!! Maybe trying to get to the fuel dock before she ran out. When she was making the turn, I was wondering if she was going to hit the bridge. Great vessel. Thanks Mike for all you do for us in getting these ships recorded. Have a good day and chat soon. 🙋🚢
Karen! How are you doing my friend? I’m keeping my eye out for one of the thousand foot ships that’s scheduled to leave today. I will go live possibly a little later this afternoon when it does. We will have to see what time the ship actually leaves at. There’s still no snow on the ground so we are happy campers no matter what in MN. I do have my shovel and salt ready to go though just in case, I hope you have a great Saturday. I hope to see you on the live if you’re able to make it.👍⛴️

Hey! Very glad to meet you my friend. Happy Friday. I hope you’re doing great. Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope to see you again soon. The ships will be moving in the cold weather very soon.
I don’t recall ever seeing any laker come in that fast before. Was it just my imagination or was he crowding the south pier a bit too? Looked like he came a little close. Great catch, great video. As always really enjoyed the walk in.
I’ve seen enough thousand footers come through to know there was something different about it. Then I realized it’s the speed. I didn’t want anybody to take my word for it, so that’s why I kept showing AIS to verify.
Thanks for another great video of one of these ships in the Duluth ship canal. Over 10 knots speed. Remember in transporting bulk cargo time is money. They have to empty and refill then deliver the cargo. What is the speed limit in that lift bridge ship canal? These captains and pilots travel that canal many times. This is not their first time through the canal. It may be their 100th or more time through. It is still amazing how blunt and not streamlined the bow of that ship appears. The very square the stern creates lots of turbulence.
James, I’m thrilled that you found this channel and that you are enjoying these videos. Many of my friends in England think we are crazy to deal with the cold weather here in Minnesota. If you would be so kind as to allow me to point you to a video that I think would give you a flavor of this channel, this is one. it was extremely cold that day and I want you to take a look at the unbelievable sky and lake conditions. ⛴️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 th-cam.com/video/mKzamgCa6zw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I_pLaH5ephhZtDNr
@@vibewithmike Thank you Mike for that info, it was beyond awesome. I remember as a child that the river Tyne was where we used to observe what we called Supertankers being built for Esso and Texaco etc, 250,000 ton ships in the sixties and seventies, all trace of those Shipyards have now disappeared over time. All that industry GONE forever, very sad. Take care Mike and i will now start to check out more of your video,s.

Live in N Mi and got to watch ships pzss through straits of Mackinac a d pass undef the bridge, also Sault StMarie is only another hr drive past bridge to see go through Sault locks. Its quite a sight!
Email me any cool pictures or videos of those ships in that area. People love seeing different areas. I will show them when I livestream. mikems1mn@gmail.com
Is there a duty bridge tender that gets a call to come and raise the bridge? What if he gets a flat tire or has an accident on the way over? What are ships standing orders in regards to how far out they have to stay until bridge is raised? Never be able to stop that ship doing 10 kts......would be half a mile at least.
Hey, check this out! This explain the Aerial Lift Bridge operations center. The small house in the middle of the bridge. That’s where the bridge operator controls it. This video brings you right inside. There’s a person in there 24/7 during the shipping season. th-cam.com/video/2tX8HfMTIO8/w-d-xo.html
Finally a video about a magnificent vessel, no wrecks, yelling, etc! My algorithm is warped… Karen’s, feuds, flying burgers and fist, weaves flying around like black spaghetti with cursing I’ve never heard… we should monitor our blood pressure watching vids so we can see the difference
It’s really cool that you say this. I mentioned many times during livestreams of ships that these videos are all about relaxing and taking a step away from our normal life at work or wherever. Simple things like looking at lake superior, nature, a beautiful bridge, and other things that I incorporate into these videos have everything to do with going into a place to relax and mean too. We have developed a group of people in the comment section called Boat Friends. Thanks again for another great video of the Duluth passage into the harbor. 1,000 foot ship is limited by the size of the Soo locks in Sault Saint Marie. The locks limit the size of all of these great lakes ships. I have never seen the Soo locks. But, I have seen a video of the locks. I don't know why the Soo locks have not been expanded to longer and wider to accommodate much larger ships On the oceans bulk carriers exceed 1,200 feet long and 200 feet wide. They can probably carry over 4 times the volume and weight of one of these great lakes carriers.
@@vibewithmikeThey are working on opening another Poe sized lock. That lock will replace 2 older locks. It will be open in a few more years. With coal shipments on the decline, and ample ship capacity now for ore, we will most likely not see any greater than 1000 foot vessels built anytime soon. But when another Poe sized lock opens, that will help reduce backups.
I hope everything is great in Michigan. That ship is moving faster than I can run. That was crazy cool. It was fun, watching the captain move that ship in such a professional way, that turn was awesome.
If there’s one video, I would want you to see. It’s just one right here. Wait till you see the lake in the conditions out there. Unbelievable th-cam.com/video/mKzamgCa6zw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sJI993Nni_N57S49
@@vibewithmike Hello Mike. I first found your channel through the YT channel Northern Seclusion. Joe, he lives near and my favourite videos of his are when he goes to Duluth. What an incredible place.
Great video. I looked carefully for 2 things. To see how high water it's pushing and how fast. It looked like about 3feet of water at the bow and if you like at the small white waves being pushed next to the concrete wall you can see it's moving fast. If this ship was passing parallel to a beach the enjoying of water then filling up would be real fun. Thanks for this.
I really hope you come back to the common section for all of us. You’re the type of person that can pass along. Cool knowledge. I really appreciate your comment. That means a lot. Have a fantastic Thursday my friend.
Thanks for posting. Excellent that you give detail, most interesting. A few videos ago you showed briefly the channel flow speed indicator on the Bridge, unfortunately it was too quick and I couldn’t actually see it on the Bridge. Any chance of seeing is again abet slower. I was in the Merchant Navy as an Engineer and sailed on many Supertankers of 350.000 DWT. Thanks again.
Guess what, tonight you’ll see a video that shows the actual current light changing colors. It’ll change to green which represents an outbound current. It’ll be released at 4 PM central today.
Where i live some of the canals have strong currents so they advise the ships to not go under a certain speed as to not be pushed sideways into the seawalls or the bridge itself
I know exactly what you mean, my friend. I hope you subscribe and come back to the channel to watch more of these great ships. Take a look at this from a few days ago. I got pretty emotional watching this old-school ship leave. th-cam.com/users/liveZaFsAPzyeKc?si=_nJWf6cffLTEWK5F
A notable spectacle. I used to enjoy watching the ships climb the rapids under the golden gate, on my hitching tour in the US in 2008. A guy came out of a door in one of the piers one time and I had an interesting discussion about the bridge and retrofitting work to protect against Earth quakes which I had noted earlier. It is quite a monumental and ancient looking structure, vibrating and held up by 2 gigantic steel cables. The White City across the bay looked magnificent, although it seems it has gone to the dogs since then…
Thank you very much for that nice comment Jeffrey. I really hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday and I hope you have an even better Sunday my friend.
@jeffreyerickson3050 thank you so much. We will keep having some fun together with these ships. It’s going to get really rad when it gets snowy and the ice is out there too.
Is there even a speed limit in the canal? 😂
Yes, here’s the speed limit information for the harbor. The captain did a great job slowing that huge vessel down to make the turn in the harbor basin. A true professional without a doubt. www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/33/162.110
Captain said watch me drift this thing around the corner.
@ralphyboy3636 that’s what I was thinking, too, the drifting
@@vibewithmike I can’t barely drift a vehicle and these guys do it in 1,000ft ships! That just hurts lol
@@vibewithmike captain said watch this. The chief engineer is hanging on yelling SHE CAN'T TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS!!! (In his best scotty voice)
i applaud you geeking out over this ship's arrival, definitely cool to watch so closely.
A suggestions to the videographer.;
The video would have been a lot more dramatic if the ship had been covered in a medium/ wide shot of the ship "coming through" the bridge, toward the camera, rather than the long shot of "going through that bridge in the distance.
AC not wasting any time! Good horn too. Thanks Mike, have a great weekend!!
Thanks for watching Grant. Yes, the captain of the AC was showing us that he’s a true professional. I love watching that speed through the canal.
He was trucking through the canal, wow! Thanks for sharing this one, Mike!
I could tell the ship was moving a lot faster than I normally see 1000 footer moving through the canal. I had to verify a few times with AIS. You could see it stayed at 10 kn or more through the whole until it made the turn. Wow! Pretty cool!⛴️👍

Yeah he was booking it.
@woodrowboudreaux9951 many people say that the ship has to be moving at a fast speed to do the turn like that.
Oh my, you are right. I’ve never seen a ship going that fast in the canal. Have a fabulous weekend Mike.
Vicki, I noticed something was different and I realized it was the speed right when it got by me. That’s the fastest 1000 footer went by me so far.

My much older brother sailed on the Arthur Anderson, My mother, born on the kitchen table of Middle Neebish lighthouse, was a regionally well-known watercolorist (Pat Norton) who painted freighters mostly, and my Grandfather spent 42 years as a lighthouse keeper (Whitefish Bay Light, Iroquois Point Light and Middle Neebish)
I grew up in the closest private residence to the shipping channel on the Great Lakes that I am aware of (Across from Neebish Island on a point that stuck out into the river just above the rock cut).

I love those horn blasts. Reminds me of steam powered trains. Great video! Thanks.
Impressive entry! Even better turn
The captain gots my vote for great driver!

These ships are magnificent! I've never seen a Great Lakes ship like that in person. Hope to someday visit Duluth and see the arrivals and departures for myself!
Kurt, thank you for watching the video on the comment. If you ever do make it to Duluth, let me know ahead of time and we will watch a ship together. They are absolutely amazing going by in person. It’s hard to believe they float on water. I hope you subscribe (it’s free) and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. It’s all about having fun with the ships!👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️

Scoutcrafter sent me over!
He was like a formula 1 driver setting up for the turn.
Wendy, it is so fun to always read your comments. You do such a great job. It’s always fun hearing from you.
That’s coming in fast!❤️
It was like 1000 foot lightning bolt coming through the canal! What an awesome ship and cool captain!
That ship looked awesome and pretty fast.
It definitely had some hot sauce on it coming through the canal
Just started watching your channel Mike, very, very interesting, from the North East of England.
I can tell that you love the ships and the water just like I do, brother
Great vid, gives a good idea of its massive size.

DO THESE LONG SHIPS NOT HAVE BOW STEERING? TO HELP PREVENT OVER AND UNDER STEERING BY ACCIDENT?
Good question. They do have bow thrusters that help them turn better. Many of the big ships have it. I you subscribe (it’s free) and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. It’s all about having fun with the ships!👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️
Nice video Mike keep it up
Justyna! It’s wonderful hearing from you friend. How have you been? It’s getting colder here in Minnesota. The snow will start flying very soon. I’m glad that you enjoyed the ship video. All the best to you.
Thanks for sharing, Captain must have needed the rest room.
That boat was moving
Or NASCAR!
That was a good one ! Impressive.
It’s definitely a powerful ship
Is there a duty bridge tender that gets a call to come and raise the bridge? What if he gets a flat tire or has an accident on the way over? What are ships standing orders in regards to how far out they have to stay until bridge is raised? Never be able to stop that ship doing 10 kts......would be half a mile at least.
Hey, check this out! This explain the Aerial Lift Bridge operations center. The small house in the middle of the bridge. That’s where the bridge operator controls it. This video brings you right inside. There’s a person in there 24/7 during the shipping season.

We are good people from around the world like yourself that that initially started out talking about ships but we have branched out into whatever conversation we want that is completely positive and stress-free. Some people talk about recipes, other people will talk about animals, etc. I hope you subscribe and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. @@vibewithmike It really is fun. I'm glad to find others who think the same. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Subbed for life.
@coolhand3328 i’m really happy that you are enjoying this channel. And I do get kind of wild and energetic when I see these ships, sometimes may be a little too much. However, this is a hobby of mine that gives me a break from work and life in general, I hope it does the same for others. These ships are non-controversial and it’s just pure coolness in my opinion to see these beautiful ships. Thanks again for your comments and being part of the channel brother.
Nice work captain !
Stunning how much that thing weighs... and it floats

I don't know why the Soo locks have not been expanded to longer and wider to accommodate much larger ships
On the oceans bulk carriers exceed 1,200 feet long and 200 feet wide. They can probably carry over 4 times the volume and weight
of one of these great lakes carriers.
Wendy, that is such a bucket list item for me to visit the Soo Locks
@@vibewithmikeThey are working on opening another Poe sized lock. That lock will replace 2 older locks. It will be open in a few more years. With coal shipments on the decline, and ample ship capacity now for ore, we will most likely not see any greater than 1000 foot vessels built anytime soon. But when another Poe sized lock opens, that will help reduce backups.
wow Mike... that's faster than I can walk... hahaha... i'm 75 though in Wyoming, Michigan.
I hope everything is great in Michigan. That ship is moving faster than I can run. That was crazy cool. It was fun, watching the captain move that ship in such a professional way, that turn was awesome.
I was there twice with scout troops. What a wonderful place to visit!
Thanks for your work with the Scouts! I hope you had good weather in Duluth.
WOW, think that is the fastest since I have been watching!
Halfway through the canal, I realized it was probably the fastest thousand footer I’ve seen in the canal
Absolutely mind blowing.

That's moving all right!!!
It was fun, watching the captain’s skills in the canal
Greetings from East Grand Forks MN.
Greg, I’m guessing you don’t have any snow there in EGF? Maybe you do? Thanks for watching the ship.
It's beautiful 😊

Keeping those ships moving at a fast speed is a good idea though
I can watch some huge ships on their way to Hamburg on the Elbe but seeing one that big and fast up close is just amazing.
The White City across the bay looked magnificent, although it seems it has gone to the dogs since then…
Mike……thanks for all cool words from your perspective 🤠
Thank you very much for that nice comment Jeffrey. I really hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday and I hope you have an even better Sunday my friend.

Howdy Mike 🤠. Been watching your videos for several weeks. Definitely appreciate your passion for big ships at the canal.
@jeffreyerickson3050 thank you so much. We will keep having some fun together with these ships. It’s going to get really rad when it gets snowy and the ice is out there too.
