There is CGI, just not with Carrey's direct facial expressions. He learned to talk and do the facial expressions himself. The really complex stuff, like at 2:06 when his mouth falls down and his tongue rolls out, or at 2:16, when his heart is beating out of his chest, or when his head turns into a howling dog- that's ILM's CGI. Those kinds of things can't be realistically done any other way and look convincing. CGI was starting to really get sophisticated and available around the mid '90s, especially after Jurassic Park had come out.
Fun Fact: The Mask, in the rewritten script for Carrey, had the nightclub scene in SoCal, but no nightclub allowed them to interrupt nightly business. Jim told the director he owned a club called the Coco Bongo in Mexico and they could use it. So this scene was filmed in Carrey's personally owned nightclub in Mexico.
Was Jim Carrey even rich enough to own a nightclub before The Mask? he was a moderately successful standup comedian, no way he had the millions to afford a personal club.

I love the plot twist in this movie where the obvious bad evil girl ends up being loyal and trustworthy, while the good nice trustworthy woman ends up betraying. To few movies do this. And its the only movie that managed to suprise me with this plottwist. Every other movie I saw it coming.
I kind of respect her. She had enough of the Hollywood and putting up with crap so she just quit got married and started a family. Instead of going on and on in a toxic industry

Well on IMBD, it says that the special effects crew was able to save a lot of money since Jim Carrey was so naturally cartoony with his expressions and body movements. So whenever the SFX *is* used, it really stands out (in a good way).

Cameron also looked good in Something About Mary and My Best Friend's Wedding. :) She started to look a bit haggard in Bad Teacher but that makes sense as Bad Teacher she was almost 40..... In. Annie 2014, however, she looks BETTER than Bad Teacher despite being 42 in Annie.... Hmm.
Its part of the Mask's powers. Kinda has this weird radiating, lingering effect on most people around him, especially extras and background characters.
If you want a continuation I recommend the animated series from 1995, it's a fun cartoon and it has Rob Paulsen (from Animaniacs) as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask. 😁

I know Jim Carrey is not big on doing sequels and actually walked away from a huge contract offer for a second mask, but with the right story lines, this could’ve been a great trilogy/saga.

I know Jim Carrey is not big on doing sequels and actually walked away from a huge contract offer for a second mask, but with the right story lines, this could’ve been a great trilogy/saga.
But what could the plot of the sequel been about? The mask was thrown into the river at the end and Stanley didn’t need the mask as he got Tina in the end

Tragically, it did not live up to the same hype as its precedessor and was a critical flop.
In a way they did do sequels when they made the cartoon series for 3 seasons on CBS.
I'm glad they didn't ruin it with more sequels, sequels generally suck
