Everyone seems to hate the more undulous terrain in settlements. It's probably just me, but I seem to have a harder time when trying to build something aesthetic to me in the more flat settlements. I find the more convoluted topography brings out the creativity in my builds - frustration included. I've tried doing something with Starlight three times (it's an awesome space), but my general love of asymmetrical elements doesn't seem to pay off in that space. You've done a decent job here, but it's just missing that uniqueness that you have managed to bring to other settlements. Just my thoughts. Kepe up the great, inventive work!
Sorry for there being no video yesterday - still getting used to this whole self-employed lark and keep mismanaging my time a little. Ended up it being 11pm and I had several unfinished projects and nothing video-ready. This might happen occasionally as these videos are quite time-consuming, so apologies in advance. I'd recommend following me twitter if you haven't already so you know when a video is coming - as the rare instances where I miss an upload; you can bet I've guiltily tweeted out a grovelling apology : twitter.com/norespawns
I love the random bench out the front just for those settlers that want to live on the edge. Can I suggest turning coastal cottage into a house for Strong
norespawns gorka morka? in only 13 and I still play that along with others like space Hulk,, in fact I still use modles from gorka morka in my current army in 40 k like all there trucks
One thing I do is look around the world of the commonwealth for inspiration to build. I look at scrap sheds of bunker hill or underground train stations for ideas. Like open areas to sit and relax.
@@redwind5150 Yeah one of the things I've taken to doing is finding a table with junk on and grabbing it and using that on tables in my settlements, really helps keeping it lore friendly
As an x box person, I used the WHOLE settlement, like that shit was a second diamond city and no frame loss due to some mods that downgraded the graphics like a nudge. Also I can turn the screen on and play movies! It's the shit
Speaking of knocking junk over, i'd say the best part of the place anywhere mod isn't being able to negate the rug and pillar glitches, it's being able to make objects either static or dynamic at will.
I actually spent the time climbing the starlight building from the outside and using track lighting to light up the starlight name and planet at the top lol. Didn't look as good as I'd hoped, next time I'll use neon and see how it looks. Great fort though man your walls are the most natural and realistic walls of any builder I'd seen on TH-cam. Great idea mixing warehouse and junk fence, looks amazing.
I think you're simply THE most creative person making Fallout 4 build videos and as a PS4 user myself, I'm thrilled that you show what can be accomplished with the vanilla game (and judicious use of glitching). Most other youtubers who have been focused on Fallout 4 are dying on the vine now that it's "over" - but it's clear that you could keep going for a long time. I've posted no videos myself, but I've ripped off most of your ideas for my own settlements (and riffed on a few of them with nice effect). My favorite thing is the "fishbowl" fusion generator, which I have in four or five settlements now. And I'm nuts about junk fences. You're right - they're just super fun to make. The big difference is that I've been playing ONE game save since I started. Just one. And so now I'm not simply having framerate problems, but I'm having serious crashing problems. My Nuka World Red Rocket is pretty much off limits to me now. Every time I open the workshop - CRASH. And it's also happened to me in a few other places. I think this is combination of reasons. For example, I have 15-20 settlers at every settlement AND I've got loads of stuff glitched together AND I'm increasing the build limit in most settlements with the "drop guns" glitch AND, like you, all of my resources have been scavenged or purchased (often using Jet!) - which means every workshop has many hundreds of items. Have you had similar problems exceeding what the PS4 can handle in terms of the size of the game save? Also, have you had any special difficulty with NW Red Rocket crashing the game?
Granted, the system doesn't work well with that idea but it's easy enough to nudge the plebs to stay in certain areas once they spawn. But for people who like the idea of small focused structures, this could help keep the number of settlements down; I hate defending settlements and only use 2-3 in any given play through.
Erich Salvesen so you're telling me u haven't done that? Spectacle island is a city on my guy, like starlight drive in, and sanctuary. And u haven't done that?
Well, what I done for my Spectacle Island was instead of having the main town with all the houses and shops in one concentrated area and then having it completely walled off, I had my main marketplace where the Greenhouse and the pre-war bombed out structure is and then had the residents' houses spread over across the island so every settler had their own sort of acreage.
Hey Davey, let me just say your builds are amazing and inspiring and not to mention lore friendly, which I think is a key detail to making settlements interesting. Its a shame that all but a few TH-camrs with mods rarely put this much effort and thought into their builds like you do, but I appreciate the time you put into your vids they've inspired me to post my own content on my channel though none of it is as good as your work. I look forward to seeing more good fallout content (if ps4 users actually get mods) from your channel, and thanks for inspiring me. :)
I like how your boxcar security post could also kind of double as like the mayor of the town looking down on his settlers or giving like major speeches. Similar to Immortan Joe in Mad Max Fury Road. "It is buy my hands, you will rise from the ashes of this world!" Fucking brilliant mate. Idk if that was intentional but beautifully executed regardless.
i was active in Warhammer/40K in the early to late 90's, first saw them in the late 80's. It was a golden age for Games Workshop and other miniature companies. Great job on the building, very inspiring.
I found using that the wooden misc item that looks like a pier (the one that's flat with legs) makes for a great wall superstructure. Then use junk walls on either side to make a very strong-looking wall. It can take a bit of effort if you make a multi-story wall, but it looks great. Also, you can make a nice platform on the top of the projector building at Starlight. Wind platforms and stairs around the structure to the top and build from there. Pleasing view, and a good place to put stuff you don't want to be messed with by NPCs.
Gorkamorka: now that was one of the better WH 40K games. I miss my Storm Boyz.... Anyway, great video as usual, Davey. Great work. Gonna use this for my Starlight Drive-In. Cheers!
Very cool! I appreciate your building techniques. I'd like more videos like this, though. It's really cool to hear about your inspiration for your builds.
Hey Davey, I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet (I thought I'd cover myself first beforehand); but I was thinking that you could use the elevators from the Contraptions dlc to construct a pretty neat Power Armour structure: You could place the Power Armour on the elevator with a Power Armour stand and assorted armoury-related workbenches, tool racks, etc. (basically create an area that your character would repair/construct power armour within). Then when you call for the elevator, the suit either drops from the ceiling (from another level) or RISES THROUGH THE FRICKEN GROUND (with the workspace). Neat eh? Either that or I'm just as mad as always (it's probably the latter). Cheers, love the builds as always.
Hello man ive been watching your videos for a few months right now and just want to say thank you and im really glad that you use a ps4 too so we have the same limits xD but ive learned alot from your videos. at first i copied it all but now im just copying a little and extend on my own. but TL;DR thanks alot for these videos man keep em up
Really love this build, and it's given me a good idea for what to do with it for my next playthrough! Had a lot of trouble with it the first time around, because I both wanted to have it look halfway decent and like any other wasteland settlement, but then also have it secretly be a Railroad settlement with a place to hide the teleporter and such... Failed completely, lol.
reminds me of violet's encampment with all the dogs in FNV - near the Poseidon Gas Station (3 card bounty). All your missing is junkyard mutts and cannibalistic fiend with a bad attitude
Have you done anything with your Hangman's Alley settlement? It has so much potential, especially now since Nuka World/Raiders. I just suck at making it look good.
After watching your last video on Starlight I was inspired to create something there. I took the idea of the dinner area and the entrance but turned mine into a medical office. I also used a few busses in the walls where settlers lived and turned the area where the Workshop is into a massive warehouse. The main feature of the settlement has to be the battle arena which is located near the old film screen.
have you though to do a build in the parmacy witch is also an entrance to vault 88 you do another player home build like home plat i haven't seen any one do something with that space yet
best way ive found to check fps is odd but if you vo to bed see how long it takes for the hour to start going by if it takes to long and goes to slow you have put to much down
The set up itself is smaller than I expected given the high standard I'm used to watching these videos. But it's given me an idea that because part of the ground is not straight all the way. So I think I'll follow that example of not as big plus where the farming area is. Good job here even still.
I think the trouble with starlight is you have the cool looking diner and the great looking cinema end and to combine them is hard and to choose which to use is harder
This might be my favorite one you’ve done so far it’s so compact but it works great because It’s such a big area I would have tried to use the whole space and it would have looked awful lol
dang it Dave, you had to mention GorkaMorka.. im getting flashbacks from the chase scenario.. so awesome. I did win. my wreckers was red! da red uns go fasta!
I think mostly to involve trains in the build, but I'm planning to turn Starlight into my main 'city' settlement, aka lot's of trading posts, lot's of open areas, markets, hotels, etc. Basically I'm making a number of supply lines converge on Starlight, and turning it into the Commonwealth's Hub. I'm still deciding if I want to put all my unique shopkeeps in Sanctuary or Starlight, but probably Sanctuary because it's where one of them has to go first anyway. Starlight would be a long term project, next to Storm's EndI mean The Castle. ...there's a lightning bolt on the Minutemen flag, there's quests to defend it from waves of enemies, and it's right on the coast. Fuck yes I'm calling The Castle Storm's End. One thing to note of coming from PC is the amount of stuff I have access to without DLC. Those barricades for one thing. Now I see why people complain about it.
SirthOsiris make all of your provisioners Go To Starlight. Pack it full of as many settlers as you can inflate your charisma to allow and have every one of them either some sort of shop keeper or guard. As it would be supply lined to 35 other settlements, you wouldn't have to waste time with food production. Any one settlement dedicated to food would compensate.
Nah, I got a plan, where Starlight is just in the center of a number of settlements in the north. County Crossing might serve the same purpose in the east, but on a smaller scale, and still sending people to Starlight. Hangman's Alley will also be an entrance point for a few settlements going north, through Oberland Station. I'm going to use Paint to figure it out.
Been using a lot of your videos to build settlements. I love how you put the box cart against the bus but I can work out how you got the box cart to drop down could you do a tutorial on my build that that please.
Ha yes! GorkaMorka!!! Loved the look and style of that game, never actually played it, was more into the modelling and what not but yes, all that shanty looking terrain/buildings were great. No patience for all that painting these ;P
When are you going to do the sirene activated doors? Whenever you get attacked the settlers close the gates and open them when the threat is gone. How can you not like that for your settlements?
Isaac Cardenas It can be done without mods. I've done it a couple of times on the PS4. I always used the wire glitch to do it. There are a couple of TH-cam videos that show you how.
I'm curious, Davey, on why you mention FPS so frequently in this particular video. It doesn't seem like the largest settlement you've ever built, and even when you mention Sanctuary, I recall you defending the FPS dips as being quite reasonable/playable. Is there anything new that you're doing that is more resource hungry? Cause again, this Starlight Drive-in seems actually pretty small compared to the potential build size of other locations & here.
It's more that when I started this new save after that major Sanctuary - I actually REALLY noticed the difference. I'd gotten so used to how clippy the old Sanctuary was that I'd just stopped noticing the different if I'm honest. The things that seem to affect it the most are lights and decorative items. I basically just build until I start to see some kind of change in the FPS and then try and wind things down a little.
norespawns settlers take a beating too! And not so much a problem here, but at finch farm for example the long bushes drop the rate even without building!
*GorkaMorka* eh? Now ain't dat da fonniest lil' hoomie aroond, tryin'z ta build all Orky-like! Well den, where'z all da *DAKKA!?* You gotz dem flashie-light turrets like 'em impyreel-gitz use! :D
drop a minigun on the floor and (outside of the workshop) hold select so you're 'carrying' it. You can then use that to nudge the skeletons out of the settlement. Grenades also work.
Thanks! Will check that! I hoped they would disappear after building some concrete floor upon them, but... next time you travel back to the settlement...whoop! they are back on top :D
god i loved necromunda! for me rodent headwear was a must! not sure if it would be possible to make a FO4 settlement round those guys but most of the gangs could work if you cherry picked your settlers
Everyone seems to hate the more undulous terrain in settlements. It's probably just me, but I seem to have a harder time when trying to build something aesthetic to me in the more flat settlements. norespawns Davey you really should do a Mordheim gameplay. I'd love to see you play either Chaos, or maybe the Eternally triggered Witch Hunters.
He doesn't tweet all too much either, in case you're afraid he'll clog up your dash or anything. Unlike SOME people.
norespawns gorka morka? in only 13 and I still play that along with others like space Hulk,, in fact I still use modles from gorka morka in my current army in 40 k like all there trucks
Starlight is one of the easiest places to make badly I don't even know why
One thing I do is look around the world of the commonwealth for inspiration to build. I look at scrap sheds of bunker hill or underground train stations for ideas. Like open areas to sit and relax.

Speaking of knocking junk over, i'd say the best part of the place anywhere mod isn't being able to negate the rug and pillar glitches, it's being able to make objects either static or dynamic at will.
I still keep coming back here, Starlight is my favourite settlement, and this build is absolutely awesome.
I actually spent the time climbing the starlight building from the outside and using track lighting to light up the starlight name and planet at the top lol. Great build Davey. I've recently been using a lot of your examples to (finally) build up my settlements. Thanks!
love the whole concept of the scapyness and of a small village at starlight drive in
Would love to see you build a Western style town someplace. I think it'd be very appropriate for the post-apocalypse
Like Abernathy farm, or at finch farm
Have you considered turning a large settlement, such as Sanctuary or Spectacle Island, into multiple 'towns'?
Erich Salvesen that's a good idea!
Granted, the system doesn't work well with that idea but it's easy enough to nudge the plebs to stay in certain areas once they spawn.

I've neglected Spectacle Island for so long but recently I had the idea of turning it into like a beach town (where every shop sells Spectacules)
love it! It has so much detail in the build itself I didnt even miss the "junk" decorations
You "rabbiting" on is one of the reasons I love your videos. Keep it going!!!

YASSSS
YES! I'm not the only one who thinks of Gorka Morka when building settlements!
You sound like a crazy person.
Love you videos, I get my settlement inspiration from them. They are wonderful. BTW your rambling is part of what makes them so great.

Nice! I like building with concrete a lot, but things do turn up less "special" when everything is grey and blocky. I like your style chap

Yeah, I found the last five minutes kind of weird. I'm sure there were a bunch of people though, that found the first fifteen minutes pretty weird.

I had turned starlight into my own adaptation of a combo between nuka world & Diamond City. Nice build btw
It's not gonna be long til he proposes to the concept of 'ramshackle and tatty.' Looking forward to the ceremony.
Great build. Love the hidden vault bunker.
« But I got my milk. Because…because the milk. » best reason ever to have a milk distributer
Love it! Working on my Starlight right now, hope it looks half as good ❤

Glad to see Davey's not born in a barn. Your parents would be so proud :)
I think the trouble with starlight is you have the cool looking diner and the great looking cinema end and to combine them is hard and to choose which to use is harder
This settlement definitely has a GorkaMorka feel to it.
Where'd you buy the dog at in Far Harbor?
This might be my favorite one you’ve done so far it’s so compact but it works great because It’s such a big area I would have tried to use the whole space and it would have looked awful lol
Gorkamorka!! I hadn't even thought to use things like that for ideas. :D

Have you run into any corrupt issues with any of the dlcs having bad bug issues with the contraptions dlc
Davey, great build as always! Question for you... Back in your PS4 days, you had these Railroad signs on boards. Any idea what mod that was?
What DLC or mod lets you put down buses and traincars?
Great idea for starlight drive in dude. i recently brought fallout 4 and this is great inspiration 👍
Can you add this to the playlist of your other tours
You've got more rabbit than Sainsbury's. Chas and Davey
I love this build man!
Can you do a video on making robots? What do you think about when you design them?
where do I get those hanging bottles?
Looks amazing.
Necromunda is the best! I love making scenery for it that I base on stuff from this, I want to recreate a few builds I have made too
Been using a lot of your videos to build settlements. I love how you put the box cart against the bus but I can work out how you got the box cart to drop down could you do a tutorial on my build that that please.
It would be cool to have shacks at the same level of the bus all over the rest of the area, or joint it with the big screen with scavaging items. ^-^
If its not modded how the hell can you build all this things? where do you get all the scrap to do it? (Im new in your channel)
Can you please do another castle detailed tour please ?
do you use mods?? or just in game glitches
Dude I still have all my Gorka Morka books.
Btw there are rumors of a revised Necromunda with plastic models coming out soon
Ha yes! GorkaMorka!!! Loved the look and style of that game, never actually played it, was more into the modelling and what not but yes, all that shanty looking terrain/buildings were great. No patience for all that painting these ;P
I am trying to improve my settlement building, what mods do you utilize?
When are you going to do the sirene activated doors? Whenever you get attacked the settlers close the gates and open them when the threat is gone. How can you not like that for your settlements?
I don't think it's possible to get them to close the doors without mods, and that's a type of mod ps4 can't get
Isaac Cardenas It can be done without mods. I've done it a couple of times on the PS4. I always used the wire glitch to do it. There are a couple of TH-cam videos that show you how.
I've done it to most of my settlements. With the NAND gate it works perfectly
how did you snap the junk fences together? every time I try there's always a small gap between each piece, it has me pulling out my hair lol.
no he rug glitch them if you search on his old videos you'll find a tutorial about how to do it
I'm curious, Davey, on why you mention FPS so frequently in this particular video. It doesn't seem like the largest settlement you've ever built, and even when you mention Sanctuary, I recall you defending the FPS dips as being quite reasonable/playable.

norespawns settlers take a beating too! And not so much a problem here, but at finch farm for example the long bushes drop the rate even without building!
lookin good, very junkie, very post apocalyptic. you should name the robot Shiny.
How did u get the army barriers? I've never seen them in the workshop
Dalton pugh-Roberts vault Tex dlc you have to do the main quest
My game glitched, I go back to clear the drive in and no one is there. I killed off the raiders I sent there as overboss while ago. Cool vid.
This is really good. luvs it
WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THIS??!!!😫
Especially the glitches!!
Im making a Spectacle Island city and It I would be super stoked if I could show you somehow!

How about a "getting the benevolent leader Trophy/achievement" video?
Haha I've been hyped for this :D
Could you please add this to the mods from you.
Brilliant as always! And, people who skip your talking have no souls.
I'm sure they probably know that.

How did you get rid of this annoying skeletons inside the settlement? The ones that can't be moved....
drop a minigun on the floor and (outside of the workshop) hold select so you're 'carrying' it. You can then use that to nudge the skeletons out of the settlement. Grenades also work.
Thanks! Will check that! I hoped they would disappear after building some concrete floor upon them, but... next time you travel back to the settlement...whoop! they are back on top :D
Yeah, they're like bloody Jehovah's Witnesses trying to recruit people into the Skeleton War. That meme is still a thing right? It's seasonal.
Or you could use the disable command.
Those fuckin' commando ghouls, damn...
Also, did you place random carrots around in the dirt? If there's one thing to take away from this build, I think it's that. I like that touch.
Ye out done Ye self here Davey Ol' Boy
Call me crazy, but I would live in that settlement.
norespawns do you give your psn name to your viewers?
He only gives out his steam name.
god i loved necromunda! for me rodent headwear was a must! not sure if it would be possible to make a FO4 settlement round those guys but most of the gangs could work if you cherry picked your settlers
Wooo, warhammer bros. Nostalgia trip
I am definitely copying this!
Davy don't get me wrong the base is cool but the main door is a wee bit of a disappointment
I think that was the idea.
for the longest time i thought his name was nore- spawn
orks? heresey! purification is needed XD
No water purifier?
D Hunt don't need them if a supply lined settlement over produces.
I put them at everyone to keep decent happiness
D Hunt water purifiers do not effect happiness.
Everything does. Having water and food in the settlement gives more happiness than having it brought in via supply line
Water purifiers DO affect happiness
You can use the other ones though
WRAAAH! THEY DESTROYED MY WAAAGH BANNER!
