Aren't trains and subways risky, though? It seems like a lot of people are getting assaulted and robbed. In America, the violent offender will be out hours later. While the victim is still in the hospital.
I’ve been doing some research . It looks like Joby arch and others in the UK have contracts with NDAs so it kind of makes sense we are giving up big air space to test these things I can only guess to see what a high traffic situation would be like. Makes no sense that shoulders are being shrugged .
It's doubtful that these will become large scale commercially viable. The amount of commercial helicopter pilots aren't as numerous as these companies are making it seem, sure you can build them, but who will fly them? Helo pilots are getting more and more expensive if you can find them and those who started as rotor pilots are converting to fixed wing due to the salaries of airline or even just fixed wing pilots in general.
The FAA recently introduced a new pilot certification category for powered-lift aircraft, so we will soon see dedicated powered-lift pilots in addition to existing helicopter and fixed-wing pilots, depending on how well the economics work out for the air taxi industry.
Maybe, but the FAA, if they are smart, will still require self-flying air taxis to have licensed human pilots because if there is a failure with the autopilot system, there must be someone qualified behind the yoke who can take the controls and land the aircraft safely without injury to the passengers it carries.
It's not just a helicopter. It's also a plane. A Heliplane, if that makes it easier for you to understand. A tiltrotor aircraft like the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. Flies slightly slower than a plane (additional drag created by huge rotors), but faster than a helicopter (has fixed wings to generate additional lift).
I agree. Even after air taxis begin operations, the majority of those in the middle class will still have a long while to wait before prices come down enough to make the service affordable to the average citizen.
Want to get a feel for what Joby's S4 sounds like in comparison to Archer's Midnight? We took a dB meter and a video camera to the airports where they conduct their test flights: th-cam.com/video/FFguE2qWPfk/w-d-xo.html
They're not, but I think the launch has been delayed to early 2026 to be on the safe side, just to provide some extra time for passenger-carrying tests before public air taxi operations begin.
I don’t imagine a woman with a walker is going to order one of these. I wonder if someone will order an air-taxi instead of an ambulance to get them to the hospital. Wonder if someone will give birth in the backseat. Wonder if someone tries to jack the air-taxi with a gun 😂 Jesus….the amount of problems to occur with this is ASTOUNDING. It’ll only be reserved for people with money and no criminal background. (Yes, background checks are required to ride in this 😂)
Honestly? Do you KNOW how LOUD these are? Do you care if they flew over YOUR house at any time, day or night ? This is a question of NOISE POLLUTION. It's not a case for Ingenieurs wishing everyone a Flint Stone Lifestyle...
Ah, air taxis-because regular traffic jams and honking horns weren’t quite maddening enough! Imagine the sheer delight of having a swarm of glorified oversized drones buzzing overhead, turning your peaceful day into the soundtrack of a high-speed chase scene. Nothing says "modern utopia" like constant whirring, buzzing, and the occasional sonic boom above your head while you're trying to enjoy a cup of coffee. Can’t wait for the inevitable "air taxi rush hour" when hundreds of these flying marvels crisscross the sky like confused mosquitoes, occasionally "recalculating" and possibly colliding. Oh, and who needs birdsong when you can have the dulcet tones of blades slicing through the air 24/7? Urban tranquility? Overrated. Let the drone apocalypse commence!
america will do anything than build trains
😅
I couldn’t agree with you more.
Facts like what we doing

High Speed Trains is the way to go. In Spain there’s the AVE
So, is this what's flying on the east coast?
These are the "drones" flying over New Jersey
My first thought.

I want to see airships make a comeback.
Techies are so obsessed with newness they never think things through. There will be crashes and people will die. You just watch
Doubt it.
Luckily for us on my planet, where we have absolutely no tech, we just crawl everywhere and we avoid crashes and deaths.
50,000 people die in America every year with regular automobiles
Not only that, but noise from air traffic is going to be insane.
No thanks
I'll let other people try it out for a decade or so before I decide. Also have to consider what their prices are.
@@YouCanCallMeReTro im with you no thanks!!!! just what we need not!!!!
FAA approval for low altitude. $500m from Toyota. 6 propellers, very stable and safe. Bring these online and clear the roads!
Clear the roads my ass. The only people taking these air taxis will be the affluent. That will hardly clear the roads.
This vehicle needs to be approve by FAA. You can't just fly anywhere you like without FAA approval.
What an absolute death trap.
Safer then a car 🚗

It's crazy that people say they will not ride in a driverless car, but they will take this. I say no. I don't want something falling on my house.

People of Manhattan in particular will be very happy to hear that news.
imagine the insurance rates..
Imagine the cost of the flight and the air traffic..
What about electric battery? will they explode while in the air?😐
Archer CEO guy is just creepy. That sales pitch voice if frightening.
ya then you get the one rich guy at the bar whos riding in one of these right next to you smellin like vodka 10,000 ft in the air lol

They might be automated but I still won't ride in one.

This is about to blow up on the stock market, stock price is still pretty low too
Can you send them to the hurricane victims please
So it’s a helicopter… Are people just gonna act like we don’t have these already?

Nope
Nope reminds me of the titan

Why did you display a longer route to travel from Manhattan to JFK when, in fact, taking the Belt Parkway is not necessary for this purpose?
Oh give me a break. it will cost just as much as a helicopter to take a ride. Don't let them fool you. It will be to expensive for most people.

Hopefully JOBY won’t get slow walked by the FAA. We need AAM to stay on track for a 2025 launch.
They're not, but I think the launch has been delayed to early 2026 to be on the safe side, just to provide some extra time for passenger-carrying tests before public air taxi operations begin.
