    Jeff's Aussie made Chrysler Valiant 1965 AP6 review. Small block solid 273 V8 automatic, TF 904 sedan with finned drum brakes. Similar car to USA Plymouth Valiant & Barracudas.
    Filmed on the Central Coast NSW in 1997. Dave Cleverly and Jeff Andersen decided to spontaneously whip up this quick video one afternoon on the way home from a big day of freelance TV News Crew media work for the TV stations. There were no rehearsals for this Valiant clip whatsoever ... just shoot and "action" :)
    (From memory we had just been to the Hunter Valley Vineyards and had lunch with, and interviewed the Aussie PM at the time John Howard) The 2 same version solid cam 273's later WON their class at Mt Panorama BATHURST in the next 1966 VC V8 Valiant model AUTOMATICS! These were driven straight out of the show room stock standard and they came in together straight behind the leading Full race trim lightweight Minis that year. Every other car was way behind the Aussie Vals!

    Had mine, best car ever! Even better than the XE ESP! I could roll start mine, 20mph drop into 2nd and there you go! Did swap out the front brakes to VC discs. Put air shocks on the back to carry 4 bikes and bike racers! Cried my eyes out when it got stolen!

    Mate of mines old man had the exact same car in the day for quite a few years - always loved that colour - remember it well. He finally traded it in for a new ZG Fairlane 351

    Chrysler tried to sell the Australian Valiant in the UK after they chopped the big Humbers. The dealers sampled them and said NO! Only a very few were sold in the UK through the main dealers actually owned by Chrysler (UK).

      Yes, our Valiants were Australian made and have different panels etc. The AP is for Australian production. But yes same basic great compact A body beasts. 👍

      @@SouthernHemi He forgets about the 1960 Valiant, and all Canadian-produced Valiants. They were never Plymouths, just Valiants. That's why the advertisements as said "Nobody's kid brother"! meaning that the Valiant wasn't a junior version of a make, it was it's own make of car.

    The roofline kind of looks like the much later Aspen/Volare! This Valiant is probably a much better built car though.

      Yes you are correct! I did mean that. You were the first one to pick that up. I hadn't even noticed it myself until you said that. (close enough Lol)

    👍🏻💯⛽️🇦🇺it should have finned drum brakes all round . Check the butterfly in the exhaust is not sized. They can carbon up on the cross over on the inlet manafold . Owned a VC 8 in the early 80 s in Spanish red black top black trim 👍🏻enjoy .

    I had the slant six AP6, last model with the rear oil pump in the transmission, engine and trans were great [carter Ball and ball carb was a bitch of a design] but the skinny tyres and 4.5 inch rims were S**t and the handling was bloody ordinary.

    Nice car ... but hardly a Muscle Car!

    • @SouthernHemi
      @SouthernHemi  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Back in those days that was well and truly an Aussie Muscle Car.
      In 1965 it was the first Aussie V8 made car and was in a compact A body and had a solid cam and well performing 273 V8 with twin pump 904 Torqueflite auto that chirped between gears and a Hurst type slap shifter on the floor. And she was quicker than most cars of the day and had superior adjustable Torsion bar suspension and cool looks. They can then be drastically improved very easily with just basic bolt-on anti-sway bars, good double acting shocks ,tyres, lowered in 2 minutes with the turn of a spanner and then just topped off with a good wheel alignment to corner very fast, like they are on rails!
      The very next model (The 1966 VC V8) in stock standard form with same engine, trans and rear axle, and even without the disc brakes option that was finally available, they won at Mt Panorama Bathurst! Nuff said. 😁 club.shannons.com.au/club/news/racing-garage/1966-bathurst-500-the-valiant-v8-automatics-that-conquered-the-mountain

    Just a damn shame you guys do not know how to pronounce Chrysler. It is NOT Chrys/ler as you say it. The correct pronunciation is as follows, Chry/sler. Sounds like Cry slur. There are videos of the man himself Walter P. Chrysler discussing the new Chry/ sler corporation and that is how he says it. Not that slurrry way you guys say it. Please spread the word.

      Yeah, fair enough & point taken but ... Nar, close enough yeah? As it's just sounds like unnecessary hard work to us. We Aussies are a bit lazy cause it's hot & humid over here in Straya, and also we just love to be laid back and make things easier not harder. We are intentionally very real & down to earth & "anti pompous" Lol! We probably actually even say it more like "Chryzla" 😄
