I had the slant six AP6, last model with the rear oil pump in the transmission, engine and trans were great [carter Ball and ball carb was a bitch of a design] but the skinny tyres and 4.5 inch rims were S**t and the handling was bloody ordinary.
Superior handling compared to other cars in 1965 and still considered to handle well nowadays too with simple upgrades of shocks, tyres etc. People don't maintain cars / parts like steering joints and then wonder why there are probs.
👌
Beautiful thing I have AP5 push button love it
Mate! My old boy bought an AP5 wagon brand new. Being a basic style of fella he widened a set of Ford rims out to 7” back in the day and swapped out the carb. On Sunday mornings the local Po’lice would drag race out Bibra lake with their (at the time) XR GT police pack. The AP5 225 could out do it. Take that to the bank
Chrysler tried to sell the Australian Valiant in the UK after they chopped the big Humbers. The dealers sampled them and said NO! Only a very few were sold in the UK through the main dealers actually owned by Chrysler (UK).
Their loss Lol 😁

Known as the Plymouth Valient in the USA.
Yes, our Chrysler Valiants were Australian made and have different panels etc. The AP is for Australian production. But yes same basic great compact A body beasts. 👍
@@SouthernHemi He forgets about the 1960 Valiant, and all Canadian-produced Valiants. They were never Plymouths, just Valiants. That's why the advertisements as said "Nobody's kid brother"! meaning that the Valiant wasn't a junior version of a make, it was it's own make of car.
@@jamesbosworth4191he didn't forget, he's talking only about the featured A body and the USA. There's no equivalent C body valiant anywhere outside oz either
Just a damn shame you guys do not know how to pronounce Chrysler. It is NOT Chrys/ler as you say it. The correct pronunciation is as follows, Chry/sler. Sounds like Cry slur. There are videos of the man himself Walter P. Chrysler discussing the new Chry/ sler corporation and that is how he says it. Not that slurrry way you guys say it. Please spread the word.
Yeah, fair enough & point taken but ... Nar, close enough yeah? As it's just sounds like unnecessary hard work to us. We Aussies are a bit lazy cause it's hot & humid over here in Straya, and also we just love to be laid back and make things easier not harder. We are intentionally very real & down to earth & "anti pompous" Lol! We probably actually even say it more like "Chryzla" 😄 How to teach an Australian English: th-cam.com/users/shorts4Do29freXc0?si=OLNYQ0N8-n7GtdO4 (If this link doesn't work from within TH-cam just copy & paste it into an internet browser)
Come on, not that big a deal, at least they don't pronounce it "Chryzler" the way some Europeans do.
How do you pronounce Dana? Dayna or Darna? It's Darna.

Love the Mopar brotherhood in Australia, just like here in the US. I’m fascinated by that Hemi 6, we have the slant 6 here with the performance version being called the “Hyper Pak”. It even came with an Aluminum block! I’d love to get a few Hemi 6 engines shipped to the US, up here almost no one has ever seen one in real life. I’m trying to find a parts house that would crate up a few and send them north so we yanks can enjoy actually seeing one in person. The rumor here is that the Hemi 6 was developed for North America but deemed to close in cost to our V8’s like the 318, 340(most underrated small block ever) and 360.
AP6, my favorite model wog chariot. 😁😁
I have no idea what you mean he he 😉
My grand father had a two door version of that car in red. This is one of the few cars that looks better as a 4 door. Your car is beautiful and sounds soooo good.
Yes Brian's car is nice. However they never came in 2 door versions apart from the Utes. (See my VC Ute Video) You would've had a Barracuda which are very cool!
@@SouthernHemi I live in the US where they did build a 2dr version of the Valiant.
Hi, Yes very cool. We had 2 door versions in later models, some were uniquely Australian. Please check out my other Videos.
Cool !
What a cool old "Slant 6" Valiant. However, i must respectfully disagree with your vid title description "Hemi" "Six Pack". It appears your Valient is a "Hyper Pak" 6 (No Hemi). I'm a classic Mopar(s) owner for over 40 years (1965 Coronet presently) and i have owned a true 440 "six pack" SuperBee. (Never could afford a Hemi.)
Hi, this is definitely NOT a Slant six wedge, but is indeed fitted with a later model vertical HEMI 6. You have had some cool cars! But people... Please read the description. I have been a Mopar specialist since 1978 and my family since 1925. I have personally owned over 350 and have literally restored hundreds with my own hands from start to finish. In Mopar terms 6 Pack refers to 6 Barrels or a "Six Pack" carb set-up. Our Aussie made 6 cylinder HEMI 265 CID Six Pack engines were factory fitted with 3x2 BBL Italian side draft Weber carbs and and our Chrysler Valiant RT Chargers factory standard can do high 13 second quarter mile times with modern tyres and they corner like they are on rails and are all A bodies.
Dude , plz shut up if u dont know what ur talkin about, u dont get hyperpak Hemis, only the 4bbl slant is a hyperpak . But did u even WATCH the vid ? What angle is this Hemi slanting at?
@@clutchkicker392ison5 Il bet you wouldn't dare to try & tell me "shut up" to my face. Only sitting in your parents' basement behind a keyboard do you speak such foolishness.
Clutch kicker , what an ignorant person, fkn idiot
AP6 is the 3rd lightest Valiant made R/S then The AP5 then the AP6 VC is much heavier .
Yes, love all the early light compacts!
Owned about 50 Mopars 1 only AP6 Regal love the AP6 Factory V8 . Owned a Spanish red VC with black vinyl top and black trim in the late 70s into the early 80 s had the heads done sports exhaust 6 inch deep deep dish rims sway bar front and rear k-Mac and carb modes . It put many brand X V8 s to shame . Sold and brought a VG pacer that had some old school power modes 😀. My way to make them handle always the same brand of shocks all round same rim size all round same tyre size all round not jacked in the rear maybe a bit lower in the rear sway bar front and back 16.1 steering box or a sass sport wheel . And that goes for Charger and all makes👍🏻🇦🇺 . They will corner way better and sit on high speed for miles been there done that .
Amen brother
They went good in a straight line not real good on the corner i had 68 valiant white with chrome wheels venitian blinds fox tail chrome bird chrome mirrors and white pom poms what a lovely car unfortunately smashed it up. Then I went to a Chrysler by Chrysler then a valiant ranger a hemi 300c and now a 300 live the dream keep up the great video.
Thanks. :) A Hemi 300 C is a nice modern Mopar. However that was a myth in the old days about Vals not cornering, as most people flogged them to death and didn't maintain them (As they were so tough they kept going) Also admittedly CAL fitted inferior shocks from the factory, but that is easily and cheaply fixed. I have personally restored literally hundreds myself by hand and have owned over 350. I have always found them exceptional and was rarely out cornered by the competition. They were always better handling than the Fords and Holdens of the day due to their superior Torsion Bar suspension and most magazine reviews back then reflected that too. They can then be drastically improved very easily with just basic bolt-on anti-sway bars (especially for the early models that had none), good double acting shocks , good tyres, they are lowered in 2 minutes with the turn of a spanner and then just topped off with a good wheel alignment to corner very fast, like they are on rails! The Power Steer models can have their Caster adjusted to the max for race car style handling without any heavy steering effort at all.
UMMMMMMMMMM that's not a Hemi 6-Pack that a 6 Cylinder
Errrr I think you'll find that it is a hemi 265 with 6 pack carbs, hence a hemi 6 pack..... not to be confused with a 426 with triples also known as a "hemi 6 pack"
In Mopar terms 6 Pack refers to 6 Barrels or a "Six Pack" carb set-up. Our Aussie 6 cylinder HEMI 265 CID Six Packs were factory fitted with 3x2 BBL Italian side draft Weber carbs.
@@whakatu4life285 426 Hemis never had a 6 pack, they had 2, 4 barrels.... the 6 pack came on A12 RRunners/Super Bees, 340 T/A and a few others. '68 Roadrunner owner here in the UK, owned it 41 years

Brakes 4xdrum.
He upgraded to Discs all-round. Most Australian Chrysler Valiants had Front Disc Brakes, available from about 1966 and often finned rear Drums. 1970 to the last 1981 models were ventilated Discs on front.
as a kid my dream car was the '64 AP5 :-)
This has bought back some memories ,im 62 my pop gave me hes my 1st car when i got my licence in 1980.similar to your Valiant ,mine was jet black and had a continetal type kit on the bootlid ,it looked like a spare wheel on the boot but it was fake ,mates gave me stick as they had LJ/LC Toranas and v8 Falcons XW/XY ,my lil six couldnt keep up especially as is was a automatic with the leaning tower of power six cylinder ,i drove it for 8 months and back then there wasnt a lot of performance parts readily available ,pop was keen to work with me and between the two of us we swapped all running gear from a Dodge Phoenix into the Valiant ,4 barrel extractors higher revving cam from Iske ,unfortunately we failed to upgrade the braking system and i rear ended a XC wagon at the lights when the brakes cooked and went straight to the floor ,my two sons tried buying another in the early 2000s but that model Valiant 1962/63 was so hard to find in there budget ,maybe one day if i win the pools ,your having a great time racing your one round the track ,new subscriber glad to be here ,apologies if i prattled on a bit
I had a similar experience in about 1984 , I'd just finished re painting my VC Valiant Regal from gunmetal silver to black , it looked great , and one summers morning on my way to work , going up a hill in quite heavy traffic , I was completely blinded by the sun , and I ran into the back corner of a parked bus at a bus stop , there were 2 buses and the one I hit was sitting well out in my lane ,the impact destroyed my left side front fender , but no damage to the bus . It was insured and repaired , but I remember it was very difficult finding a replacement fender for it , even back then , but that was in New Zealand, I'm sure a replacement would have been much easier to find in Australia. 🙂
I have personally owned over 350 and restored hundreds of Vals and dismantled hundreds of rougher ones in the 1980's and 90's. www.southernhemimedia.com/about-us.html Even in Australia the 1966 VC model valiant is hard to get parts for and even I have never dismantled one for parts! They have always been popular and last very well. Hard to find any getting wrecked for parts. Kind regards, Jeff
@@SouthernHemi Yes, it's getting increasingly important to look after what you've got. Iv'e often thought about how hard it was to get a replacement VC front guard , and, If it was now , I suppose it would be an option to get one from America off a Plymouth Valiant, or Barracuda. Actually, thinking about that time I needed one in 1984 , it was the panel beater that did the insurance work that told me it was hard to find another guard , but in those days there was a wrecker right there in my town that had a paddock full of Valiants, and I'd be very surprised if he couldn't have supplied one ( the panel beater sourced one from the north island somewhere) . That's what Iv'e found over the years, a lot of people are full of BS , and you're better off doing your own searching. Very nice AP6 you've got there ,as I said in my other comment there was one that looked just like it with a 265 , where I lived in the early nineties, except, I've remembered it had a black roof. My father had an AP6 in the seventies, my first car was an AP6 in 1981 , have had quite a few other Valiants since , including a VG Pacer coupe that I brought back from Brisbane. Currently I have Dads old VH Ranger XL which he bought in 1980 , and an AP6 Regal. 👍

great watch love this little time capsule!
Nice car ... but hardly a Muscle Car!
Back in those days that was well and truly an Aussie Muscle Car. In 1965 it was the first Aussie V8 made car and was in a compact A body and had a solid cam and well performing 273 V8 with twin pump 904 Torqueflite auto that chirped between gears and a Hurst type slap shifter on the floor. And she was quicker than most cars of the day and had superior adjustable Torsion bar suspension and cool looks. They can then be drastically improved very easily with just basic bolt-on anti-sway bars, good double acting shocks ,tyres, lowered in 2 minutes with the turn of a spanner and then just topped off with a good wheel alignment to corner very fast, like they are on rails! The very next model (The 1966 VC V8) in stock standard form with same engine, trans and rear axle, and even without the disc brakes option that was finally available, they won at Mt Panorama Bathurst! Nuff said. 😁 club.shannons.com.au/club/news/racing-garage/1966-bathurst-500-the-valiant-v8-automatics-that-conquered-the-mountain
@@SouthernHemifair call it's a muscle car for the V8 in a light body, but... lowering the front on the torsion bars leaves the back high and it handles worse not better, especially with hard braking. Valiant had an eye catching futuristic look with the R and S series but 1963 A body looks are not dissimilar to contempories 1960 XL falcon or 1963 EJ Holden. This AP6 for 1965, in 1965 Holden had a new body with curved glass so more modern. Ford and Holden both had disc brake options in 1965 as well. From factory the valiant was better handling I think being a bit firmer, but if you're allowing adding uprated shocks and sway bars, holden and falcon will be more than on par
@@cruiser6260 After personally owning over 350 and personally restoring most, I can say if you know what you are doing it definitely improves handling and safety over the ridiculous factory high setting. The trick is get the back down too or don't overdo it / don't go to extremes or yes.
