Great look back Ian, keep up the great work.
There's a lot there with the control scheme. If you choose to just punch, kick, heavy grapple that's cool. I for sure ended up doing that at the end when I was grinding out the story mode to get the platinum trophy. If you pick a high flyer or someone with a hybrid offense with spring boards, rebound attacks, good strokes , and fun grapples.....there's a lot more to play with and enjoy about the matches even if they are short. That's what I meant about depth. It's more about depth in gameplay options depending on who you use rather than a deep strategic game.
I appreciate your reviews. When you sang it's praises last year I thought if Ian likes it it's probably a good game. I bought it for $20 earlier this year but haven't had time to sit down and enjoy it haha
When you find the time, let me know what you think. It’s a fun game, it’s just shallow. And unfortunately, very little depth was delivered over time. =\

Ive been an AEW fan since day 1 and I also lost interest in the shows for a while, especially after the Punk drama. I still watched Dynamite every week, but it might have been later on a Thursday or Friday. I've been back to watching every Wednesday night again (using Fite tv with a VPN) and they're finally getting their feet back under them and they're making changes. Most matches now have stories attached to them instead of feeling thrown together, they're doing more promos to help build feuds, wrestlers aren't appearing on TV then dissappearing for a month, top talent is coming back from long injuries, and MJF is back to being the most hated bastard in the business. The new writers seem to be having an effect and Tony seems to be listening to them. All good things. Now we just have to see if they can keep it up and get their momentum back.
I wanted so much for Fight Forever to be what it looks like Ultra Pro Wrestling actually will be. Looking to do any UPW content soon? Also, I'm 🚫 on X not sure why (was it the tags?) hope to have that sorted I enjoy your content
Great video, Ian. I hope AEW Games, Yuke's, and THQ Nordic listens to someone who gave them a rare positive review. I think you, OSW Review, and Matt McMuscles were the only major ones to do so. Melonbread1979 has a mod for FF with 3X health and other gameplay fixes which seem like they would easy for Yuke's to implement. All the AKI games and Fire Pro had health regeneration. Maybe they're all waiting on money from AEW's TV deal? Either way, I'm glad Melonbread is working with Ultra Pro Wrestling. Also I think people would dislike the button-mashing if there was a HUD option so they could see what's going on. People are complaining about tearing their controllers up. I like the fantasy arenas, but there has been so many new AEW PPVs like Wrestle Dream and World End plus old themed shows like Battle of the Belts, Fyter Fest, Chris Jericho Rock N Wrestling Rager etc. There should at least be parts for them in create an arena. Cage match is needed but there's also a handful of matches you encounter in Road to Elite like handicap (with and without tag) and gauntlet matches that aren't available in exhibition. Where's Texas tornado, Tag Ladder, Selectable suits in Casino Battle Royal? Exploding Barbwire besides just 1-on1? And there are no match toggles. I'd love to see something like WWF No Mercy's Survival Mode or WWE Smackdown's Slobberknocker. JR is there and, hell so is Taz, call it Rocketbuster Mode for all I care. And put some ability points in the shop so I have something to buy and I don't have to run every single CAW through RTE.
I can agree with what you’re saying here. It felt like a breath of fresh air when it hit, I had a great time with the gameplay and enjoyed my time with the story mode. But one of the reasons I used to love No Mercy so much was the CAW, which I was hoping to see Fight Forever give a major update post-launch. Sadly, that never happened. I’m willing to give a new game a chance if they come out the gate with great gameplay, improve on the things you mentioned, and with a HUGE CAW upgrade.
Full Entrances, Community Creations, Backstage/Crowd Fights, More Match Types, Universe Mode, A better Kickout System (its crazy) and I would be absolutly fine... I love the gameplay and looks of the game tbh and the sound (crowd) is amazing and ten times better than in WWE 2K games
I haven't even played the game since it released believe it or not. The WWE 2K games have had my undivided attention since 2K22. Those games have only gotten better, especially with the most recent game. I even feel that Fire Pro Wrestling World outshines Fight Forever, to me at least. AEW Fight Forever is definitely not a bad game, but it's just not the type of game that would intice me to buy it. Especially when I can just download AEW wrestlers, arenas and belts in 2K and FPW.
Now I wanna play No Marcy cause of that background music!!! And tbh I'm really debating about but The Acclaimed dlc because they're entrance is so entertaining!
I agree with most points. I still really enjoy the game and I have all the DLC, I thonk the DLC characters are insanely well made. What I'm missing is more aprons to make shows like collision and PPV, cage match, and I want full entrances. Not having full entrances actually hurt the game a lot imo. I want to get the atmosphere before I start a match. A couple 5 second entrances isn't enough. With all that said, I still enjoy the game ❤️
I like that the fact that AEW isn't doing a new game every year, but it's not something they should have implemented this time around. I think they should have moved on to a new game until they were able to get the right foundation built AND THEN use DLC and free updates to keep building and evolving it. I don't think Fight Forever is that right foundation. It was a decent first attempt that Jukes and AEW should learn from. They need to find a publisher who's willing to make the investment. THQ Nordic is not a publisher with a lot of capital to throw around, even with Tony Khan helping by investing his own money. I think an AEW game can sell well, but it needs to be a better game than Fight Forever and that takes money. A lot of money.
The problem they have now is the wwe 2k games are actually good now and this isn’t a wwe vs AEW mindset i stopped playing wwe games after 2k16 then picked up the last 3 and have got better each year
What's up, bro? It's been awhile since I've commented on one of your vids. I have Fight Forever but work and other responsibilities have kept me from playing it. I've heard the game leaves a lot to be desired, but I'll still give it a try. Anyway, keep rolling out the great content.
Every few months someone mentions the AEW game and it reminds me I’ve had it since launch on Switch and I just don’t bother to play it. Maybe I’ll play for a bit today. Maybe.
If they did a new season pass with new game modes like steel cage, ladder match with 3/4 people in(for free) newer arenas like All in, dynasty, etc I think a lot of people would be interested again but there just adding stupid modes. And the tournament mode which is coming out isn’t even the Owen hart tournament like come on ffs
I went all in way before day one. yukes had me excited and i payed full price and upfront and then they do the season stuff and i felt slapped for for it, i understand needing profit but we could get alot of the undercard ppl for free or ROH. I was a number 1 person to give them every chance, and they took my money and wanted more for what we should of had, Id rather pay for a yearly title that gets updated slightly then keep paying for dlc. We need the games to evolve and right now it just sits still as is.... Also wwe 2k20 had all those arenas for their dlc, wonder if it was a yukes thing, 2k20 had a cyberpunk street corner lol
To me, this really reminds me a lot of WCW vs NWO: Revenge. I just downloaded it for free. I haven't actively played games in years, but I think it would feel like a blast from the past. It's the kind of game that I'd enjoy. Play it for a little while, have some fun with it, put it away, and then pick it back up every now and again when I feel nostalgic.
a few things took me away from aew, after watching since day one, 1 Tony khan's comments, shit like "Adam Copeland Is On The Greatest Run Of His Entire Legendary Career In AEW" like wtf lol its almost like he's saying shit just to say it. 2 story lines, they dont have any and what ever story they have is a continuation story from another company the wrestlers were at, are we suppose to have followed everyone their entire career? what are these 6 year "story lines?" 3 random matches which should have been in a build up. and pay per view, but no no build, no story, just...heres a match with 2 great guys..... id rather have builds into matches rather than dream matches. 4 their pyros still sound like fireworks.....
The core gameplay is good, but the amount of resources that went into the mini games and a very lackluster CAW suite could’ve been used on more match types instead. Right now with a just tweak of the AI. You can add a Submission Match, 2/3 Falls, Tornado Tag, Handicap, Tables Match, Gauntlet, First Blood and a Backstage Brawl using sections of Stadium Stampede. Add a coffin and Cage Match and that would’ve been an awesome set of match types out of the gate. Second, adding a wardrobe feature for updated attires for current AEW stars would’ve gone a long way in getting a Jack Perry, Timeless Toni or Killswitch added. The CAW is so bare bones it’s almost embarrassing they even tried. It would’ve been so much better to get new attires on a monthly basis so you can update your wrestlers as they are on TV. The things they have added as content is straight up trash, a tournament mode you can set up on your own, the beat the elite is another 1v1 exhibition you can do on your own and those community creations that others have done that you can’t remove or edit in battle royal mode is straight up lunacy. Also, the AI and pin system needed severe tweaking, if those things would’ve been added and maybe another 3 season passes to add some missing arenas and wrestlers. This game would’ve been a solid A- instead it’s a D+ for the developers doing absolutely nothing but adding more wrestlers and charging a fortune.
I don’t think people want a “No Mercy” successor as much as they want the idea of a successor of it, No Mercy is a legendary game, but I’m not sure it’s style works in todays market. I dunno maybe I’m wrong, it feels like a better idea in nostalgia than it could actually ever be executed
I remember having low expectations before release due to the frequent delays and lack of status updates. We seemed to get a lot of hype and then radio silence in the months before release. As someone who loves wrestling and wrestling games (I purchased the abomination that is WWE 2K20), I bought Fight Forever on day 1 because I would be able to play as Punk and Yukes had a hand in the most iconic wrestling games of all-time. What could go wrong? We found out quickly that a lot could go wrong or simply be left out (I feel your frustration on cage matches being left out). Stadium Stampede is not something I can get into, and the limited mode variety makes the replay value piss poor. WWE 2K24 is the first wrestling game I've thoroughly enjoyed in over a decade. It has a stacked roster with a much more polished look and feel from the last few half-assed releases. I love the countless possibilities I can create in Universe mode. Hell, WWE & 2K should be paying me for this review. Love the video!👍🏽👍🏽
With all the games faults I still would’ve enjoyed and been able to play it if I could have matches that sometimes last more than 10 minutes. But it’s impossible
The one thing I still think is interesting about this game is that it's one of the few wrestling games to have intergender wrestling as a standard feature, unlike the WWE games.
Another big problem is wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, and CM Punk leaving for WWE before the game was released, essentially making the roster outdated upon launch.
The DLC pricing on an individual basis makes no sense. It's a lot more econimical to get the season passes. Like, a lot more. So that's an option if you want to get the characters and don't want to pay full price. The game and DLC have also gone on sale pretty often. I am still mystified that Stadium Stampede mode was something they put so much effort into, but I guess it is what it is. Not sure what is going to happen going forward, but this last season has ended, and I think that's a line being drawn for this one. If they're going to do another major update, or go to a new game, I have no idea. The fact they say Fight Forever is the foundation doesn't mean it's the game that keeps getting patched.
@@truthseeker1867 I mean you can they would just look very similar. I actually have some arenas despite the limited options that I really like. If you have the Adam Copeland dlc that gives you wooden guard rails that can be used in create an arena and I made a make shift Jericho Cruise arena with wooden barricades and the beach theme apron that came with the beach arenas.
Like so much of AEW, intentions behind it were great and the potential was amazing, but the people in charge couldn’t get out of their own way. Which sucks on so many levels, because when you set aside the nattering tribalism from the neuters, this WAS as close as we’ve gotten (or will likely get) to an actual modern AKI game.
crazy to think a year later this game is free when i bought this on launch day the regular edition (didnt have the elite one with FTR & Season Pass) here in canada) full price. At the time i was hyped for it but aftr i unlocked everything, well there was nothing else to do really after doing as much creation which was very limited - ALL my CAWS that i made of my favourite local indy wrestlers looke identical male and female due to the lack of creation. I think they added more stuff to the creation suite but havent bothered to look.
WWE games had this meter for match momentum (Quick, Normal, Epic) where the match length would be determined by what the meter was set to. I'd love to see AEW add this in a sequel. As is, I like the game, but the DLC was a huge turn off for me. Buying the Elite Edition at launch should've given folks access to these features without additional transactions. Reselling the game with everything added is a slap in the face too.
What you said towards the end was exactly what wrestling games are like these days. They are a pick up and play for a while, then forget about it for a period of time. That is not how it used to be. Back when No Mercy, or HCTP were the hot wrestling games, I was addicted to them like crack HAHHA. I could not get enough of them. Wrestling games today, just don't have that effect. I enjoyed AEW Fight Forever, but that enjoyment was short lived. Fight Forever got boring, very fast, and I have not touched it since shortly after release. It was the lack of variety in the game. Yes, the gameplay is solid, and I LOVE that they took from the AKI games. But there is just not enough there to keep me playing. That is what they need to fix, give more me more matches, and options to customize those matches. You can't even have a Tornado Tag match. Even WWF War Zone had tornado tag matches, and that game came out in 1998. This game is a perfect rental, go get gamefly, and rent it for a few days, that is all you need to experience everything here. Or get it on a DEEP sale.
I agree with basically everything you said other than the dlc point. It sucks and for the price I'm not buying it, but it's 2024.. It IS to be expected. UFC 5 releases packs of new/up and coming fighters for free because no one would ever buy those fighters. The only fighters from the free packs that could potentially sell well is MVP, Bas Rutten and Randleman.. and "sell well" feels like a stretch. AEW are putting well established/ big names like Edge, Samoa Joe, Swerve, Acclaimed, FTR, etc as the dlc and people WILL come out of pocket for those names vs fighters like Geoff Neal or Maycee Barber.
“No one would ever buy those fighters” is you making your own line in the sand. They’re the exact same situation, one is free, one is overly expensive.
@@616Entertainment I'm speaking in general. The name value/star power of the dlc is what makes the situations different. It's like complaining about UFC 5 having Bruce Lee and 3 outfits for $10 and saying well AEW FF released a pack of Dante Martin, Lee Moriarty, Rush and Bandido for free. It's like.. sure, but I don't think they had another option.
>pays $80 on launch for season pass version of AEW FF > “Man, I’m so glad I got in on this early! Now I won’t have to pay for the new DLC’s!” >”…Where’s Matt Hardy?” I honestly don’t even I think I’ve picked it up since
I got to try this game on PS+. I do like it, but I feel like there's some stiffness to the animations as if they were changed slightly when being imported from Yukes' older wrestling games as I recognize a lot of the animations from 2K14 and the like. On top of that, those games used blended ragdolls to adjust the animations depending on what their surroundings are, and there's less physics-based tomfoolery in general when it comes to the weapons. Also, what licensed music? It's all wrestler themes and in-house music near as I can tell. There's no Korn or even Ice Nine Kills to be found anywhere in the soundtrack. I'm thinking that AEW tried to get involved in the kitchen when Yukes was trying to make their special sauce and it shows. And in my opinion, these pointless distractions like the mini-games and Stadium Stampede should not have even made it past the consideration stage. That shit just feels like an AEW addition.
@@AztecUnshaven yes the game with more wrestlers the base game of FF with actual championship paths... The game with more arenas than the base game of FF.. The way they nickel and dime each wrestler drop for money is ridiculous. Game needs an overhaul on updated gear and gimmicks but they keep releasing wrestlers for $9.99. 😑
I've yet to do a whole lot more with it as I'm trying to stream it in-between our 2K24 shows, but... yeah... for a game that went through so much I'm legit disappointed in the game. I'm willing to give it a fair playthrough in future streams but it's not "Just like the old days!" game I was promised.

I love your analysis on this. I saw everything the game had to offer in 45 mins of playing this.
I downloaded it tried to make a wrestler realized that was garbage tried a basic match with roster wrestlers and was so bored I uninstalled
Ian your review of this game is the reason why I didn’t get it at launch. I saw only 7 matches and said hell no ! Thank you for easily helping me save 60 bucks lol
I say grab the dlc when it's on sale I understand the needing the charge money and even alot for it since it went over budget and it isn't our fault but if we don't support the game some even on sale they won't see a point to try or continue anymore look at tna after midway no more tna games just re-released I want more of this game or more of a part 2 whatever is happening I enjoy the game I don't play it every day but I don't have friends over like when I was younger
It's not as deep as it should be but it's a good starting point. Hopefully, aew can take this base and build it up to make it better.
10:01 dude you just summed up AEW as a company right there

gameplay question in the situation of a pinfall do you smash the buttoms randomly or do you follow a specific order
Now we just have to see if they can keep it up and get their momentum back.
the moment I compared AEW Fight Forever to Day of Reckoning 2, a game that came out in 2005, immediately killed it for me
I wanted so much for Fight Forever to be what it looks like Ultra Pro Wrestling actually will be.
What do you !San worse games released in the future?
All that dlc should have been free for elite edition owners
I honestly look at it this way. AEW Fight Forever wasn't bad. It was just different. And it is a victim of first game syndrome.
You should relax.
@@616Entertainment i am totally relaxed. I am just looking at things from a different perspective when it comes to games.
@@616Entertainmenti would give the game an honest 6 out of 10. Not perfect and plenty of chances for improvement. But it's not bad.
@@wolfhurricane897 not you, the bozo who was responding to you that I blocked from the comments now, lol
@@616Entertainment oh. Alright then.
Do you think there will be a year 2 of dlc? I’ve heard nothing and some ppl said no more dlcs after jay white
I just bought it on the STEAM summer sale for $15 Cdn. I like the old wrestling games SO I'll soon see if I like this one.
He’ll have his own experience.
Got it on Playstation Plus and it sucksss
Every few months someone mentions the AEW game and it reminds me I’ve had it since launch on Switch and I just don’t bother to play it. Maybe I’ll play for a bit today. Maybe.
For a game named Fight Forever, we didn't exactly Play Forever
Dude you kinda knew what you were getting into though
you all are lucky I cant even get the game where i stay, only digital and it costs me way to much, so just be grateful you guys can play it..
To me, this really reminds me a lot of WCW vs NWO: Revenge. I just downloaded it for free. I haven't actively played games in years, but I think it would feel like a blast from the past. It's the kind of game that I'd enjoy. Play it for a little while, have some fun with it, put it away, and then pick it back up every now and again when I feel nostalgic.
a few things took me away from aew, after watching since day one,
1 Tony khan's comments, shit like "Adam Copeland Is On The Greatest Run Of His Entire Legendary Career In AEW" like wtf lol
its almost like he's saying shit just to say it.
2 story lines, they dont have any and what ever story they have is a continuation story from another company the wrestlers were at, are we suppose to have followed everyone their entire career? what are these 6 year "story lines?"
3 random matches which should have been in a build up. and pay per view, but no
no build, no story, just...heres a match with 2 great guys..... id rather have builds into matches rather than dream matches.
I really enjoyed playing people in ranked games online but when no one was showing up, it was over.
All Elite Wrestling Past Present Future

Whoops! Ignore that.
The World Cup|TV Series|TV Specials Past Present Future
"Room for improvement" key phrase.
it was free on Plus so i downloaded it. Disappointed in it. Not paying for extras
yep I was able to get this for free on PS Plus and I didn't enjoy it
With all the games faults I still would’ve enjoyed and been able to play it if I could have matches that sometimes last more than 10 minutes.
But it’s impossible
The one thing I still think is interesting about this game is that it's one of the few wrestling games to have intergender wrestling as a standard feature, unlike the WWE games.
01 vs 01 02 vs 02 03 vs 03 04 vs 04 Past Present Future
Another big problem is wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, and CM Punk leaving for WWE before the game was released, essentially making the roster outdated upon launch.
I enjoy stadium stampede , wish there were teams though. Wish it had different maps so its not the same setting everytime .
I'm still playing and it's awesome, only need more match types.
I've yet to play this game. Hopefully 1 day I'll try it
The DLC pricing on an individual basis makes no sense.
Def Jam Fight For New York remains Aki’s greatest game.
Fight forever is like the type of game you'll addictively play for a couple of days and then never touch it again.
Universe Mode Past Present Future
They don't need to even add arenas, just add the logos to create an arena so I can make a version of my own.
I still can't believe I spent money on this game. What on Earth was I thinking.
crazy to think a year later this game is free when i bought this on launch day the regular edition (didnt have the elite one with FTR & Season Pass) here in canada) full price.
Tuesday Night Thursday Night Saturday Night Past Present Future

How much did they eventually spend on this? Has a reliable number ever been released/leaked?
@@truthseeker1867 The post he showed in this video stated it may have been 2x over budget. So I'm wondering if there is an accurate number somewhere.
Monday Night Wednesday Night Friday Night Past Present Future
I enjoyed the story mode in WWF No Mercy especially the backstage arenas. Plus the variety of match modes you could have.
@@truthseeker1867 No, but I personally think all of it is too much.
>pays $80 on launch for season pass version of AEW FF
> “Man, I’m so glad I got in on this early! Now I won’t have to pay for the new DLC’s!”
>”…Where’s Matt Hardy?”
I honestly don’t even I think I’ve picked it up since
I got to try this game on PS+.
Wwe Day of Reckoning and WCW vs NWO Revenge are still 1000x better than Fight Forever
Day of Reckoning 2 is the most underrated wrestling game of all time
WCW Revenge is 100 times more limited than Fight Forever. I say this as someone that played thousands of hours of AKI Games.
@@AztecUnshaven yes the game with more wrestlers the base game of FF with actual championship paths... The game with more arenas than the base game of FF.. WCW vs NWO Revenge even had functional directional movement. So whatever "limitations" you're mentioning are either irrelevant or a product of time...
@@DC-YTC man it's was so easy to create realistic versions of Spiderman, Joker, Hulk and even Captain America... Customization was way better than the SVR games where it looks like every piece of clothing on a CAW is painted on
@@grammysworld5449 WCW Revenge had no CAW suite, nowhere near the level of weapons of Fight Forever, no CAW Arena Mode, no where near the amount of belts, a near nonexistant campaign, less moves and less wrestling mechanics than Fight Forever, no referee even visible, etc.
The ending reminded me of play the crap out Aki man hahahaha
AEW Play Never
The way they nickel and dime each wrestler drop for money is ridiculous.

@@truthseeker1867 Yes and I still think both with it being a full release. They’ve added some things but it’s not worth the season pass price IMO
