These graphics still look more realistic than so many recent mvies, incredible...
And this was done in 1997, One of the best CG movie ever done..! The bug Araknid's design was the best,,!
Will never understand why this Saga got screwed up.It was meant to be one of the most successfull sagas ever.
Heh...I love knowing that Paul Verhoeven actually ran at people with a broom to get the terrified reactions. I`ll never watch that movie again without picturing thousands of him breaching the crest of a hill making a "Yeeaaagh!" noise armed with brooms.

This did have excellent special effects for 1997.
i really couldnt believe that this movie was made in 1997 cause the special effects for this movie were just nothing seen before!
I think this was a movie too ahead of itself at the time it was premiered. I'm sure that nowadays we see it (and appreciate it) with very different eyes. Hail P.V.!
I love Starship Troopers. I hope they never do a remake. I like it just the way it is.
My mother took me to see this movie when I was 12, when walking out to the car, my mother said "I think im going to throw up" lol it was my top movie for years.
It's funny how they said that they haven't yet reached the stage of creating believable characters on the computer considering Avatar and how far sophisticated it is.

the thing is that phil tippet, the guy making the awesome effects in this film were the one who directed starship troopers 2, he really dropped the ball on that one
Even tough this is by far the best looking, and most fun of the Starship Toopers adaptation. It is the least fateful of the 5. ( movie trilogy, anime from 1988 which is THE MOST fateful of all, and Roughnecks CGI series.)

Well, Avatar pretty much used the same technique as they used here to create the bugs, only instead of using those input devices, they used real actors dressed in motion capture suits.
It's really quite intersting to think about actually, no matter how advanced technology gets, you still need an actor to really bring the character to life, only now, the actor doesn't have to look like what you envisioned for your character.
Damn, 1:00, the computers and lighting reek of the 1990's! Great movie though, ashame it never got quality sequels and video games to follow.
for real? that sounds awesome! i dont really see why since starship troopers is stillg a great film that looks awesome, they should instead make a new sequel with a budget thats larger than my allowance that i had when i was little

@majeekman back in those days they used in-house software. Now days some post production companies have used heavily modified off the shelf software such as Cinema4D, Lightwave, and Maya.

@AcidBlades That's actually quite applicable to real life, a while ago someone started teasing and punching my friend to the point where he cried - which is an uncommon sight at our school - and when the guy who started it wanted to be friends a few days after, my friend (and myself, quite frankly) hated his guts too much.
shame there was no real sequel to this

@blackdragonheart16 Thats correct , but the movie came first! Starship troopers was the inspiration to StarCraft , lots of details are the same. For example "Capture the Flag " scene when training ! (in the movie). I havn´t read all the comments , somebody has probably told the same thing before me . /Daniel

@lbIeesel Yup Na'vi are only humanoid. Something that's also really hard to create in films and games is hair. In those Japanese games like Final Fantasy it's beautiful but far from real.
yeah it could be cool, hopefully they make the new one a good mix between the book and the movie!

yh number 3 was a bit of a let down looked like they had the stuff from toys r us for probs but i think that the new one is ment to be abit closer to the book and less like a b movie as long as it still has do u want to c more it will all b good
@ucihapokujin its not fucking horrible, its just generally really bad reviewed, pretty much everywhere, even on the description at the back of my VHS, you should watch it, this movie is a classic
they should have gotten a bigger budget and paul verhoeven should have directed the other sequels.
yh the 3rd seemed to get most of its stuff from toys r us or b&q wasnt the best but new one ment to be around the 120mill+ side and abit more like the book and abit more grittyer less b movies style but hopefully it still has would you like to know more because it just wondnt be the same without it

It's a film Starship Troopers :) Brilliant dry satire of fascism, Nazi propaganda films, war/miliarty propaganda in general, hollywood action films and social commentry.
@alejandrotopo How am I supposed to know? I don't even have foxtel, and I only ever watch Two and a Half Men, Big Bang and Top Gear.
I had to watch this film because P.Verhoeven was its director. He made brilliant RoboCop, Totall Recall and Basic Instinct. And yes, Starship Troopers was great. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer & Jake Busey did a great job. Critics gave many negative reviews to this movie but I think ST is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi films of the 90's (along with Strange Days, Alien 3, Them, Lawnmower Man, Virtuosity, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, The Apocalypse, The Arrival, Mimic, Virus, Space Truckers)
