- Over 15 years ago a dear friend of mine embarked on an incredible Ferrari F40 project. Essentially building a road legal F40 LM out of a former USA spec F40 that had been crashed. Right before completion the car was stolen and I felt compelled to help him find it! Enjoy the story of the stolen F40.

“Basically we were gonna have to stage a takedown”
*VIN Wiki music plays*
Lololol
"Man, if people only new the story of this car." - VIN Wiki has entered the chat.
6:32 You had to hire a bannister? Not sure that a handrail is going to help much in this situation 😂
I was wondering if I was the only one who noticed! Never underestimate the power of sturdy hand rails! 👊🏼🦸🏼♂️👍🏼
hahahahaha doh!
Man that is sad that 15K is high mileage for a Carrera GT. Hopefully there's at least one being truly enjoyed outside of a garage somewhere
There’s one at 80k
So what prison does the italian mechanic reside at?
Lawyers who act in a UK High Court are Barristers, not bannisters. But great video.
Gibson is a monkey like a Gibon. Not like a cool guitar, that's a Gibson..
Barrister can be found in the dictionary between Bankrupt and Bastard !!
What happened to the mechanic who sold it the first time?
Funny how the story has changed over the years. What a load of BS. From Fchat when the car was for sale in the UK ;

This is not Linders car. I know the car personally.
The car was originally here in Florida and is owned by a good friend of mine. The car was sent over to Italy and England to be rebuilt to LM/GTE specs at the owners wish. The car was destined to come back to Florida but the owner has a new project that has captured his interest.
If someone is interested I can put you directly in touch with the owner.
Best,
John T"
You mean a used car salesman is fully of shit?
Oh we definitely need a part two, man. Great story!
I am surprised this channel does not have 100k subs by now. Great job!
Help us get there!!
Love the stories!!! You present them so well.
You re the best story teller ever!! Genius
Clearly you don’t know rabbit 😂 Johns pretty great too, real talk
Just wish you could keep the word‘basically’ out of it. You would have so much more credibility.
Thank you for the kind words!!
Curated TV by John Temerian . Super content and you are so articulate, my previous comment was meant to be constructive. Keep up the good work John!
John is a better storyteller than Rabbit. 90% of Rabbit's stories is just BS that he thinks will make him look interesting. John doesn't have to rely on BS, he's 100% sincere which more than matches in substance what Rabbit has in empty charisma.
Thanks for sharing another Epic Story with us John! Take care and as always, my Best to you and your Family! ❤🙏🙏🙏❤
I get so excited when I get the notification of a new video. Great stories! Catch you on the next one.
Love hearing all of your interesting car stories, great channel!
I love listening to your stories!
Hi John, any thoughts on doing a story on the stolen F50 from Algar Ferrari that was recovered & then totaled by the FBI?
05FordGT that car spent time in pittsburgh.....
We had an F40 that was stolen in Italy, 1996....
Wow, this story should be shared through all platforms
Love the videos of the cars and especially the stories behind them, Going to try and get back over to Miami again soon and swing by. Keep it going
Love your stories !!
thought Orlando Bloom was talking about cars, friend, you look like him a lot and great video and story great content on this channel
Unsatisfactory ending 😭😭 justice system around the world is so backwards
Great story thank you for sharing.
Great story man keep them coming lol
This guy has an amazing family history with exotic cars. Search his retro vids to the factorys circa 80s 90s
I love hearing stories like this John!
This should put the algorithm to work. Good one
the channel for the greatest stories
Really good...enjoy it!
Great video
Great story, it would be nice to have some more details on how you actually ended up finding the car in Italy and how you found out the mechanic stole it.
Keep Going!!!
Can you get Jas to talk about the Algar F50.
I’m thinking either HR Owen or Joe Macari.
it was seen at joe macari ones
I saw it there too
pretty sure its joe macari
This is so funny because as soon as i heard him say that i thought it would have to be Joe Macari.
Awesome looking F40...........!
6:32 You hired a bannister? ROFLMFAO. That is one of the funniest things I've heard recently. I didn't even know those could be rented. 😂
Sort of...sort of...”Bannisters” LOL
This is a good looking car. Love the way it looks
I love this channel
This story makes no sense. He says "Right before completion the car was stolen" but it was rebuilt from a bare chassis in the UK. According to this tale the damaged car was stolen in the US, exported to Italy and only then moved to the UK, where it was rebuilt. The repaired car was sold nearly 10 years ago in accordance with a court order which specified the claimant, presumably this guy's friend, owned 45% and a third party 55%. I guess some artistic license makes for a better story. (ps American's don't have different rights in a UK court to anyone else, that's total nonsense, unless he did actually hire a banister)
So all of that and the owner basically got nothing. That’s terrible
I would of stole it back and brought it back to the US.
I don’t think we heard the entire story. I think they had a problem with the salvaged title. That’s why it was just “settled”.
I hope a collector purchases the car and donates it to Curated.
Hey where can I get that song? Seems like a different version of Hell & Back by Tyler James
Nice!
All of his friends are dear friends apparently
I have been super lucky to build some incredible relationships!
This should be on VINwiki
It is
Is that the F40 that was up for sale in Newport Beach, CA?
I'd love to imagine, that that "trusted mechanic" involuntarily disappeared, or at least ended up with a couple broken kneecaps...
F for him
Editing in a few photos of the action here n there woulda been nice but cool story
I thought he was gonna say his friend calls up and says hey my Ferrari is right here!!!
Whats the last 6 of the Vin #?
I imagine that if that F40 was shipped back into the US he could claim it. I believe that any vehicle in a shipping container in a port gets its VIN checked to make sure it’s not stolen.
When I was Jr High School there was F40 on a trailer and that was always covered at an apartment complex. I live in East L.A., I am almost guaranteed that one was stolen too! 🤷🏽♂️
Anyone ever try to get any cars from the sultan of Brunei?? So many f40s 1 off amg cars so many 1 off Ferraris lambos etc and so on. He had a love for 6.0 liter amg engines especially it seemed like
I’ll be reaching out to you hopefully sooner than later for an F40.
You’ve just devalued the car massively 🤣
Good!
It's funny if you think this little story will affect the value of the car.
You fool would you buy this car with a story of theft. Little story you silly bastard.
@@saifhussain8472 little story? If this is a little story, I take it a dead body in the trunk is the only thing considered a "big" enough story, and one that would devalue a car
Love it
I don't get it...you had ownership of this vehicle, and then what happened?????
DK Engineering loves their stolen F40s!
So his friend never got the car back and was just given 160k? Damn I'd be effing livid.
Veil7 7 w
Sorry for your friend. In this situation money is not problem. The real problem was losing the car with this way and they gave you nothing against it. Also I wanna know what's this mechanic doing right now?
yay
Gone in 60 min’s!
Do u think u can get the Brunei Supercars??
Not a chance.
What a dbag. I wish I was a multimillionaire. I would track it down, buy it, then donate it to the rightful owner. Such a sad story ending that he lost it. Doesnt seem right since it was illegally stolen. Hopefully the mechanic faced punishment tho
Could we get a story of what ever happened to the zonda roadster
If you can't beat 'em, ruin 'em! Nice!
In UK law if you buy something in good faith its yours, any other issue is a civil matter with the seller, you wouldn't normally surrender the car unless its identity had been tampered with in which case it gets crushed.
That's completely false. In the UK certainly, and I suspect most places, stolen property remains the property of the owner. It doesn't matter if it is sold on or not, or whether it's bought in good faith or not, it belongs to the original owner. Google it. This is obviously not the whole or accurate story.
“Found.”
but but....where is it now???
8:11 "VIN number"... a bit redudentent wouldn't you say. Maybe say "VIN tag" if you are adding the word "Number" for the listeners sake. Love the show. 👍
Why not mention names? Bad business practices should never be hidden. Freedom of speech. Are you worried about an international defamation lawsuit? For something they clearly were in the wrong?
So...WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MECHANIC WHO STOLE THE CAR AND EXPORTED IT???? C'mon, John, don't leave us hanging!!!
Nothing
That's what I want to know dang it. They should have sued and got at least some jail time that's major crime.
He got a $100 gift card for Starbucks
Hopefully, you can somehow get the car back to your friend. Who knows what impact telling the story on your channel will have.
Car has changed hands a few times since. Unless he can buy it for his friend.... not a chance.
How to get a Ferrari f40 for half price 101
Yeaaahhh he definitely didn't drive that Carrera GT like you would a minivan. Had me thinking that car had over 100k miles. I doubt there's any soccer mom vans with only 15k
Imagine stealing an f40 and getting away with it.
So I think I just watched a video where some kid captured this car and Greenwich Connecticut had a New York license plate
Barristers bro
Hey!
I would have paid someone to firebomb that dealer
I feel sorry for UK's car enthusiasts. Loosing $150k on a car, 40% profit margin tax, bad roads, insurance costs, ect.
Thank God. It’s mine. Here is my address. 🤣
So wait... It's been resold to the US ? If so wouldn't it be retrievable under established precedent & US laws of stolen property ?
Is this the guy from CollegeHumor?
If it was my car being stolen and shipped out of the country I would went to the UK and took the car by force and had it back on United States soil before anyone could of done anything. I am a retired Air Force aviator and I have a few high school buddies who are retired navy seals and ex blackwater employees. That would of been a fun 3 day project that my buddies would of jumped at to do just for the thrill and to remember the good old days. I would of used a rented herc or a L-100 to transport the vehicle and assault team. That would actually be an extremely fun extraction to plan. For the hassle I would took an extra car or two from that UK dealer to cover the cost of the mission. Maybe I need start a car recovery merc service because these are not isolated incidents. The hardest part of a mission like that would be the fabrication of the cover to have a valid reason for the aircraft to enter UK airspace and land. It wouldn't be too hard to figure out a cover story.
Why hire a " BANNISTER "( Handrail for stairs ) I don't think that would help you very much in court... I think he might be better off hiring a " BARRISTER " Lol :) Great story though.....
Is this about the dude that totaled the gamballa and couple other great cars?
Was any action taken against the mechanic?
justin timberlake into cars and cookies now
Subtitles in Spanish please we would like to hear your stories about cars
Wish you could give my Eulogy.
Scotland Yard 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
er....yes..Scotland Yard is the head of the Metropolitan Police in London
Bannister? Hee, hee...
Bannister?
Funny that I come across this video cuz I just watched another kids video pursue about 2 years ago where he said he's in Greenwich Connecticut and he films this exact car firing up and has a New York license plate cross reference that kid just search at 40 search Grange Connecticut something like that.but you say pops up , just funny just saying
That's crazy, even with proof. The dealer wouldn't give it back..
That's how it works in the US too. The dealer bought it on "good faith" so they are in rightful possession of the car. They know it's stolen but they've also just paid a bunch of money for the car so they don't want to take the loss either. In this situation the seller is usually out of luck as they would have to prosecute the person who stole the car, not the buyer and the thief is usually unable to pay for it.
Story Time.
