The Ferrari legal team are licking their lips rn
That was my thoughts. Much as I love a Ferrari replica - THEY DON'T ... at all. They have a long history of killing replica builders (particularly those that get lots of publicity).
@@jezmadden7002 Are you sure it’s true they killed Ferrari replica builders?
As long as nothing has the Logo or Branding visible on it it wont be illegal copy .
If the Horse is visible they can and they will try to sue you or prohibits showing it in videos or carshows
@@saschakorner9317 I think GTO engineering has the Ferrari logo on their cars they might have reached an agreement with Ferrari, I don’t know.
@@saschakorner9317 The body kit says F40 on it. If it's F40 body kit, they will not like it
that vid of the lm being driven in the 80's is so so 80's - xmas jumper, slip on shoes... just need a couple of brandy's before you get in the car and a JPS to smoke whilst driving
Sounds like my kind of project. Go for it!
There he is!! Mr Jeff, you aren't afraid to build anything.
Why aren't you verified?
I have the Jeff seal of approval ...the project gets a green light. Cheers Buddy !!!
@@Ratarossa yes I do
@@Ratarossa what will you run for the engine? Are you going turbo?
I honestly want to see maybe a twin turbo 360 engine. Just to keep the Forced induction nature of the F40
This is what’s happening👍🏼😏
You’re really confident doing DIY stuff, can you make a video about how you got started working on cars?
Hey Scott, how's the 512 coming along? An F 40 and a 512 at the same time seems like a long row to hoe. I'm sure you'll finish both but its going to take a lot of time. Looking forward to watching.
Agreed! I'd rather see the 512 completed than some bodged up kit cat F-40 project.
@@TheMentalblockrock kit with real part = real car ~
@@penonton4260 If all the parts aren't original it isn't a real car!
@@TheMentalblockrockfortunately nobody gives a fk what you think.
@@lordlusos8870why don't you build a genuine F40 on your channel? Oops, I forgot, you don't have a channel, or the money to build one.
I absolutely agree if you can't afford your dream car but it a possibility to build one for a fraction of the price why not, many kit cars are out there already and most people can't tell the difference.
What an incredible future build for this channel. And you have what it takes to get this past the finish line, Scott! Cheers!
That noise from the F40 engine is human-like, that's the appeal and connection, it's like a living being.
Like a kid at Christmas when I see a new ratarossa vid 🤣
Get ready for some MUST WATCH Videos. Can’t wait. F40 build with people that know what they are doing. You are a Luck man.
I would never be able to do this there’s so many questions one being, Is it a real Ferrari? I mean subframe and parts and molds from original pieces but at the end of the day, is this worth 100k+ ?
I'm curious to see where Scott puts all of the cars and parts for the multiple projects. Maybe some Ferraris will be sold? Scott rents a storage facility?
This Is Going To Be A Really Fun Series Scott!!
I'm Excited For You!!
Amazing idea/ project. Only thing may be the fiberglass panels. If you found someone that could make the panels of that molds but in kevlar or carbon fiber would take this f40 tribute to the next level of legitimacy
Fantastic project. If anyone can pull this off it is you !!! I will love watching the series.
Definitely agree on the usability of it instead of a genuine one, some nice up to date turbo's and engine management and hopefully sound like the LM in the video 👌
When your build series begins, please please share the dimensions off the uprights🙏🏽🙏🏽
The technical manual has good information on the chassis, but less so on the suspension.
Go for it Scott! This would be an epic project for sure. I’m not sure you could do it for 100,000 BPS though. You’ll probably be closer to 150,000 BPS, but it’ll be the car you’re dreaming about and completely worth it. I’ll keep my eyes out for parts
Always enjoy your videos!
This F40 Tribute Project would be awesome to see happen.
Looking forward to seeing this happen Scott 👍🙂
Sounds like a great project! Having built (and rebuilding) a Ferrari/Porshe inspired electric sports car from a similar starting point I know the amount of work you are in for though. You got to love a crazy guy! Keep us posted.
Go for it bro you'll never get another chance and you can use the ratas engine and box till you find an engine. wow, imagine that sat next to the boxer. It's a must most of the hard works has been done for you too.
I guess it’s a bit better than turning an old Toyota MR2 into a F40 🤣🙈
Hey the MR2 has a good chassis but revenue that requires custom quality work
Honestly I want to do a project exactly like this in the far future
Narrowly better I suppose, but not much. It will resemble an F40 but that’s where the story ends.
Codename 'Faux40'
What’s wrong with taking a existing chassis and putting a kit car on it, legally it’s legit… but I see your point of view
Go for it, will certainly make amazing content.
Sounds brilliant Scott, I love this kind of thing. A GT40 is the next thing up my sleeve.
I’m sure you’ll get plenty of hate from the stuffy purists, but I’m behind you 100% can’t wait to see it start coming together
It's weird that replica GT40s and ac cobras are accepted but others aren't. Like the f40s are a steel tube chassis just like those replicas.
That video always give me goosebumps. Amazing build
Would absolutely love to see this happen. Can’t imagine the pride of opening my garage and seeing the 512 and F40 as stable mates! Even if the F40 is a replica. Really hope to see this build come to the channel!! 🤞🤞
Hi Scott another great video,
I would love to see a F40 with a luxurious interior, one with all the toys, like electric windows, carpets, headlining and all electrics, ie windows, mirrors, air con, but keep the running gear as raw as it should be. I know that doing that is contrary to what the F40 is but it would be a great all rounder and even with the extra weight I’m sure with a modern tuned /built engine that weight would be norhing
Lol don’t forget about the BBi
You should go for it, building one from stratch will be very satisfying and the result will be a car that can be driven hard. I've seen a local F40 build and it's great to see it come together, some parts aren't that complex to make with today's technology, like cnc routers, pipe benders erc
Wow this would be an amazing built to watch. Good luck and look forward to the progress 👍
I'm looking forward to more of the 512
its coming
Can't wait Scott 👍👍
What a legend. Good luck Scott!! 👏🏼🙌🏼😎
RAT-F40!! This is a great idea and the best part is being able to enjoy it fully when it's done.
This sounds so epic! Hope you can finish it as close to original as possible. The engine sound is so good!
love the channel. You are really pulling the Ferrari brand down to another level :)) I agree that the F40 is the coolest at the moment
Just stumbled on this video. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with building this awesome project.
Go for it Scott! I know you can do it!
This is going to be amazing 🤩
Great video Scott. Good luck with the build. ✌🏻
Soo looking forward to this build. Good luck!!!!
Oh this is going to be nuts! I love it, great vid dude💪🏻
I am exited to see this rolling!
Amazing project
This will genuinely be the greatest build in the history of TH-cam! And if you manage to do it for just £100k, then you could open the most successful restomod business in the world.
Yes 100k is a very tough one, obviously my labour is free so its about finding the parts and everything at the right price
Frankensteins will be the future!
And that original F40 footage!
If you pull that off, this channel is going to the moon!!
Definitely an interesting proposition. Personally I'm more for the 512 project- it's the real deal whereas the 'F40' will always be a Ratarossa type but hey, it should be good to watch which is what these channels are all about!
Sounds like an amazing project I wish you luck!
After hearing that F40 lm exhaust note I think you got me an interest I didn’t know I had
I'm so happy to see your channel it's growing....
F40 replica was available in New Zealand, Lexus V8 powerd. Ask the sultan of Brunei, has 7 of only RH built F40s in varying colours such as black, white, yellow, blue, etc with black leather interior.
Was called a F40 silhouette, many went to Japan!
I had no idea about how much parts overlap there were with other models. Could you make the 360 sound as good as an original F40 engine? That sound was INSANE! Great video. Exciting project concept
Yo be fait the CS exhaust is simply epic, my Ratarossa also sounds great. They all have a unique and amazing slightly individual sound. But the F40 LM build ..... well that has to sound like the clip
Such a fun project! You must do it!
Awesome scott-hope it comes to fruition!
Hey - you already know the right guy - Samcrac does it all on a budget and he has lots of Ferrari experience - lol
The F40 Mutrrari mix all the good parts in and build a beast of a driver!
Let’s go! New to the channel sticking around to see what yappens
Someone that lives not far from me, rebuilt a real burnt F40 into a street legal LM replica. It was glorious! It’s since been sold, and I’ve always wondered where it ended up
wow I would love to know the details on that ....how cool !!!
I did the same thing with the Porsche 997 GT2RS. I built an exact replica based on a 997 Turbo. I sourced genuine parts mainly from Porsche and also from some other Porsche suppliers, including the carbon front wings (costing over £6,000 each at the time). I did a centrelock conversion and the full interior including carbon seats, new roof, the list is endless. The car has engine modifications also. The project took me almost 5 years. I can now enjoy the car without the worry of it being an origonal car. I can honestly say it's completely worth it. Yes you will get the peanut gallery saying its not original but you will get 90% of the experience and 100% the same enjoyment of an original car
love it mate that sounds awesome
Is this the black car and you documented the build on 911Uk? If so it was impressive what you did. 👍🏻
@@a1topdog That’s it yes.
Massive center tube in the passenger compartment as well as monstrous perimeter framing.Looks right.
I would LOVE to see this build!!!
I'm excited about this build.
This will be awesome. Might be time to get some footage of that one in NZ
Looking forward to it. Sounds amazing!
The best part is with it not technically being original you can put so much aftermarket and modify it with out feeling bad to be an even more amazing ICON race car good luck! It'll be awesome!!
That will be an epic project!
A friend from Monaco is turning his F40 into an F40LM! Already made the mechanical part, it is already with more than 900hp on the wheels! The project is getting amazing!
wow that sounds awesome
@@Ratarossa Yes indeed, he believes the car should be ready towards the end of this year or the beginning of next year! But just by testing the mechanical part before they started modifying the car's body part, it was already very impressive!
Amazing! Can´t wait for the next video(s)! :-)
Hey Scott Just bumped into this video, Anyone doubting just how much fun this would be is a fool...If anyone has seen the Jonny Smith video of the 'fake' 250GTO then my point is made. I think you could do it quite efficiently you know enough about the parts to do it well. there are plenty of scabby 328's around that would be perfect donors, and a 360 engine would easily fit the bill for the power train. As long as it stays light and true to the Idea, then you could probably get a few panels done in carbon within budget. If you need someone that is a superb all rounder with fabricating from metal to cloth I have a friend thats a whizz. Just shout. Good Luck
I'm a month late... but, I'm doing essentially this with a 308. Speaking from experience, there's no chance it'll be sub $100k. Unfortunately, that bodywork alone costs a serious portion of that. The parts budget, if all the work was done yourself, would still likely be double the $100k budget.... Maybe more, depending on how true to Ferrari you want it to be, and how much you want to improve it. With that said, it's a SICK project. I considered the same recently... but am terrified by the price barrier. Maybe someday, though.
Yes agreed the price barrier is a big one. Original F40 parts are crazy prices and I would like to keep it factory as possible.
Loving the project btw it’s going to be one epic car when you have finished
F40 is the only one it gets me excited
WHAT A PROJECT THAT WOULD BE :)
Finally
A non sue able ferrari.
The fact the frame is genuine and the body is taken from molds make it so much cooler.
This is going to be epic 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
cheers
There is a guy in nz who had done a f40 in your same idea, but he had a twin turbo 1uz(approx 750hp)in it, there are a couple of videos of it on youtube.
This would pretty much be my dream car too. Even if I could afford to buy an original F40 (and if I could, I would), I'd still love to build something that looked like an original, but used modern components. I know this isn't a realistic (cost) direction for your build, but can you imagine a visually perfect F40 replica with the underpinnings of the F8 Tributo...
I can understand the cries of heresy with this whole replica idea; but aren't quite a few of the 250 GTOs that get raced actually replicas? Granted I understand they're replicas where the owner has possession of an original example.
totally !!
Forget ferraris, most expensive classics that are raced are actually replicas.
The key to making a replica, I think, is to do it well and generally in the spirit of the original. Replicas have a bad reputation because some are truly terrible, but generally anything with a custom chassis and an engine with similar power is pretty going to be pretty decent (the cost of those meaning its worth making the car look good, even if its not 100% accurate). Ratarossa knows enough about ferraris, and has enough access to ferrari parts, that any build he does will do it justice. I think replicas of super valuable cars are a good thing, as the originals being worth so much means people wont drive them through fear of damage or mileage affecting value. You just have to do what you find fun.
This is exactly the way I'd love to one day build a Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary replica, again like you, even if I could afford the real deal I'd still have a daily driver replica. It would have all modern-day components, Audi 5.2 V10, Graziano transaxle, modern brakes with ABS etc, and most importantly be able to drive it comfortably without having to be only 5'8" tall. Oh, as well as a modern aircon system. Will it ever happen? Not on disability it won't. But damn we can dream huh.
@Col Bremner it really is the way. Another great project would be a proper Jaguar XJ200 with a V12. As it should've been.
I’m sure this will come off🤞🏻 and it’s going to be amazing
Looking forward to this!!! 👀🤩
Ah fuuuuuuuck! This is the exact project I have wanted to do for such a long time and I thought doing a TH-cam build was the only way to do it so this will be a bitter/sweet build to follow. Best of luck!
Just to ad, I wouldn't put any badges on the outside and I'd leave blank the F40 logo on the drivers side/right side spoiler just to keep Ferrari from sending out a cease and desist and also, I think leaving the badges off a close to carbon copy would be a little bit cooler. That's just me though :)
Hell yeah, I think the f40 is every car enthusiasts dream, excited for this 👌

Another Super Project!!
Mate well on board with this idea👍
I like this idea Scott.
Think you'll definitely need to finish the BB and the Spyder projects as this f40 will be a monster project.( in time)
100k will be very tight.
Unless you use a whole donor car for parts and just replicate the "show parts" like, exterior & Body, wheels, brakes, interior.
The engine would definitely have to be turbocharged.
You're going to need a genuine f40 for reference & datum points,
General dimensions.
As long as the body is 100% accurate as in the project you showed, and the interior is as close as original as possible the mechanicals are not so critical (mostly undercover) other than being turbocharged.
I'll do my bit and subscribe.
thanks buddy
Wow good luck . I see the one at the Warren wasn't until I got up close I realised it was a replica.
Cant wait for this one
Brilliant idea!
Also there's a guy I watch on fb , Joe's fab . He made a vw beetle van and put it on a e30 chassis and build a old caderlac and put a new mustang . Does alot of stuff . Doing a old school ice-cream van at the min
I think you can do it Scott - free labour and haggling and you got this buddy 👍🚗
That a hot idea to build one to your spec, and get it really usable..and build it the way you wanna finish it up that's hot.
Good one Scott. I know you can do it :D
We need to see more updates on this!
Do it 🤣 as an engineer I love your can do attitude, no build seems too big 👍🏻👍🏻
16:10 This is exactly why my garage is full of 'tribute' cars (ok, and the purchase prices that I can't afford, of course :-p). The latest is a Porsche 997 GT2 RS 'tribute' based on a turbo. The originals a selling at prices somewhere at 1/2 an F40, but still way too much to thrash on a track day
Hi Scott, this will be a superb build ! cant wait to see it regards Mike From MEC-TEC
