Exactly...I now live in stupid Canada and if I defend myself even in my home, I will be charged...but WTH..I do not care, if I have to, I sure will. I always walk with my car keys at the ready. I like the idea of the flashlight...I am going to practise that motion...I am female. and not as strong as I think.
I’m a severely disabled Veteran in my late 70s, so I’m not physically able to do “fisticuffs” like I once could. Two things that I carry in my car and in my walker when I’m out of my car is, 1. A small signal horn that is so loud that it could make an attackers ears bleed and get the attention of others more than a quarter of a mile away. 2. A can of hornet and wasp spray that shoots a stream of bee spray at least 25 feet! While I’m no longer in great physical condition, my trigger finger is as strong as ever 😂.
A family member suggested that I keep a couple cans handy right by my front and back door. It's cheap and as you mentioned you can squirt that spray a long distance. Others mentioned pepper spray which is more convenient to carry on the go-but if you go that route, get the gel so you don't get any blowback in YOUR eyes when spraying it. Good Luck and God Bless!
The best weapon the elderly have is the walking stick. I keep relatively fit . I can't bench press 100kg . But i can do 50 pushups . I spend 20 minutes morning and night swinging my sticks . And that gives me much better reach than a knife . And yes i do need the stick . All things in life are about perspective . How do you want to live .

Anyone can carry a crook top cane. They're considered aids to ambulation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (carried anywhere) and thereby under HIPPA, nobody can ask you why you have a cane, it is protected medical information. Thats federal stuff I will say regards somebody that needs a cane medically, they need a better option socially. Regards pens, I give yous the ubiquitous Sharpie. It is just a marker. They come in highlighters, to make annotations in a heavy book with annotations in it.
I train every day with my walking stick to. I do not need it and I walk 5 miles, 7,5 km every day. My excuse is that the legs have enough training but my arms do not, so I do exercise with my walking stick.
@@samtgodfrey I advise you to have a metal fitness pony. Do not go up and down like most people, but keep muscle tension for 1 minute, rest for 30 secondes and keep again muscle tension for 1 minute. Yes regaining fitness takes time. I spend one year to regaining it. Insportsline sold me the pony under the name "full body trainer insportsline AB rider" No personal connection with the company, no personal gain.
It's part of MCMAP, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, they teach you that everything is a weapon.....just look around You. that broken stick, that rock, hell even a credit card sharpened on one end can cut an artery......You have to use your mind and eyes....
I am a bicycle courier in a major US city. I have many coworkers would have had to use their U-lock in self defense and I used to carry the same. I now carry a bicycle chain lock unlocked around my neck. I have had to use it for defense but most just see it and don't want to test it. Stop the fight before it starts
In the UK one thing you MUST remember is NEVER EVER say that you are carrying an object to defend yourself because that could be enough for item to be considered an “offensive weapon”.

Yep, my work requires me to have safety LOTO (lock out tag out) locks. I also keep a tied/looped heavy duty bootlace in my backpack. When I have to travel by plane then I run the bootlace around the shackle and it’s a formidable weapon in my pocket.
Members of Hell's Angels routinely carry ball-peen hammers on their side. It's a great weapon if you're in a place that doesn't allow weapons. To tell you the truth it's a great weapon.period.
here is one weapon you can carry anywhere and you can find them everywhere a simple rock in a sock works quite well. It won't be picked up by metal detectors and if it has some engraving on it such as a memoriam for a loved one when it ie examined it will be viewed as a keepsake.
Can, from experience, say that a car key or a paddock/deadbolt key can make the difference between being kidnapped or not. Aim for the face and if you can use the interior of your car to limit the attacker's rang of movement.

Advice is great, but waiting for darkness isn't! You have to think positive, don't judge, and offer to help as you can. Compassion is the only way forward and upward! Even a smile or "Good day" to a stranger, can make a big difference to their mood. You will feel it too! Maybe the simplest, easiest, weapon we all carry but seldom use. ✌

Old white haired woman here, maybe with an adventurous past. Diaabled now but grandkids live in far flung states. I can still drive and dont like to fly but occasionally the bossy kids buy me a flight. Last time security wouldnt even let me have my flashlight, yes it is "tactical" but i gave it a shot. What they did allow me to carry on that surprised me was my small crochet project, metal crochet hook, scissors for thread cutting, tacticul pen to mark my pattern. Now, I was crocheting a new blanket for great grandbaby the whole trip. But while in a state 1000 miles from home I had some backup for my aging body. Biggest weapon is the mind, thinking ahead. Never looking for trouble but knowing how to use what you do have.

I second Steel Toes in a heart beat. I'm sixty six and I still wear my steel toes every single day. They sit right by my bed and if someone is around my property, I want Steel toes and not sneakers! They ARE a wonderful weapon on my feet and I know how to use them! I also carry a good size folding knife and that goes with me everywhere as well. I have a solid steel walking/defense stick by my door if someone's nearly in the door, I'' grab that and go for the face

Here are a list of items: steel toe boots, chop sticks, 2 pencils held together with range bands aka rubber bands, a bicycle chain with part taped to hold as a handle, squirt gun filled with bleach, fishing weights in a bandana, or have them attached to back of a hat., take a pen but take out the ink part put in small screw driver blade or small nail, string some nuts on a string and tape together to make a sap, or you can sew sand in a bandana, a roll of quaters, dimes etc and taped up, a razor blade sew it into brim of hat cover with cloth. a piece of rx cable, a old school was a antena off of a car. they cut like a razor. pardon my spelling i have learning disability from 106 temp. , a scratch awl, ice pick salute from a old vet

I used to work with leather and the awl I had had a ball shaped handle that fit perfectly in my palm. The awl part would fit perfectly between my fingers when I held the handle in my palm. It was not noticeable to carry in my hand when I had to walk at night in the city.

Agree. 9 times out of 10, if you are in a situation that turns into a real fight, you screwed up somewhere. The thing is, yeah you need to defend yourself, but even if you succeed in doing so, the result might still not be pretty (scars, legal, monetary, etc.). A fight pretty much means you lose the war even if you win the battle.
Here's a note concerning a flashlight used as a weapon. You may be tempted to drive the flat end of the flashlight (where the light bulb is located) into your attacker's head. It's more useful to strike with the edge of the flat end (the part that's screwed into place.) That way, you're concentrating the power of your strike into a smaller area. That will do more damage. That applies to anything you may use as a striking implement. For example, as a weapon, a walking stick is more useful as a jabbing instrument than as a bat.

When I used to have to fly for work, I always carried a hard bound book. The corners of the book can be used to strike the eyes, throat, temples. An upward thrust on the side edge to the underside of a nose can break it. The flat surface can be used to parry a knife. An oldy, several rolls of pennies in a strong sock with a knot. Three to four inches between the coins and your fist is just right to apply a large force to vulnerable areas. Just about anything can be a weapon.

Your belt with buckle. I've used this in my teen years as a defense tool. You can swing to keep distance and when it hits, they'll know. Love your channel, thank-you for what you do.
About your belt has a defensive weapon instead of your snaps,? You can use small screws washer on both sides, small nut on the back. This will keep your buckle in place and it won’t come off.. I used this once, against two guys bigger than me. Worked well.
A friend who lived on a sailboat had a belt buckle with snap locks with a 2inch blade. It is a common item in the sailing community to be used to cut lines in an emergency.
Surprise, speed, and violence of action are my favorites. If you do have a pen, key, carabiner (a real one, not the stuff for $2 at the checkout), flashlight, belt wrapped around a fist. But pulling these out for all to see can sometimes raise the ante and then the opponent pulls a knife or gun. Better yet, don't visit places where such violence might be necessary, such as around others who are strangers who are drinking..... If you do have a regular spot, enduring the staff to you through ample tipping, being polite and courteous, all this might help you when the staff are being interviewed by cops (its also just nice to do in general without ulterior motive). IMO, it's just too dangerous to fight others these days.....

Nice video, we live in a reasonably peaseful area of the UK, the wife goes walking day and night, and about 5 years ago I brought her a UK legal knife, 3" blade, none locking folding, only as a last resort, she laughed and showed me her keys and there are 4, she said if i feel uneasy each key fits between each finger, she then grabbed the tourch (same design as yours, that I got her) and her pen, she carry`s the exact setup that you have shown, so I kept the knife ;)

It is interesting that in an increasingly violent world where criminals don't care whether they are breaking the law or not, and are increasingly well armed, the honest tax-paying citizen has to keep imagining "magic" ways to protect themselves and at the same time not breaking the same laws that DO NOT protect you!🤔
Not to be picky and argumentative, but I don't think criminals ever care if they are breaking the law. If they cared, they wouldn't intentionally break the law. But yes, it seems as though criminals are becoming considerably more violent, probably encouraged by the notion that the application of the law is more lenient for certain types of crimes and criminals.

Being just north of the 70 line, three years ago I decided it was time to start carrying a firearm and a flashlite. My wife has her CCW (although we don't, now, need it to carry in IN). Two hip replacements and being diagnosed with COPD, even though I never smoked, made me feel like I had a bix 'X' on my back.
Living in the U.S., I have been accustomed to protecting myself with firearms. Just recently, I traveled to Europe and one of the places I went was Paris. I have never felt so vulnerable without my firearm and/or knife. Firearm not allowed and to go into any of the sites… you and bag would be searched…so no knife. Keys I had as you suggested. In addition, I bought an umbrella to be used as striking and/or distraction. But the best protection I had was my mind and situational awareness. If you pay attention to your surroundings, you are able to spot the threats and they know you are aware so they leave you alone. Yea Paris is a CRAP hole and alot of shady characters. Lol the wine...Didnt care for the wine or chesse either. Even entering France at the border, immediately noticed the difference in trash and graffiti everywhere. Maybe other parts of France is better, but just the drive to the airport then downtown Paris is depressing and definitely stressful moving between tourist spots.
We were in Paris in 1984 it was absolutely wonderful we took a midnight stole along the river. Paris being reduced to a crap hole is completely a result of the floods of people moving in from other countries without the same respect for social security, without the Christian belief to respect your fellow man. Thank you for the video, Mr Daniel. In England, it is up to the police and courts to decide what a weapon is and they are very strict. However, may I add to your list a handful of dirt or gravel. If you put a small plastic bag in your pocket filled with some gravel, it can be easily reached and allows about three "shots" to the face of an opponent. This buys time to decide whether to run or fight. I've found it effective against aggressive dogs too. Regards from England.
At 66, I have enough disabilities to keep from much maneuvering, but not dead in the water, anyway! I've got some tricks with my cane, but I need something better than these cheesy "bend-over-your-knee" medical standbys. I must fashion a mighty oaken staff, as sturdy as to set Little John on his knee! That one will take some work... My most efficient defense weapon is simpler and costs less than $2. I used to drive taxi in the suburbs of NYC a century ago, for a while on night shift. A limo driver parked next to me in a fast-food parking lot, so we chatted. He showed me his weapon of choice, and it's a brilliant idea. At the supermarket, pick up a few of those little plastic lemon-shaped dispensers full of lemon juice. The kind that you squeeze, and lemon juice squirts out in a strong easy to aim, direct, long range squirt. Anyone who is puzzled at this, has obviously never gotten lemon juice in their eye! And don't try it "just to see what happens"! It's not actually harmful, but it will stop any human on the spot. Maybe Grizzlies too. Pepper spray, tear gas, DDT, Roundup, Agent Orange, got nothing on just the juice. The plastic dispensers are reusable too, I remember using them for squirt guns back in grade school. Spraying someone in the face with lemony fresh citric acid isn't a felony, or expensive, or involving a "procedure" to do. It's an all natural criminal disposal system. Be alert for drinking fountains or sources of water, it's quick and easy to wash away. Also, if the bad guy/gal is wearing shades, remember to aim up from under. The tiniest amount of lemon will be enough to completely distract anyone long enough to get your mighty oaken staff and finish them off. Practice at home with water to get your aim set, and you can poke at the hole carefully with a pin or thumbtack to get a stream with more volume. Kids with love them with water for playing! Caution: If you refill them with something other than water, LABEL THEM!! Also, do not refill these with battery acid (sulfuric acid) because the plastic will melt, and you'll have a hell of a mess on the kitchen table...
I don't know if this is true but a friend of mine told me plain old hair spray was good, and if you have to get rougher, use your lighter while holding the spray on and you got a little blow torch.
@@pamelashiflett5281 You are right. Not just hair spray (but it's one of the best for that) but almost any non-food aerosol spray works! Not pump spray, like window cleaner, but the cans with strong smelling stuff. Bug spray might cause serious damage, but it sounds appropriate! Spray paint, particularly bright or neon colors to make it easier for police to find these creeps! Air freshener. Ha! There must be lots more! Using a lighter gets instant results, but is pretty extreme! I've done that to clear out wasp nests, and it works great, though I still feel bad at the carnage, even thought they are just bugs! It burns the wings off right away. Serious fires can happen that way, too. Some cans will drip, on your hand even. You drop it to put the flame out on your thumb, then there's fire everywhere. The worst might be spraying at someone with long hair. That's a bonfire only meant for the movies!
I carry a solid hard wood cane. Everywhere. If I'm out of my car, I have my cane. Completely legal. Can walk through a TSA Security Checkpoint with one because there is no metal. Mine happens to be rosewood, single piece. You can find things like this online (particularly martial art sites). The key part is the "recurve" end. The big wide ends are no good. The middle of the recurve is rounded but then returns to the main body with only three inches between the end of the recurve and the main body of the cane. Think foot pounds per square inch. I'm 68. I also keep a simple BIC pen ... when grabbed by the arm, and I retailiate ... let me tell you puncture wounds hurt. And I can put a dozen in your arm starting from the wrist up to the bicep before you can say "Oh Sh*t".
I'm an old man who doesn't need a cane (yet) but use one--1" diameter hickory--when I'm walking around a street faire or park. My late father-in-law was a machinist who kept a big screwdriver under the seat of his car. The tip was NOT sharpened---but the edges were perfectly square.
Same as me. I got an Irish Shillelagh walking stick, cane, from McCaffrey crafts, Ireland. It has saved my dog's life several times while attacked by street dogs.
Situational awareness is your best defence, listen to your gut and avoid dangerous situations. Make sure you’re prepared, car serviced and full of fuel. The proper clothing and footwear etc. Great content.
As I use a bicycle to go to work in the city centre, I have a bike lock that can be used as a mace and do lots of damage if needed. Well it is not considered a weapon and is an essential item to carry with me. I also have keys with me and I usually wear anti-cut combat gloves to ride my bike (they prove to be much better for intense usage than proper bicycle gloves . I have a ruike knife with a very vicious blade on me but I would only reluctantly use it as a weapon as it could bring me into trouble with the police. This is what I carry with me in an urban environment. It's another story when I go camping and trekking.
Develop the mindset of everything is a weapon and you will look at everything differently. From a rolled up magazine to a baseball cap to a pencil anything and everything is a weapon or force multiplier.

I used to carry a metal pen, but I stopped because in a court of law, shit can go the wrong way, because "i" carried it as a weapon, so if you carry a pen make sure it's a "Bic", but i question the government laws, that make it illegal to defend yourself and i trained as a martial artist, but in today's world that is a negative not a positive...were the hell are we going...
The flashlight is considered by many to be the best non-lethal weapon, and best weapon behind a gun. And it can be taken anywhere without any legal issues. Try flashing a strong, 300+ lumen flashlight in your eyes and you will be temporarily blinded for a few minutes in any lower light situation. Especially the newer LED ones that can even fit in your pocket and are up to 3000 lumens. That’s plenty of time to temporarily blind someone, get in a good blow and/or escape.
Pocket sand , small coconut in a bag or a nice looking rock in a bag say your a rock collector and came across it a thick plastic or aluminium blade hiden in the bottom of your shoe, carbon toe shoes

Due to a law enforcement career in Canada, I know that any object can be defined as a weapon, depending upon the use made of it. My legs and balance are compromised due to MS, but I could be a ferocious old lady with common pointy metal objects ready in my pockets, and a necessary cane. I know ground fighting, and carry not a purse, but have all such contents in a sturdy sling bag across my chest. Thanks!
Well if it's during the day, you could walk around legally with a baseball bat, glove, and ball. At night you can legally have a baseball bat, glove, and ball in your car.
Walking cane. If I have an item on me that can be used for striking, such as an ink pen, I put on a glove for protection and hit an old car tire screwed on the wall in my home gym. See how it performs. If it breaks, the leather glove helps protect the hand. A pair of safety glasses too. If it passes the test... it's good to go. Also use the tire to practice other bladed weapons on.
New subscriber, I love this content. My dad was my first self-defense instructor back when I was 12 or 13 years old. He was fond of saying. "Boys I don't want my sons to start fights, but if you get into a fight that you cannot avoid. I want you to finish it. Remember that the fair fight is the one you win!" He taught us mostly improvised blunt weapons, and never really focused on blades - which I think is wise, if you ever get into a knife fight, you will get cut. Win or lose, you will leave blood at the scene.
Good tips. My car key is not sturdy enough for a strike. I carry a flashlight that is bright and sturdy enough for disorienting and striking though. Those were criteria for selection. I also carry a Schrade tactical pen. It does not look too tactical and "it needs to be sturdy to survive pocket carry" is widely accepted as reason for the selection. It helps that it regularly comes out for writing. After a knee injury I got a hickory cane. It can be legaly carried even in environments were dangerous items are prohibited in my neck of the woods.

Small pill bottles with salt and white pepper ..easy flip top not lethal but no one can continue attacking if they can't breathe or see you. And if ever questioned its for eating tomato's while travelling
A newspaper folded the right way can make a surprisingly potent smacking tool - even if rolled up and folded in half and flatten as best you can in a hurry when you know something is about to happen can work too - the folded bit is the part to use for 'punishment' so the firmer you can get that bit the more damage it will do... its an old school trick that can buy you time, it will definitely break a nose or 2 :/
I was just going to say the same thing. My old man told me years ago that a tightly rolled newspaper makes a surprisingly effective impromptu weapon. It increases your reach and a solid whack with one is enough to make most people think twice. More importantly, pretty much anywhere, it’s something that you can carry perfectly legally in any circumstance. The key thing is (in the UK at least) as someone has already said, is never ever admit to carrying anything for “defence”, because that automatically makes any action you take with it “premeditated” in the eyes of the law.
Rolled up then folded in half newspaper is extremely effective as a club (we used to call it a Chelsea brick) and it certainly feels like getting hit with a brick 🧱
A walking cane, especially with a shepherds hook is the most ideal imo. Legal everywhere and you can't be asked about why you have it. Pens, small 6 inch by 1/2 to 1 inch round wood down for "massage", multi-tools, and my favorite, a toothbrush! Always need fresh breadth and people never question it.
I ride a Harley and a Jawa. The old style Jawa key is virtually just a spike. I also carry sometimes a sheilliegh a walking stick not with a traditional handle but a ball type handle. Usually made from black thorn. It almost looks like a hip joint. Used correctly it will keep people a bay.
My Grandmother who was born in 1892 wore in her hair two hat pins that where 5.5 inch long hat pins with pearl handles. She like most women at that time in history used to Cary hat pins for self defense.
Nice to finally see someone talk about using keys as a weapon. I was taught this as a kid when I got my own house key to go with my locker key & my bike lock key. Three keys laced between my fingers is still something I do today every time I leave a store to walk to my car. Another one most people never think of is your belt. A leather belt with a heavy metal buckle hurts if you swing it so the buckle hits them. I don't really wear that big trophy buckle because I'm vain, it's a weapon. Shoes. Everyone knows that steel toed boots & pointy toed cowboy boots hurt if you kick someone but how many women have ever considered taking off their stilettos & attacking with the heels? A metal nut on a length of string will get someone's attention. Those little pocket screw drivers are pretty stabby. There is weapon potential in all sorts of everyday objects if you just stop to look for it.
A cane (wood preferred, but not necessary) is an excellent weapon. You can make a short "stick" out of a tightly rolled magazine. Go for the eyes and face. You can thrust and strike backhand. A folding fan can become a short stick. Walk around and try to figure out as many impromptu weapons you could come up with during your daily life. Also, trust your intuition! If your intuition is telling you someplace is a bad place to go; don't go there! The fight you can avoid is much better than winning a fight. If you must fight, your goal is to do as much damage as quickly as possible and get away.
A tubular aluminum cane with a worn out, or cut out middle section of the rubber cup bottom is an impressive tool. It cuts out circles of flesh with each jab.
@@chuckburroughs6427 I would argue against that sort of thing, especially in non-permissive environments. It's likely that the use of such an item would be a felony. The cane all by itself is an excellent weapon, even the tubular aluminum sort. Thanks to HIPPA, the authorities (in the USA) can't either take it away, or ask why you have one. It's a mobility aid.

I would hate to live in a socialist state/country where the criminal has more rights than I would to defend myself. I don't enter "non-permisive" environments. The worn out cane tip is still a perfectly fine weapon to use in those places. Nobody can ever prove it was purposeful.

I CCW here where I live, but generally not when I travel out of state, unless it's to Arizona or Utah. Too many ways to trip over stupid laws. Other folks receiving your advice might live in places like New Jersey where self-defense rights go to die. I would hate to give them advice that gets them in trouble. Certainly, they should check their local laws (or the laws where they will travel) but still, just on general principles it's best not to have something that's iffy at best. And, yes, they can in fact prove it was purposeful. Even the fact that they can make the argument is a bad thing. Juries aren't going to be knowledgeable about self-defense. Remember, the facts will be twisted and used against you.

I've just now discovered your channel and subscribed, wondering how on earth I've not known about your work till now. Nearly 70 years old, I've lived in remote, isolated locations and trapped, fished and hunted to raise a family as a young man and nowadays follow anything online that involves the outdoors that I come across. As a child I remember being told to hold my door key between the fingers of a clenched fist and how difficult it would be for an assailant to get it out of your hand…I still do it now, 60 years later, but with a bunch of keys with one key between each finger.
Thick markers - sharpie or marks-a-lot. Yes, they are plastic, but at least it gives some type of impact focal point. Sharpie makes some really thick ones and Marks-A-Lot have some really acute edges.
I regularly use the 2 wooden 5 inch skewers, such as used in Candy apples at the fair. To carry into places that do a metal detector search to enter. To dance clubs and the like. So that I know i have some protection. Used as a Kubaton in a way of pressure point control or for a single strikes to vital arears. Wrapped in electrical tape or gaffers tape and hidden under my belt or in my boot. A sturdy comb can scratch or even cut. the ends that are the sturdiest can be used to strike the temple or eyes. I have a metal compact comb with a finger hole. A metal finger nail file I've carried under the know how of using it as a defense tool. Given one with a sturdy rounded handle or add tape to one end. Metal tweezers with a nice thick top end, maybe a rubber protective cap to put on the rounded end. You give me 10 min and a drawer full of odds and ends, I'll come up with at least 4 weapons. I regularly have a metal pen and flashlight on me at all times. But I pack extra items if I know I'm ending up in places that don't allow me to carry or I know could be potentially violent places (as a less than lethal option). I've never done so, but a nice pair metal chopsticks....I love the movie Kiss of the Dragon, and how he pierces the jugular with a pair of wooden chopsticks, which I think to be entirely possible. The esophagus is very soft and a vital target if ever in a life or death situation followed closely by eyes and groin.
Ever since I was a kid I have loved weapons, more so edged and blunt weapons, I also could recognize the value of ordinary objects, an ordinary magazine or newspaper when rolled up tight becomes a way to deflect or counter an attack and thrusts to vulnerable soft target areas like the throat can be effective in a pinch. Here in Canada though if asked by authorities why you're carrying something never ever say for self defense, here anything carried for the purpose of physical conflict is considered a prohibited weapon even if it's only for self defense alone. I've had officers ask why I was carrying a weapon, they were referring to my pocket knife, in a situation like that do not ever confirm their assumption, correct them and tell them what it is, a tool.
My Mother was a seamstress for most of my childhood days. I just remembered that she used some small-screwdrivers for tighten things on her sewing machine. They might be in a Craft/sewing section at “big box” store like wal-mart, or at a large hobby store. These are items that we have to “think outside the box”, but also need to remember our own protection when carrying around on our person.
I'm not physically able to fight, but I can and do carry " A can of Hair Spray and a lighter! " Both are legal most places and staying the hairspray then flicking a lighter is a mean torch!!! Works great. Just every time you spray the hair spray, rinse the nozzle cuz it will clog.
The problem with self defence stuff is that most bad guys attack without warning, very quickly and often from behind. The best defence is to be alert to your surroundings. Don't be the easy target. If a bad guy is talking to you then probably the best defence is to say how sorry you are, then talk him to a stand still, he probably just wants to let you know he thinks his tougher than you. Maybe the safest thing is to just agree with him. Sorry this doesn't sound any cooler but I've talked my way out of some bad situations.
Excellant video buddy and like you said as for being worried about getting in trouble for protecting yourself, and the only thing I would say to anyone listening don't hesitate or worry about that at all your life is more important and if someone comes at you and your minding your own business then your in the right to do anything you have to, to get the person off you or a family member and don't worry about getting in trouble because your in the right and people are getting tired of the bullshit that's happening to law abiding citizens minding there own business and getting in trouble for protecting themselves and it's gonna stop.
Hello, this was nicely presented. About 52 years ago I took a self defense course along with some coworkers, from a black belt karate teacher. We learned some moves, but weapons! Being aware of surroundings (see too many single people on their phones, oblivious to what’s going on), keys, knowing a person’s vulnerabilities (eyes, throat, solar plexus) and your purse can be used as a weapon (mine weighs five pounds!). I always carry my keys defensively and keep purse at the ready. And a phone call can wait! Thank for these tips!
Many older people use canes for balance and/or because of a painful knee. Both of these situations fits me, having lost 145 lbs over the past 20 years, the pain is not as critical as the balance situation. My cane is a rather heavy DIY hard-wood 1.5" thick hardwood branch I found at a garage sale. It is heavy and if I needed to, I could swing at some human or animal assailant. Pepper spray is another item that I could use. Now at age of almost 83, I don't get out and about much any more, and never at never at night. Fortunately I do cycle indoors 30-45 minutes per day and lift free weights (max 12 per side) twice a week. Thanks for the tips.
I'm a Biker, and I'm disabled due to an accident at the Quarry in which I worked for 29 years, which left me with a crippled left leg, I use a variety of walking sticks to get around, but if I go to anyplace which I'm not comfortable with, I usually take along my converted Pool Cue walking stick! It definitely helps me to feel safer as well as a Great weapon if it needs to be called upon! And if the Law becomes involved, I can always say that they were picking on a disabled person shame on them!
I have two of the newish gun belts that don't bend. It would make a great club. I also have a kubotan on my keys. I actually had a class on how to use it back in the 80's. And I was gifted with a tac pen last year. I like your ideas.
Totally forgot about the Kubaton. I was trained with them back then, too. We cops had the Mini-Mag flashlights on our belts at all times and they doubled well as Kubatons.
When I was serving in the Navy and deployed to foreign countries, I ALWAYS carried a sturdy ball point pen evrytime my shipmates and I went on liberty. The tactical pen you show in your video was originally made by Uzi - I have one. Great vid. Thanks...
Bic pen. I'm over 60 and have some arthritis. A few wraps of gaffers tape improves the grip, for writing. If you are old enough, you may remember the commercials that show they can open a steel can and still write.
There's a scene in the movie The Bourne Identity that shows just how lethal a pen can be. Even though this advice doesn't apply to me, people in different countries could truly benefit from this video. ✊
Fun fact: there are two reasons why a flashlight might be illegal in Europe: 1) it's too bright and can blind people 2) it's too much of a weapon with the jagged surface. The main problem however is not that you have not the right to defend yourself, but the law will always be interpreted against you! In simple terms, if you defend yourself with a weapon, then they ask why you were armed in the first place, and if you were looking for trouble, rather than defending yourself... The best worst example I can give you happened in a place I used to study: An amateur boxer with a long history of violent crimes attacked without any known reason a father with his son. He was much stronger and knocked both of them out and then jumped repeatedly on the head of the father. The son woke up, took out his Swiss Army Knife with a 2-inch blade, and poked him literally in the rear. Surprisingly, this scared the assailant away and saved his dad's life. I say surprisingly, because most of the time, people underestimate the damage a knife can cause, especially when they're high as a kite... In court, the boy was punished harsher than the criminal, because the latter was too high to be considered sane and legally liable. It was held against the boy that he attacked from behind and without warning. Sadly, there are many such stories in many countries. There are many versions of people being injured in home invasions by armed assailants and managing to turn the tides with a legal weapon and still being charged for attempted murder, or at the very least excessive violence as if you could talk down the people who are actively trying to murder you...

Hello from across the pond. Yes, those tac-pens are great. I carry one at all times. I find that scalp wounds bleed profusely and serve as a great disorienting injury. A tac-pen strike to the forehead is debilitating, too. Ladies may wish to carry a can of hairspray in their pocket to use as a weapon. The more sadistic ladies may want to add a cigarette lighter to their self-defence arsenal to make the perfect 'hair spraying flame-thrower'. All legal and above board in Merry England.
When flying, I carry a set of chopsticks in my backpack. The kind with the rounded ends. Get them free at any Chinese restaurant. Keep them in the paper sleeve. Maybe sharpen the ends a bit. Never been a problem at Security.
Improvised weaponry, in my opinion, becomes very useful in a tight spot. Just develop a mindset where you can see the combat/defense capability in things around you. One thing I started doing after seeing a large number of robberies taking place outside of gas stations, is whenever buying a drink, usually a monster or Red Bull, I’ll make sure to get it bagged. A Metal can in a plastic bag becomes a one shot flail very easily and it more than likely will bust the bag on first contact but if it’s a head shot it won’t matter because you’ve already leveled the playing field. I saw people mention the padlock and bandana. Key thing to remember, those are illegal and considered weapons in a lot of places due to their association with gangs. A monkey fist is another good flail option. Now, states laws determine legality when it’s tied around a metal core, others say “solid core.” A bouncy ball is perfect replacement for a metal core and if “solid core” is the issue, you can tie the knot tight enough that it is still helpful if tied tight enough and solid enough. It can be attached to anything for quick access. A solid metal chain necklace, like the out of style ball bearing necklaces, are very capable for swinging and wrapping around your fist. The other accessory, the old school chain wallet, a watch, or thick chain bracelet. (All of these were actually, except the watch, banned from my high school and a lot of other schools when I was nearly 2 decades younger due to people using them like weapons. Same as studded belts.) I’ve been hit with a lot of random things while at concerts and bars and I’ve had to return the favor a couple times becomes bouncers or security wasn’t there to help. Literally anything can be a weapon. I saw a girl stab another girl with a nail file.
When I was in my 20's and doing field work by myself, my Mom asked me to make sure I always had my rock hammer with me and to not be afraid to use it if necessary. Never did have to use it on anything but rocks, but it was always with me
I have found that most tactical pens will not allow me to 'get my thumb behind them'. And, as an international traveler, I use the Zebra F-70-1 and the M-701... Stainless shank, pointed, and I can get my thumb behind them. Great vid - I love the idea of the key!
Here in Canada we are NOT allowed to carry weapons. Guns have been essentially banned. And you could never carry a firearm here ever. If you were carrying anything here and said that you were carrying it for the purpose of Self Defense. You would probably be charged and arrested. You can't carry something for Self Defense purposes because that indicates you are carrying a weapon. Self Defense is within our Law but it is frowned upon. We have a case not far from me. A store clerk was being robbed by a guy with a BaseBall Bat. He hit the clerk with the bat multiple times. The clerk fought back. He took control of the bat and hit the robber with it. The robber ran and got away. I think the police caught the guy later. But they laid charges of assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon on the store clerk. Arrested him and took him to jail. Our Laws are upside down here. Talking about Tactical Pens. They are generally identified at a distance, mostly in the way people carry them. Usually clipped on to a pocket in the same manner as a folding knife. They tend to look aggressive as well. And in some places they are illegal. I carry a pen everyday. It's as good as a Tactical version. You can buy this pen almost anywhere. It's called a Zebra F-701. It's all Stainless Steel, it comes with a fine point ink cartridge. What I do is buy a package of two of their Medium tipped cartridges. I like the thicker writing point. I have a few F-701 models but the model I carry daily is an upgraded version. It's called the F-xMD. It costs a little more than the standard unit as there are some slight differences. The MD version has a thicker barrel for one thing. The 701 is about ten dollars here and the MD is a little more. I got the upgrade off of Amazon. And for the ink cartridge I installed a Space Pen Cartridge. It's a bit sticky when clicking the point in and out but it works okay. I have carried my pen for years. But a couple of years ago a Navy SEAL wrote a book about Urban Survival and recommended the 701 model. Because it looks like a regular pen. Writes like a regular pen but can be lethal. Although weapons are not allowed, I carry all kinds anyway. The only time anyone will know about it. Is if I am put in a situation where I have to use one of my EDC weapons. I plan on surviving even if our screwed up Law would prefer that I am a Blood Dot on the pavement that they have to scrape up. One of the best weapons that I can recommend anyone use. In particular Women. Is a weapon that is available in most countries. It's usually fairly easy to get a hold of this weapon. You don't need any training to use it. You can use it at arms length so your attacker isn't necessarily close to you. And this weapon can easily disable more than one attacker giving you time to turn and run to safety. But you need an available pocket that's empty and within easy reach to carry the weapon. The name of this weapon is Dry Sand. It's devastating when thrown in the face. I carry a Flashlight in a carry pouch that has a belt loop. It sits on my right side giving me fast easy access. I have a lot of different types. Some bigger with the Tactical edges at both ends designed to inflict wounds. Although they are NOT allowed here I have a couple of Fast Strikes. Non-Lethal Defense weapons that are similar to a Whip. They are fashioned from metal cabling. Home Depot sells it in different gauges. You can make your own. It can be put in a pocket and run it down your leg through a hole in your pocket. You can put it through your belt loops and clip it to the front of your pants for quick easy access. It works really well. I also carry at times, depends where I'm going. A Collapsible Baton. I have a couple of them but I really prefer the 26 inch version. It affords you a little more distance from any attacker. These work really well and they do generate a fear factor. Train with this tool and you can become very effective when using it. A couple of good solid whacks in the legs/knees will give you time to run. I made these spikes that I can lace up on my shoes. They are lethal when used to kick with. I spray painted them black to match my shoes/boots and you can't see them even in daylight. And you can always spread something on the spikes if needed. If you can't buy it, make it. I have other things I carry from time to time. It depends on the time of the year, where I'm going, what I will be doing and what I'm going to be wearing.
These are great ideas! Add a pair of inexpensive work gloves for grip. I feel more confident holding my mini bat shaped flashlight in my cheap True Grip gloves from the dollar store!
Always know your surroundings and nature can supply you with a lot of defensive things, sharp sticks or a rock. One thing that a lot of people carry is an umbrella and it can work very well!
I think about shoe laces. Walking stick. My 33,000 lumen police flashlight, is very heavy, but the strobe will make me, invisible, and the attacker blind. My belt could be used to defend myself, or kill
I've got less hair than you ,but always carry a comb . Pushed into where the nose meets the top lip is a great deterrent ,could give you vital seconds to retreat .
Good advice. I have just turned 70 and the last year has not been a good one health-wise, I'm finally coming to the realization that I am no longer the 25 year old my mind likes to think I am ! I live in the UK, so we are not "allowed" to protect ourselves. From now on my "Taclight" will be ever present and I'm going to look into a pen, something in each pocket then. Excellent content here! For me, the tactical pen has been an option of mine for "years"! My favorite is the all black, solid aluminum Boker tac pen! It even WRITES!!! It's actually my first 'go too' tool in an altercation. A very effective force multiplier that can either give you distance, or time to deploy something a bit more serious. Excellent video, brother. There's a reason some of these items are used in horror or gore movies. Pens and pencils and keys can do a LOT of damage in the right place, at the least they'll buy you time to get the upper hand or get away. I always carry one of those little cord-like emergency-kit saws (it looks like a toothed string with a key ring on each end), also, and while it might not loot like much danger, if it can saw wood (and they can, I've actually used one to saw an old dresser into a small coop when I first got a couple chickens) then they can certainly hurt an attacker's wrist or back of their neck, or leg, etc. And the stunning power of a bright light suddenly in your eye is exactly the reason cops always approach cars at night with a light right on the driver's face. Also, never underestimate the power of a stray stick on the ground, it can be used to give the illusion of being stabbed which could stagger an attacker, and it is most effective against a neck or groin or the face. Another thing I love to keep on hand not only for my lips but also just in case is a tube of chapstick. If you make your own, that's even better because you can add in oils that will greatly impair vision. Caps are generally easy to pop off with your thumb, and then you can just jab the chapstick itself in the eyes of your attacker (if you're face-to-face). Oils like peppermint, cinnamon, tea tree work really well as they sting the heck out of eyes if you get those even near. You can also infuse cayenne pepper in some oil (like Dollar Store coconut oil; just pout a bunch of cayenne into the coconut oil and let it sit in the sun for a day or two) and keep that in a chapstick tube in your purse or pocket when ever you're out alone. Coconut oil melts on contact with human skin (melting point is around 70 degrees or so) which will instantly coat the eye with cayenne. The oil will blur sight, and the the cayenne literally burns like Hell.
As much as I agree and support the message behind this video and the intent behind all of that. It still remains the same and in a court be that a civil claim by your victim or criminal by the state/Crown etc could and most probably would be argued that, "if you buy an item with the express purpose of using it (at any time) as a weapon, then no matter what it says on the label, or how long has passed since you bought it, it is a weapon in your eyes as the buyer and when you use it you are using it for the exact purpose you bought it, as a weapon." The logical definition of weapon is something used to inflict harm or damage, and there is no other alternative description of what a weapon is, and the plan to use it as a weapon is its design not only aesthetically but also the motives, intent, thought and actions behind its purchase constitute to its plan and design to be a weapon. There is no escaping this. Be mindful of that. Because if I were to face such a case in court that is exactly how I would execute my argument, that it may be a key or torch or pen upon casual inspection, but when we apply motives intent (design) we are faced with a weapon intended to cause harm or damage. So please be mindful of your legal position. Also, I don't think there is a country that does not permit self-defence. Everywhere allows you to use self-defence, just read the international humanitarian law it is clear that everywhere allows self-defence. How much or how far you can go or under what circumstances may differ, but that does not mean you are not allowed to use self-defence. I'm from the UK and I here brits saying all the time we are not allowed to use self-defence or similar. This is total nonsense. Everyone has the right in uk law to defend themselves, their family, friends or total strangers, and property, not just their own but any property. The caveat in law between defence and assault is the exclamation of your intent, to who and when. If you find yourself involved in physical confrontation for whatever reason and you've "fought off" another to protect person or property and police have arrived, you MUST TELL POLICE IMMEDIATELY that you acted in self-defence. This changes the direction of the police investigation by law. The duty of the crown (prosectution) is now to PROVE YOU DID NOT ACT in self-defense. That is an almost impossible case to prove. ALWAYS GET A LAWYER if you are arrested. But tell police before you are charged you acted in self-defence even if you've not got a lawyer yet. Self-defence is a protected right in human rights law and any country in the UN (BASICALLY ALL OF THEM BAR TWO) have agreed to human rights laws. Of which the right to defend oneself, ones home, ones nation (israel-palestine excuses), is protected and expected in a civilised society.
My mama, and at one time, we were in a very dangerous situation. She taught me anything in your reach can be used as a weapon. You have to get the thought out of your head you are afraid to fight or hurt the other person. She taught me not to stop until the other person does not move. Mom's gone on to glory, from natural causes, but her memories, wisdom, and knowledge lives on.
Regarding a pen for defense ; the common Bic pen's first ad showing it's strength was firing one from a lever action rifle (circa the 1950's) penetrating a board . Yes , it will hurt your hand , but used as you held the key you will stand a better chance of going home . It is okay to be vicious in defense .
as a former prison guard, I always carried a nice metal large flashlight, a good metal pen and set of keys with an old car key that was a nice fit between my figures. We were not allowed to carry weapons, CO spray or,later, cell phones. Prisons have ' dead zones" you learn real fast where they are and keep your 'tools' in hands reach. Only Sgts, LTs and Tack sqauds were allowed OC spray and tasers. It Worked the same when I became a jailer at our Sheriffs' office. Only Sgts, Lts and road deputys had weapons, OC and tasers there too.
"We're not allowed to have any weapons in our country." For those folks who said that, consider this: all of the cool martial arts weapons from places like China started out as farming implements/tools because the peasants were not allowed to have regular weapons like sword or spears. They just applied their imagination to their tools. Here's one you didn't mention: belt. If you've got a couple of minutes warning, you can take off your belt and wrap it around your fist several times like a set of brass knuckles made of leather. This will boost your punching power. Since your fist will be protected, you can hit harder. Here's another: coins. There's the old standby of holding a roll of coins in your fist to support your fist, making it more effective for punching. But not everyone can carry around a roll of coins. However, throwing a handful of loose coins in someone's face can make a great distraction, allowing you to prep something else with which to fight. Still another: ring. If you wear a diamond ring, turn it around so that the diamond is on the inside. Then when you slap someone, the diamond can scratch your opponent. And if you can slap them across an eye, you can blind them in that eye. Plus, it will hurt like @#%%&!
I carry a compact...fit in the hand cattle prod. It emits about 15 hundred volts, I figure it's gonna give me enough time to move out of the way. Our weapon laws here in Australia are pretty tight, so you need to become inventive, in saying that I do carry one of those tactical pens also. They're compact and would do the job well.

I like the idea of the flashlight...I am going to practise that motion...I am female. and not as strong as I think.
I’m a severely disabled Veteran in my late 70s, so I’m not physically able to do “fisticuffs” like I once could. Two things that I carry in my car and in my walker when I’m out of my car is, 1. A small signal horn that is so loud that it could make an attackers ears bleed and get the attention of others more than a quarter of a mile away. 2. A can of hornet and wasp spray that shoots a stream of bee spray at least 25 feet! While I’m no longer in great physical condition, my trigger finger is as strong as ever 😂.

Yes if you spray someone wih be or hornet spray they need medicall attention there is no ifs and or buts about that.😅
I'd switch up the wasp spray to pepperspray.
A family member suggested that I keep a couple cans handy right by my front and back door. It's cheap and as you mentioned you can squirt that spray a long distance. Others mentioned pepper spray which is more convenient to carry on the go-but if you go that route, get the gel so you don't get any blowback in YOUR eyes when spraying it.

The best weapon the elderly have is the walking stick. I keep relatively fit . I can't bench press 100kg . But i can do 50 pushups . I spend 20 minutes morning and night swinging my sticks . And that gives me much better reach than a knife . And yes i do need the stick . All things in life are about perspective . How do you want to live .

Anyone can carry a crook top cane. They're considered aids to ambulation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (carried anywhere) and thereby under HIPPA, nobody can ask you why you have a cane, it is protected medical information. Thats federal stuff

My excuse is that the legs have enough training but my arms do not, so I do exercise with my walking stick.

I am a bicycle courier in a major US city. I have many coworkers would have had to use their U-lock in self defense and I used to carry the same. I now carry a bicycle chain lock unlocked around my neck. I have had to use it for defense but most just see it and don't want to test it. Stop the fight before it starts

In the UK one thing you MUST remember is NEVER EVER say that you are carrying an object to defend yourself because that could be enough for item to be considered an “offensive weapon”.

Yep, my work requires me to have safety LOTO (lock out tag out) locks. I also keep a tied/looped heavy duty bootlace in my backpack. When I have to travel by plane then I run the bootlace around the shackle and it’s a formidable weapon in my pocket.

here is one weapon you can carry anywhere and you can find them everywhere a simple rock in a sock works quite well. It won't be picked up by metal detectors and if it has some engraving on it such as a memoriam for a loved one when it ie examined it will be viewed as a keepsake.

Can, from experience, say that a car key or a paddock/deadbolt key can make the difference between being kidnapped or not. Aim for the face and if you can use the interior of your car to limit the attacker's rang of movement.

Advice is great, but waiting for darkness isn't! You have to think positive, don't judge, and offer to help as you can. Compassion is the only way forward and upward! Even a smile or "Good day" to a stranger, can make a big difference to their mood. You will feel it too!

Old white haired woman here, maybe with an adventurous past. Diaabled now but grandkids live in far flung states. I can still drive and dont like to fly but occasionally the bossy kids buy me a flight. Last time security wouldnt even let me have my flashlight, yes it is "tactical" but i gave it a shot. What they did allow me to carry on that surprised me was my small crochet project, metal crochet hook, scissors for thread cutting, tacticul pen to mark my pattern.
Now, I was crocheting a new blanket for great grandbaby the whole trip. But while in a state 1000 miles from home I had some backup for my aging body.
Biggest weapon is the mind, thinking ahead. Never looking for trouble but knowing how to use what you do have.

I have a solid steel walking/defense stick by my door if someone's nearly in the door, I'' grab that and go for the face

Here are a list of items: steel toe boots, chop sticks, 2 pencils held together with range bands aka rubber bands, a bicycle chain with part taped to hold as a handle, squirt gun filled with bleach,
fishing weights in a bandana, or have them attached to back of a hat., take a pen but take out the ink part put in small screw driver blade or small nail, string some nuts on a string and tape together to make a sap, or you can sew sand in a bandana, a roll of quaters, dimes etc and taped up, a razor blade sew it into brim of hat cover with cloth. a piece of rx cable, a old school was a antena off of a car. they cut like a razor. pardon my spelling i have learning disability from 106 temp. , a scratch awl, ice pick salute from a old vet

I used to work with leather and the awl I had had a ball shaped handle that fit perfectly in my palm. The awl part would fit perfectly between my fingers when I held the handle in my palm. It was not noticeable to carry in my hand when I had to walk at night in the city.

Agree. 9 times out of 10, if you are in a situation that turns into a real fight, you screwed up somewhere. The thing is, yeah you need to defend yourself, but even if you succeed in doing so, the result might still not be pretty (scars, legal, monetary, etc.). A fight pretty much means you lose the war even if you win the battle.

Here's a note concerning a flashlight used as a weapon. You may be tempted to drive the flat end of the flashlight (where the light bulb is located) into your attacker's head. It's more useful to strike with the edge of the flat end (the part that's screwed into place.) That way, you're concentrating the power of your strike into a smaller area. That will do more damage. That applies to anything you may use as a striking implement. For example, as a weapon, a walking stick is more useful as a jabbing instrument than as a bat.

When I used to have to fly for work, I always carried a hard bound book. The corners of the book can be used to strike the eyes, throat, temples. An upward thrust on the side edge to the underside of a nose can break it. The flat surface can be used to parry a knife. An oldy, several rolls of pennies in a strong sock with a knot. Three to four inches between the coins and your fist is just right to apply a large force to vulnerable areas. Just about anything can be a weapon.
That is a great idea. If it's small enough, you can keep it in a pocket and no one will question it.

About your belt has a defensive weapon instead of your snaps,? You can use small screws washer on both sides, small nut on the back. This will keep your buckle in place and it won’t come off.. I used this once, against two guys bigger than me. Worked well.

A friend who lived on a sailboat had a belt buckle with snap locks with a 2inch blade. It is a common item in the sailing community to be used to cut lines in an emergency.
Surprise, speed, and violence of action are my favorites. If you do have a pen, key, carabiner (a real one, not the stuff for $2 at the checkout), flashlight, belt wrapped around a fist. But pulling these out for all to see can sometimes raise the ante and then the opponent pulls a knife or gun. Better yet, don't visit places where such violence might be necessary, such as around others who are strangers who are drinking..... If you do have a regular spot, enduring the staff to you through ample tipping, being polite and courteous, all this might help you when the staff are being interviewed by cops (its also just nice to do in general without ulterior motive). IMO, it's just too dangerous to fight others these days.....

Nice video, we live in a reasonably peaseful area of the UK, the wife goes walking day and night, and about 5 years ago I brought her a UK legal knife, 3" blade, none locking folding, only as a last resort, she laughed and showed me her keys and there are 4, she said if i feel uneasy each key fits between each finger, she then grabbed the tourch (same design as yours, that I got her) and her pen, she carry`s the exact setup that you have shown, so I kept the knife ;)

Carrying any blade in the UK, even a 3" one, is illegal unless you're carrying it for a purpose (and self defence isn't a recognised purpose).
2. A few or more coins in the pocket. When dropped to the street, 99,9% of people in the immediate vicinity *will* momentarily pause to look towards the spot of the clanking sound. Potentially crucial time gained.

Not to be picky and argumentative, but I don't think criminals ever care if they are breaking the law. If they cared, they wouldn't intentionally break the law. But yes, it seems as though criminals are becoming considerably more violent, probably encouraged by the notion that the application of the law is more lenient for certain types of crimes and criminals.

Being just north of the 70 line, three years ago I decided it was time to start carrying a firearm and a flashlite. My wife has her CCW (although we don't, now, need it to carry in IN).
Two hip replacements and being diagnosed with COPD, even though I never smoked, made me feel like I had a bix 'X' on my back.
Living in the U.S., I have been accustomed to protecting myself with firearms.
Just recently, I traveled to Europe and one of the places I went was Paris. I have never felt so vulnerable without my firearm and/or knife. Firearm not allowed and to go into any of the sites… you and bag would be searched…so no knife.
Keys I had as you suggested. In addition, I bought an umbrella to be used as striking and/or distraction.
But the best protection I had was my mind and situational awareness. If you pay attention to your surroundings, you are able to spot the threats and they know you are aware so they leave you alone. Yea Paris is a CRAP hole and alot of shady characters.

Even entering France at the border, immediately noticed the difference in trash and graffiti everywhere. Maybe other parts of France is better, but just the drive to the airport then downtown Paris is depressing and definitely stressful moving between tourist spots.
We were in Paris in 1984 it was absolutely wonderful we took a midnight stole along the river. Paris being reduced to a crap hole is completely a result of the floods of people moving in from other countries without the same respect for social security, without the Christian belief to respect your fellow man. With 8 million illegal aliens flooding across the Democrats open border in three years, we should be worried here in the United States how our country is going to suffer.

In England, it is up to the police and courts to decide what a weapon is and they are very strict. However, may I add to your list a handful of dirt or gravel. If you put a small plastic bag in your pocket filled with some gravel, it can be easily reached and allows about three "shots" to the face of an opponent. This buys time to decide whether to run or fight.
I've found it effective against aggressive dogs too.

At 66, I have enough disabilities to keep from much maneuvering, but not dead in the water, anyway! I've got some tricks with my cane, but I need something better than these cheesy "bend-over-your-knee" medical standbys. I must fashion a mighty oaken staff, as sturdy as to set Little John on his knee! That one will take some work...
My most efficient defense weapon is simpler and costs less than $2. I used to drive taxi in the suburbs of NYC a century ago, for a while on night shift. A limo driver parked next to me in a fast-food parking lot, so we chatted. He showed me his weapon of choice, and it's a brilliant idea. At the supermarket, pick up a few of those little plastic lemon-shaped dispensers full of lemon juice. The kind that you squeeze, and lemon juice squirts out in a strong easy to aim, direct, long range squirt.
Anyone who is puzzled at this, has obviously never gotten lemon juice in their eye! And don't try it "just to see what happens"! It's not actually harmful, but it will stop any human on the spot. Maybe Grizzlies too. Pepper spray, tear gas, DDT, Roundup, Agent Orange, got nothing on just the juice. The plastic dispensers are reusable too, I remember using them for squirt guns back in grade school. Spraying someone in the face with lemony fresh citric acid isn't a felony, or expensive, or involving a "procedure" to do. It's an all natural criminal disposal system.
Be alert for drinking fountains or sources of water, it's quick and easy to wash away. Also, if the bad guy/gal is wearing shades, remember to aim up from under. The tiniest amount of lemon will be enough to completely distract anyone long enough to get your mighty oaken staff and finish them off. Practice at home with water to get your aim set, and you can poke at the hole carefully with a pin or thumbtack to get a stream with more volume. Kids with love them with water for playing!
Caution: If you refill them with something other than water, LABEL THEM!! Also, do not refill these with battery acid (sulfuric acid) because the plastic will melt, and you'll have a hell of a mess on the kitchen table...

I don't know if this is true but a friend of mine told me plain old hair spray was good, and if you have to get rougher, use your lighter while holding the spray on and you got a little blow torch.
@@pamelashiflett5281 You are right. Not just hair spray (but it's one of the best for that) but almost any non-food aerosol spray works! Not pump spray, like window cleaner, but the cans with strong smelling stuff. Bug spray might cause serious damage, but it sounds appropriate! Spray paint, particularly bright or neon colors to make it easier for police to find these creeps! Air freshener. Ha! There must be lots more! Using a lighter gets instant results, but is pretty extreme! I've done that to clear out wasp nests, and it works great, though I still feel bad at the carnage, even thought they are just bugs! It burns the wings off right away. Serious fires can happen that way, too. Some cans will drip, on your hand even. You drop it to put the flame out on your thumb, then there's fire everywhere. The worst might be spraying at someone with long hair. That's a bonfire only meant for the movies!
I carry a solid hard wood cane. Everywhere. If I'm out of my car, I have my cane. Completely legal. Can walk through a TSA Security Checkpoint with one because there is no metal. Mine happens to be rosewood, single piece. You can find things like this online (particularly martial art sites). The key part is the "recurve" end. The big wide ends are no good. The middle of the recurve is rounded but then returns to the main body with only three inches between the end of the recurve and the main body of the cane. Think foot pounds per square inch. I'm 68. I also keep a simple BIC pen ... when grabbed by the arm, and I retailiate ... let me tell you puncture wounds hurt. And I can put a dozen in your arm starting from the wrist up to the bicep before you can say "Oh Sh*t".
I'm an old man who doesn't need a cane (yet) but use one--1" diameter hickory--when I'm walking around a street faire or park. My late father-in-law was a machinist who kept a big screwdriver under the seat of his car. The tip was NOT sharpened---but the edges were perfectly square.
Same as me. I got an Irish Shillelagh walking stick, cane, from McCaffrey crafts, Ireland. It has saved my dog's life several times while attacked by street dogs.
Situational awareness is your best defence, listen to your gut and avoid dangerous situations. Make sure you’re prepared, car serviced and full of fuel. The proper clothing and footwear etc. Great content.

As I use a bicycle to go to work in the city centre, I have a bike lock that can be used as a mace and do lots of damage if needed. Well it is not considered a weapon and is an essential item to carry with me.
I also have keys with me and I usually wear anti-cut combat gloves to ride my bike (they prove to be much better for intense usage than proper bicycle gloves .
I have a ruike knife with a very vicious blade on me but I would only reluctantly use it as a weapon as it could bring me into trouble with the police.
This is what I carry with me in an urban environment. It's another story when I go camping and trekking.
Develop the mindset of everything is a weapon and you will look at everything differently. From a rolled up magazine to a baseball cap to a pencil anything and everything is a weapon or force multiplier.
I have a granddaughter that is 16.she is very thin only weighs 85 lb. I bought pepper spray, I really appreciate these ideas I will sure try to share them with her. GOD bless you👏🏼🙏
If you can’t carry a knife in your car - carry a sturdy fork. It’s explainable because you were eating in your car. It’s a good weapon.

I am pretty sure a roll of coins would be considered a weapon in some countries,as it would not be handy to hold coins for small purchases,but could only be practical as a weapon.
I am pretty sure a roll of coins would be considered a weapon in some countries,as it would not be handy to hold coins for small purchases,but could only be practical as a weapon.
I used to carry a metal pen, but I stopped because in a court of law, shit can go the wrong way, because "i" carried it as a weapon, so if you carry a pen make sure it's a "Bic", but i question the government laws, that make it illegal to defend yourself and i trained as a martial artist, but in today's world that is a negative not a positive...were the hell are we going...
The flashlight is considered by many to be the best non-lethal weapon, and best weapon behind a gun. And it can be taken anywhere without any legal issues. Try flashing a strong, 300+ lumen flashlight in your eyes and you will be temporarily blinded for a few minutes in any lower light situation. Especially the newer LED ones that can even fit in your pocket and are up to 3000 lumens. That’s plenty of time to temporarily blind someone, get in a good blow and/or escape.
Pocket sand , small coconut in a bag or a nice looking rock in a bag say your a rock collector and came across it a thick plastic or aluminium blade hiden in the bottom of your shoe, carbon toe shoes

Due to a law enforcement career in Canada, I know that any object can be defined as a weapon, depending upon the use made of it. My legs and balance are compromised due to MS, but I could be a ferocious old lady with common pointy metal objects ready in my pockets, and a necessary cane. I know ground fighting, and carry not a purse, but have all such contents in a sturdy sling bag across my chest. Thanks!

Walking cane. If I have an item on me that can be used for striking, such as an ink pen, I put on a glove for protection and hit an old car tire screwed on the wall in my home gym. See how it performs. If it breaks, the leather glove helps protect the hand. A pair of safety glasses too. If it passes the test... it's good to go.
Also use the tire to practice other bladed weapons on.
New subscriber, I love this content. My dad was my first self-defense instructor back when I was 12 or 13 years old. He was fond of saying. "Boys I don't want my sons to start fights, but if you get into a fight that you cannot avoid. I want you to finish it. Remember that the fair fight is the one you win!" He taught us mostly improvised blunt weapons, and never really focused on blades - which I think is wise, if you ever get into a knife fight, you will get cut. Win or lose, you will leave blood at the scene.

Good tips. My car key is not sturdy enough for a strike. I carry a flashlight that is bright and sturdy enough for disorienting and striking though. Those were criteria for selection. I also carry a Schrade tactical pen. It does not look too tactical and "it needs to be sturdy to survive pocket carry" is widely accepted as reason for the selection. It helps that it regularly comes out for writing. After a knee injury I got a hickory cane. It can be legaly carried even in environments were dangerous items are prohibited in my neck of the woods.

Small pill bottles with salt and white pepper ..easy flip top not lethal but no one can continue attacking if they can't breathe or see you. And if ever questioned its for eating tomato's while travelling

A newspaper folded the right way can make a surprisingly potent smacking tool - even if rolled up and folded in half and flatten as best you can in a hurry when you know something is about to happen can work too - the folded bit is the part to use for 'punishment' so the firmer you can get that bit the more damage it will do... its an old school trick that can buy you time, it will definitely break a nose or 2 :/
I was just going to say the same thing. My old man told me years ago that a tightly rolled newspaper makes a surprisingly effective impromptu weapon. It increases your reach and a solid whack with one is enough to make most people think twice. More importantly, pretty much anywhere, it’s something that you can carry perfectly legally in any circumstance.
The key thing is (in the UK at least) as someone has already said, is never ever admit to carrying anything for “defence”, because that automatically makes any action you take with it “premeditated” in the eyes of the law.
Rolled up then folded in half newspaper is extremely effective as a club (we used to call it a Chelsea brick) and it certainly feels like getting hit with a brick 🧱
A walking cane, especially with a shepherds hook is the most ideal imo. Legal everywhere and you can't be asked about why you have it. Pens, small 6 inch by 1/2 to 1 inch round wood down for "massage", multi-tools, and my favorite, a toothbrush! Always need fresh breadth and people never question it.
Toothbrushes are great. My favorite is the Oral-B brand with the pointy end.
I ride a Harley and a Jawa. The old style Jawa key is virtually just a spike. I also carry sometimes a sheilliegh a walking stick not with a traditional handle but a ball type handle. Usually made from black thorn. It almost looks like a hip joint. Used correctly it will keep people a bay.
My Grandmother who was born in 1892 wore in her hair two hat pins that where 5.5 inch long hat pins with pearl handles. She like most women at that time in history used to Cary hat pins for self defense.

Nice to finally see someone talk about using keys as a weapon. I was taught this as a kid when I got my own house key to go with my locker key & my bike lock key. Three keys laced between my fingers is still something I do today every time I leave a store to walk to my car. Another one most people never think of is your belt. A leather belt with a heavy metal buckle hurts if you swing it so the buckle hits them. I don't really wear that big trophy buckle because I'm vain, it's a weapon. Shoes. Everyone knows that steel toed boots & pointy toed cowboy boots hurt if you kick someone but how many women have ever considered taking off their stilettos & attacking with the heels? A metal nut on a length of string will get someone's attention. Those little pocket screw drivers are pretty stabby. There is weapon potential in all sorts of everyday objects if you just stop to look for it.
A cane (wood preferred, but not necessary) is an excellent weapon. You can make a short "stick" out of a tightly rolled magazine. Go for the eyes and face. You can thrust and strike backhand. A folding fan can become a short stick. Walk around and try to figure out as many impromptu weapons you could come up with during your daily life. Also, trust your intuition! If your intuition is telling you someplace is a bad place to go; don't go there! The fight you can avoid is much better than winning a fight. If you must fight, your goal is to do as much damage as quickly as possible and get away.
A tubular aluminum cane with a worn out, or cut out middle section of the rubber cup bottom is an impressive tool. It cuts out circles of flesh with each jab.

The cane all by itself is an excellent weapon, even the tubular aluminum sort. Thanks to HIPPA, the authorities (in the USA) can't either take it away, or ask why you have one. It's a mobility aid.

I would hate to live in a socialist state/country where the criminal has more rights than I would to defend myself. I don't enter "non-permisive" environments. The worn out cane tip is still a perfectly fine weapon to use in those places. Nobody can ever prove it was purposeful.

I CCW here where I live, but generally not when I travel out of state, unless it's to Arizona or Utah. Too many ways to trip over stupid laws. Other folks receiving your advice might live in places like New Jersey where self-defense rights go to die. I would hate to give them advice that gets them in trouble. Certainly, they should check their local laws (or the laws where they will travel) but still, just on general principles it's best not to have something that's iffy at best. And, yes, they can in fact prove it was purposeful. Even the fact that they can make the argument is a bad thing. Juries aren't going to be knowledgeable about self-defense. Remember, the facts will be twisted and used against you.

As a child I remember being told to hold my door key between the fingers of a clenched fist and how difficult it would be for an assailant to get it out of your hand…I still do it now, 60 years later, but with a bunch of keys with one key between each finger.
Thick markers - sharpie or marks-a-lot. Yes, they are plastic, but at least it gives some type of impact focal point. Sharpie makes some really thick ones and Marks-A-Lot have some really acute edges.
Plus, you can "mark" your assailant... preferably in the facial area.
It's also a good idea to know how to run fast.
I regularly use the 2 wooden 5 inch skewers, such as used in Candy apples at the fair. To carry into places that do a metal detector search to enter. To dance clubs and the like. So that I know i have some protection. Used as a Kubaton in a way of pressure point control or for a single strikes to vital arears. Wrapped in electrical tape or gaffers tape and hidden under my belt or in my boot. A sturdy comb can scratch or even cut. the ends that are the sturdiest can be used to strike the temple or eyes. I have a metal compact comb with a finger hole. A metal finger nail file I've carried under the know how of using it as a defense tool. Given one with a sturdy rounded handle or add tape to one end. Metal tweezers with a nice thick top end, maybe a rubber protective cap to put on the rounded end. You give me 10 min and a drawer full of odds and ends, I'll come up with at least 4 weapons. I regularly have a metal pen and flashlight on me at all times. But I pack extra items if I know I'm ending up in places that don't allow me to carry or I know could be potentially violent places (as a less than lethal option). I've never done so, but a nice pair metal chopsticks....I love the movie Kiss of the Dragon, and how he pierces the jugular with a pair of wooden chopsticks, which I think to be entirely possible. The esophagus is very soft and a vital target if ever in a life or death situation followed closely by eyes and groin.

Ever since I was a kid I have loved weapons, more so edged and blunt weapons, I also could recognize the value of ordinary objects, an ordinary magazine or newspaper when rolled up tight becomes a way to deflect or counter an attack and thrusts to vulnerable soft target areas like the throat can be effective in a pinch. Here in Canada though if asked by authorities why you're carrying something never ever say for self defense, here anything carried for the purpose of physical conflict is considered a prohibited weapon even if it's only for self defense alone. I've had officers ask why I was carrying a weapon, they were referring to my pocket knife, in a situation like that do not ever confirm their assumption, correct them and tell them what it is, a tool.
My Mother was a seamstress for most of my childhood days. I just remembered that she used some small-screwdrivers for tighten things on her sewing machine. They might be in a Craft/sewing section at “big box” store like wal-mart, or at a large hobby store. These are items that we have to “think outside the box”, but also need to remember our own protection when carrying around on our person.

" A can of Hair Spray and a lighter! " Both are legal most places and staying the hairspray then flicking a lighter is a mean torch!!! Works great. Just every time you spray the hair spray, rinse the nozzle cuz it will clog.
The problem with self defence stuff is that most bad guys attack without warning, very quickly and often from behind. The best defence is to be alert to your surroundings. Don't be the easy target.
If a bad guy is talking to you then probably the best defence is to say how sorry you are, then talk him to a stand still, he probably just wants to let you know he thinks his tougher than you. Maybe the safest thing is to just agree with him.
Sorry this doesn't sound any cooler but I've talked my way out of some bad situations.

Hello, this was nicely presented. About 52 years ago I took a self defense course along with some coworkers, from a black belt karate teacher. We learned some moves, but weapons! Being aware of surroundings (see too many single people on their phones, oblivious to what’s going on), keys, knowing a person’s vulnerabilities (eyes, throat, solar plexus) and your purse can be used as a weapon (mine weighs five pounds!). I always carry my keys defensively and keep purse at the ready. And a phone call can wait! Thank for these tips!

Many older people use canes for balance and/or because of a painful knee. Both of these situations fits me, having lost 145 lbs over the past 20 years, the pain is not as critical as the balance situation. My cane is a rather heavy DIY hard-wood 1.5" thick hardwood branch I found at a garage sale. It is heavy and if I needed to, I could swing at some human or animal assailant. Pepper spray is another item that I could use. Now at age of almost 83, I don't get out and about much any more, and never at never at night. Fortunately I do cycle indoors 30-45 minutes per day and lift free weights (max 12 per side) twice a week. Thanks for the tips.

I'm a Biker, and I'm disabled due to an accident at the Quarry in which I worked for 29 years, which left me with a crippled left leg, I use a variety of walking sticks to get around, but if I go to anyplace which I'm not comfortable with, I usually take along my converted Pool Cue walking stick! It definitely helps me to feel safer as well as a Great weapon if it needs to be called upon! And if the Law becomes involved, I can always say that they were picking on a disabled person shame on them!
I have two of the newish gun belts that don't bend. It would make a great club. I also have a kubotan on my keys. I actually had a class on how to use it back in the 80's. And I was gifted with a tac pen last year. I like your ideas.
Totally forgot about the Kubaton. I was trained with them back then, too. We cops had the Mini-Mag flashlights on our belts at all times and they doubled well as Kubatons.

There's a scene in the movie The Bourne Identity that shows just how lethal a pen can be. Even though this advice doesn't apply to me, people in different countries could truly benefit from this video. ✊
Fun fact: there are two reasons why a flashlight might be illegal in Europe:
1) it's too bright and can blind people
2) it's too much of a weapon with the jagged surface.
The main problem however is not that you have not the right to defend yourself, but the law will always be interpreted against you!
In simple terms, if you defend yourself with a weapon, then they ask why you were armed in the first place, and if you were looking for trouble, rather than defending yourself...
The best worst example I can give you happened in a place I used to study: An amateur boxer with a long history of violent crimes attacked without any known reason a father with his son. He was much stronger and knocked both of them out and then jumped repeatedly on the head of the father. The son woke up, took out his Swiss Army Knife with a 2-inch blade, and poked him literally in the rear. Surprisingly, this scared the assailant away and saved his dad's life. I say surprisingly, because most of the time, people underestimate the damage a knife can cause, especially when they're high as a kite... In court, the boy was punished harsher than the criminal, because the latter was too high to be considered sane and legally liable. It was held against the boy that he attacked from behind and without warning.
Sadly, there are many such stories in many countries. There are many versions of people being injured in home invasions by armed assailants and managing to turn the tides with a legal weapon and still being charged for attempted murder, or at the very least excessive violence as if you could talk down the people who are actively trying to murder you...

Yes, those tac-pens are great. I carry one at all times. I find that scalp wounds bleed profusely and serve as a great disorienting injury. A tac-pen strike to the forehead is debilitating, too.
Ladies may wish to carry a can of hairspray in their pocket to use as a weapon. The more sadistic ladies may want to add a cigarette lighter to their self-defence arsenal to make the perfect 'hair spraying flame-thrower'. All legal and above board in Merry England.
Nail file, insect repellent spray, peroxide in a spray bottle also hairspray, comb, cayenne pepper in a shaker/bottle.

When flying, I carry a set of chopsticks in my backpack. The kind with the rounded ends. Get them free at any Chinese restaurant. Keep them in the paper sleeve. Maybe sharpen the ends a bit. Never been a problem at Security.
Improvised weaponry, in my opinion, becomes very useful in a tight spot. Just develop a mindset where you can see the combat/defense capability in things around you.
One thing I started doing after seeing a large number of robberies taking place outside of gas stations, is whenever buying a drink, usually a monster or Red Bull, I’ll make sure to get it bagged. A Metal can in a plastic bag becomes a one shot flail very easily and it more than likely will bust the bag on first contact but if it’s a head shot it won’t matter because you’ve already leveled the playing field.
I saw people mention the padlock and bandana. Key thing to remember, those are illegal and considered weapons in a lot of places due to their association with gangs.
A monkey fist is another good flail option. Now, states laws determine legality when it’s tied around a metal core, others say “solid core.” A bouncy ball is perfect replacement for a metal core and if “solid core” is the issue, you can tie the knot tight enough that it is still helpful if tied tight enough and solid enough. It can be attached to anything for quick access.
A solid metal chain necklace, like the out of style ball bearing necklaces, are very capable for swinging and wrapping around your fist. The other accessory, the old school chain wallet, a watch, or thick chain bracelet. (All of these were actually, except the watch, banned from my high school and a lot of other schools when I was nearly 2 decades younger due to people using them like weapons. Same as studded belts.)
I’ve been hit with a lot of random things while at concerts and bars and I’ve had to return the favor a couple times becomes bouncers or security wasn’t there to help. Literally anything can be a weapon. I saw a girl stab another girl with a nail file.
When I was in my 20's and doing field work by myself, my Mom asked me to make sure I always had my rock hammer with me and to not be afraid to use it if necessary. Never did have to use it on anything but rocks, but it was always with me

I have found that most tactical pens will not allow me to 'get my thumb behind them'. And, as an international traveler, I use the Zebra F-70-1 and the M-701... Stainless shank, pointed, and I can get my thumb behind them. Great vid - I love the idea of the key!

Here in Canada we are NOT allowed to carry weapons. Guns have been essentially banned. And you could never carry a firearm here ever. If you were carrying anything here and said that you were carrying it for the purpose of Self Defense. You would probably be charged and arrested. You can't carry something for Self Defense purposes because that indicates you are carrying a weapon. Self Defense is within our Law but it is frowned upon.
We have a case not far from me. A store clerk was being robbed by a guy with a BaseBall Bat. He hit the clerk with the bat multiple times. The clerk fought back. He took control of the bat and hit the robber with it. The robber ran and got away. I think the police caught the guy later. But they laid charges of assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon on the store clerk. Arrested him and took him to jail. Our Laws are upside down here.
Talking about Tactical Pens. They are generally identified at a distance, mostly in the way people carry them. Usually clipped on to a pocket in the same manner as a folding knife. They tend to look aggressive as well. And in some places they are illegal.
I carry a pen everyday. It's as good as a Tactical version. You can buy this pen almost anywhere. It's called a Zebra F-701. It's all Stainless Steel, it comes with a fine point ink cartridge. What I do is buy a package of two of their Medium tipped cartridges. I like the thicker writing point.
I have a few F-701 models but the model I carry daily is an upgraded version. It's called the F-xMD. It costs a little more than the standard unit as there are some slight differences. The MD version has a thicker barrel for one thing. The 701 is about ten dollars here and the MD is a little more. I got the upgrade off of Amazon. And for the ink cartridge I installed a Space Pen Cartridge. It's a bit sticky when clicking the point in and out but it works okay.
I have carried my pen for years. But a couple of years ago a Navy SEAL wrote a book about Urban Survival and recommended the 701 model. Because it looks like a regular pen. Writes like a regular pen but can be lethal.
Although weapons are not allowed, I carry all kinds anyway. The only time anyone will know about it. Is if I am put in a situation where I have to use one of my EDC weapons. I plan on surviving even if our screwed up Law would prefer that I am a Blood Dot on the pavement that they have to scrape up.
One of the best weapons that I can recommend anyone use. In particular Women. Is a weapon that is available in most countries. It's usually fairly easy to get a hold of this weapon. You don't need any training to use it. You can use it at arms length so your attacker isn't necessarily close to you. And this weapon can easily disable more than one attacker giving you time to turn and run to safety. But you need an available pocket that's empty and within easy reach to carry the weapon. The name of this weapon is Dry Sand. It's devastating when thrown in the face.
I carry a Flashlight in a carry pouch that has a belt loop. It sits on my right side giving me fast easy access. I have a lot of different types. Some bigger with the Tactical edges at both ends designed to inflict wounds.
Although they are NOT allowed here I have a couple of Fast Strikes. Non-Lethal Defense weapons that are similar to a Whip. They are fashioned from metal cabling. Home Depot sells it in different gauges. You can make your own. It can be put in a pocket and run it down your leg through a hole in your pocket. You can put it through your belt loops and clip it to the front of your pants for quick easy access. It works really well.
I also carry at times, depends where I'm going. A Collapsible Baton. I have a couple of them but I really prefer the 26 inch version. It affords you a little more distance from any attacker. These work really well and they do generate a fear factor. Train with this tool and you can become very effective when using it. A couple of good solid whacks in the legs/knees will give you time to run.
I made these spikes that I can lace up on my shoes. They are lethal when used to kick with. I spray painted them black to match my shoes/boots and you can't see them even in daylight. And you can always spread something on the spikes if needed. If you can't buy it, make it. I have other things I carry from time to time. It depends on the time of the year, where I'm going, what I will be doing and what I'm going to be wearing.
As a kid I remember the Bic pen add that they shot the pen through a board and it still wrote.

Add a pair of inexpensive work gloves for grip. I feel more confident holding my mini bat shaped flashlight in my cheap True Grip gloves from the dollar store!
Always know your surroundings and nature can supply you with a lot of defensive things, sharp sticks or a rock. One thing that a lot of people carry is an umbrella and it can work very well!

I've got less hair than you ,but always carry a comb . Pushed into where the nose meets the top lip is a great deterrent ,could give you vital seconds to retreat .

Good advice. I have just turned 70 and the last year has not been a good one health-wise, I'm finally coming to the realization that I am no longer the 25 year old my mind likes to think I am ! I live in the UK, so we are not "allowed" to protect ourselves. From now on my "Taclight" will be ever present and I'm going to look into a pen, something in each pocket then. As in another video, Awareness is key, always has been. I was sucker punched once in my teens - I learned quick. Another sub and look forward to more useful advice, Thanks Dude.
Excellent content here! For me, the tactical pen has been an option of mine for "years"! My favorite is the all black, solid aluminum Boker tac pen! It even WRITES!!! It's actually my first 'go too' tool in an altercation. A very effective force multiplier that can either give you distance, or time to deploy something a bit more serious. For me, the tac pen is an excellent option to have. It works! Great video here Daniel...

Excellent video, brother. There's a reason some of these items are used in horror or gore movies. Pens and pencils and keys can do a LOT of damage in the right place, at the least they'll buy you time to get the upper hand or get away. I always carry one of those little cord-like emergency-kit saws (it looks like a toothed string with a key ring on each end), also, and while it might not loot like much danger, if it can saw wood (and they can, I've actually used one to saw an old dresser into a small coop when I first got a couple chickens) then they can certainly hurt an attacker's wrist or back of their neck, or leg, etc. And the stunning power of a bright light suddenly in your eye is exactly the reason cops always approach cars at night with a light right on the driver's face. Also, never underestimate the power of a stray stick on the ground, it can be used to give the illusion of being stabbed which could stagger an attacker, and it is most effective against a neck or groin or the face.
Another thing I love to keep on hand not only for my lips but also just in case is a tube of chapstick. If you make your own, that's even better because you can add in oils that will greatly impair vision. Caps are generally easy to pop off with your thumb, and then you can just jab the chapstick itself in the eyes of your attacker (if you're face-to-face). Oils like peppermint, cinnamon, tea tree work really well as they sting the heck out of eyes if you get those even near. You can also infuse cayenne pepper in some oil (like Dollar Store coconut oil; just pout a bunch of cayenne into the coconut oil and let it sit in the sun for a day or two) and keep that in a chapstick tube in your purse or pocket when ever you're out alone. Coconut oil melts on contact with human skin (melting point is around 70 degrees or so) which will instantly coat the eye with cayenne. The oil will blur sight, and the the cayenne literally burns like Hell.
As much as I agree and support the message behind this video and the intent behind all of that.
It still remains the same and in a court be that a civil claim by your victim or criminal by the state/Crown etc could and most probably would be argued that, "if you buy an item with the express purpose of using it (at any time) as a weapon, then no matter what it says on the label, or how long has passed since you bought it, it is a weapon in your eyes as the buyer and when you use it you are using it for the exact purpose you bought it, as a weapon."
The logical definition of weapon is something used to inflict harm or damage, and there is no other alternative description of what a weapon is, and the plan to use it as a weapon is its design not only aesthetically but also the motives, intent, thought and actions behind its purchase constitute to its plan and design to be a weapon.
There is no escaping this. Be mindful of that.
Because if I were to face such a case in court that is exactly how I would execute my argument, that it may be a key or torch or pen upon casual inspection, but when we apply motives intent (design) we are faced with a weapon intended to cause harm or damage.
So please be mindful of your legal position.
Also, I don't think there is a country that does not permit self-defence. Everywhere allows you to use self-defence, just read the international humanitarian law it is clear that everywhere allows self-defence. How much or how far you can go or under what circumstances may differ, but that does not mean you are not allowed to use self-defence.
I'm from the UK and I here brits saying all the time we are not allowed to use self-defence or similar. This is total nonsense.
Everyone has the right in uk law to defend themselves, their family, friends or total strangers, and property, not just their own but any property.
The caveat in law between defence and assault is the exclamation of your intent, to who and when.
If you find yourself involved in physical confrontation for whatever reason and you've "fought off" another to protect person or property and police have arrived, you MUST TELL POLICE IMMEDIATELY that you acted in self-defence.
This changes the direction of the police investigation by law.
The duty of the crown (prosectution) is now to PROVE YOU DID NOT ACT in self-defense. That is an almost impossible case to prove. ALWAYS GET A LAWYER if you are arrested. But tell police before you are charged you acted in self-defence even if you've not got a lawyer yet.
Self-defence is a protected right in human rights law and any country in the UN (BASICALLY ALL OF THEM BAR TWO) have agreed to human rights laws. Of which the right to defend oneself, ones home, ones nation (israel-palestine excuses), is protected and expected in a civilised society.

My mama, and at one time, we were in a very dangerous situation. She taught me anything in your reach can be used as a weapon. You have to get the thought out of your head you are afraid to fight or hurt the other person. She taught me not to stop until the other person does not move. Mom's gone on to glory, from natural causes, but her memories, wisdom, and knowledge lives on.
Regarding a pen for defense ; the common Bic pen's first ad showing it's strength was firing one from a lever action rifle (circa the 1950's) penetrating a board . Yes , it will hurt your hand , but used as you held the key you will stand a better chance of going home . It is okay to be vicious in defense .
as a former prison guard, I always carried a nice metal large flashlight, a good metal pen and set of keys with an old car key that was a nice fit between my figures. We were not allowed to carry weapons, CO spray or,later, cell phones. Prisons have ' dead zones" you learn real fast where they are and keep your 'tools' in hands reach. Only Sgts, LTs and Tack sqauds were allowed OC spray and tasers. It Worked the same when I became a jailer at our Sheriffs' office. Only Sgts, Lts and road deputys had weapons, OC and tasers there too.

For those folks who said that, consider this: all of the cool martial arts weapons from places like China started out as farming implements/tools because the peasants were not allowed to have regular weapons like sword or spears. They just applied their imagination to their tools.
Here's one you didn't mention: belt.
If you've got a couple of minutes warning, you can take off your belt and wrap it around your fist several times like a set of brass knuckles made of leather. This will boost your punching power. Since your fist will be protected, you can hit harder.
Here's another: coins.
There's the old standby of holding a roll of coins in your fist to support your fist, making it more effective for punching. But not everyone can carry around a roll of coins.
However, throwing a handful of loose coins in someone's face can make a great distraction, allowing you to prep something else with which to fight.
Still another: ring.
If you wear a diamond ring, turn it around so that the diamond is on the inside. Then when you slap someone, the diamond can scratch your opponent. And if you can slap them across an eye, you can blind them in that eye. Plus, it will hurt like @#%%&!
I carry a compact...fit in the hand cattle prod. It emits about 15 hundred volts, I figure it's gonna give me enough time to move out of the way. Our weapon laws here in Australia are pretty tight, so you need to become inventive, in saying that I do carry one of those tactical pens also. They're compact and would do the job well.
