Six years later and I've kind of changed my mind on this. Their lyrics and instrumentals are super basic but their composition is actually really good.
I especially hate when people say their fans of grunge because they heard a couple Nirvana songs, despite not even knowing bands like Pearl Jam,Soundgarden, and Mudhoney.
Fog812 8 that's becausse they are not they are geniuses i dont know how pink floyd is on the list specially in his list because music is his favorite thing ever (i suppose) im so dissapointed in him but is his opinion and i respect that but still dissapointed
Probably because everyone looks st dark side of the moon... I think alot people come to a broad assumption with poorly given information or attempt and stick with that.
@@TheKestevon they have many different atmospheric aspects behind their music! Piper at the gates of dawn was of it's own.. David Gilmour filled in mostly afterwards and had a much more flow rather then what piper had, All great in their own. One love my friend
I'd remove Pink Floyd from the list. I don't think they're overrated at all. I'm going to state a few reasons why. First, every one of their songs had a meaning. Second, I don't find them mainstream at all. Sure they have some mainstream songs like Another Brick In The Wall, but most of their songs are not mainstream. Dogs, for example, is one of the most underrated songs ever! I agree with most of what you said, though. When people see you with a Pink Floyd shirt, they automatically think you do drugs. That's because of their musical experimentation and amazing sound effects. Even without drugs, you lose yourself in their music (if you know how to listen to it). I can't even imagine what it would be like with drugs. I'd remove The Beatles from the list, too. But I think you make a lot of good points.
The Beatles are overrated for their music (songs). They simply were not the greatest musicians, more like a boy band. But they are not overrated for their contribution to the development of popular music, because they were basically the first band that achieved worldwide popularity and completely changed popular music in the US in the 60s.
elena79rus OK, you have your good points concerning The Beatles. Beatlemania wasn't mainly achieved due to their music. This was more like a phenomenon. And before I react to your other points, I have to state that I am a Beatles fan. The Beatles can be considered one of the greatest musicians because they were innovative, had an extremely fast progression in their career time and can not be seen just as a boy band. Innovative means that they always tried to do something new, playing new instruments as the sitar, covering every possible style at that time, notably the proto-metal sound of Helter Skelter or McCartney's bass lines which influenced subtlely all future bass players with its new melodical style, other than basic bass playings or the walking bass. Progression meant that they published one album a half-year until Sgt. Pepper. In total that means that there are 13 albums (of which is one EP) in a timespan of only 8 years, with 14 tracks on each. Boy band is in my opinion a term with slightly negative connotation: The Beatles were not a boy band because unlike today's "boy bands" they wrote their own songs. They also played their instruments on a refined level. 188 of 213 Beatles songs were originals. You should form your opinion after having checked out the playlist "Why The Beatles are awesome" on my channel. If you are not convinced, ok, but give the Beatles a chance. Covers of their songs can be very slushy and with a basic knowledge of music - on the other hand, they can be detailed and very authentic. Cheers!
Kiss maybe are overrated on Lp,,live they are awesome,,The Who & Deep Purple are similar their awesome Live ,,but their patchy with their studio material Deep Purple are rather worn out Live these Days I wish Gillan would end it..
kadeee1000 These days, seeing Purple live would most likely be far less than it was back in the seventies. Gillan did 4 great albums from 70- 73. The BURN album with Coverdale was great too. And even the Mark I psychedelic rock stuff with Rod Evans showcased great musicianship in that band. Just sayin, Deep Purple belongs in there with Zeppelin and Sabbath, definitely more so than kiss.
STAGG NATION yes I would agree Purple in their heyday were untouchable,,even with Evans,,if you text deep purple playboy hush in youtube they play hush with Hugh Heffner its amazing its about 1968 it shows what a great act they were..
kadeee1000 I just went to a KISS concert. It was a major disappointment. The show was good, but the sound was really bad, and they did not even play their biggest hits. Many people left long before the concert was over. Well, at least Def Leppard played before them and were great (something I had not expected), so my money did not go to waste.
Being past their prime is not the same as being overrated. AC/DC deserve all the credit they get because of what they achieved in their early years (1975-81) WITHOUT experimenting.
The problem with Nickelback fans? Well how would you like it if everybody keep saying the band you like is the worst, and should die, and isn't music, and fans have no taste, and marketing is the only reason they sell...blah blah blah. I get that Nickelback have huge musical problems, like their repetitiveness, but is that any reason to call them the worst band ever and say shit about the fans for years on end? And then you complain about the fan's reaction?
I just have to say this: Metallica fans are the most stupid, most delusional, most full of shit fan base ive ever argued with in music. This isn't a reply to what you said, I'm Js I saw your pic and had to comment that. Not necessarily at you tho.
Travis Brimstone Nope. I think that linkin park fans are the worst. "old lp fans" and "new LP fans" never seem to get along. Although I don't have much interaction with Metallica fans all that much.
Travis Brimstone Not really, Linkin park still sells concerts out compeletly. and there are a LOT of people who think that LP is the best, I mean, they are my favorite but I'm not gonna call you a faggot because you don't like them.
IMO there should be different categories, overrated and overplayed. My short list for each would be: Overplayed but not necessarily overrated: Pink Floyd Queen The Beatles Led Zeppelin Boston Elton John Overrated by any measure: U2 Bon Jovi Sex Pistols Pantera AC/DC Kiss Foreigner Pretty much any grunge band Grateful Dead The worst/most overrated modern band is bar none Imagine Dragons. I cannot stand these guys! I hate their muddy production. I hate their instrumentation and songwriting. I hate their singer. They have nothing to say. I could understand their popularity if they were at least danceable but they’re not. How is this group so popular right now?!
I understand how AC/DC could be considered overrated. However if you listen you their first like 6 or 7 albums you will realize how amazing they really are. Unfortunately the radio only plays a few of their hits. They have tons of other great songs
Overrated means the band isn't as good as people say they are, just because a lot of people say a band is good, doesn't mean they are overrated unless they don't deserve that. I'm sure you understand this point so I trust you'll take the Beatles and Pink Floyd of this list. mug
About damn time someone said it! Well, maybe it was & I didn't see it, but yeah, technically everything is overrated at some point to someone! So who gives a f*** what others think & we all just stick with what we personally like & ignore the s*** we don't! That's just way too easy though, & some ppl absolutely have to try to convince others that their opinion is wrong, otherwise they can't have one! Humans just need the conflict, I guess!lol
all they did was make people want to start bands EG led zeppelin , The Rolling stones The beatles are shit they WERE the first to do it but are still shit compared to bands today
I agree completely. Nothing against Kurt Cobain but the guy has been labeled a god by many, and it's so annoying. His hardcore fans will defend that to their deaths, and they don't even realize he wouldn't like them calling him a god.
@@stevencastaneda9932 the mars volta and the smashing pumpkins are pretty much tied for my top spot. the mars volta has the longevity to keep wowing me even though i’ve been listening to them for so long and the smashing pumpkins just really hits me emotionally like no other band. some other bands in my absolute favorites list are brand new, neutral milk hotel, my chemical romance, car seat headrest, and (the many variations of) silver mt zion. you?
I don't think when something is overrated, it automatically means it's bad. Yeah nirvana is overrated, but it's a pretty damn good band, but there's bands that deserve more than nirvana, like Pearl Jam, the pixies. And I think that's why people get angry so much about it.
Fucking Sublime, Poison and Bon Jovi. The band Aerosmith isn't really overrated, just a select few songs. Dream on, Walk this Way, any of their 80's ballads completely overrated. Still one of my favorite bands nonetheless.
Saying Nirvana is overrated is complete BS. Yes, their songs are very simple, Kurt wasn't the greatest guitar player out there. But most people don't realize this is one of the MAJOR reasons why Nirvana is such an amazing band. Kurt Cobain could take the most basic notes/chords and turn it into an awesome song. He didn't need 2-3 minute long guitar solos. Not to mention he was a fantastic lyricist. Also, Dave Grohl is one of the greatest rock drummers in history. Nirvana is easily the best/most influential american band of the last 30 years
Even though "Nevermind" is Nirvana's most classic album, I believe Cobain's songwriting skills peaked on "In Utero". Listen to the songs and look up the lyrics on that album. They are amazing.
Oh come on, they are massively over rated, they weren't remotely close to being the best grunge band, pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and others where significantly more musically talented and wrote more compelling songs. Nirvana only went huge because teh record companies pushed then as hard as they could. As anyone who isn't a die hard Nirvana fan knows, it turned out Cobain wasn't even the most talent member of his own band let alone his era like some of his fans try to claim.
hammerhiem75 Completely subjective question if they wrote more compelling songs or not. As Nirvana sold more, I'd say they made the more compelling music?
I don't know if I put Nickelback here. They already have a ton of haters. Nirvana-I'll agree to some extent. I don't see them making a Jimi Hendrix level album (not even Nevermind, sorry) and In Utero felt like a step back. I knew they were trying to go back to their roots, but it didn't break out. Beatles- I'll give them a pass because of their experimentation of their later work. Kiss-It's just clever marketing by putting your face on everything you can and having fireworks at your concert. They have some pretty fun tunes, but that's about it. I'd add Fall Out Boy to this list. What have they done besides copy Green Day and Blink 182? And with the same pop-punk voice, the same look and they don't stand out from the rest of the "punk" bands.
But you see, a band can be hated and still be overrated. Like Nickelback are very popular but they still have a lot of haters. Whether a band is overrated only measures the people who like them, not the people who dislike them
I love the Beatles, probably my second favorite band behind Eagles. I could see overrated at certain times mainly if people listen to Love Me Do and Hey Jude and that type of stuff but Helter Skelter and While My Guitar Gently Weep and Come Together are masterpieces in my honest opinion. AC/DC is overrated in my opinion, it's the same crap over and over.
austin angler AC/DC is the same thing over and over? Clearly your comments are those of an individual who hasn't done his listening. Of course there's a sameness to some of the band's songs. However, that doesn't take away from the band's intensity of delivery. In short, if you don't like AC/DC, you ain't listening the right way. DO yourself a favor and get in the weight room with Powerage playing loud.
+austin angler You're obviously a guy who only listened 3 AC/DC songs, go listen to "Walk all over you", "The Razor's Edge" and "Stiff Upper Lip" and tell me they sound the same...
Ignorant comment. Not saying Nirvana were the greatest band in the world when it came to song-writing, but them changing music is a fact. They're the ones that made alternative rock a thing.
***** You're forgetting that Nirvana launched Grunge into popularity and there's a reason we're still talking about them. Kurt's lyrics also have a lot of meaning to them and just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it's not there. And I'll agree that he's not the best guitar player or the best singer, but Nirvana deserve a little more credit than what you're giving them.
+DW'89Music Thats just ridiculous. Obviously post-grunge happened because of grunge. But "emo" was always around even when Nirvana were huge. Pop-punk came due to bands like Green Day, Offspring, Bad Religion, Rancid, etc. Mallcore happened because of bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit.
This guy is obviously intelligent and it is important for me to listen to other's opinions. However, there is no way that Nirvana is overrated. In 1989 they released "Bleach" and that album was more lyrically and musically meaningful than most of what came out at the time, Chad Channing's uneven drumming notwithstanding. "Nevermind" and its fans were not emotionally moved for nothing. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is fuckin' devastating - even to this day! Listen with your heart and not your head.
Matthew Anthony you’re pathetic. Kurt Cobain is probably one of the best, if not the greatest song writers and singers of all time but I can’t sadly agree he wasn’t a master at guitar.
Coming from someone who enjoys their music very much: The New York Dolls. Sure they were awesome, down-breaking and influenced both punk and glam rock but god are their fans obnoxious about it! Especially when you realize that their whole music was based on the talent of Johnny Thunders. I mean, even among the die hard fans, who gives an ape's crap about David Johansen? It's more of a cult of personality than actual music enjoyment. Same goes with The Ramones and The Sex Pistols.
I'm getting a bit tired of the AC/DC criticism. Yes, a lot of their songs sound similar to eachother, but i wouldn't say that's necessarily a bad thing. Their songs sound similar because AC/DC has such a unique trademark sound that no other band can replicate. I can't think of many people who have come up with better riffs than Angus Young. And he is actually an amazing guitar player. Yes, many of the riffs consist of simple power chords, but as long as it sounds great, it's fine with me. Angus is one of the greatest soloists out there. AC/DC isn't as good as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or the Beatles, and very few believe they are, but i'd easily rank them among the 10 greatest rock bands ever, probably 6, 7 or 8th. What drags them down the most is probably their lyrics. Now, i might get some stick for this, but i think Queen is vastly overrated. Their lyrics are very weak, and there is no emotion to their music. I mean, some of their most famous songs are "we will rock you", "we are the champions", "crazy little thing called love" and "you're my best friend". And i can't think of one really great Queen album. I can probably name 5 albums of Led Zep, PF, The Beatles or the Rolling Stones that are better than Queen's best album. I'm not saying Queen is a bad band. In fact, i'd probably name them in my top 10, but so many people rate them as highly as the great four mentioned above, and that is utterly ridiculous.
Sondre I don't think you know Queen entire catalogue, it is simpler to spend years playing the same style like Ac/Dc and zep, almost never risking anything, and I really think Queen are better than Rolling Stones
Then they shouldn't have signed a record contract if he didn't want money or be famous. Should have stayed a bar band playing for like 30 people. Kurt wasn't a good guitar player I know new players that are better then him. They aren't a terrible band but why overhyped. Only good thing to come from nirvana was Dave grohl
The Beatles pre-LSD: Overrated, nothing that interesting The Beatles LSD era: Amazing, underrated (apart from Hey Jude) e.g. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter, Come Together, and I Want You (She's So Heavy) P.S I would like to add Queen. They are getting so many annoying fans after the movie (which isnt even historically correct, it's just a fiction in the name of a biography), and they are EVERYWHERE. Every single video about music, "Where is Queen??!!" "HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO FREDDIE UWU". Its ok to have a favorite band but acting like Queen is the best band in the whole world and all the other bands suck is just stupid. And when they can't compare a musician from another band to a queen member, THEY LITERALLY COMPARE THEIR FUCKING PERSONALITIES. Queen "fans" really need to branch out and listen to other bands. These so-called "fans" don't even know the names of any other Queen member other than Freddie and they cant name any other songs other than Bohemian Rhapsody and I Want To Break Free. And let's not forget the fact that they SHIP BANDMATES TOGETHER. And the fact that they have to say darling at the end of every single sentence they say, or say something like, "Freddie would have said this....." "Freddie would have said that......" like stfu stop trying to copy him and be who you are. Not hating on Queen, they ARE one of the best bands, it's just that the fans are really annoying
*overrated bands:* The Rolling Stones The Who David Bowie U2 Prince Madonna Michael Jackson The Clash Iron Maiden Dio Soundgarden Audioslave AIC Pearl Jam Temple of the Dog Tool A Perfect Circle Metallica Guns n Roses Motley Crue Queensryche Faith No More/Mike Patton Pink Floyd is good but overrated in some ways Dream Theater Journey(not horrrible but overrated) Duran Duran Bob Dylan Neil Young Bob Marley Eric Clapton Def Leppard KISS
Alecin Solidarity So now tell me why GNR are overrated? The only reason i can approve is that they have small catalogue of songs. Appetite is fucking amazing album, Illusions are both very good with badass tracjs like Coma or Lovomotive (guess you never heard that songs) and one of the most underrated albuns ever Chinese Demecracy. Agree with nirvana tho, cobain sucks
You did an excellent job articulating yourself. It's obvious that you took time to listen to overrated music to formulate a well informed opinion; instead of just saying "that band sucks "
The Beatles' early material is actually pretty challenging to play on guitar. Definitely cannot be compared to any modern pop band. They invented the rock band and with "Please Please Me" the rock album as we know it. Every song they had sounded completely different and unique compositionally. They were using chords that were uncommon in pop and rock music.
I can listen to hundreds of bands and still think that The Beatles are overrated. They're not a BAD band. I never said that. It's just that there are better bands out there.
How are people saying that KISS is overrated, yet EVERYONE and I mean EVERRRYYYONEEEE hates them. Like more people express hate towards them than Nickleback. Everywhere I go, someone expresses hate towards KISS. maybe it's something you gotta dive deeper into with their deeper early cuts to fully appreciate them. As a guitar player, they're musically better than Nirvana, Green Day, AC/DC. So what, they sing about fucking and rock and roll, which everyone did in the 70s. They're not the greatest band ever, whoever says that is not very right. Sure they sold out a lot, and most of that had to do with Casablanca Records in the 70s (which were a disco label and were used to the "sell sell sell" thing). Sure Gene is a dick, I get it. Everyone hates him. But I think people should dive a little bit deeper into KISS and stop looking on the surface. That's just my opinion though, as someone who used to think KISS wasn't all that great before
Beside those mentioned so called big bands that are absolutely overrated are Metallica(50% of their album sales were due to the only reason that they had metal in their name or due to Enter sandman on MTV),Slipknot,Korn(all nu metal thing), ,Radiohead,Queen..
I understand it. Pink Floyd music is definitely stoner music (particularly their songs from 'The Wall'). 'Comfortably Numb' is the perfect song to listen to high.
Pink floyd? Why because the only song you've actually listened to is another brick in the shitty wall? Listen to the dark side of the moon all the way through several times.
I've had the album since I was a kid. Never cared for it. It is atmospheric I'll give you that, but I think it's insanely overrated. It's filled with ambience, weird stuff, and songs that are just really really boring. It s comes off as an album that tries to be outside the box and different, but it seems a bit over pretentious in my opinion. I can see how it can be an art album, but it does absolutely nothing for me. The only PF song I ever liked at all was "Wish You Were Here" which is a fantastic song. Btw, I am a huge fan of Zeppelin, The Who and Dream Theater, so saying I don't appreciate "progressive" or "classic rock" is wrong. PF just doesn't do anything for me.
I love the kids who think Metallica is the greatest thing ever and if you don't like them then you like emo music. 2 things kid: metallicas a joke to real metalheads, 2: who do u think inspired asking Alexandria? Slipknot ? Metallica was the most influential band of the 90s. So..
Right from the start, I'm a bit frustrated. When a band like Disturbed holds a steady sound, without making allot of changes, but still. retaining high quality, its apparently bad. But when a band, let's use Metallica as an example, changes their sound not for better or worse, but just makes a change, it is also bad? don't get me wrong, St. Anger and Load/ReLoad were undeniably a downgrade in quality, but people hate on the black album just as often, when it is still the same high quality music, just less of a thrash sound and more of a heavy metal sound.
robert holden in Bloom, lounge act, breed, on a plain, Polly, all apologies, Tourette’s, sappy, milk it, Heart Shaped Box, scentless Apprentice, radio friendly unit shifter... just to name a few
No hate here, but I have to say, calling Nirvana overrated is becoming overrated. In fact, Nirvana and a few other bands are going the other direction, being overlooked and underrated because of their status as an overrated band. Smells Like Teen Spirit is a good song, but it's not their best. In Utero is definitely a better album than Nevermind, and I even prefer Incesticide to their breakthrough. Point being, there's great material all over the place with this band, and it mostly goes undiscovered because of the shadow of Teen Spirit and an unfortunate suicide. Great records hidden behind preconceived notions? Starting to sound underrated to me. The proving ground is their first major tour. Mudhoney was the headliner at the beginning, starting in Europe. Mudhoney was preened by Sub-Pop to be the face of grunge. And they were certainly the more consistent band live. You knew what you were getting with them, and I'm personally a huge fan. Nirvana were very inconsistent, erratic, and often chaotic...sounds like rock n roll to me. Also, their songs were better. Kurdt's melodies were pretty, which contrasted and somehow enhanced the band's aggressive approach. Halfway through the tour, the bands switched places, and Nirvana became the headliner, which is basically unheard of. They were a darkhorse band from the start, with Rolling Stone once claiming that Blood Circus, of all bands, was the more likely breakthrough act. Their success was not inevitable, and if things hadn't worked out just so, we'd be talking about this great lost gem of a weird little punk band from Seattle. A very underrated little band.
no no no. Nirvana is not overrated. They had simple catchy songs...so if you are looking for super complex musicianship...then no, Nirvana isnt. No really cool guitar solos or anything. But Nirvana was a true, hard working, started from the gutter, Rock & roll band. Kurt cobain was a student of music. Obsessed with it. Incredible songwriter. He respected the classics and was influenced by a lot of important bands. Nirvana was in the right place at the right time and Kurt knew what to do. They did something really important in their time and it hasnt been done since...i don't even know if it can happen again. They were a band for the people. Young people can relate to nirvana and alice in chains and bands like that because they are coming from the same place. Not having enough money...drug problems...self esteem issues...that kind of stuff gets people through hard times in their lives. Yeah, its depressing and a bit whiny at times, but it is the truth. Its real. I dunno what Nickelback and Creed are singing about but they really suck. I was 11 or 12 when Kurt cobain killed himself, and I was really into Nirvana in '93 - '94 so maybe i'm biased, but i do not think they are overrated at all
Green Day. Definitely overrated. Nirvana, overrated. Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi, Journey, The Who (save a few good albums), The Beatles (save a few good albums), The Sex Pistols (one album with two goods songs), Pink Floyd (save Wish You Were Here, great album), Queen (save a few songs), The Grateful Dead, CCR, Jefferson Airplane, Lynyrd Skynyrd (after the plane wreck), Buffalo Springfield (one good song),The Beach Boys (save Pet Sounds) and finally, the one people LOVE to deny, Elvis. Chuck Berry and so many others did that early Rock N Roll stuff better than Elvis.
I have. I can see why people like him, and he was definitely a special talent. I don't particularly like his music, but that isn't why I think he is overrated. Hendrix just wasn't around long enough, and he doesn't have enough music to his name for him to be receiving so much praise; not only that, but people who aren't rock fans know very little about him--unlike AC/DC, Led Zepplin, or The Beatles. This is all just my opinion though.
How about Radiohead? By that I mean OK Computer..... what a mess of whiny, riffless, bullshit hype....The Bends, Kid A, and In Rainbows are all pretty great though.
In all honesty you get the fake fans who say they like the band when they only like 1 or 2 songs. Like I love AC DC and Nirvana they are one of my favourite bands and I have all of there cd's but I totally agree they are getting more attention than they should thanks to the fake fans.
Honestly, Kiss is one of my favorite bands, and I don't give a shit. In my opinion, up to 78 and parts of the 80s they are a great rock band that all have a great deal of talent. The original foursome is one of the best rock bands of all time in my opinion. I think people label Kiss with songs like Roxk and roll all nite and don't really listen to the songs like Black Diamond, 100,000 Years, and Parasite.
3/4 of the members and nominees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are grossly overrated. Almost any eligible band the Hall has never nominated is underrated.
How about underrated? The Melvins to my ears have always been metal but have been lumped in with grunge due to the nirvana connection. Sludge what ever you want to call them they really have no category that they really fit into...and that is cool as fuck.
I grew up with Zeppelin and Sabbath and Pink Floyd so I have a special place in my heart for those bands. But truthfully, all mainstream is overrated. lol
I didn't know that Nickelback was overrated. I didn't know it was even rated. Kiss have two studio album that I consider as good: The self-titled debut and Destroyer. Although their live album Alive was their key to sell albums, I think it is not one of the greatest live albums though. After the mid-80's Kiss haven't released an album that is worth a dime. If an album has one or two good songs, you could release only a single.
I am confused by what you consider overrated. To say Kiss is overrated is one thing if they won multiple or a single Grammy award or once had a positive album review in Rolling Stone or some credible publication. Kiss has never had any of this. Kiss is similar to early Jim Carrey movies. Bad movies, but really popular. Kiss became popular based on their live shows and it wasn't until Kiss Alive that people like me took notice. It then took off and the rest as they say is Kisstory. In the past 20 years you have the nostalgia and the parents kids have bred generations of Kiss fans. Throw in the number of musicians that look to Kiss and often Ace Frehley as their reason for getting into music. Kiss is popular with a rabid fan base. No matter how cheesy the lyrics, whoring out of merchandise, reality television or even swapping out band members they will continue to survive and thrive despite what any critic may think of them. Outrageously popular?..Yes, Overrated?...Nope.
@@TCsInspiredVlogs at least for me, it's not the bands, but their songs. Yea, I get without those "classic songs" a lot of bands wouldn't have formed, but at the same time, those "classic songs" leave all of the other b side songs in the dust
AC/DCs formula is trying to make an album that is as good as Back in Black. I love AC/DC but I completely understand where people are coming from. They are one of the best selling, and best charting rock bands of all time. Do other bands deserve that spot more? Yes, I DO think they are overrated but I still love em.
I could say Linkin Park, Metallica, Guns n Roses, And Green Day.but also don't get offended but Jimi Hendrix. and i do agree with the people wearing the t-shirts with Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and Bob Marley. you go up to a person with a pink floyd shirt and ask them to name 10 songs by pink floyd and they're answers will be Comfortably Numb, Wish you were here, or the wall. or surprisingly no answer, same thing with bob marley.
Really no band is overrated because for me no music is better than other music, yes I prefer bands to others but people should quit saying bands are the best and instead say a band is their favourite, yes radiohead is my favourite band but that by no means that they are better than any other like say another personal fav of mine steel panther
I like disturbed, I like five finger death punch, but god smack doesn't do anything for me. Nickelback forget it, and other bands I like are such as are 3 Doors down, Shinedown and nirvana, green day. All these bands I love.
Tool is a fucking overrated band not because of the band but because of the fans. The fans think they are smarter than the rest of us and think they have an IQ of 160 and above.
***** i can't agree with this statement more. The hits are insanely overrated, mainly because you're fortunate to hear only 1 or 2 of them in rotation at all. Classic rock radio has a real boner for Don't Stop Believin, but as a band, very underrated. Boston is another band in the same category.
Heres my overrated bands: 1. One Direction. 2. Avenged Sevenfold 3. Motley Crue. 4. Red Hot Chili Peppers. 5. Jimmy Hendrix. 6. Queen. 7. AC/DC 8.The Beatles 9. Nirvana
Now Nirvana is my favorite band of all time but I can agree they can be overrated because of the fans like you said but their music proves why they were so big and how Kurt Cobain talked to a generation like no one else
Nirvana is the greatest! All of they’re songs are great (including smells like teen spirit if you don’t think of how much it’s overplayed) and all of they’re very few albums are awesome!
It's hard to hear that Nirvana is overrated. In my eyes Nirvana has done no wrong, but I can definitely see where this guy is coming from. As much as I love "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I kinda cringe when its the only song played on the radio.
AC/DC overrated?? if anything they are the exact opposite, for the same reasons u said. All i hear about AC/DC is they only play 3 chords, all songs sound the same, it's boring blah blah. and then u get to the people in the band. Angus is soo underated it's crazy "he just does some bends, nothing special, Brian just screams, Phill can only play one beat, cliff can only play the root note, Malcolm can't even play a solo only play 3 chords". Some people say they are nobody and haven't done anything. Name ONE band that was in the same situation: just had their "big" breakthrough, then their singer dies and they go on to make an album not even a year later than becomes the second most sold album in history(yes i know some source say like number 5 or something, but it's definitely top 10) They also influenced many future bands like Metallica and Megadeth, and more recent band Airbourne. Overrated? i just aren't think that
People probably think it's all the same because they know like 3 songs. And just because Angus doesn't use wah or crazy whammy bar tricks doesn't mean all his solos are the same
Heres bands that I think are overrated: 1. Nirvana 2. Radiohead 3. Guns N Roses 4. Rolling Stones 5. AC/DC 6. Green day 7. Pink Floyed 8. The Beatles 9. Kiss
Thinker Mikhailov I love guns n roses, appetite for destruction was pretty overrated I didn't like it as much, but Use your Illusion I and II and some Chinese Democracy songs are so good like 14 Years, Better, and Coma
AC/DC with Bon SCott first albums are not overrated. They made such great rock &roll songs. But later their magic began to fade away. Like all bands do. Oldies are always the best.
"Nickelback is overrated"
Wouldn't they have to be well rated for that to be true?
Back in the day they were well rated. After How You Remind Me everybody loved them.
"Were", they were well rated, but now they aren't, so now they can't be overrated.
Over rated is a way of saying "I dislike X , but other people seem to like X. I don't think that's right"
so is Metallica and the new Megadeth and they should both break up.
chrisxdeboy nickelback are shit in general buddy

Six years later and I've kind of changed my mind on this. Their lyrics and instrumentals are super basic but their composition is actually really good.

Fog812 8 well that’s your opinion, in my opinion they are one of my faves but it’s his opinion.
Probably because everyone looks st dark side of the moon... I think alot people come to a broad assumption with poorly given information or attempt and stick with that.
@@rivverbonner3787 Also some people might think Floyd are overrated because all their song when they started singing sound like Dark Side of The Moon.
Cheers!
Pink Flyoyd sell out the biggest arenas in the world ,you can't say that they are not mainstream
Exactly
PF is not overrated at all in my opinion
Kurt Cobain did want the fame at first, but then after he became famous he realized nothing changed in his life. He still was depressed and hated life
That's one reason why I found their iconic smiley face logo highly ironic.
He was on drugs pretty heavily during his final years though.
Wasn't he also really down about the fame cuz he realised he couldn't do regular stuff anymore too?
Kiss was/is definitely over-rated. Deep Purple was underrated and should be in the hall of fame instead, regardless of all the lineup changes.

I love that pinkfloyd poster from their 60s era
I wasn't 100% agreeing with you on AC/DC, but Kiss, absolutely is overrated.
overrated how?......they have produced hit after hit after hit (thus warranting their status of "rated")
ACDC I try to like but ever fucking song sounds the same I 100% agree with him on the back in black part 2 shit

LP fans are too few. And no one even takes them seriously. ALOT of people actually think Metallica is the best band ever.
Travis Brimstone Not really, Linkin park still sells concerts out compeletly. and there are a LOT of people who think that LP is the best, I mean, they are my favorite but I'm not gonna call you a faggot because you don't like them.

Saying something is overrated is totally overrated
IMO there should be different categories, overrated and overplayed. My short list for each would be:
Overplayed but not necessarily overrated:
Pink Floyd
Queen
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Boston
Elton John
Overrated by any measure:
U2
Bon Jovi
Sex Pistols
Pantera
AC/DC
Kiss
Foreigner
Pretty much any grunge band
Grateful Dead
The worst/most overrated modern band is bar none Imagine Dragons.
The problem is all their albums sound the same. Compare them to literally any other quality band, they suck. No good variety.
@@scotchwhisky6094 I thought you were talking about The Beatles.
Overrated means the band isn't as good as people say they are, just because a lot of people say a band is good, doesn't mean they are overrated unless they don't deserve that. I'm sure you understand this point so I trust you'll take the Beatles and Pink Floyd of this list. mug

"The Beatles are the most overrated and underrated band of all time"
Overrated in the older days , Underrated in the modern days.
Beatles are highly praised in their later years.
Praised that I feel is deserved
Basically, their style overshadowed their substance, in the public eye.
That's why they're not underrated
I don't think when something is overrated, it automatically means it's bad. Yeah nirvana is overrated, but it's a pretty damn good band, but there's bands that deserve more than nirvana, like Pearl Jam, the pixies. And I think that's why people get angry so much about it.
Fucking Sublime, Poison and Bon Jovi. The band Aerosmith isn't really overrated, just a select few songs. Dream on, Walk this Way, any of their 80's ballads completely overrated. Still one of my favorite bands nonetheless.
Sublime is underrated.
No. Sublime is absolute shit.
AC/DC, Muse, Coldplay, Blink-182, Nirvana are so fuckin' overrated, but the most overrated one is Radiohead - such a shit
Nirvana is easily the best/most influential american band of the last 30 years
more than fantastic, actually. Even Nirvana/Kurt Cobain haters have to admit he was a great song writer
lol what do u mean like what? 90% of cobain's lyrics are amazing, plus fun to interpret.

AC/DC is overrated in my opinion, it's the same crap over and over.

AC/DC is the same thing over and over? Clearly your comments are those of an individual who hasn't done his listening. Of course there's a sameness to some of the band's songs. However, that doesn't take away from the band's intensity of delivery. In short, if you don't like AC/DC, you ain't listening the right way. DO yourself a favor and get in the weight room with Powerage playing loud.
The beatles sound like pop, not rock. And AC/DC is ond of ths few bands that stay in their roots.
When I mean by staying in their roots, I mean they are the type of band that keeps their music and doesn't change at all.
***** True! I mean stiff upper lip sounded like blues rock and The razors edge to some metal

***** yes!
+CineManiacs Nirvana were the biggest reason why pop-punk, emo, post-grunge and mallcore all came into existence.
It's sad, but Queen 's new fans are pushing this band to the group of overrated artists.
The point is . So what if they are overrated ? They make good quality music to entertain myself and that's good enough.
Smells Like teen Sprit is overrated, not nirvana!
Matthew Anthony nahh
Matthew Anthony your funny
Sondre Sayin that Ac/dc sound is hard to replicate sounds funny :)
The Metalhead and your name is metal head.. excuse me but it’s the style look into the early history dickhead

They already made all the money...
I do agree that they are not overrated. I never see anyone put them on their top 5 list of bands. Like never ever.
Why do people think Kurt Kobain is a martyr? He ate a fucking shotgun blast.
The Beatles pre-LSD: Overrated, nothing that interesting
The Beatles LSD era: Amazing, underrated (apart from Hey Jude) e.g. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter, Come Together, and I Want You (She's So Heavy)
P.S I would like to add Queen.

Guns N Roses is the mother ship of overrated bands.
As much as I love them.....Metallica
Well they haven't exactly released any music worth a dam since Cliff died.
It doesn't matter. Metallica fans are fucking delusional retards.
I love the kids who think Metallica is the greatest thing ever and if you don't like them then you like emo music. 2 things kid: metallicas a joke to real metalheads, 2: who do u think inspired asking Alexandria? Slipknot ? Metallica was the most influential band of the 90s. So..
Jorge G
I didn't say they were bad. I love Metallica, but they're overrated.
Metallica is the most overrated band in rock / metal
Right from the start, I'm a bit frustrated. When a band like Disturbed holds a steady sound, without making allot of changes, but still. retaining high quality, its apparently bad. But when a band, let's use Metallica as an example, changes their sound not for better or worse, but just makes a change, it is also bad? don't get me wrong, St. Anger and Load/ReLoad were undeniably a downgrade in quality, but people hate on the black album just as often, when it is still the same high quality music, just less of a thrash sound and more of a heavy metal sound.
What did Nirvana do besides "Lithium"? One trick pony in my book.
robert holden in Bloom, lounge act, breed, on a plain, Polly, all apologies, Tourette’s, sappy, milk it, Heart Shaped Box, scentless Apprentice, radio friendly unit shifter... just to name a few
Cobain was the original hipster. He wanted the fame and notoriety, he just couldn't handle it.
I would have to change the beatles they changed music for everybody in the whole fucking world
No hate here, but I have to say, calling Nirvana overrated is becoming overrated.
I was 11 or 12 when Kurt cobain killed himself, and I was really into Nirvana in '93 - '94 so maybe i'm biased, but i do not think they are overrated at all
Yes they are over rated. I don't give a rat's hairy ass if Kurt Cobain was a student of music, the end product is still over rated.
they arent overated at all just hipsters wear their shirts to look cool
5. nirvana
4. the rolling stones
3. guns and roses
2. tool
1. AC/DC
Put queen instead of Guns N roses

Okay, I take it back. After listening to it a few more times, I can confirm that Ok is pretty great.
Carolyn Fortson
Lol.
Sometimes people just hate what they don't understand.
Carolyn Fortson LOL
I think queen is overrated
Same
Me too, but I do like brian may's guitar playing. That's about it
How about underrated? The Melvins to my ears have always been metal but have been lumped in with grunge due to the nirvana connection. Sludge what ever you want to call them they really have no category that they really fit into...and that is cool as fuck.
kiss is completely overrated I consider them more of a pop rock band
I grew up with Zeppelin and Sabbath and Pink Floyd so I have a special place in my heart for those bands. But truthfully, all mainstream is overrated. lol
I didn't know that Nickelback was overrated. I didn't know it was even rated.
Kiss have two studio album that I consider as good: The self-titled debut and Destroyer. Although their live album Alive was their key to sell albums, I think it is not one of the greatest live albums though. After the mid-80's Kiss haven't released an album that is worth a dime. If an album has one or two good songs, you could release only a single.
hotter than hell is a decent album.
Yeah, so basically all the bands who become famous is overrated... lol
Yeah I guess ppl are fucked up nowadays its classic rock music without classic music their wouldn't be today's music
Yes, I DO think they are overrated but I still love em.
ledzepeling and bletles ares not overated... if you thing they are not heavy enough you cant say theya re overated
+RagingBull1929 exactly I asked some girl wearing a Pink Floyd shirt what her favorite song was and she said dark side of the moon.
lol (:
radiohead is nowhere near as good as everyone makes them out to be, extremely overrated
Bullshit.
I agree everyone says muse copied them but muse are fucking 10x better than them
T. Only listened to Creep
noooo
Harry Francis shut the fuck up 😂😂😂
ACDC? Actually, it's not easy at all to keep a similar sound and make different songs. It's hard. So you might wanna think a little about that.
Really no band is overrated because for me no music is better than other music, yes I prefer bands to others but people should quit saying bands are the best and instead say a band is their favourite, yes radiohead is my favourite band but that by no means that they are better than any other like say another personal fav of mine steel panther
Preach!!!
No, Tool sucks.
Sunglasses inside are overrated imo
i think journey is overrated
***** i can't agree with this statement more. The hits are insanely overrated, mainly because you're fortunate to hear only 1 or 2 of them in rotation at all. Classic rock radio has a real boner for Don't Stop Believin, but as a band, very underrated. Boston is another band in the same category.
Heres my overrated bands:
1. One Direction.
2. Avenged Sevenfold
3. Motley Crue.
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers.
5. Jimmy Hendrix.
6. Queen.
7. AC/DC
8.The Beatles
9. Nirvana
I pown Nirvana fangirls Never heard of "Jimmy Hendrix"
Bin Wheely You get what I mean.
Bin Wheely I think Nirvana is so overrated that they're even more overrated than The Beatles and I forgot to put them on my list.
Glad someone else shares my thoughts about AC/DC and KISS... especially KISS. Never understood what people are hearing that I'm not.
Now Nirvana is my favorite band of all time but I can agree they can be overrated because of the fans like you said but their music proves why they were so big and how Kurt Cobain talked to a generation like no one else
yeah
Then he died
"their music proves why they were so big" level of popularity doesn't mean a thing when most people are dumb when it comes to music.
Nirvana is the greatest! All of they’re songs are great (including smells like teen spirit if you don’t think of how much it’s overplayed) and all of they’re very few albums are awesome!
Someone who called Nirvana my favorite band wouldn't be expected to say it's overrated anyway. They are overrated
Overrated? i just aren't think that
Are you high? I can't go ANYWHERE without hearing one of their songs. They're EVERYWHERE
James McGill No i'm not on drugs.I NEVER hear AC/DC anywhere. They are never played in the mainstream radio at all. They are NOWHERE
People probably think it's all the same because they know like 3 songs. And just because Angus doesn't use wah or crazy whammy bar tricks doesn't mean all his solos are the same
AC/DC is not an overrated band to me. I like the Brian Johnson era more than the Bon Scott era because Brian has more powerful vocals than Bon.
agreed..AC/DC are rated highly because they fucking deserve to be
Heres bands that I think are overrated:
1. Nirvana
2. Radiohead
3. Guns N Roses
4. Rolling Stones
5. AC/DC
6. Green day
7. Pink Floyed
8. The Beatles
9. Kiss
+I Groundpound Nirvana fangirls I don't think hendrix is overrated.
Pontiac 86 Changed it to Radiohead.
I Groundpound Nirvana fangirls Okay. I can just about relate to that.
Fuck all Nirvana fangirls love your username haha.
