I just applied to my County’s Sheriff Department for a Deputy Sheriff Cadet position and I really hope to keep my city and county safe. I don’t mind all the ridicule and safety concerns because I want to help people and as a private security guard I want to take my career to the next level. ❤
Hello Commissioner, Thank you for all of these helpful tips! In regards to volunteering and giving back; just yesterday I donated blood via Canadian Blood Services! Definitely made me much happier to help my community & society in any shape or form. Further, if not for you guidance/tips I would have not thought about how I could give back or volunteer in such a meaningful way. Thank you once again! I will continue to train as I aspire to one day join the police force/service.
Great information. Thank you officer. It would really be helpful if you could share with us what skills are important and how to prepare for the interview. I know there is confidential information you can’t provide, but some tips can definitely help.
I'm a police officer in a city in VA. Let the interview be a conversation, it's nerve racking but knowing what your answers will be helps. The most important questions is why do you want to be a police officer. Don't blow that question and don't be basic. Everyone says "I want to serve and give back to my community". That won't cut it. Give them specific reasons why you want to be a police officer. As far as skills go. No one really has police skills going in. You will develop them as your career goes by. However the are looking for dedication, willingness to learn, cooperation and communication etc
Im facing a problem im not american but i’ve lived there a while and i really would like to be part of the police department of LA because this is what i wanted to do since i was 10 now im 19 im studying business management but i can assure you im so sad because of my decision ( this decision was made by my parents not me ) i would love to be part of the police department one day and im gonna achieve this goal
Honestly nothing wrong with getting a degree beforehand, life is long and a diploma can go a long way in several different professions, you’ve got time to finish your degree and then go into policing. There is also some valuable experience to be gained from it which can be useful in your future profession, so no rush.
Thank you, Mr. Randy, for the informative video. I agree that applicants must be fully prepared for the fitness test before pursuing a career in law enforcement. It can be a frustrating process that takes a toll on anyone. Physically, I believe I'm ready; I’ve been training intensely. However, when it comes to the beep test, my mental health becomes a barrier. That experience left me traumatized, and I haven’t been able to move past it. Perhaps this path isn’t meant for me.
@@OfficerArsenault This is life. I have no choice but to accept it. If it's mine, it will never go away. I don't want to give up, though. I'll keep working on myself. I'm human, so of course, sometimes I feel hopeless.
@@AnnaAnnieAnneofGreenGables The beep test is a fitness test to check how long you can run back and forth between two points before getting too tired. The test starts slow, but the beeps get faster, so you have to run quicker. To qualify for the police, you must reach at least stage 7 on the beep test. This demonstrates that you have the necessary endurance for the job. Many applicants twist their knees or hips during the test. So not that easy but it comes after good practice.
It is a test that comes with this warning: there is a chance that doing this exercise will cause one to rush to the restroom with an urgency to vomit and/or have a bowel movement.
Great question. There’s a lot to unpack and lots to consider, which is why I made a playlist called how to become a cop, and it covers what you’re asking and much more. I hope it helps. th-cam.com/play/PLhFQpJNoYaJmkPuP6Wvqads7iebLor-wl.html&si=TTfhDuLL6-17y2HN
So full disclosure here, I have known and worked with many police officers at CFB Suffield in the realm of CBRNE, interaction with the police is different in a training scenario than in real life, so Ive worked with the Toronto CBRNE team, the RCMP, US Marines, etc etc etc, but even after all that exposure to various police I still do not understand why CDN Police choose to call themselves Officers, rather than Constables, the RCMP call themselves members, again why? . Have we gone from Constable to Officer because of U.S influence? Also I am now old enough to remember when to be a metro cop all you needed was grade 10 and a certain height requirement (5’8 or 5’11) that was a long time ago when I took the class on a field trip to the Police Museum at the old 51 division. Not sure if that museum still exists but I have pictures of the various crimes and criminals like the Beatle Bandit that wore a wig like a band member of the fab 4. Anyway I digress ( again 😊)
Those are some cool memories. The museum is located at HQ and I believe they still have those displays you mentioned. To be honest I’m not sure, I mean police officers all whole ‘office’ in an odd way but an officer is still a constable in terms of the ranking system. Constable, sergeant, inspector, etc, but they are all still officers. I appreciate the input.
My advice, is know the service and where it is, that you're applying too. With a few services in my interview, I got asked what do you know about this service? What do you know about this city?
People can get on with bad credit but I’m not sure what terrible credit means lol. That would have to be addressed with the police service you apply for. 🙏🏼
@OfficerArsenault thank for reply sir. So when does it end like do i have to give any more exams or interviews or they will offer the job but keep doing the checks as part of their job?
I’m a licensed carpenter, did my apprenticeship before I became a police officer and was also part of the union, first in Vancouver and then Toronto. I agree, more people need to consider trades and it’s an honourable career.

do you need to be super athletic? to be a police officer?
To be hired there are physical requirements. To be in specialized units there are physical requirements.
My advice, is know the service and where it is, that you're applying too. With a few services in my interview, I got asked what do you know about this service? What do you know about this city?
Yes I wholeheartedly agree, thanks for sharing.
I have terrible credit, and i was homeschooled...can i?? Otherwise squeaky clean record. Not even a traffic violation in the past 15 years.

I do not have any present interest in policing?
What's offensive, to who and why?
P.s.
Also, many people do not necessarily have any interest in donating blood or any organs.
Trust was destroyed.
I currently have a open court case. I have not been indicted. Its for a felony charge. Can i still become a Police Officer?
Sounds like the US however in Canada yes you can still become a police officer after receiving pardon, etc.
Wondering about any police related volunteer opportunities as a 17 year old in toronto. Any recommendations or suggestions?
Yes for sure, find out the division you work in and ask to speak to the CPLC reps for that division 👍🏼
Is interview the last step if someone already cleared the written test psychology test and background and fitness?
Negative, the psychological and continued background still happen after interview usually 👍🏼
@OfficerArsenault thank for reply sir. So when does it end like do i have to give any more exams or interviews or they will offer the job but keep doing the checks as part of their job?
Here we go again I can say this it’s important video for recruiter without watching this video thank you for uploading
