It's precisely because it's not western developed. Look at all the magical girl anime like Pretty Cure. The character designs are cute and the outfits are very marketable. They play to their audience and see major returns because of it.
This is the reason why I only play Chinese developed games like Love Nikki,Shining Nikki and Life Makeover, I tried Western dress up games, I love dress up games but I couldn't get into them .

Which is okay on its own if said characters were actually interesting, but it's just so overused that it makes the default look so much more unique.

Nikki has a wide spread fanbase..i love playing shinning nikki..this is their debut on pc and consoles and they are coming with a beautiful open world..i really want this game to inspire indie devs and aaa companies to make more feminine games
You know what's sad? Dress up game is underatted despite character customisation being one of most popular tag in game. I remembered having my male friend who played Line Up complained how the developer barely make costume for the male avatar and pumped out shiny costumes for female avatar. I'm a girl, and I feel his pain. No wonder male sometimes play female characters. We have more customisation to make our characters looks pretty.
I’ve been a tomboy all my life. My favorite genre of games in games are fighting games. But I’m still a girl and I do like these type of games and always wanted to play more of them. I'm glad they’re making more “girly” games that are aim towards girls.
Not sure about your definition of "woke" but the previous games have a wide variety of female characters, from gun wielding nuns and mercenary queens to just normal girls going to college. Nikki x Kimi is a very popular ship in Love Nikki. We get free items on pride month. You can be non-binary in Shining Nikki. We have cross dressing side characters as well (Yuniang was his name i think). The games are not anti woke if anyone thought so.

I don't know how much combat will be in the game, but I think the majority of the game will be about dressing up since the entire series is about dressing up Nikki in different clothes in fact different outfits give you different abilities and you have fashion battles with NPCs .
There will be at least a little as one outfit lets you shoot energy balls to purify demons, but it is being advertised as an "Open World Dress-Up Game". They also poached one of the Breath of the Wild people from Nintendo to help make the game. It has BOTW Shrines.
None of that is allowed near my home. I have zero tolerance for it. I also make sure I'm vocal about it when I'm out, holding nothing back, just straight facts. I alert people on what to avoid and why, then i try and offer some alternatives. There are plenty of alternatives too. The longer we reject this BS, the more likely we are to have actual decent games again in the future.
Hey, long time Nikki games player here (like 5 or 6 years now i think) For those new or unaware, Paper Games has been expanding and evolving Nikki's story for more than a decade now through many games, they're outright devoted to their creation, so for long time fans to see her reaching new audiences is so heartwarming and feels so deserved. 💛
Paper Games is like the main branch and Aisno is a side branch right? Never played anything from Paper Games but i'm playing Path to Nowhere from Aisno and the quality these guys put in their games is impressive.

I used to play love Nikki, and currently play shining Nikki (though I had quit my addiction for a while but got sucked back in this week actually after seeing the unicorn suit for the anniversary event) so I’ve been excited for this game. Not really a big gamer so don’t know much about the state of video games but not a huge fan of fan of buzz words like woke which seem to have no meaning nowadays. Like you used the Barbie movie as a positive example but people also called that woke. I do like female characters who exhibit masculine traits it’s just not the be all and end all. Baldur’s Gate 3 was actually the game that temporarily cured my Shining Nikki addiction. Tav is a self insert character so it’s a bit different category than a game with a set protagonist like this new Nikki game but BG3 is great (obviously) and appealing to female players without being hyper feminine which I appreciate. I like super girly things but I don’t want everything with a female demographic in mind to be super girly because then I start to feel type cast.
Nikki is actually hinted at being lesbian/not straight. Since it's a Chinese game they obviously can't openly display it. Throughout the entire Nikki franchise she has guys who are interested in her, but she only responds to the girls (Ace & Kimi). She also occasionally flirts with the player in the interactive feature in Shining Nikki. There's both, from gay couples like Zoey & Lilith or the gods of Light & the Sea, to the straight couples of Lunar & Louie or Serena & Helz. So we can can expect an equally colorful cast in Infinity Nikki. Not to mention, that despite it's vibrant aesthetic, the plots of the games get progressively darker. So you can expect an interesting story.
If you're curious about another "girl game" with combat, check out Love and Deepspace. Its also by a Chinese developers though mobile only. The main difference between Asia and the west rn among some other things is that they're not going out of their way to deny the difference in what the average women likes compare to men and are willing to try and leverage those difference in unique ways.
I like the game too. But the fandom is full of LGBTQ that love to ship other husbando and make Male OC for their MC even though the dev already warned them 😞 And the game is too lewd for me so I can't play anymore.. It's really unique... I hope more games do this mechanics in their game again.
Honestly, my wife is into Nikki games and the lore gets dark as fuck. You basically play as an isekai'd girl tasked with saving the world, but she can't and has to suffer through many resets. Game begins with this silly plot of gods causing EXCRUCIATING PAIN to anyone who wields a weapon, thus everything gets solved with fashion battles. Then this one dude from an empire that's against the gods and fate and all that grabs a fucking sword and kills one of the main characters and Nikki gets horrified of watching someone actually die in that supposedly wholesome world. There's more shit like that down the line, don't be fooled by the overall cutesy.
I am so sick of oversexualization of female characters in most games and when I saw how they were trying to portray strong woman figures in those 'woke' games, it's even worse because they just throw masculinity into a female character and it's just that, I feel it's counter-intuitive since if a game wants to promote feminism, they should not try to force masculinity into feminism to make the character 'strong' which puts down women who are feminine themselves.

This game is very diverse for a Chinese company. They added black hairstyles, dark skin tones, and have masculine female characters. In both the 2d and 3d mobile games. Don't speak on something you know nothing about
It's the most Disney Princess / Barbie game I've seen in my life and I'm all here for it. Of course, it's filtered through a more eastern aesthetic, taking some cues from the plushie / mascot culture in Japan and the magical girl genre, but it still has that vibe going on.
A game made for dress up fans who love girly, elegant, and fashionable clothing! It feels like a game made for 5 to 9-year-old me, a simple girl who only wanted to make her own princesses and magical girls out of a mobile game. Infinity Nikki does just that, plus adding the spice of open world adventure and exploration I adored from BotW and a simple, but seemingly fun combat system that we would see from things like Kirby! If there is one thing the modern media industry should learn from international developers like these Chinese devs, it's that we, women, and other fans, ALSO love the magical, girly aesthetics that we grew up with before the pandemic struck! I unfortunately don't I will be getting Infinity Nikki because of financial reasons, but at least I can say for sure that I will try to support this game and prove to the woke community women don't have to be masculine to be cool!
I'm a dude and I'm genuinely interested in playing Infinity Nikki... until I heard it's a gacha. I never played a dress-up adventure game before, but the adventure part is interesting to me. And there's also a cute girl on screen for most of the time while I'm playing? Maybe I should give this one a chance, see how far I can go without dumping my entire salary on it.
I've played in Love Nikki and never pulled in the gacha. The story, free gacha and suits for crafting were enough. You don't have to pull unless you're trying to go to the top.
It is mentioned that the game will have ingame purchases, and predecessor Nikki games are all gacha. But I would like it if instead of gacha they would only sell stamina, resources and outfits that won't affect gameplay. (*´ω｀*)

@@b.heaven9234 The free make-uo and clothes are pretty good looking. You'll be alright. You could save up for gachas, but I don't think the outfits will have any unique abilities. Usually you get some free pulls, so you can get at least something from the gacha. Standart gachas in Love Nikki and Shining Nikki give free pulls once in two days.

I don't mind playing as a male character (like Arthur Morgan or Geralt) but I highly prefer customizable characters that also look pretty. I had to learn how to mod my games so I can have a variety of cute girl characters to play as. And additional mods for cute outfits. My biggest annoyance is western game devs making ugly characters or not including pretty asian faces. I know beauty is subjective and all that BS but I just want my asian character to look equally cute as the favoritism to pretty white character models. Not every asian girl has almond eyes and a wide nose. And I don't want this to be about "representation" because not having cute asian models doesn't hurt my feelings or whatnot. It's just annoying needing to mod the game (I'll still do it) and boring to always see the same generic types of faces. I want realistic graphics and physics, I don't want my character to look like some random person on the street. Some people want to play ugly characters, and that's their choice. I'm a tomboy and largely consider myself as agender and I still don't understand why every female in western games have to be an androgynous she Hulk with daddy issues to be cool and strong. This only pushes the sexist idea that being feminine = weak and uncool. When I play girl characters I want to play cute and pretty but strong girls, strong mentally/spiritually/physically without looking like a dudebro from the bar. It's not even the androgynous characters are a problem but how they're presented and modeled, for example in Honkai Star Rail (hoyoverse) you have Stelle who is a tall female in a hoodie with aloof personality and love for trash cans. She's described as androgynous but she's still an attractive and loveable character with her quirks making her a joy to play as, meanwhile in western games you have the same type of person copy+paste sometimes without any personality whatsoever
There is also a male fanbase as well. On Shining Nikki it lets you choose your gender and the dialogue of Nikki talks a certain way on the menu screen making her acknowledge the players gender. There is also outfits for males she wears. I’ve played Shining Nikki and the story takes a dark turn. The girly part is the fashion, but the story isn’t as much. If you like thriller or horror it mixes that into it. There are characters that actually die in the game.

the puzzle system is very good. The fighting still has aiming, the story is dark but not sexual. Your dresses give abilities, you can craft more abilities. Momo is cute and its massive world. I can get lost in it for hours easily.

i knew about the game from some announcement trailer a year or so ago, and i liked the aesthetic. looking at the gameplay now, and i'm getting a weird combination of Alice Madness Returns in terms of movement and exploration, combined with the outfit (and maybe ability?) swaps of Balan Wonderworld. hopefully learning from that game's mistakes and giving players a more fulfilling experience

Not sure about your definition of "woke" but the previous games have a wide variety of female characters, from gun wielding nuns and mercenary queens to just normal girls going to college. Nikki x Kimi is a very popular ship in Love Nikki. We get free items on pride month. You can be non-binary in Shining Nikki. There will be at least a little as one outfit lets you shoot energy balls to purify demons, but it is being advertised as an "Open World Dress-Up Game". They also poached one of the Breath of the Wild people from Nintendo to help make the game. It has BOTW Shrines.
There will be boss combat, which is a different thing for Nikki series yes, but a bit similar to the other game they developed, Love and Deep Space

I used to play love Nikki, and currently play shining Nikki (though I had quit my addiction for a while but got sucked back in this week actually after seeing the unicorn suit for the anniversary event) so I’ve been excited for this game. Not really a big gamer so don’t know much about the state of video games but not a huge fan of fan of buzz words like woke which seem to have no meaning nowadays. Like you used the Barbie movie as a positive example but people also called that woke. I do like female characters who exhibit masculine traits it’s just not the be all and end all. Baldur’s Gate 3 was actually the game that temporarily cured my Shining Nikki addiction. Tav is a self insert character so it’s a bit different category than a game with a set protagonist like this new Nikki game but BG3 is great (obviously) and appealing to female players without being hyper feminine which I appreciate. I like super girly things but I don’t want everything with a female demographic in mind to be super girly because then I start to feel type cast.
Nikki is actually hinted at being lesbian/not straight. Since it's a Chinese game they obviously can't openly display it. Throughout the entire Nikki franchise she has guys who are interested in her, but she only responds to the girls (Ace & Kimi). She also occasionally flirts with the player in the interactive feature in Shining Nikki. There's both, from gay couples like Zoey & Lilith or the gods of Light & the Sea, to the straight couples of Lunar & Louie or Serena & Helz. So we can can expect an equally colorful cast in Infinity Nikki.
Not to mention, that despite it's vibrant aesthetic, the plots of the games get progressively darker. So you can expect an interesting story.

Honestly, my wife is into Nikki games and the lore gets dark as fuck. You basically play as an isekai'd girl tasked with saving the world, but she can't and has to suffer through many resets. Game begins with this silly plot of gods causing EXCRUCIATING PAIN to anyone who wields a weapon, thus everything gets solved with fashion battles. Then this one dude from an empire that's against the gods and fate and all that grabs a fucking sword and kills one of the main characters and Nikki gets horrified of watching someone actually die in that supposedly wholesome world. There's more shit like that down the line, don't be fooled by the overall cutesy.

It's the most Disney Princess / Barbie game I've seen in my life and I'm all here for it. Of course, it's filtered through a more eastern aesthetic, taking some cues from the plushie / mascot culture in Japan and the magical girl genre, but it still has that vibe going on.
A game made for dress up fans who love girly, elegant, and fashionable clothing! It feels like a game made for 5 to 9-year-old me, a simple girl who only wanted to make her own princesses and magical girls out of a mobile game. Infinity Nikki does just that, plus adding the spice of open world adventure and exploration I adored from BotW and a simple, but seemingly fun combat system that we would see from things like Kirby! If there is one thing the modern media industry should learn from international developers like these Chinese devs, it's that we, women, and other fans, ALSO love the magical, girly aesthetics that we grew up with before the pandemic struck! I unfortunately don't I will be getting Infinity Nikki because of financial reasons, but at least I can say for sure that I will try to support this game and prove to the woke community women don't have to be masculine to be cool!

I've played in Love Nikki and never pulled in the gacha. The story, free gacha and suits for crafting were enough. You don't have to pull unless you're trying to go to the top.
It is mentioned that the game will have ingame purchases, and predecessor Nikki games are all gacha. But I would like it if instead of gacha they would only sell stamina, resources and outfits that won't affect gameplay. (*´ω｀*)

@@b.heaven9234 The free make-uo and clothes are pretty good looking. You'll be alright. You could save up for gachas, but I don't think the outfits will have any unique abilities. Usually you get some free pulls, so you can get at least something from the gacha. Standart gachas in Love Nikki and Shining Nikki give free pulls once in two days.

I don't mind playing as a male character (like Arthur Morgan or Geralt) but I highly prefer customizable characters that also look pretty. I had to learn how to mod my games so I can have a variety of cute girl characters to play as. And additional mods for cute outfits. My biggest annoyance is western game devs making ugly characters or not including pretty asian faces. I know beauty is subjective and all that BS but I just want my asian character to look equally cute as the favoritism to pretty white character models. Not every asian girl has almond eyes and a wide nose.
And I don't want this to be about "representation" because not having cute asian models doesn't hurt my feelings or whatnot. It's just annoying needing to mod the game (I'll still do it) and boring to always see the same generic types of faces. I want realistic graphics and physics, I don't want my character to look like some random person on the street. Some people want to play ugly characters, and that's their choice. I'm a tomboy and largely consider myself as agender and I still don't understand why every female in western games have to be an androgynous she Hulk with daddy issues to be cool and strong. This only pushes the sexist idea that being feminine = weak and uncool. When I play girl characters I want to play cute and pretty but strong girls, strong mentally/spiritually/physically without looking like a dudebro from the bar. It's not even the androgynous characters are a problem but how they're presented and modeled, for example in Honkai Star Rail (hoyoverse) you have Stelle who is a tall female in a hoodie with aloof personality and love for trash cans. She's described as androgynous but she's still an attractive and loveable character with her quirks making her a joy to play as, meanwhile in western games you have the same type of person copy+paste sometimes without any personality whatsoever
There is also a male fanbase as well. On Shining Nikki it lets you choose your gender and the dialogue of Nikki talks a certain way on the menu screen making her acknowledge the players gender. There is also outfits for males she wears. I’ve played Shining Nikki and the story takes a dark turn. The girly part is the fashion, but the story isn’t as much. If you like thriller or horror it mixes that into it. There are characters that actually die in the game.

the puzzle system is very good. The fighting still has aiming, the story is dark but not sexual. Your dresses give abilities, you can craft more abilities. Momo is cute and its massive world. I can get lost in it for hours easily.

i knew about the game from some announcement trailer a year or so ago, and i liked the aesthetic. looking at the gameplay now, and i'm getting a weird combination of Alice Madness Returns in terms of movement and exploration, combined with the outfit (and maybe ability?) swaps of Balan Wonderworld. hopefully learning from that game's mistakes and giving players a more fulfilling experience
