I had no idea how to lose weight the right way when I first started. So I dropped to 700 calories a day and did about two hours of cardio 6 days a week and lost about 80 lbs. I thought I was so healthy and doing so well, but then I started noticing my hair thinning to the point that you could see my scalp. I was diagnosed with anorexia, and I even started having heart palpitations!! I had to reverse diet in order to get myself up to 2,000 calories a day. My heart is now healthy and beating normally and the thick hair I remember has returned! I am now ready to take a slow and *easy* ride to lose the rest of the weight that refused to come off and put on some muscle!! Literally *dying* to be thin is not the way to go about it.
When I rarmey ate alot my my hair also fell and I was tired but never went to sleep and I was hungry to the point my stomach hurt I lost like 70lb but I gained muscle and ear lots of veg
My menstrual cycle is happily a thing of the past PERIOD. I’m on the more chronologically advanced end of your vast amount of fans, and I’m wondering if age plays a roll in metabolism and recommended calorie intake.
I always welcome this reminder. After major weightloss of over 170 pounds I gained a few pounds back and working on losing them again. I want it to go fast but I know that’s not sustainable. Thank you. #sortinghatsquad
I realized that calorie counting is the only way! I don't want to set my calories too low or I will be starving so I have set them at 1775 a day and have lost 30 pounds since January!! Sometimes I will go out with friends and consume more calories than 1775 and on those days / weeks I use your "jab" method and might have 2,100 calories one day and then split the difference by cutting a couple hundred calories the next couple days in a row. Over the last 4 weeks I have lost another 2.6 pounds. Slow and steady wins the race. Your "jab" method have been instrumental in my ability to lose weight and have a social life. One other point I make is to eat a half a gram to a gram of protein per pound of my body weight a day and I am golden brother. Starting to see my abs and my chest and arms are rippin'.
I made a video about this exact pathology! you are not alone! many people use starvation mode as a way to denounce their over eating ways. I made a video about this on my channel called "how to know if you're over eating and the causes of obesity.." where I break down WHY you are overeating! good luck on your journey :) my channel name is "Tasting Positive" !
This is so much more inspiring than any of those fat acceptance/health at every size type of videos out there. I've just started my own health/weightloss journey (barely on the 3rd week) and walking on the treadmill and using my elliptical have been so awesome for me. My moods have improved and like you mentioned, my energy has increased. I just gotta stick with it. Great job.
Hi Jordan! I love this video. Your channel was actually one of the first channels I dug into when I started my health and wellness journey back in 2017. I also recently just made a video all about this! I talk about obesity genetics, fullness cues and how to know if you're overeating! I lost 50 lbs, lowered my blood sugar and was able to get off cholesterol medications by learning more about health and nutrition and you have definitely helped me along the way! Keep up the amazing work and keep helping people!!
#sortinghatsquad Thank you so much for this video. I come from a story of disorder eating and other disorders correlated.I usually am thin, during the lockdown I tried to do more exercise to be more lean but after that I was so sad that I lowered my calories under 1300-1200 to have results faster, because I felt incapable. I couldn't study anymore, my blood pressure was down, my hair started falling and my menstrual cycle lost its rythm till one day I almost passed out because I lost too much water through sweating and I felt down for almost 48h. After some tryal and error I'm now finding some balance between calorie deficit and mantainance, I did 3 exams and people are noticing my toned body! And my weight is slowly adjusting so I'm not underweight anymore but proportioned. Thank you again 💕
One of the biggest things to my progress was following Jordan and listening to stuff like this, and unfollowing people that post their daily 5am workouts and say stuff like "I've worked out 365 days of the year last year no excuses no sick days". Hearing people give solid advice on how to make progress and make it sustainable and also give out warnings like 'if you look good in your Instagram photo but hate yourself, it's not worth it' are really important.Your videos are a breath of fresh air. #sortinghatsquad
#3 got me. Every week I write down what I plan on eating on Friday night/the weekend after the week is over. It something that I think about all week long and plan out extensively. All week I’ve been looking forward to and planning on eating a burrito from this one place near me on Friday Night. Then Saturday morning I plan on grabbing brunch in town and then probably eating dinner with some friends of mine.
I hope you will continue to do more videos on TH-cam as they are so helpful to us all. I started watching about 3 weeks ago and have had more success with WW after months of losing and gaining since Covid19. You give those of us who don't lose each week the realization that it's normal if we are doing everything right. I have been able to eat more and stay in a calorie deficit in addition to staying within my points. I also feel so much better. Thanks Jordan!
So Happy to see a new video. Your information is so valuable. I used the formula to figure out how many calories I needed to lose weight. I am seeing a weight loss the for the past 3 weeks. I have been doing WW and lost. I have about 10 pounds left and It seemed to have stalled. After finding out how many calories I should be eating It helped to break my plateau. I am double tracking calories and still doing WW and there ares some days I am eating too few calories. I am happy to be able to eat a little more and still see weight loss. Thank you for all the great information.
Thank you for the video and the great message. Even when your topic doesn’t necessarily apply to my situation, I always get a blessing from you. Shalom.

Thank you! I have been following your videos for the past month and appreciate the level headed, energetic advice according to best practices! I am following it and finding progress. Thank you!
I am eating less than 1000 calories a day and still not losing weight. I'm exhausted and not hungry or over eating. I'm thinking it may be because I've obusively dieted as an athlete in the past. I'd welcome any tips.
One time when I was much younger and did extreme dieting I lost my period for about 6 months but only lost 10 lbs a month so according to jordan that's only a half lb more per week than healthy weight loss....I think like he said I permanently might have damaged my metabolism tho cause I gain weight so freakishly easily (but then again I have my whole life so idk) so I'm actually still kind of confused..

I'd love to nominate you to be the king of the world. Honestly, I never comment anywhere, but you Sir are a gem and your advice is REAL, genuine & helpful. I've definitely martyred my metabolism following low calorie diets, I've lost a tonne of hair, been a walking zombie & disturbed my cycle. I've only recently learnt the truth to a healthy and sustainable weight loss and that's been through your advice. Keep it up. ❤
I am currently at 1650, however I add calories for exercise, so should be in about 300 kcal deficit most days. I normally add back 150- 300kcal on top of my baseline when I have active days :)
This is something I'm trying to figure out. I do my macros and I'm supposed to eat 2300 calories for my body size. I was only eating about 1500 and gaining weight. It's boggling my mind.
RD says I am doing it right but I am constantly hungry and not losing weight. Not even the planned 1/2 pound for week. If I eat more, I gain. No one can give me a solution.
I have just found you . Thank you so much for your insight! I am a chronic under eater for weight loss. Really going to try this normal sustainable weight loss . The amount of calories sounds insane ha.... giving it 90 days!
I heard it was somewhat normal to lose some hair during weight loss. Any time I go into even the slightest calorie deficit, I lose hair starting about 2-3 months into it. I guess it has something to do with the hair growth cycle. I hope this is normal! I hate when it happens. it almost makes me want to stop.
My hair has been thinning horribly and I finally realized it’s bc I’ve been going through a depression phase and not eating much so my weight has dropped rapidly as well. I had no idea too few calories could do that
I have to admit, I have no idea about how many calories is in what and despite being pretty thin overall, my weight tended to always fluctuate rapidly. I was shocked when I started using myfitnesspal that some days I ate as little as 600 calories from real food and when I drank alcohol I could get as much as extra 1000-1500 or more just from that. Plus lots of snacking on the side ofc. That made for WILD fluctuations in my weight, feeling horrible, mood swings,... I am happy to have discovered myfitnesspal as I would never know otherwise how much (or little) I was eating. I can totally recommend it to everyone who needs to learn about food.
Im not very sure if I eat too little, I'm a 17 yr old male, who moderately exercise, my TDEE is around 1700-2000 calories. I track my calories and usually get around 1700 calories. But I always feel tired and unsatifised after eating, even if it's a huge meal. I lowered my carbs significantly but increased my protein + fat intake.
Pineapple doesn’t belong on a pizza? Lies I tell you! Have you ever had a flat bread pineapple and grilled chicken pizza? Glorious I tell you! Btw....thank you for taking the time to answer my email...I love how you respond no matter what the question😊
starvation mode is just a dumb word to discribe, that your body is checking the in and outcome of your daily calories and if the calories are to low for a long time without refeeding ENOUGH back to your body (not that 10 000 cals cheatday once a week!!😉) then your body will fight against starving it with *lower the thyroid *lower the calorieburn from the digestion from food simply because of less food *lower the libido = lower the movement/NEAT 😉 *loss of menstrual cycle and female reproductive hormones *lack of energy/bad mood swings/anti-social behaviour because of it *lower the bone density/longterm can leads to osteoporosis *higher your appetite/cravings = CAN LEAD TO OVEREATING AND BINGES! You can't fight against your bodys needs for longterm with dieting, so yeah, I think that is the real meaning of "starvation mode" from your body. I am sure that will be what this video is about... 🤔😅😉 Love your channel ! ❤ Loved your video about how to stop binge eating ! 👌👌👌
@@thebesttheworst2277 in my own opinion for myself: Recover! Accept the hunger and weight gain kicking in. Accept your hunger cues. Eat when hungry, stop when fully satisfied. In the beginning this can mean eating A LOT and gain a bunch of weight. But if you're NOT restrict your food and honr your hunger cues, you will recover and your hunger will shrink with time and patience! Make the sports you love (fitness/gym/calisthenics/parcour/walking with your dog/playing with your kids/biking/hiking/swimming/horse riding... do whatever you love to do. Rest enough. Eat!! You will get to your set point which can be lower or higher as you think of. My setpoint was roundabout 3 kg lower than in beginning of my recovery, but 8-10 kg higher than I wanted to be in my obsessing fitness mindset. You don't know. Every body is unique. Be patient and self-loving. Body-neutral and get not obsessive again. Leave diet culture behind and enjoy the sports you are doing. That's my way and I am happier and healthier now. And btw I love my body with the higher weight even more! I love the gym and go every other day for fun and get stronger and build my curves! 😉 Everybody can put the extra energy from all the food into building muscle, men and women! That's a lot of fun! 😉 That's my own opinion. Love the recovered way of life. I will never ever diet again!
@@thebesttheworst2277 I don't know what's the way of dieting again would be. In my opinion you can't recover and diet again because that can leads into disordered eating again.
@@thebesttheworst2277 I'm probably going to get attacked for proposing it on this channel... But you avoid it by fasting entirely. On the days you eat, eat big and hearty. Maintenance, maybe even a 10-20% surplus. On your fasting days don't take in a single calorie. If you're going to work out hard on those fasting days look into electrolyte supplementation.
I've lost 60lbs. I have gallstones so had to go on a strict low fat diet. I also couldn't eat much at all due to severe pain. I am now stalling but also absolutely starving ALL of the time and freezing cold. I still have 24lbs to lose. I know I was massively undereating and still am but I am awaiting surgery. There's so many differing opinions, eat less exercise more, eat more 😭😭😭😭 I don't know what to do

So bewildered!! My weight (female) is lowest ever but strength is up in upper body, maintained in lower. Fat deposits still annoyingly present!! Can’t figure out where the weight is coming off ???
Hello there, I am 5'10 I weight 270lbs and I only eat once a day & I dont eat much yet I'm still fat. I have stage 4 metastatic breast and lung cancer and I haven't changed my diet just chemo was added. I gained 20lbs from chemo. I have alot of muscle I dont gain or lose weight, except when I was recently in the hospital I was eating 3-4xs and I actually lost 5lbs.... Dr said I need to eat more & drink water. I really dont get hungry. I dont binge or anything I've been eating once a day for yrs my 8yr old who only weight 53lbs eats more in 1 sitting..... So yeah I'm that weird person. I did a calorie counter and I was consuming 700-1200 calories and I didnt lose weight..... I am not very active due to the cancer I sleep 16-18hrs so I basically fast literally 20+hrs daily and again I dont lose weight. I guess the only way to lose weight is to wake up make a smoothies frozen fruits & kale & do that twice a day then do a meal and hopefully that will help me. I seriously dont get hungry, I only get hungry if I eat right b4 I go to sleep then I wake up STARVING Yet I ignore it & dont eat. Idk maybe I should actually vlog & show exactly what I eat & hope long I go without eating sometime 30+hrs then I get migraines & feel sick..... I dont obsess over food. I'm just a freak idk. Hugs keep safe yall!!!!!! Ohhhhh hellz yeah. Pineapple pizza YUMMMMMMMY LOL Say pizza I'll go 24hrs wont eat will have 2 slices pineapple pizza and a bottle of tonic water and that's it. Nothing else for 20-30hrs. So...... yeah so idk I have alot of muscle in my legs n arms I'm proportioned all over equally..... I'm at the point where I'm just about to go on a water fast for 6months water with Chia seeds, for real.....
With all the great recipes on TH-cam, I don’t feel the urge for some crappy foods anymore. I do eat them at times but I don’t binge because my food isn’t boring. Eating low calorie dense foods is what worked best for me. I lost almost 20 lbs since April and I feel great! Amazing video, thanks for the reminders 🙂
Missed your videos!! The old me did do list about the food I'll eat once my diet is over... The new me just eats them in moderation and enjoy them without guilt! Thanks to you! And pineapple does belong to pizza, I love them!
I thought I’m eating enough until i tracked my calories and i realized that i don’t eat enough AT ALL but I’m full most of the time , why is this so hard!!?
Same!! I found that when i thought I was eating enough i was actually on average eating 300 less calories than i was supposed to. I dont know how to eat more because I want to stop eating when I'm satisfied.
@@sanjanapatel6402 add more fat to your diet. Fattier cuts of meat, add Italian or maybe bleu cheese dressing to your salads (ideally home made in either case), drizzle butter or a cheese sauce on your vegetables, use sour cream or guacamole wherever you like it. *Addendum:* this is assuming you're getting enough protein. If you're not you might either have to work on stomach capacity or eat more often or top up your protein intake with supplementation.
I have to fight myself to intake enough calories… before I lost my fat and started training I woulda thought this was a great problem but now I’d be way more comfortable and not hungry eating way less than I need even for maintenance and yet I wanna bulk 😭 I’m seriously so stuffed right this second with so much of my food left in front of me… I loved and miss the cutting phase I felt amazing
Lots of good info. But, I have to disagree with the statement that eating too few calories wont cause you to stop losing weight. Ive seen hundreds of clients have this exact problem. Raising their calories and protein to an appropriate level immediately restarts their weight loss. This is a problem that is way more common than it was made out to be.
if i eat when i’m not hungry and still eat when i’m full but doing it when i’m in a caloric deficit to complete my calories will i still lose weight or will i gain instead?
I always watch your videos to make sure I'm on track and doing the right thing; proud to say I am. Thank you for educating! Also, I can't eat any, but pineapple is a definite yes on pizza.
So, what is the explanation of someone on average eating less than 1000 calories a day and still gaining weight? Have a BMI over 30. I'm just curious on why you think that could possibly happen. Thanks.
I can easily eat super clean but once I add it up I’m barely at 1k calories ugh 😩 I’ve eaten only meat and veggies for 2 weeks and only down two pounds so far. I’ve got some things to learn. I think my chronic under eating caused stress to my body and raised cortisol. That’s why I gained. Also not enough protein. I don’t like to eat and have to be really diligent
hey i just started counting my calories... and its been restarting since march ugh. im on day 3, i went over... i been eating around 1400, what do i do if i went to 1700 :/
Scale back for the next few days! Eat 1200/1300 for a few days. Its ok to get off track once in a while. The important part is that you don't stop completely. Just pick back up after you go over and you'll soon develop a routine and it'll be easier to stick to it!
1. You're losing weight too quickly
2. You're always hungry
3. You're obsessing over food
4. You're experiencing decreasing strength / losing muscle
5. Your sex drive is lowered
6. Low energy, bad mood, losing hair, irregular menstrual cycle

I have just found you . Thank you so much for your insight! I am a chronic under eater for weight loss. Really going to try this normal sustainable weight loss . The amount of calories sounds insane ha.... giving it 90 days!
Hi Renae, I see Jordans video has helped give you perspective 🙂 how's that been going this week?
Good video, very interesting! Thank you!
I had no idea too few calories could do that
Just got the text and here I am 😤
Yessss
Pineapple, banana, curry.
Delicious
How about if you are not loosing anything, have hypothyroidism but always hungry , tired and loosing hair .
Where have you been? Good to see your video🤗
starvation mode is just a dumb word to discribe, that your body is checking the in and outcome of your daily calories and if the calories are to low for a long time without refeeding ENOUGH back to your body (not that 10 000 cals cheatday once a week!!😉) then your body will fight against starving it with
*lower the thyroid
*lower the calorieburn from the digestion from food simply because of less food
*lower the libido = lower the movement/NEAT 😉
*loss of menstrual cycle and female reproductive hormones
*lack of energy/bad mood swings/anti-social behaviour because of it
*lower the bone density/longterm can leads to osteoporosis
*higher your appetite/cravings = CAN LEAD TO OVEREATING AND BINGES!
You can't fight against your bodys needs for longterm with dieting, so yeah, I think that is the real meaning of "starvation mode" from your body.
I am sure that will be what this video is about... 🤔😅😉
Love your channel ! ❤
Loved your video about how to stop binge eating ! 👌👌👌
So what's the simple solution to stop all that kicking in ... Eat at maintenance for a while then lower again ?
Everybody can put the extra energy from all the food into building muscle, men and women! That's a lot of fun! 😉
That's my own opinion. Love the recovered way of life. I will never ever diet again!
@@thebesttheworst2277 I don't know what's the way of dieting again would be. In my opinion you can't recover and diet again because that can leads into disordered eating again.
@@fitnessfischchen3263 Thank you for the insight and detailed response 👍👏
There's so many differing opinions, eat less exercise more, eat more 😭😭😭😭 I don't know what to do
I've missed your videos man. Keep smiling :)
Great info!
You look great and look like you’ve been working your arms out more 💪🏼. Thanks for all the information. I’ve been in maintenance since November 2019.
Another great content video 👍
This is extremely helpful, thank you for making it so easy to understand and delivering it in a simple way
Subscribed! :)
Thanks Jay! Welcome back 💪💪
No periods can also be a sign of PCOS not necessarily due to calories
I so badly needed to watch this right now. Thank you.
That was great! Definitely lots to keep in mind. 😃💜
Appreciate how simple you make it. #sortinghatsquad
Always straight talking common sense Jordan! 🙌🏻💪🏻
The only thing I didn't like about the video was the pineapple on pizza part. Pineapples on pizza are zeeee best!
They're great on Hawaiian (or to add a little actual flavor to a plain cheese) Don't go dropping them on other pizzas :p
Lucy Kassune hahaha, well here’s what I always have: Pizza with pineapples, corn, pepperbell and onions - don’t knock it before you try it! 😋😋😂🙌🏼
@@hereiscece my only problem is I usually don't cook what I don't make, I refuse to buy the canned sugar water pineapple chunks and I know I would never go through a whole pineapple before it went bad lol
Lucy Kassune ahhh yeah I get that.. well in case you ever buy one, now you know! 😂
Don't trust anyone who doesn't like pineapple on pizza
So glad that my friend introduced me to you and your videos...excited for the upcoming 30 day calorie cycling challenge! #sortinghatsquad
This was really helpful thank you
finally, i'm always hearing we are eating to much, but no one realizes dieting should be such, so you not starving.
Finally!!!! Missed you dude!!! I get taking the break to focus on whats important, still missed your videos sir 😎
So excited for a new video!!!! Best fitness/health content by far.

Thanks from Egypt 🇪🇬 Love 💕 you bro
Thanks for all the info!!!
Informative as always. Thank you for all you do Jordan. #sortinghatsquad
So how do you feel about intermittent fasting?
I always watch your videos to make sure I'm on track and doing the right thing; proud to say I am. Thank you for educating! Also, I can't eat any, but pineapple is a definite yes on pizza.
Great video dude ! That drawing of #5 ?! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So, what is the explanation of someone on average eating less than 1000 calories a day and still gaining weight? Have a BMI over 30. I'm just curious on why you think that could possibly happen. Thanks.
where have you been Jordan? I've been missing your content.
I don’t experience these symptoms but I’ve been eating 1 meal a day (by mistake, I forget eating) for a long time.
Is that ok for metabolism?
I recommend going iver what you and and see what cost you alot. Take it as a learning experience. Check what to do dufferently next time.
@@Lily-wn2qq Yes its only for 2 or 3 days so it will be fine!!
Always on point!
Thank you I love watching your videos ❤️
I work as a letter carrier and I’m trying to figure out how many calories I need a day. I think I might be eating enough but still fill like I’m not
