I'm just a beginner so bear with me, I can't understand two things: 1. I don't understand why Nakamura at 5:14 moved that pawn to C4 and let Firouzja take his queen 2. Why did they end the game with a draw ? Couldn't Nakamura just take his king to E8 and continue to play even though they were both about to run out of time? Thanks in advance for helping

I’m somewhat new to chess and just started watching these videos. What constitutes a draw in this case? Does one opponent just decide to call it a draw because they will just keep shuffling pieces around the board with no end in sight? I’m sorry if this is an ignorant comment. I just want to learn more about this beautiful game. 😊
There are chess positions that are known to be a draw unless one of the players makes a massive blunder which is not going to happen between top level players. This is one of such positions. Material is limited and balanced and there are not weaknesses on either camp. It is such a simple position to play that any of the two players could easily fend off any attack the other may launch.
@@vick7848 White had the advantage for most if the game but Hikaru managed to defend well. At the moment they agreed to a draw white advantage had evaporated. The position was equal and with no chances to complicate the game by either player.
Forgive me if i see this wrong, at 7:00. Hikaru moved the King to f6. Was Knight b4 not a better move? Attacking the bishop and pawn together, while at the same time still pinning the bishop with the rook on d8.
I would say white had more chances if he did this. In the end, as someone mentioned, Rc3 by white made whites chances for winning go down. Black seemed to be more defensive and it ended up drawn in the end. But yeah, good game to watch in any case.
@@nicbentulan Taking the pawn results in Kg7, trapping the Bishop. Rd7+ is possible but the Bishop can’t move and the rook can’t move off of the file so the bishop isn’t necessarily trapped as in it’ll be won but it basically would have to be abandoned since the rook would be stuck. That is why Alireza Checked with the rook
@@kaushikdr Rd7+ Kf8 traps the bishop. If Bxg6 then Ne5 wins the bishop(or wins rook in exchange for knight). If Rd8+ after Ne5 then Ke7 and similar outcome

Obviously it’s impossible to always find the best move especially under time pressure. Also watching humans play chess is far more interesting cuz they don’t always play the best moves and psychology is involved. Drawn endgames are usually just that, dead draws if played by computers but the reason people like Magnus and Firouzja win them is cuz they try different tactics and their opponent eventually slip up.

This hand shaking is confusing. How about a simple text message on screen with the final result or the score in the description. How about a 2d board with the rapid moves so we can easily keep track. The video quality is poor and a bit out of focus. Other chess channels do better.

@John Brower I believe the handshakes are mandatory, but he should cough into his elbow, in the very least. The hard part is building that habit, but then it becomes automatic.
As Magnus said, he's annoying to play against because he always finds the right moves to either keep himself in the game from a losing position or completely obliterate you for the entire game. There's a reason many GMs consider him the best speed chess player after Magnus, regardless of never winning a WC title. Another reason why Meltwater tournament was so much better. Current format in WC for Blitz and Rapid doesn't reward the best player because the format is just old and not suited for speed chess. If the format was more like Meltwater, then the WC winners would be more consistent and less random winners all the time.

Current format in WC for Blitz and Rapid doesn't reward the best player because the format is just old and not suited for speed chess. If the format was more like Meltwater, then the WC winners would be more consistent and less random winners all the time.
