Magnus probably just felt that it was not a mate anyway even as it looks like it, and he felt confident that it woulud be a draw as a maximum for Hikaru 😊. Actually the poker face of Magnus creates the visibility that he knows the exact moves till the end of game and it creates pressure on opponent in such games and it makes them blunder more.
Exactly that’s what makes you better trying to understand their moves, but not only that, when they are taking 30sec plus to make a move I try and say out loud what I would play, in 5 seconds. And then I try to understand why they took time to get an advantage instead of playing an “obvious” move. This has helped me get out of the 1400-1600 range, and now am 1700. Don’t play your opponent no matter if they try and flag you or talk just look for the best moves and if you lose you lose you can’t get angry and learn from the moves and why your move was wrong and why the best move was the best move. Anyway, I’m a casual so I don’t try and invest too much time into it as I don’t make money, but if you want to get over the jump of 1200-1500 you’re going to have to invest some time, unless you’re just natural or been playing since a kid
Off topic but I love Magnus' collared button shirts that he wears to these events. Looks professional, silky slick, and comfortable to wear. Wish I had some lol
Because the position was drawn, regardless of time or material. Notice that the final moves were repeated. If they continued playing, they would just make the same two moves back and forth again and again, so it's a draw.
It’s crazy how Magnus fans think he’s leagues better than everyone else. Hikaru gives Carlsen a fight every time they play. They are both top 3 in classical and blitz. You are actually in no position to critique either of them when you’re probably an 800

I enjoy chess, I'm crappy at it, but play some. Watching it is so difficult though because I can't appreciate the moves or usually the status of the game at any given moment. You have to be really really good at chess to see what the moves do and that is virtually impossible as a casual fan watching the highest level chess ever. Other competitions don't have nearly as complicated strategy and therefore the status of the game is easy to understand. The fun in watching those competitions (typical sports) is in the execution of the strategy which is easily understandable even if one cannot do it.
You mean to say "Chess is not flashy (with dribbling tricks, dukes, and trick shots like any other sports so uninitiated spectators can't appreciate every moves players make.". Yeah, I agree. You need to learn a bit of theory like the values of the pieces or which position is better to make sense of every move. But here's the kick, you don't have to be "really really good at chess" to appreciate these. Sure, if you're just someone who is just starting with the game or a casual player, I think it could be overwhelming, not enjoyable even ,but it is what it is. I recommend you watch content creators like @agadmator. He breaks down every move to digestible information even beginners can understand.

I always wonder what he's looking at when he looks to the sky.
hikaru wana be smart , but so agressive player
Pretty cool of Magnus to help that streamer get some content

Ouch
i just wanted to say that its only been 1 month since i started to play chess and have increased from 0-700 elo and am very proud of my progress.

What a game. So many more "pointless" moves, but they end in a draw because of how good they are. Wild.
Which moves were pointless?

There were no pointless moves that I see, unless they meant something different by “pointless.”

Hikaru couldn't believe that there's no Winning line at the end. It looks really loose for Black.

legend vs legend
Can someone explain what's happening here? Why would they draw when there was time left on the clock and sufficient material to play?
Because the position was drawn, regardless of time or material. Notice that the final moves were repeated. If they continued playing, they would just make the same two moves back and forth again and again, so it's a draw.
Because I guess every move other than a draw would have worsen the situation for each party.

Very interesting
So who won? Or was that stalemate?
A draw, not stalemate.
Nakamura won this have you seen magnus hand shake😂
11:45 Can we talk about Rg7?
The black king is safe in e8, and the black has material advantage... so white must not allow Ke6, this is why he use to check with Qh5.
Ke8 and black is escaping on the light squares

there are no judges in chess, he just came to ask why hikaru didn't play a move and him and magnus showed him the response to it.
