Wow dude. This is awesome. Just that "Aha" moment there. I never understood, with my own understanding of anatomy and knowing the proportions and how in general, perspective works, why in the world things still looked out of whack for me. However no one ever explained to me that using the angles of a rectangle like that could help me from the mid points and essentially proportion in perspective CORRECTLY. Thanks so much, all your tutorials and resources have been a huge help. Thank you!

@@titanking5956 Nevermind I found it. Shortly before this video was released Sycra put out a video in which they "cut paper with a ruler"
The joke being that they use a ruler for what someone would normally use scissors for and vice versa.

I've arted for quite awhile but I never knew that finding proportions was so cut and dry. I only knew about comparing angles and relations. However I did not know about that box method and how to scaling it up or down infinitely as long as you have that same angle.
Thanks for making this vid, I feel like a hole in my knowledge base has been filled now.

This is why I love your tutorials. You speak casually, not notably proper. "Circle-y thing," for example. You speak like most people do. You explain things that basically everyone can understand. I really thank you for your tutorials and other videos.

I just love the fact that he isn't entirely sure if people use rulers to make straight lines, like they are just some mystic artifact, BUT then with a straight face (or straight voice I suppose) says that he uses scissors for lines like?!?!?!

ugh! I hate proportion with a passion and wish I had a perfectly trained eye. In the absence of that, this does a terrific job simplifying techniques to get it right, or close enough to right. Also appreciate the tips about the shift key for a straight line and the straight line with scissors. I'm usually scrambling for a straight edge and almost always have scissors around. Never occurred to me.

I don't have a ruler and i try to avoid them. I don't want my lines to look too straight, because I feel they look like they lose some of the liveliness if drawn by a ruler. If I have to use something like a ruler, because the line is too long for me to draw by hand, I usually use the edge of a piece of paper or something like that. lol

The circle of the key would not be hard to draw after you drew the box, it has to fit precicely as it is once you have the box (unless you are doing something really wrong). Its math^^

This video and the part 2 to it are supposed to be his thought process... if he isn't a robot or high on meth he is going to be slow in explaining the train of thought he is on. It isn't supposed to be a school level lecture.. but just a guy explaining how he does something. I dont get how people can bitch about a free art lesson. Just my opinion.
