  • Today we don't just check out the build of the Lokius - we put it on a measurement rig and see how much it is impacted the frequency response with each dial! Cool stuff!

    I’ve used and loved my Lokius for eight months now and it never dawned on me that there was an issue with the size of the knobs. The only thing I noticed was the silky smooth feel of the knobs, the slight resistance, and a proper detent perfectly centered. I have also enjoyed that this thing is dead-nuts transparent in my system consisting of a Luxman Class A integrated amp and Bowers and Wilkins 805 D3 speakers. A lot of recordings need a little EQ love and this is the ideal unit to accomplish that. Just be sure to get 2 very good sets of interconnects to connect the Schiit. And yes, it has a small external wall plug power supply, but thankfully it’s just an AC step-down transformer (that’s why you specify your country’s voltage when ordering). The actual AC to DC power supply is in the chassis, and the unit gets a little warm because of it. Thank heavens Schiit didn’t use one of those little universal voltage switching wall worts that sound like 💩.

    I was never an EQ person as far as EQ Software Programs go... but the Lokius with the physical knobs is a different animal and fun to use. You feel like a Studio producer. I never cared about hitting Targets and Graphs for my headphones sound. I always let my ears decide where the sweet spot is on a headphone and what sound I like. The Lokius is great with a HP like the HD 800s that takes well to EQ where you can add some Bass or mellow out the treble if you are treble sensitive. The Lokius can make your stable of headphones do things you probably never thought were possible with them.

      @@gamingaudioguide9292 I have a triple Schiit setup (DAC/AMP/EQ), unfortunately the audio engine from Modern Warfare/Warzone and forward is really, really bad. So bad in fact that a $100 headphone isn't much different from a $600 headphone in terms of being able to hear footsteps. But if I decide to jump over to Black Ops 4 Blackout this setup is godly!!!

    Best explanation ever. This is by far the best way to understand what the EQ does. I don’t get it. Manufacturer missed so much useful information. In fact after watching this specific video, I decide it to buy it. Thanks so much hopefully you have more videos like this.

  • @harpotwitchell
    @harpotwitchell ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks! This is a really helpful review! I agree that it would be great if the manufacturer provided some of this data. Failing this, your video helps a lot. A small suggestion if you do a video like this again: I couldn't see the frequencies clearly, so I had to kind of guess while following your descriptions. I think it could help if you overlaid the frequency numbers at the top of the graph with a small highlight. That way we could follow visually what you are describing so well. Thanks again! Overall a really informative video!

    I really like the idea of a hardware EQ that you can make slight adjustments to on the fly. For listening to music, I imagine making tiny tweaks for certain tracks or even just based on your mood at the time. I think the drawback of the Lokius would be for people that own multiple headphones and like to switch between them. You would likely have an EQ preference for each headphone so you would need to manually adjust the EQ each time you swap headphones. A software EQ gives you the ability to store presets for different headphones.

    • @craiglevine7019
      @craiglevine7019 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Software EQ has an artificial/electronic/digital tone to it once pushed that I can't un-hear once I hear it. The Lokius is fun to us use and the tone enhancements are smooth. I adjust based on the music and/or headphones I listen to and it's not a big deal. If you want presets (x3), there's the Loki Max. I have the Loki Mini + in my Mac Studio Max headphone rig and the Lokius in my main headphone stack (Mac Mini-> S.M.S.L M300SE->Lokius->Freya N->Asgard 3 with 4 different headphones and I can't imagine either of my stacks without a Loki-something as part of the chain.

    Excellent review - you have delved a good deal deeper than many of the other reviews for this eq - indeed, if not all.
    Please would you be so kind and let me know if this unit produces hiss/hum when the dials are rotated away from their zero/neutral position (this was highlighted as an issue on the Loki max..)
    I have both of this product in the running as a potential purchase for my home stereo, so any guidance would be gratefully received

    ugh. I have the magnius and modius and just ordered this! RIP my wallet. Great video though and what do you think of bass response with Senheizer vs BD? I know Sen is pretty much non responsive to bass but I've also never tried BD and I've held out hope that it's clean and present. Maybe I'm wrong?

  • @walterdel5490
    @walterdel5490 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is really good information! wish Schiit would offer it as an average, or benchmark; understanding that each room and speakers have their own profile. I am curious about the frequency response curve when turning the dial below "neutral". ALso the "Q" factor is a bit too wide with a lot of overlap between knobs making it too imprecise.

    • @craiglevine7019
      @craiglevine7019 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Per Jason Stoddard at Schiit, who designed it, the intent is not for it to be an EQ that you use to tweak specific, narrow frequencies (like a 31-band EQ). It's intended to be a tone enhancer, a task at which it excels.

      Might be a bit hit and miss for you because the dials have some overlap. It's like applying salt and pepper shakers rather than using a very measuring cup to add.
      I use my lokius with peace eq in case I need to really dial something in. If you add mids you need to compensate somewhat with other knobs too depending on the end result

      It doesn't affect soundstage. It is a great improvement over the 4 knob. You can adjust playback to suit your personal taste. You can use this to compensate for weak recordings, including older live recordings. You can use this to compensate for listening at different volume levels. It is a really great product.
