You didn't had to use boost converter to step down voltage to 5V. Most IC-s actually work with 5VDC so you could probably find 5V source somewhere on the main board. However your solution is way simpler. I did it hard way on my old JVC stereo (not a car stereo) and it took me hours with pokimg around powered on unit with DMM to find reliable 5V source. .
I keep asking myself how i want a new radio but not one of those ridiculous colorful ones, and i find this, with the same radio i have in my blazer! Hah!
YES! you have to have CD to trick radio its playing something. I put mine or repeat and i dont have to worry about messing with it. Also, quick update, stereo still works as it did.
@@sideproject4028 you might not see this but could you use the AM station instead of CD? Only reason I ask is because my CD player no longer works. Amazing work man!
This guy is a mad scientist

Great project. Where can I find the pinouts for a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix?
The radios look different on the outside but pontiac and gm radios are identical internally
do you have to put a CD in to trick the radio think it's playing the cd
I wondered the same thing. Any answer?
I have seen other guys do it w/o the CD, but I don't remember who it was. But it was on TH-cam.

Can this be done to a factory unit out of a 2004 Cadillac Escalade?
the 2004 trucks use a different head unit but can probably be modified through similar means
