I do like these videos with this gentlemen, he seems so knowledgeable and he calmly explains things that go way over my head, I have so much more to learn.

Why don't more people use the 270? I've posed that question on a forum without getting anything close to a comprehensive explanation. Wouldn't a 270wsm, even a win, be ballistically superior to the 308? It is a long action in win form but not wsm so that argument is null. As far as I can tell, you get a 1:8 twist on a 26'+ custom barrel, and shoot those heavy matrix bullets or the ELDs, or better yet if the bullet was made, a berger option, and wala, you have yourself a long range target/ sniper rifle that functions better then damn near anything in it's class. I'm taking account FELT recoil (not "measured), velocity, BC, and trajectory. I've used the ballistic calulators and feel that the 270win is very under rated. Best explanation was that the 270 was very popular for hunting with the late O'Conner and no one wants to beat a dead horse or take his spot. I feel in the day of 6.5cm rage, the 308's only saving grace is in it's vintage and AR forms, otherwise a 270win hands down... I really would like reasoning as to why the 308 is still used outside of culture and AR platforms... Why this upsets me is because I can buy any savage I want in 308 but they have 1 gun in 270wsm that I doubt I could ever get my hands on.... to me that's just plain stupid.

I went through every major cartridge and wrote the bullets id want loads for. the 270 beat the rest I choose(mostly small bore,no 30s), I was pleasantly surprised. an example is, say I got a rem700 in 22-250, id be limited to the 50gr bullets in the vast pool of 22 cal bullet ranges. to take advantage of the 30cal options youd also need a faster twist 308 then the 1:10 and some are 1:11. with my new 24' 1:10 270 I can use 90gr-150gr with same barrel. options include 110gr varmint/match, 110-150sst, berger 130-150vld, 145eld-x, 135hpbt matchking, etc. p.s. I'm typing with a mouse on a screen keyboard right now so that's messing meup (no keybrd)

Dexter, how do you get the mouse to hit the right keys? Those little paws and the lack of language skills......

.308 is an international standard and required by the rules

Just speculation here, an idea of mine. Attach four cords radiating from near end of barrel, with springs on ends, so while aiming, rifle is under tension, pulls away

What is the make and model of that bolt rifle?

Chris Morlock looks like an RPA stock, barrel could be anything but most likely RPA as well

It's a custom build: The action is a Barnard, made in New Zealand, probably the Model P. The stock looks like a Mastin, which is made in Australia. The rearsight is definitely a Warner (US made by Al Warner) but I couldn't tell you which model. The foresight is a RightSight (also US made.) I see to remember the Brian uses Bartlein Barrels (US made) but I don't know that for a fact.

I have the poor man's variants these two rifles: Remington 700 Varmint in 308 with a NF scope and a 1375 Wichita Palma rifle in 308.
    Be well
