Rachel Fairfield Christopher Lloyd (not the actor) was a producer/writer on the Golden Girls and in an interview which is somewhere on youtube he stated that many people involved with the show felt that Bea's dislike of Betty actually stemmed from jealousy.
Bea always loved Betty. During breaks they both went to lunch together at the studio cafeteria and they were also close when both of their mothers died at the same time. Even her son Mathew Saks said that Bea and Betty were friends and I believe Mathew. I do not think he would lie about his mother. Both of her sons loved Bea and would not lie for her. So, I do not believe in gossip or tabloid rumors.
Betty said, on Larry King Live, that Bea didn't like her because she didn't think she was professional enough. Rue Maclanahan also said there was tension because Better won the Emmy before Bea did. Angela Lansbury, Bea Arthurs best friend, has said she was not the easiest woman to get along with.
Great ladies! Love them both. Despite what Betty has said I don't believe the beef was anything real serious. Just personally differences. That happens from time to time but doesn't mean people hate each other.
I honestly don't believe they had "beef" like that either. If anything, they may have had personality clashes like many family members do but nothing more. The chemistry between them and the entire show would not have been anywhere near as great if Bea had this so called dislike for Betty. You can't find not one video or one piece of writing where Bea confirms these rumors. Not even one. I also find it highly suspicious that these rumours only came out after she passed away

Bea would often get quite frustrated with various aspects of Betty's personality, including her penchant for breaking during tapings to play with the studio audience. She also thought that she could be somewhat fake on occasion. However, she would refuse to get dinner during their dinner break on show nights unless Betty came with her.
