I never thought that Carroll Baker was so articulate and had so many fascinating things to say about her career. Loved her in Giant and Cheyenne Autumn. She deserves more recognition for her work.
she also has a delightful sense of humor, did a series of Q&A's a couple year back to tie in with a mystery book that she wrote that is here on youtube. When asked about a couple films she did, had some sweet anecdotes followed by "yet another film where I'm the sole survivor"
Great interview of a truly accomplished actress. One of the reasons this is a great interview is because the interviewer lets Ms. Baker actually answer the questions without interrupting her. I learned a lot about Ms. Baker and old Hollywood. I wish more informational interviewers were like the one here. To me a solid informational interviewer does at least 3 things well: Does some research of his or her subject, formulates good questions, and listens more than talks. Otherwise it can turn into a debate, argument, etc. Also, for this interview, it helps the subject was articulate and willing to discuss her career and life. Kudos to Ms. Baker and the interviewer.
She is so well spoken and intelligent. I loved this interview. All of the actors from the “ golden age” of Hollywood are so very important. Even the ones before sound, during it , and up to today, are such a source of invaluable knowledge. We should cherish them and appreciate their contributions and memories. Carroll Baker is underrated and deserves to be recognized as a great actress and so beautiful.

Carroll Baker has a natural & unaffected intelligence combined with common sense & this allows her to tell her story in an accessible manner. I respect that she did not allow Hollywood to guide every aspect of her career. Baby Doll learned & became a mature voice for her generation.
Unlike Shirley Knight she WAS paid (decently) for her work and unlike Marilyn Monroe she WAS accepted (early on) into the Actors Studio. Marilyn had to audit and pay privately for lessons with Paula and Lee Strasberg. Marilyn`s life was interfered with so she was always on tenterhooks. Marilyn Monroe was murdered. Big diff. Victimization separates and defines people. This becomes more transparent daily. The Big `E` likes Baker, despised Marilyn.
Great interview! she comes across very well, the interviewer was very good, most people would have gotten side tracked when Marilyn Monroe story came up, but the interviewer went right back to her subject.

I can never bring myself to accept Carroll Baker as a sex-symbol because she was more than ever a very sensitive artiste, who radiated confidence. An alumni from the Lee Strasberg School of Acting in New York city coupled with stage work, she learned the grammar of acting: The elevation of the individual, the retreat into the self to re-emerge more focused, more energized. She played in a minor role in the Esther Williams' starrer: Easy to love before hitting the big time with Baby Doll as a sexually naive teen which earned her an Oscar nod and and a Golden Globe win. Carroll was so versatile, she did not let her work ossify into any classifiable style. She always brought a muscular dimension to roles that, without her presence, might have had little substance. She had major outings in films: The Big country, How the west was won, Cheyenne Autumn, Something Wild, But not for me and Bridge to the sun. Her character in The Miracle [where she played a nun] was so layered and charismatic that she raised the stakes and left her male co-stars [Roger Moore and Vittoria Gasman] looking like a bunch of ancillaries. It was not just a performance, but a reincarnation of her character. There was purity and a glow on her face that was inescapable. The sex-symbol tag came with The Carpetbaggers which was a hit. This was followed by Harlow, Station Six Sahara and Sylvia [panned by critics, but I loved it]. In this film, she expertly exposed her ragged character's deep wounds. With unflinching resolve, she never begged for any salve. Still she remained the emotional centre of gravity in all sequences. Ms. Carroll Baker was a very classy lady.
Nobody mentioned Bridge to the Sun which was a true story of an interracial marriage about a japanese diplomat and a young American. Showed her acting ability and charm and beauty to finally present her as the great talent she is. So beautiful and sweet

In Giant, Carol Baker wore the most beautiful gown I have ever seen, I would love to have it! It's the white one that she wears at the big convention/party for Jet. Every time I watch Giant I wish I could have it. Now that I'm 59, it wouldn't look good on me at all, but, a girl still has her dreams!!!

A while ago I was very saddened to see a badly informed video on You Tube which claimed Carroll had passed on and came to an unpleasant end.😢😮 it did not say on Google she had passed on! Since then I have discovered this type of thing is more common than you would think! Whoever makes these sad misinformed videos must be sick!!
Personally, I think Harlow could have been a good film if it was entirely fictitious. It’s main criticism was that it was not true to life, but biopics rarely are. Hollywood versions of history tend to be overfill of artistic licence.
Since Carroll mentions Marilyn Monroe it might be worth mentioning something. The true crime magazine Murder Most Foul had a front page report entitled Was Marilyn Murdered? There are good reasons to believe she was. In the most recent issue of this magazine I have had a letter published entitled Stardoms Deadly Destiny. Two photos of Marilyn accompany my letter, one showing her as she looked when she was very famous, the other as she looked when she was found dead.😢😢
Marilyn and Dorothy Kilgallen were both Mob hits to cover up the assassination of JFK. Marilyn had a diary and Kilgallen had a notebook filled with her assassination research leading to the Sam Giancana Chicago crime family, The Outfit. J. I've commented on that very thing elsewhere. To me, Carroll's voice was just drop dead sexy. And beyond beautiful.
