I adore Ann Miller. Played her rehearsals, went on the road, as pianist.
    She taught me lot.
However, her impeccable memory was enhanced by time gone by. Makes no difference. She always gave her all.
    She was a true star❤❤❤❤❤

Not just one of the greatest dancers ever and a delightful star, Ann Miller was a riveting raconteur. She comes across as truthful, with terrific recall, extremely observant of all the important little details and clues with interesting snippets that make you feel as if you were there. She's candid and revealing without ever being snide or betraying confidences. Very clever lady who continues to thrill us years after she's gone.

    What an absolute joy.
I could listen to Miss Miller for hours. No fake false modesty. Gives credit where credit is due. Fascinating.
And despite her own words she was a huge star prior to Broadway success.
They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
Thank you so much for posting.
    A rare treat.

I was at the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, I think New Years Day 1954, when she was the Queen that year. She was just so beautiful and was waving to everyone. It was cloudy and raining. I loved her then but after watching this interview I respect and love her even more. What a life she had.

I love the story of how she got her start in the business. Something I didn't know until after screening "Stage Door" and learning more about it. It is amazing to me that, in my opinion, in retrospect and in working with the likes of very established actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, and Eve Arden among others, she stole the limelight and stole the show. That winning smile, her amazingly athletic dance style and her enormous energy just radiated through the screen and left me in awe of her. She was such a beautiful woman and so very talented. She had it all and more, and she was a heavenly angel who graced us with her presence here on Earth. We are so thankful for you Ann. Wonderful!❤️💃❤️

If you notice when watching these TCM interviews that run between the movies , the interviews all have the same sort of look to them. TCM was just getting started around 1994-95 and they must have interviewed all the great stars of the golden era of Hollywood still alive at that time so we can enjoy listening to the great stories these wonderful actors could pass on to us. TCM is the best !

Hard to believe she sat at Walt’s table the night he won for Snow White, since Walt didn’t go to the Academy Awards often; it makes sense she’d be with Walt’s table since her first picture was 1938, which was when Snow White was released. It was also great to see her at the opening of MGM Studios in ‘89 and her role in Follies. I consider her was one of the best dressed in Hollywood. It’s my hope TCM will maybe offer a subscription service or DVD set of these interviews, because this is history and needs to be preserved

Thanks too TCM I've been made aware of all these wonderful performers from the 30s and 40s. From my grandmother and mother's time. Today I see a lack of talent in Hollywood, compared to the entertainers who performed during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Where are the Gregory Peck's, Charlton Heston and Robert Mitchum's today? George Clooney doesn't come close to the handsome, masculine Clark Gable! Clooney is like a bad imatation! The women were so beautiful back then. Ava Gardener, Rita Hayworth, Hedy Lamar you just don't see that beauty anymore today.

Man there was such high standards I bet a lot of talent went unnoticed. Luckily like she said another of works were filmed so now many stars are getting their day in the lights.
Now about that age thing. . . They dam well knew. They all knew. They could of easily figured it out. They knew.
The girls all lied and the men all wanted them young.

What a pro! Very interesting, her estimation that she didn't become a star until Sugar Babies. Many of us thought she was a star after the dance with Ginger Rogers in Stage Door. I'm sorry they never mentioned her work for David Lynch at the very end of her career -- I wonder what she thought of him! Or perhaps was this interview in "95 before she met him?

Ann was a star by public acclaim before she pitched up at MGM. For whatever reason she was never given the leading role in their musicals. She was used as box office insurance, injecting a few minutes of exciting dance into a film whose stars might be singers rather than hoofers, e.g. Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson as she says in this interview.
Ann looked hot, hotter as she headed for 30. She was good enough to sing without dubbing, and was nifty in comedic scenes. She had proved at RKO and Columbia that she could carry a film. It is incredible that she was so often billed down the cast list. Shame on MGM.

Ann Miller was an amazing talent. Entertaining until she was 80 years old. Could you imagine how much longer Miller would have lived if she did not smoke? She could have performed until the age of 100 and then said "I'm ready to retire, I earned it."

You're mistaken...Ann only said that Ginger Rogers nicknamed her "String Bean" in her personal life. Lucille Ball played the character "Judy Canfield" not "String Bean"... Ann played "Annie" in that film.

I never believed that story about pretending to be 18 but actually being only 13. She just knocked five years off her age as she started to age and made up that story.

Sad things happened to her, but she always bounced back bc she had 'positive mental attitude'. 'Sugar Babies' gave her the leading-lady status Hollywood had denied her. Very satisfying.

She used to cart a pier glass on set to check she was lit right from all sides. DPs used to joke that they could take time off when Marlene's close-ups were on the schedule.
