    It's crazy what is available for flight simmers nowadays. Prior to getting back into it this year, I hadn't been flying since the early 2000s. Back then, the options were few and far between. Heck, you still had to buy charts on CD and print them out if you wanted them. Now I'm sitting here flying with real world weather (well, Asobo's version of real world weather - hehehe) with my flight plan on a laptop showing my exact location. What a time to be alive. ;)

    Also SimBrief gives detailed reports of weather and special NOTAMS for the departure and arrival airport. Any recent hazards are also detailed. It really is great and goes directly into MSFS!

    Great video! Thanks!
    Also: Windy.com has an airport button in the bottom right that you can turn on to see all of the major airports. I use it to get my TBM 930 quickly to the airport of my choice.

    I think I'm going to have to watch this a few times to catch all the info!

    Useful information as always!

    I find this all very confusing. Maybe actual weather and forecasts become relevant in the future, but as long as MS doesn't fix live weather including different wind patterns in different altitudes, I won't use any of those sites. LittleNAVMap is the way to go imho. Requires a little bit of setup, but you can plan your flight based on the information that is available in MSFS (or other Sims) export it, and with a little bit of luck MSFS will load the flight plan. No need for any additional ressources atm.

      I use Simbrief in combination with LittleNavMap for IFR flights, and LNM for VFR. It is all I need.

    Great list of websites, going to use them a lot. However I wish you would zoom in a bit when discussing examples you are looking up on those websites. My eyesight isn't that good anymore and even with squinting I can barely read it.

    Idea for a video - how to read/use/know when to use approach/departure charts.

    Wouldn't it be great if there was a SkyVector moving map and flight plan downloader that works with MSFS 2020?
    Well there is both. Check out MoMadenU
    /msfs2020-skyvector and MoMadenU
    /msfs2020-flight-plan-converter on GitHub. (P. Gatcomb please allow shameless plug :-)

    I’d also recommend FlightAware. It shows the routes of real-world flights.

    • @Djeez2
      @Djeez2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simbrief suggests routes based on FlightAware routes. Outside the US the flightaware routes are sparse (only departure and arrival airports)

      @@Djeez2 I understand, but the only problem is when you want to depart or arrive at smaller airport, SimBrief doesn’t always recognize the ICAO Codes. I can’t think of a specific example, but that has happened to me several times, and I’ve had to plan the route without SimBrief for that reason.

    • @Djeez2
      @Djeez2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevindavis8175 I see. I never had the experience of an unknown ICAO code in Simbrief, probably because I only fly IFR from larger airports. VFR from small airports Simbrief is not intended for.

    11:42 isnt that an anti-cyclon? So a high pressure area, not a depression?
    But nice list of tools, thaks for that!

    As for now I’m missing some proper vfr maps and planing tools, especially when it comes to control zones and it’s entry points, right now I’m using a mishmash of navigraph, openglightmaps,org but outside of Europe you’re screwed, couldn’t find something useful for Scandinavia, UK let alone the US and Asia. Any idea?
    As long as MSFS is so bugged with some airplanes and the Ingame ifr flightplaning/autopilot functions it’s not much fun to use. For VFR on the other hand it’s a bliss and sometimes, if not most times, a optical marvel!

    I use Navigraph for most of my IFR flights. But one thing I'm missing there is calculation of TOC and TOD. Is there any method, tool or website you would recommend for that except for simbrief?

    Sorry to be mean but this video has the worst thumbnail in TH-cam history. Stick some text on it and get some more views, because I'm sure it's good stuff as usual.
