  • I haven’t swum in a week and NEED some exercise, so first stop? Finding a swimming pool. 💦
After rolling off the MSC Grandiosa, I hit the streets of Palermo. Some people say it is amazing, others call it a dump. What do you think? Let me know below! 👇

I don’t think the pool was closed,( if it was,why were there 6 people behind the desk)🤷‍♀️,I think they saw you in a wheelchair and couldn’t be bothered with the logistics of getting you in the pool.or am I being too cynical 🤷‍♀️great video👍😃

With that hospital look, and a bit of what I've seen something like that other places in Europe, I don't think it's a public pool, but a swimming pool for rehablitation clinic. What I got from the background in the video is it seems to be "Societa Polisportiva Palermo" and that are listed as a rehablitation clinic.
I think the "closed", is just due to poor english on the staff there, and couldn't explain why it is not open for everyone coming in.
Edit: yeah, I confirmed it was the rehab clinic, by watching his screenshot at 3:11

I noticed a lot of trophies in that room so it might be a private facility for sports.
Edited: Never mind... I just read the comment before this one. Half right, lol

It really sucks you couldn't even enjoy simple things like swimming or going to a park. But, hey! You found a good bathroom!
This series is making me realise how inaccessible places really are. Usually, accessibility is something I overlook, but I've come to realise it really IS important! Hope you have better luck in Naples

it wasn't until i came across your channel that i really understood just how inaccessible europe really is. like i knew on some level because of how old these cities are, i just never really understood how deep it went. i mostly assumed it was just the major attractions where preservation prevents any sort of modernization.

6:15 you are right, there was a period were Palermo was better, but it was hundreds of years ago, compered to decades ago now the city is cleaner, (ironic, because trash around is visible, but the city is in a better state than the 60s/70s)

Sometimes you just have to take joy in the little things like good food and a good bathroom. ;-)

@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD 100%!!! on top of the fact that I have watched the other videos in the series and know that you cant even use the pools on the ship. So when I saw that you were headed to one at a port of call I was like yay and then the wtf followed.

How much was this cruise? Just trying to factor that in when thinking about the types of locations it's going to, but maybe it gets better.

If you are still looking for a pool to swim in, would it be worth researching wheelchair friendly hotels at your stop off points that offer day passes?

Yup. Did that. Turned out the first one was closed. It's also super tricky with websites in Italian. :P

I haven’t been abroad but I know what it is like been a wheelchair user and all the obstacles and frustration I live in a place called York in the UK 🇬🇧 and it is the worst city for wheelchair users you can’t get in many shops as there are cages etc in the way , most of the shops are not wheelchair accessible and to top it off some shops have ramps but then they they have steps or no lift so you have to leave because I have a child the children’s are either upstairs or down some steps and the staff just say “ we will bring the things to you “ . As it’s historical a lot of the paths are uneven or broken , atms aren’t low for wheelchair users . I hate it its depressing and not fair they should have someone on the council that is disabled and who can check the town and make it wheelchair accessible. Even the markets we have so difficult exspecially the Christmas market there is no way a wheelchair user can enjoy it
Same with cruise ships etc they should have someone on the team that’s disabled that checks everything when been built and make an itinerary that suits disabled people it’s not hard . . But I will say your doing amazing bringing all this to light and I hope they do something about it .

Jeez the side-eyes of those women at the pool! Considering the reviews (cockroaches, run-down, dirty,...) I think you were lucky the first one was closed. This cruise really sounds awful so far, something I wouldn't even do as a person who is not in a wheelchair.
