From curbs with two inch lips to stone paved roads that feel like an obstacle course, accessibility is definitely a challenge. I also share some helpful tips along the way.
Find out at the end what I rate the footpaths out of 5 stars!

Wow this is great. South Australia now has quite a few accessible beaches, although not as sophisticated as this set up. We also have surfing for the disabled programs during the summer. inclusive.sa.gov.au/inclusion-in-action/beach-access-for-all
Thank you for showing that you can go right up to the Mona Lisa in a wheelchair I was so worried about my dad not being able to see it
This is exactly why I always doubt whether I should take my smartdrive with me on holiday. It's so much hassle when traveling, but without my smartdrive I have to rely on someone to push me. I'm sorry this happend to you
Really nice man!😊
That's amazing! I want to go!! I will go.
wow cool
Kamari black sand beach on Santorini has wheelchair access to the water :)
So cool you got to do that in somewhere accessible. I am from a town in Brazil where they have a similar project, if I am not mistaken since 2013. Its there all year long, friday and weekends... And during summer it's everyday. Same idea, the accessible chairs to reach the ocean, the mat, volunteers, lifeguards all of it. Australia's main beaches really need to have similar projects. They have so much structure for able-bodied people. Hope your word gets out there.
This is a superb post ... don't get me wrong but I'm not an OAP yet.... but the services laid on for the elderly / disabled is exceptional...!!!!
The mayor of Antibes is a famous cardiologue.
It would never happen in the UK, the government don't care about people with disabilities sadly x
Sorry to hear.
Glad to see that you got to enjoy time on the beach and in the water! Wonderful, you are showing people what's possible. Keep having fun. Aloha. 🌺
A nice alternative to hop-on-hop-off! Less hopping! (Shane, is it time you introduced your travel companion to us? He is a fine cameraman.)
Very cool! Will recommend. ☺️
Now thats cool x
I would call the booking agent that was used and get them to find a new room somewhere else with no extra cost. They messed up the booking by not making sure it was accessible
Thank you so much for your honest video! I'm a wheelchair user and travel to London UK a lot, i now stay at the same hotel - meets my accessible needs so well - but sometimes it'd be nice to try somewhere else for a change ~ although the fear of this happening has stopped that thought going any further 🤣 and communication is so dang important too...i email for pics and if they say they have none, that's fine as my business will go elsewhere. They should have had the decency to contact you to say there was no availability. It isn't hard!!
I don’t think it’s his business whether or not the people in those rooms have disabilities. That said, I do feel bad for him and the hotel should accommodate him elsewhere if they can’t at their facilities.
You didn't read the description huh?
Terrible that this happened. Unfortunately it is all too common. Glad to see the hotel reviews are taking a hit.
I hear this so much, in the UK, they don't care if you're disabled or not. Sorry this happened, the world don't aways fit us dose it.
The real question comes here; do our systems or the people have real disability???? Really disgusting and pathetic behaviour by the management 😮😮 You should move legally in my opinion.
I like your chair, where can I buy it?
I've visited Lake Garda last year, maybe it's time for Lake Como next year.😊 With my poor balance I would be able to go only forward on that boat 😅
Glad to see you having fun making waves!
Loved u spotted a house w/ a ramp!
A boat I would love that, but mostly likely I would crash lol
You had a great day, I’d say very similar ride amount that I as a non wheelchair user experience. 👍 for Inclusivity.
What a quality video ! You deserve more subscribers !
Eight pounds is not bad for a pizza that size near a place like that. Also nice that you could get on a boat lovin' this.

I love their idea of accessibility. Most places in Europe are the same. Some ramps in Spain are so funny because they are at angles that are scary.
We are going to Bali in 3 weeks with my 18 year old son who uses a wheelchair. Thank you so much for this inspirational, informative video!!! Happy adventures 😊
Do you just throw the chair in the back? How do you get it out? Genuinely curious as my daughter is getting ready to learn to drive!
I wanted to visit this place for yrs....so sad. I imagine there's a nicer spot but wow the pollution. No bueno. PS. Have you been to Annecy, France? That's another pretty mountain lake town known for its "stunning beauty."
Gosh, that's terrible. I wanted to go, but wow not so sure now.
Hahaha. “Grab your pearls!” I must remember that safety maneuver!
Good for you for going on an adventure and seeing some of the best sights in the world!
This is honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Have you been?
@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD It's on my bucket list to make it to Chamonix, France. Although I have been to Interlaken, and Lugano, Switzerland which I think is spectacular. Is Switzerland next on your travel list? Aloha from Hawaii
I would be scared to do that, your brave lol
I won’t lie it was a little bit terrifying going out into the glass box. Definitely worth it. Have you been?
@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD No. But the places you keep showing I really want to go now.
Thanks Shane for this terrific insight into your wheel assist. I was wondering how it connected and this clip was really helpful. Maybe you could tell us about how you manage it at the airport. Is there a bag for it? How do you manage all the other stuff (luggage back pack and the Pico). Or do you have a wonderful entourage that handles everything? lol If you have, I sure haven’t seen any signs of them.
Thanks for reaching out! I actually don’t use a travel bag for the SmartDrive-it fits nicely in the overhead, and the Pico power assist goes under the plane. It does make me a bit nervous about potential damage, but fortunately, everything has held up pretty well on this latest adventure. Do you have a power assist?
Thanks for that.
My pleasure. what’s your favourite video?
@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD The ones in Japan. Its a place I really want to go. At least I have some knowledge now. x
Hello, I'm a new subscriber and would like to learn more about the wheelchair you use to travel. I will be traveling soon and am currently shopping for one. Love your channel, btw.
G'day my Aussie friend, the streets of France treating you to some bone shakers today lol
It is upsetting you had to go through that. I flew with Asiana Airlines to Korea twice, but I haven’t experienced this despite also owning two lithium batteries. I think it really depended on the battery capacity.
The wheelchair was not a big giveaway that you where disabled then lol
😂😂😂
It looks wonderful! Glad you had a brilliant time.
What a great way to enjoy a day in the park, with a picnic. All the food looks so yummy. Enjoy!
If you get stuck in one of these again, there should be an emergency stop button to let you out!
I had a very similar adventure this spring. Two weeks in Japan then Haneda to Gimpo for a few days. Can't wait to visit again!
That was an unexpected journey. xx
