Fun fact: Once humidity hits 100%, water will not evaporate into the air anymore (at least not easily), so sweating won't cool you off (it's the evaporating sweat that carries heat away) plus you'll mostly stay sweaty even if you rest.
I live in the Dutch city of Dordrecht, which is a fairly popular stop for river cruises nowadays. On my evening walks I like to gaze through the windows of the ships to get a sense of what life is like on board. But your excellent, in depth video is what my curiosity really needed. So, thank you Emma!
I took the Venetian cruise in early August 2023 when it was indeed a warm summer, and I have travelled on Uniworld previously. La Venetzia was definitely my favourite. Beautifully done and after being at “duck level” on the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam cruise, I chose never to book that level again…too short to see out the higher windows! The level above yours , Emma, gave me a large window to view the Guidecca Canal. I was fortunate not to face the customs building on the other side of the ship. I loved the excursions and learning about the history and culture from Louisa, our tour guide. It was my second visit to Venice, so I knew what I wanted to see . After the tour on the last day of the Mask Ateliers work shop, I had a private tour on the Grand Canal for an hour. An absolute treat! This was one of my most enjoyable experiences with Uniworld. I was able to take advantage of a solo rate, and booked just a couple of months prior. Because I was right on the water, not only was my view any time of the day very interesting but the heat was not very overwhelming. I would not hesitate to recommend this ‘floating hotel’ experience. As a 73 year old from western Canada, this was so enjoyable.
re the padded walls... when we stayed in a posh hotel in Venice the walls there were also covered in stretched fabric "wallpaper" held about 1/4" the actual wall... I think this may be a Venice area thing designed to reduce condensation of damp air on cool walls.
We did this cruise and loved it. Disembarked before the MSC giant ran into the ship. Uniworld is a great line. Have been on 4 of their ships. Interiors are different but the hospitality is uniformly great.
Yes, when I moved from California to New York I adjusted to the winter pretty quickly but my god, the HUMIDITY. Ufff. Growing up, my dad who was stationed on Saipan in the Coast Guard, would always say "At least it's a DRY heat" and I didn't understand until experiencing humidity. I could never survive in the south lol.
Did we ask about California? Americans always oversharing some tidbit about their state when the video has zero to do with California. And every other TH-cam commenter not living in the USA (even those in the UK and Australia) will mention country first, Americans assume the entire world knows their states. Thankfully it’s California not South Dakota. SMH I guess I should be happy you didn’t use abbreviations so thank you!
@@KrisKk08 Emma mentioned that she met some Californians in this video who were struggling with the humidity too. That's why I mentioned it, just trying to engage. I didn't mention the country as neither did Emma. Again, just engaging in a discourse.
Hi Emma- nice review. We sailed with Uniworld on the Danube- booked a suite so our young adult son could be in the same room- they offered him an empty cabin for free when they saw how tall he was but he rather liked the Nespresso machine in the suite…. We had a butler who brought us breakfast every day, did our laundry and my brought up husband’s favorite bourbon in a crystal decanter… he drank very little of it. It was very nice, very over-the-top. In the end, we felt we could get higher-quality tours on our own, and didn’t really like the lounge-type entertainment, and didn’t take much advantage of the free booze. I thought it was a nice fun, high-end party boat. Viking is probably more our cup of tea. I also agree the bike tour took a degree of skill and energy. There were some avid cyclists who weren’t kind to the less skilled… so I’d steer clear of that unless I was fairly good.
Having worked in a pizza shop with no sit down area, the 100% humidity would have had the pizza kitchen crew boiled. Pizza ovens usually run at 500° fahrenheit. Even with ventilation running full tilt, they would have cooked themselves!
Yep, it can be freezing outside and you walk down to the pizza place on the corner in a T-shirt and while you wait for you pizza, you are still too hot.
Thank you Emma! I love all the details you share because they're so important and I learn a lot. I'm planning on taking a river cruise soon and this really helps . You are so funny and enjoyable to watch!
That was fun to watch. The ship was indeed beautiful, in a retro kind of way. I’d definitely enjoy it. Having your room at the water level looked fun to watch out the window.
I've been thinking of taking a river cruise with my daughter. We have to include international flights from Australia. It's bonkers just for a week or two. But I love the idea of visiting places that are nothing like home.
It is definitely worth the long travel and so different to our holidays and experiences in Australia. I have done 2 separate river cruises, a Xmas market one with my Mum in 2019 & one with my husband in May this year. Our Xmas market trip was through Trip a deal and at the time really good value.
If you get bounced on by a tiger, we'll be saying, yep, it was the first time Emma forgot to look behind an unlocked door. You always have me watching even when it's a cruise that's not high on my potential vacation plans.
Just really enjoyed your reports on this trip..I love your sense of humor and travel pace...one can learn how to go yet do their own thing watching your reports..very neat you could go with your dad.
I always enjoy your videos, I find it funny that you mentioned the humidity being 100%, I live in Michigan, in the US and we have that percentage a lot in the summer with the heat also at 100° its quite exhausting to have humidity that high, in summer here we stay usually above 90% most of the time...... I'm glad you always find your cookies on your cruises. 🍪🍪🍪 Thank you for sharing all your fun!!
Lovely vlog as usual Emma. It looked a superb river cruise. From accommodation to decor and food. You give such a great commentary journey through your experience with your honest opinion always. The heat was something I would struggle with, I would have ended up like your chocolate bar too. Love your sense of humor . Loved your matching outfits for the 70s themed night. Shame about the cycling tour. Great to hear your take on it, being an “undercover budget cruiser” Thank You for sharing
Not watched one of these for a while, forgot how good you are at these, looking to book my first cruise now, thank you you make it look sooooo relaxing 👏👍🤙👌🤘✌🖖
Hi Emma, Glad to see you took a Uniworld cruise. I have taken 9 river cruises, 4 of them on Uniworld. As a matter of fact my first Uniworld cruise from Vienna to Bucharest was on the same ship you were on, The River Countess back then. I thought I heard you say that the ship you were on was there for decades but that couldn't be as my cruise was in 2010. Please excuse me if I heard you wrong.
Emma thank you for posting this interesting video about the luxury river cruise. I have done a lot of crusing including one river cruise, but none were as luxurious as this river cruise. Also enjoyed your live stream this morning!
Hey Emma. Have never sailed a river cruise. Oh my. You really have a water view. Was that noisy? The cabins look regal. Emma you have 🍪 radar 😂. Don’t know if I’ve ever experienced 100% humidity. That must’ve been uncomfortable indeed. Only 5 ppl left on the ship. Nice they could prepare meals accordingly. Oh a laundry. Nice. An unused speciality restaurant? Like that they emailed you with nightly themes. 5 o’clock too early for us. 7pm dinner is perfect. Oh yes. Great bread 🥖 and 🧈 makes a difference. A cycling excursion is different. Oh E bikes 🚲. So $5200/person. It’s like paying upfront for the drinks and excursions. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully soon we’ll try. My husband is interested in a river cruise.
Hi Emma! First, your fashions were terrific. The "featured" dress (blue palm leaves) is terrific and you look great in a shorter dress. I also loved the long one with stretch bodice, and I wanted to see the front of the pink (fuschia?) dress that we saw from behind at the rail. Also loved the black and white stripey dress. I think you should wear more jewelry around your neck. Nothing gaudy but a simple amulet on a chain or a light necklace would add a lot. ANYWAY, the cruise looks great. We need to get you dancing! I might have gone up one deck with the cabin because on a cruise like this, the view is the thing. I noticed, though, that you spent a lot of time up on deck, and those deck couches looked VERY comfortable, so I'm sure you took in the views. Loved the Venetian decor. I might have to put his one on my list!
I grew up in California and lived for 10 years in Florida, and I will take the California heat anytime. It's a dry heat, whereas Florida can get to 100% humidity in the summer weekly.
Emma. I have hosted Travel for senior citizens for about 11 years. River cruises are very popular because they are EASY🎶‼️👍. I have to comment that the decor of those rooms are like nothing I have ever seen. What a treat. Now that we are retirement age I will be looking for UNIWORLD. your posts are always welcome and very well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎉🎉💗🎶‼️
I would love to do a river cruise someday, but they seem so expensive. The ease of just getting off the ship and walking around a new city sounds amazing.
That looked like such a fun way to explore Venice! I’ve only cruised once which was a Nile river cruise. It really does start to feel like you are just a big group of friends that rented out the boat. I can’t lie, I kind of love that cabin. Def not boring to look at!
I think it sounds wonderful, except I would get nauseous from the walls in your room. I would have also appreciated a pool. I love that you and your Dad wore matching outfits. 2k including flights, transfers, drinks, and excursions is definitely worth it!!!
Thanks for the great video! Love the way you answer questions that we travelers have even before I think about it...if it makes sense😃 Uniworld is on my bucket list...they do have a ship that's more contemporary than the "over-the-top" Luis XVI-kind of 😁 My all time fav river cruise brand is Emerald Cruises, very modern, clean lines, younger demographic, and very affordable (not been on a budget travel bucket) I highly recommend you to try. Thanks again for your wonderful videos!
I looked forwards to this one so much!!! And you did not disappoint. Emma, you have such a lovely, happy, and often hilarious, cheeky attitude, it's such a joy to watch you! THANK YOU!!!
How could you not enjoy or appreciate "Casablanca?" I'm much older than you and first saw the movie when I was in college in the 1970s. I've lost count the number of times I've seen it, but I never grow tired of it.
I actually can't get enough of the decor on this ship! When I first saw your post from here, I didn't like it at all, but it's really grown on me! Out of curiosity, how was the noise in your room when other ships would pass? I found the lower cabins on my recent river cruise had much more noise when other ships would pass, and wondered if that was the same everywhere...?
Hmm, in Venice we were always parked so I had a view of the wall and in the other places we didn't really have any traffic, so can't say I ever noticed any noise from passing ships. :-)
I did this very cruise at the beginning of July. It was hot but not too bad in my opinion. I got a solo sale rate and was a deck above you. It was just wonderful in every way!
We have sailed with Uniworld twice and think they are one of the best river cruise lines. The food is excellent, the staff is so attentive and all the inclusions are much appreciated. The decor..., it's a bit over the top but I can live with that. Next time, give Scenic a try.
It was spectacular at the time and all over the news as in 2019 the uncontrolled MSC Opera pushed the river cruise ship River Countess away from her berth with force. So I'am all the happier about the SS La Venezia now and about your excellent video that takes us to the magnificent lagoon of Venice.
Good video. It was an expensive way to spend a week in Venezia. And in the height of summer and tourist season, too! We’ve done 6 Viking river cruises, quite upscale and comfortable. We like the fact they actually travel places, not stay in one place. But thanks for sharing.
Your videos have spurred me on to go back and cruise. Our last one was just a 15 day Viking river cruise and that was just before the pandemic. We've been on lots of cruises before and loved them. Unfortunately, both my wife and I got COVID the first year, after which we just stopped going on any vacations that involved hotels or ships. Next week that changes because we're heading out on a Virgin cruise in the Caribbean. Thanks for your videos that showed people out having a good time. Crossing fingers that the trip goes well.
We’ve been on a couple of cruises with ACL - Mississippi River and Chesapeake Bay. I like that there a re shore excursion included but also included is all the alcohol you can drink and we don’t. Maybe one a day but not near what all the other passengers were consuming. They don’t offer an alcohol free price so we stopped cruising with them. One other reason is that the dining room offerings were less than appealing so we ended up using the back porch grill most of the time. Breakfast was always good but it seems like they felt the need to go fancy with every dinner menu. No thank you - not for what they charge.
I haven't watched one of your videos for far too long, and I feel bad about that. I always love the way you tell the story about your journey. It is nice to see you enjoying a luxury cruise. I am not a fan of the heat either. I tend to overheat easily and I just cannot cool properly. On the other hand, I do very well in the cold and thrive while others struggle. I guess it all averages out in the end. I'm going on my first Alaska cruise soon. That is my kind of weather 🙂 How is the four legged family doing?
Awwh, that’s okay I appreciate any views anytime!! They are well thank you, my cat Hudson is laying on a blanket on the sofa and Rolo the dog is chewing a chew toy. ❤😊🎉
Thank you Emma for another excellent video. This looks like an upmarket Viking river cruise. The decor doesn’t work for me at all! It would drive me nuts! There is always a pain in the arse creature on board, we had a couple on our Viking cruise a couple of years ago. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Did a Uniworld last year Paris to Normandy and would travel with them anytime. The shore excursions were well led by knowledgeable guides, food was great, cabin was certainly more than I expected, and they cut my solo traveller excess.
I never go anywhere near the mediterranean after May or before September 🥵 Much too hot for me who is used to living in Norway. The decor in the cabin is a bit….busy 😅 It sure is memorable but I would prefer a bit more “calm” decor than such a busy print on litterally every surface of the room. The area around Venice is beautiful 🤩
Hey Emma. Thanks for the video. I too like to wave while on a cruise! There’s just something so special about that and it does help to lighten the mood. 😊
UniWorld (SS Antionette) ranks alongside AMA Magna with the highest luxury and service ever experienced beating those cruises we’ve taken at sea. We also were treated to a bus ride from airport to the ship and vice versa as one of only two other couples.
I am going on a Danube river cruise with Riviera Travel in the Spring (I try to support British companies if I can) and I am really looking forward to it now after watching this video. Thank you Emma! ❤
I’d like to do a River Cruise, it’s on my bucket list. I think that I’d have to watch a few more River Cruise reviews, from yourself and Barry B, because I like the thought of an All Inclusive cruise (as budgeting for the extras that I would want to treat myself to, is hard to restrict). It has the feel of a Saga Cruise (Ocean or River), with Saga’s added advantage of collecting you from home to and from the airports. That really appeals to me. 😊
We sailed on Avalon Waterways last June/July in a Panoramic Suite on the Rhine river. Your stateroom could have been called the washing machine. The most difficult thing about luxury river cruising is pacing yourself. Lots of wonderful food, fun drinks and lots of active excursions. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
It sounds like quite a fun cruise and it certainly a plus that there. Were cookies I like you love my cookies but I must say I think the wallpaper would’ve driven me mad. The pattern would’ve just overwhelmed me so I guess this one I’ll definitely sit out.
This cruise looks like a nice way to visit Venice. I like it because it goes slow and stays close to the shore. I really don’t want to ever be in the middle of the ocean! Thank you for sharing
Regarding seasons: I will be going on a 7 day river cruise in Paris around new year, though for half that time the boat will be docked in Paris (as a floating hotel). I expect far lower temperatures than you experienced :)
Just googled the average temperature in Venice for July... 83 degrees F. Not that that doesn't feel hot, especially when there's no escape from the sun besides stuffy 600 year old buildings, but being from the Midwest I think I'd be chilling in those conditions. Corn sweat ftw
Great review. We went to Venice in December 2005 and despite the short days it was perfect. Not too busy, very cold, sunny every day and no smells from the canals. Plus excellent photo opportunities due to the late sunrises and early sunsets.
Looks like one I would enjoy! Plenty of veg options, and I love biking too. I get seasick easily, so the river might be better for me. You seem so nice; would love to run into you on a cruise some time. Not likely, since I have no desire to cruise anywhere. Stuck in the middle of Indiana greatly reduces the chances too! Cheers, and happy cruising!
Oh how I’d love to go on a river cruise in Italy, France or Germany. However, they seem to be out of my budget, especially when I add in the airfare from the U.S.. For now I’ll have to travel vicariously through you and your vlogs.😃🩷
The cabin video is now live, woohooo! You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/q9O-8xzlJ9I/w-d-xo.html 🥳🥳🥳
I just love your attitude, Emma - "As long as I'm safe, and clean, and fed, I'm happy". Just lovely.
Got my priorities there, haha!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
That would be the Emma Level of Maslow's Hierarchy.

Here in the US south, North Carolina in my case, we call anything over 80% humidity "air you can wear".

Awwh, thanks so much!! Oh wow, ha ha. I love Emerald too! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I looked forwards to this one so much!!! And you did not disappoint. Emma, you have such a lovely, happy, and often hilarious, cheeky attitude, it's such a joy to watch you! THANK YOU!!!
Awwwh you are so so kind, so glad you enjoyed it!! ❤❤❤
How could you not enjoy or appreciate "Casablanca?" I'm much older than you and first saw the movie when I was in college in the 1970s. I've lost count the number of times I've seen it, but I never grow tired of it.
11:36 Desert heat (like Cali) is different from humid heat. The southern states are like this, 90%+ humidity from like april to octoober lol.
Great video. We were in Paris and Naples in July/August and the heat was brutal!
Amazing video Emma!
Thank you! 😁❤️
Oooo!!! Have the best time ever! ❤🎉
I now really want to try a river cruise thank you for posting this. I love waving at the passengers on other ships too!
Emma is so sweet. I appreciate all the information you give, but love your attitude.
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
I've worked bar in a nightclub and had zero issues recalling the faces and drinks of hundreds in a night. Just don't ask me to remember their names
Blimey! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
vaporettos. Great to ride. When we visited, we bought day passes for all travel on such for about $10 / day. Go anywhere with that pass.
Hmm, LG TVs / luxury aren’t a natural match. 😂
I’m loving your channel. Long may it continue!
Wonderful review as always Emma.
I live in Houston, Texas, so I am giggling at the mentions of humidity.. It frequently gets to 100% down here. For me, 86 degrees F is pleasant.
Yeah I’m not sure I’d cope in Texas 😂
70 enough for me!
I remember when I lived in Budapest and would always see the cruise ships moored outside the House of Parliament. The Danube cruise would be amazing.
Agree agree agree haha 😊🎉❤
Hey Emma. Thanks for the video. I too like to wave while on a cruise! There’s just something so special about that and it does help to lighten the mood. 😊
So much!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
A really interesting vlog Emma, I was hooked from start to finish. Great stuff!
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
Great to see you again Emma !
20:05 you say it sounds silly but I was waving at the cruise ship the moment it came up on my computer screen lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Superb Review and yes Venice in Summer is Insane 😂
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
UniWorld (SS Antionette) ranks alongside AMA Magna with the highest luxury and service ever experienced beating those cruises we’ve taken at sea. We also were treated to a bus ride from airport to the ship and vice versa as one of only two other couples.
❤❤❤
I love the cat in the window box. Thanks.
Haha. So true!! ❤
Love the philosophy you outline at the end. Go with the flow!
🌊🌊🌊🌊 Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
It sounds like quite a fun cruise and it certainly a plus that there. Were cookies I like you love my cookies but I must say I think the wallpaper would’ve driven me mad. The pattern would’ve just overwhelmed me so I guess this one I’ll definitely sit out.
This cruise looks like a nice way to visit Venice. I like it because it goes slow and stays close to the shore. I really don’t want to ever be in the middle of the ocean! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I need an outfit video! I love your dresses and would like to know what "sweat proof" clothing you are talking about.
That sounds lovely 😊❤
Looks like one I would enjoy! Plenty of veg options, and I love biking too. I get seasick easily, so the river might be better for me. You seem so nice; would love to run into you on a cruise some time. Not likely, since I have no desire to cruise anywhere. Stuck in the middle of Indiana greatly reduces the chances too! Cheers, and happy cruising!
Hey Emma! Thank you for taking us along on another great cruise! Is that a relative of Captain Hudson looking down at you at 0:53?
Thanks for coming along!! Yep I think so, ha ha. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
emma in a kiddie pool is the best thing ever
😂😂😂😂
Hi Emma - thanks for the explanation about sweets here in the UK - however, you then refer to biscuits as cookies.
Oh how I’d love to go on a river cruise in Italy, France or Germany. However, they seem to be out of my budget, especially when I add in the airfare from the U.S.. For now I’ll have to travel vicariously through you and your vlogs.😃🩷
Emma I like waving at everyone as well. I even signed up to be on our city’s Christmas parade this year, so I can wave at everyone 😂😂
Wow I’d love that haha! ❤🎉
Hey Emma! Great work/Video!!!
Love the Flamepoint with hat. Made my day. Now, to search for UW deal.❤
100% humidity is quite a thing. I experienced it in Savannah, Georgia, last year. The sea wasn't warm, it was HOT!
Very informative and moved right along. Thank you.
Thank you! 😁❤️
