We are a family of 5 who decided to also grab a tiny home. We spent 3 years restoring a classic sailboat, sold our house and moved on board. Three years and thousands of miles living and traveling on our 38 foot boat we find we still love it. Our tiny home is all we need.
Wow, this brings back memories, when my wife and I stayed in our first house, we slept on the living room floor and ate pizza by candlelight, the electrical had not been turned on yet... and you will remember this forever. Great Memories in the making.
Please do get some safety glasses for yourselves and Luka and Sara. We are much more safety conscious in the US and often grumble about the rules that keep us safe, but your eyes are precious and safety glasses are cheap, especially for a multi pack. You can get them as sunglasses and even as bifocals if anyone needs them. You’ll need them in the house too. You do have a lot of work ahead of you, but it’s going to be so wonderful when you’re done and you want to be able to admire it when you’re done.
I am glad you are helping your friends out with their olive trees. That is the spirit of the community in Italy. I know who your friends are and they are very sweet and helpful people. You are paying back some of the kindness they showed you and doing so with your sweat equity.
I had the same blown plaster experience in my crumbly cottage in the UK, it's just where it's got damp over the years and the plaster has come away. I keep the place well ventilated now and a dehumidifier in the winter and had no reoccurring issues with the newly plastered walls. Good luck!
it is more likely the original wall "plaster" mix had too much sand, I doubt it will be anything to do with damp in Sicily . It looked like the only thing holding the plaster together was the paint.
small sleeping bag hack for you (tried it recently and it works) don't roll up the sleeping bag to fit it back in the small bag. just take a corner of the sleeping bag and start pushing it into the small bag. the whole sleeping bag will be in the small bag before you know it. it's so much easier. hope that helps for future sleeping bag use.
I’m barefoot 🦶 the majority of the time. I only put on shoes 👟 if I have to run to town or special occasions. I have loads of shoes I just don’t wear them.
We keep the sleeping bags in our van in pillow cases. They’re a bit bigger than the original cases, a lot easier to stuff in, plus you can use the pillows during the day!
If ya put a rug or blanket under the mattress it would tamp the sound to help. Hope the next sleep there is better. A mattress topper or sleeping on a blanket might also add to the comfort during the interim. So happy for you all ❤

Can I suggest getting a stair gate for the balcony door to keep Noah safe....very scary. Also I think getting Noah a play pen to keep him safe and secure and from under your feet whilst you are working would be a good idea.

Love your enthusiasm and Noah's giggles! I repaired crumbling plaster throughout my wife's 100 yr old house before we sold it. I can say that with patience and the help of youtube, it wasn't too bad. I was looking for "good enough" and as I gained experience it looked pretty good in the end. Plus I saved the $1000 a professional wanted to do the job. All in all it was a fun experience and the satisfaction from having done it myself was immeasurable. Good luck and have fun renovating your new home! :)
Congratulations on your first night in your new holiday home! First night was a fun little adventure to connect with your new home - I would have done the same thing! Don't worry about all the comments telling you what you should have done and should do! This was a quick trip to Sicily to take ownership and "get started" on planning, right? Baby gates, beds, the balcony safety, stuff... plenty of time to get organized and start equipping the place with the essentials next visit. I'll be curious and enjoy seeing how you source what you need to make a good start actually living there and creating your vision. Luca and Sara will be such good sources for where to find things, what to do about the issues of an old home and repairs, where to find help. Ignore the naysayers, dream big, make your lists and go for it! ❤️❤️❤️
safe travels home! My son has the same tent from Ikea also. I had purchased a fluffy turquoise carpet to put on the bottom to make it homey for him when he was a toddler. he's 7 and still uses it today or for he sets it up for his cat to play in. I've also brought the tent with me to the beach a few years ago and worked out fine. the sand doesnt bother me since I grew up by the beach, but it did bother my spouse LOL anyhow, just as a safety precaution to fold up the chairs and bring them inside from the balcony for the little one. that toddler age is fun but was also scary for me since my son ran, climbed, jumped everywhere!
We have so many memories of 'first nights in the new house ' because my husband was in the RAF. Lots of visits to the local pub for a meal on arrival. Black coffee and eggs for breakfast, awaiting the arrival of the removals van. I loved every minute of it.

Why? the italian couple has enough starstruck fans to work for them for free! And, to buy houses in that isolated village....houses that have been for sale for a decade or more!
So glad to hear your eye is healing. That was too close for comfort. You realize how much your eyesight means to you when you go through something like that. That cutie patootie Noah is repeating everything you two say. So cute! I used to live in the country away from the closest town, so it's very important that as soon as you run out of something or realize you need something, immediately put it on a main list. With all those steps, look for carts with special wheels that are actually made for stairs on Amazon. You'll be able to make 1 trip instead of 3-4. Anything to make your lives easier is worth it!
If you ever have that situation, again, try putting a blanket between the floor and the air mattress. I just found you guys a few weeks ago, and I love this adventure for you. It’s absolutely lovely.
Alex, I'm so glad your eye was OK after a very concerning time. You had a great attitude, and it obviously paid off. It's absolutely adorable how Noah laughs every time you both do, and says "Wowww!", he seems such a happy, sunny little boy, living his best life.
When my son was 7 or 8 months old I came around from the kitchen to find that he had climbed to the top of the baby gate at the top of the stairs. We had to modify the gates so there was no where for his little fingers to grip onto.
Feels like I’ve found a new family. I’m very happy to join your family in your new home in Sicily! I’ve followed Sara and Luca for a long while, and happy to expand the community to your new adventures. Ciao Bella, and see you soon! 😊

How exciting camping out in your own house for the first night. Love Noah’s reaction to his tent, so gorgeous 🥰 So pleased your eye wasn’t too serious and will heal. 🤗
I love the look of your new home and the view is to die for. So glad Alex‘s eye turned out to be something that would heal on its own oh, and I like what he said about memories about first times. I always think that over 20 years ago when my husband and I bought our home and we had no furniture and would eat dinner on the packing boxes in our front room but we didn’t care. We were just so happy.
Your sweet little boy is absolutely perfect!! He is so cute!! I cannot wait to see what you do with your Sicilian villa now that it's officially yours!! Congrats guys!! With that view it can only be magic!! ❤
@dorisweems1510 absolutely!!! That alone is reason to buy the villa for sure!! I don't know that I could live in Sicily without weighing 300 lbs though. The pasta...the pizza.... good lord I would never be a healthy weight again..lol
🤍🍏🫖 I absolutely love your channel and thanks to Sara and Luca for introducing you to me. So glad your eyes are OK, thank goodness much love and many blessings to you, your child and your new home in Sicily. I look forward to the journey.
Oh my! So happy your eye is okay Alex. That was frightening to think you could possibly lose your vision if it had been more serious. I've always heard the eye heals rapidly. That certainly seems to be true in your case. I'm glad all is well.
Congratulazioni, Beans! (or should I call you guys "fagioli" now? This was so sweet! First of all, thank goodness you're okay, Alex! How scary! I guess no good deed goes unpunished, eh? I'm happy that your electricity was turned on enough to at least have lights when you came back to your new home and to get those lovely air mattresses blown up! As someone who has moved around a LOT in my 64 years, I HATE those damn things! I've had to use them as my primary bed for far too many nights! Now, I just order a $100 cheapo mattress from Walmart as soon as possible when I move to a new place! Seeing Noah explore is so sweet! I've been missing my grandson (18 months old) this week while he was visiting family out of state, so you guys were my little ray of sunshine until they get back! Good luck in your new home!
Please test the old paint and window sills for lead. You have several grandma type people following you it seems as we have seen things we don’t want you to experience. Only because we care. ❤
Not sure if lead paint was used in that area, if so, the amount of lead paint dust the size of a pin head can cause issues for children. Please look into it. In the USA you can buy little test kits. - I am a Licensed Lead Paint Remodeler in the US.
So sorry your eye was hurt but so glad it will heal. Since it was your first time picking olives your friends should have supplied you all with protective eye wear.
Perhaps get a simple 'lead-testing' kit for the crumbling plaster before you dive in too far. I'm not familiar with the occurrence of lead in old building in Italy, but in America, there is a lot of lead. I know you don't want Noah or yourselves to be exposed to lead (highest risk is the crumbling dust part). Best of luck to you. What a fun adventure!
I adore your sense of humor and love for adventure! Glad to hear his eye is ok after an olive almost took out his eye! Crazy !!! ❤❤❤ wish all the best for you and your family!
Thank God, you didn't have any major injury to your eye. I can relate to your situation because I had retina detached in my right eye a few years back and it was so excruciating time of my life and I couldn't see anything from my right eye as it was all blacked out until I had to go through a surgery to get it fixed. I'm so happy to know that you didn't freak out as I did when I knew that the retina had detached in my right eye. I wish nobody goes through what I went through. Stay safe and keep smiling Alex and Emma. Good luck with your new home. I hope you will be able to fix all these problems soon in your new home and make it a beautiful place to live. Cheers 😊❤
You might want to check out the moisture in that wall. (It looked off color in the video.) Also, glad the eye injury was not more serious. Make lists; they are very helpful .
Glad the eye is going to be ok. Scary for sure. This is such an exciting time, new home to you, and all the adventures ahead. Thanks for sharing! Noah is getting so big. He's keeping you two hopping.
Ouch! So glad for a good report! You know, having a little guy that depends on you makes you mentally stronger. That's why you didn't freak out totally; you're a good dad! Oh, editing to add that the lenticular cloud in the final scene was spectacular!
I am happy your eye is going to be okay, this hits a little close to home for me. A few years ago i had a total retinal detachment of my left eye, and a cataract. They were able to successfully reattach the retina, but my body rejected the cataract replacement lens, and I lost the vision in the eye. It is definitely something that takes getting used to. Take care of yourselves and enjoy your beautiful new home, the views are stunning.
The "mister" at 16:18 is actually a portrait of pope Paul VI. He was the pope of roman catholic church from 1963 to 1978. This should date the age of that picture. BTW I just ended my olive harvest in central Italy. I started many years ago and the very first time I got struck in the eye exactly like Alex. Very painful but no real harm. From then on, I always wear glasses when I do the olive job. Welcome to Italy guys!!
It's a great feeling when it all starts to become so real. Congrats on your new home. Between the tile floors, staircase, railings, and balcony, it looks like some serious baby-proofing is in order. Wishing you the very best on all the new and amazing things coming in your future! P.S. It looks like that wall might have a moisture problem...
Thank goodness about your eye!! You got super lucky!! I had an especially bad retinal tear and detachment in October and am still healing from surgery - and will need additional surgery in January.
Please buy several stair gates for each balcony opening and set of stairs as a priority, better safe than sorry. Also, get a large play pen will help you get on with Noah in tow.
Just an opinion but id have the kitchen and lounge upstairs and the bedrooms and a bathroom configured downstairs.also stairgates and a playpen for noahs safety, whilst you need all hands on deck.goodluck beans with your den i cant wait to see the end results.

Yes, that view is everything, WOW!!!!!
@dorisweems1510 absolutely!!! That alone is reason to buy the villa for sure!! I don't know that I could live in Sicily without weighing 300 lbs though. The pasta...the pizza.... good lord I would never be a healthy weight again..lol
Thank you ☺️🙏 we are so excited to see what the house turns into!
🤍🍏🫖 I absolutely love your channel and thanks to Sara and Luca for introducing you to me. So glad your eyes are OK, thank goodness much love and many blessings to you, your child and your new home in Sicily. I look forward to the journey.
The view from your balcony is epic!
Yes. Simply amazing and gorgeous!
Thank you! It was definitely one of the main things that made us fall in love with the place ☺️💛
@@TravelBeans Too bad you think having the italian couple as, "friends," is a bonus, You'll learn.
Oh my! So happy your eye is okay Alex. That was frightening to think you could possibly lose your vision if it had been more serious. I've always heard the eye heals rapidly. That certainly seems to be true in your case. I'm glad all is well.
So happy for you all. What an adventure. This one you will look back on with laughter and great JOY❤
Thank you so much! 🥰
Noah is such a cute toddler. Definitely have to keep your eyes on children that age - I know from first hand experience with my granddaughter. ❤
The first night in a new house with roughing it is always a great memory. Congrats
Thank you! 😊
I’m so in love with little Noah! His laugh is so contagious. I’m very glad the eye is ok. Much love to your family🥰
Yes safety glasses from now on!!!
Never a dull moment following you guys. So exciting you’re getting into your home. What a blessing your eye will be ok. Stay safe
The floors are gorgeous!!!
❤ So happy your Husband eye injury went OK....beautiful family 👪 ❤ and much happiness wished forward 😊
So glad you're eye isn't permanently damaged. Congrats on your first night in your new home!
Please test the old paint and window sills for lead. You have several grandma type people following you it seems as we have seen things we don’t want you to experience.
Only because we care. ❤
This is very suspicious.
Not sure if lead paint was used in that area, if so, the amount of lead paint dust the size of a pin head can cause issues for children. Please look into it. In the USA you can buy little test kits. - I am a Licensed Lead Paint Remodeler in the US.
@ЯрославКривич-ч4э what is???.
th-cam.com/video/lt6gESDJPZA/w-d-xo.html Noah should not be crawling around this area until after you test the paint on that plaster.
It is asbestos in the paint here, not lead. @@bentleystarkweather9670
I had loads when I stripped out my 200 year old house in the UK.
hello :)
@@mywanderwaysill keep that thought in mind too if we buy a house. I had not thought of that
I adore your sense of humor and love for adventure! Glad to hear his eye is ok after an olive almost took out his eye! Crazy !!! ❤❤❤ wish all the best for you and your family!
I don't go to Ikea without first putting on my hiking boots because once you're in there it's one hell of a long walk to the exit.
Cheers 😊❤
Noah is a real wild child these days! So curious, cute and full of energy.
Yes, he is a totally adorable and cute kid. Thanks for your warm words.
You might want to check out the moisture in that wall. (It looked off color in the video.) Also, glad the eye injury was not more serious. Make lists; they are very helpful .
Mum and Dad! You're full time Old Folks Now. Wonderful Life and Family. You're Blessed
Why did yiu call them Old Folks? They are quite young.
As with yourself, I think its simply a language thing.@@ЯрославКривич-ч4э
Glad the eye is going to be ok. Scary for sure. This is such an exciting time, new home to you, and all the adventures ahead. Thanks for sharing! Noah is getting so big. He's keeping you two hopping.
Noah is growing so fast. He seems to be a happy camper.
Your family has such a beautiful spirit... watching your journey inspires others to be on theirs...Bless
Ouch! So glad for a good report!
You know, having a little guy that depends on you makes you mentally stronger. That's why you didn't freak out totally; you're a good dad! Oh, editing to add that the lenticular cloud in the final scene was spectacular!
Yay someone noticed! The cloud really was fantastic wasn’t it!
And thank you for watching and for your wonderful comment 🙏
Oh , those floor tiles have come up a treat . Alex .You're a brave fella . Glad your eye will be fine .👍
It's lovely to see how you work together as a team.
You 3 are awesome thanks for sharing your adventurous life!
I'm so relieved that Alex's eye is ok. I had shingles in my left eye in May and my vision is still affected 😢
The tile is beautiful!
Thank goodness about your eye!! You got super lucky!! I had an especially bad retinal tear and detachment in October and am still healing from surgery - and will need additional surgery in January.
How exciting! Congratulations on your first night in your new home 💜💜
Thank you!! 😊
I love your happy little Bean. Noha is such a bundle of joy. Your house is adorable. You are really going to enjoy making it your own.
Please buy several stair gates for each balcony opening and set of stairs as a priority, better safe than sorry. Also, get a large play pen will help you get on with Noah in tow.
So happy for you. Thanks for sharing your life with your fans. That view in the morning is worth it all.
Just an opinion but id have the kitchen and lounge upstairs and the bedrooms and a bathroom configured downstairs.also stairgates and a playpen for noahs safety, whilst you need all hands on deck.goodluck beans with your den i cant wait to see the end results.
Absolutely correct..you want cool bedrooms for the Mediterranean summer heat.
The kitchen has to go where the plumbing is. They are not millionaires.
I lived in Sicily and Apulia...beautiful but after a while It s just a long list if problems and the view the olives and the sea...not enough ti stay forever. Good luck.
Bless your heart. Sounds like protective goggles are needed when harvesting olives. Having your vision go blurry sounds horribly frightening.
I saw you on LEAW and you Beans seem so Fun! Thank heavens your eye is “ on the mend” and so Incredible to help Luca/Sara with the olive grove harvest!
I’ll be watching you from California and rooting you on during your remodel!
Ciao…Sherry 😎🇺🇸
Or…missing, stairgates! Safety first for Noah then enjoy your new home. Congratulations guys ❤
In my opinion, Noah is completely safe
