Translation is interpretation.
I don't ever find these alterations, or clarifications (wasn't the Peshitta something of a clarifying text, brought into the common language?) to be malicious.
I think the apologists who attempt to preserve dogmatic interpretations are just completely ignorant as to what is actually in these texts.
For example, I don't think I've ever heard any apologist who can tell me the point of the Egyptians needing to gather (צָבַר) the frogs (צְפַרְדֵּעַ) to burn in the stinking fire, when their streets were famous for smelling of burning צפר. Their dogma has no response to this because it's completely unconsidered by their exegesis.
Looks poetic, “the Egyptians hating the illegal immigrants had to “Enfrog” the frogs so now it smells like “Rogs” … and the air is full of fogs.
But the poetry is in the void, the cipher of the sefer, where the burning of pleasing צפר, "saffron," in the streets, is replaced with a gathering and burning of displeasing צפרדע.
How would a contemporary reader ever understand the meaning given to a text by a vacancy within it?
How can you know if you are reading a cipher that reads just like any other sefer?
It's an epistemological question.
Western Civilization and its religions are built on a flawed ontology that is only allowed by their anti-epistemological approach to everything they assert as true.
Maybe God hardened the scribes hearts
But what parts of the priests did God/Gott/Goth/Gaut mess with?
