That old Comet runs awesome considering the car was a total loss. I bet that was a sharp car prior to the fire. It's just amazing to me to see the tight bond you and your dad have. God Bless You Both and continued success with your channel
That was truly amazing seeing the burnt corpse of a Comet come back to life. I’m hoping to one day return life to either a 1970 or 1971 Maverick. Love those cars. Keep up the awesome work gentlemen.
I'm just dumbfounded! I have no words! You took a totally burned up Mercury Comet and got the engine to start!!! I saw it, watched you and your Dad do it, and I still cannot believe it!!! You and your Dad are a helluva set of mechanics!!!!
@@sheepwolf1st Did I SAY that they could walk on water? No I didn't ! I merely stated that I was amazed that they were able to get a car to run again after being so severely burned and damaged!!! That's ALL!!! MYOB!!!

Michael, your optimism and your attitude is outstanding. Best team together with your Dad. Great video and looking forward to get you driving this car for a few yards soon. Cheers Ulf
Im only 2 minutes in to the video and just have to say i can tell you are a great parent because he asked before he did anything but still had fun while doing it And heard everything you said with no distractions

When I first saw your crispy (literally) Comet, I thought, "No way." But once again you surprised us! Well done! Love the "get 'er done" attitude with you and your dad. Looking forward to the next one!
Don't forget to time the framistat modulator and align the Finnigan tension bearings. It wouldn't do to have such a cherry ride running less than perfectly.🤔
alot came across when i saw u standing next to the 'gem" one, its you truly have "serious magic " skills to bring this awesome car that you love retro its in your blood, that you surprise a someone like me who has no knowledge, patience the only thing i cn say if i can find someone who will not grumble when you have a negative and few funds but a mechanic who will put a fake smile and do it and tell me you honestly love it for a few yrs,
Budget Builds - the automotive Necromancer, bringing the dead back to life. This thing is like Christine's lil' sister, lol. Or (to continue the movie references), something from Mad Max. She'd turn some heads at the Wasteland Weekend car show, that's for certain. You'd never, ever be allowed to return something like this to the road here in the UK, but if there's any possibility of getting this crispy Comet legal without spending a fortune, it would be fun to do. Imagine, driving along and suddenly seeing it looming in your rear-view!
Another great video. Can't wait to see you buffing and polishing it lol. It shows how resilient motors can be. Thanks for taking a chance on this one, if you hadn't it would have been lost ever. Good to you and dad working together. Wishing you both much success. God bless you and your family.
Just come across you guys. Awesome, awesome, awesome dudes - love it when all the odds are stacked against it and guys like you prove it wrong! Crazy but so inspiring. What a beautiful car! Got to be a resto now! Keep up the great work!👍😎
I pulled a 350 from a burnt van once. The tbi had melted into a glob on the intake. That untouched long block ran like a champ with a carbureted intake, for years.
You managed to get the VW Golf that was crushed by a tree and sitting in the woods for a long time running, so I don't think that you will have a problem here. Just a little bit of paint and it will be like brand new. 😁😁
That was somebody pride and joy, but like you stated that we hope the people were okay. The little car does no want to go quietly into the night, at least it's at a place that likes turning wrenches
Great Video and SCORE on the top loader. My Mom and Dad bought a Brand New Bright Red Comet GT 3 Speed on the floor In 1971 when I was 6 years old. I went with them to the Lincoln Mercury Dealer when they drove it home. I Loved that Comet and they gave it to me when I was 18! I Ran the Hell out of it for 10 years but like an idiot I let it get away. I am looking for another one or a good roller (maybe not quite as rough as yours!!) I have a 71 Mustang 302 4 Barrell engine and a 65 Mustang Top loader 4 speed with a Mr Gasket Verti-Gate shifter!! If You see one in better shape Let me know! Have a Great Day😊
It would be amazing to see if you guys restored this car to it’s former glory! This one is from a time the U.S.A. were still be able to build real cars😬👍
I worked at Hertz rent a car in the 70's. The 70 and 71 Maverick and Comets with 302s were fun cars. (I go there after the Shelby days) Super light weight. Also, the Fairmonts with 302s were peppy. Much lower HP than the early 70s but light cars. That made them fun to drive. Love the videos, Keep them coming!
Leave the body warped .. seal it up and give it that "Christine after the fire" look with just a serviceable interior, glass, and passable lighting. That engine sounds angry - it'd be a really neat look with that soundtrack bellowing out the back.
this would make a perfect car for a mad max style build since the body is completely beat already! great job getting it running, I am shocked a car burnt that badly still runs that well.
I didn't have any doubts of the engine being salvageable, it was just a question of how long it sat with moisture inside. Looks like you got to this one in the nick of time! Obviously, the smart thing to do would be to just yank the drivetrain and any other salvageable components, then scrap the burned hulk that was the body. Perhaps if you were ambitious, you could find another Comet with rusted out floors and use this car for donor metal. Yet I'll admit, it'll be really cool to see this car drive under its own power one last time. Looking forward to that video.
@@GTSW1FT Why? The metallurgy has been compromised to the point that the car will rot away within the span of five years, if that. The only real fix is to cut away the heat damaged metal and replace it outright. Simply welding in a roll cage to drive it around a handful of times before the body fully falls apart would be a wasted effort.
Excellent video Budget Buildz :) yes surprises me how that Comet car come back life after fire 🔥 damage to and looking forward more videos too soon watch on this project to!

As a maverick lover and owner I hope to see this car on the road again!!!! Those PS hoses are factory ford. most people like me go to NAPA machine shop and have them made with 45 degree angle inlet and outlets so they will clear the bottom of the car smoothly and not hang down.

I like how they wrote "damaged" on the door. Just in case someone might think it came that way from the factory.
I think it said damaged odo.. can't tell the proper mileage. Legal requirement?
I think it said damaged odometer!

For me it’s more of a Liability issue if you was to ever sell the car and they wrecked it and got killed you could be sued and charged
For something that's been burnt to a crisp, it sure has a strong will to live, and that exhaust note is music to the ears.

Glad to see you smiling through the whole video, your optimism is great.
A full restoration of this car would be insane
full no rat rod type thing do something like clear coat slaps some glass and new lights that would be killer
Just a new windshield, clear coat, and some rat seats and just drive it
Metal is fatigued. Chassis is done.
The metal has structurally changed because of the fire..you cant get sheet metal hot, it gets weakened and bends with your bare hands
I agree. If there is paint under the carpets, the chassis will be OK. Others like door posts, doors, roof will be weakened.
Looking forward to the wash, wax, and buff 😉
All those dents and rust should buff right out no worries.🙃
LOL
It's a miracle you got that engine to run. You guys can do anything!
There's something about a burnt out car thats runs like this satisfying 🤩 greets from belgium !
The best thing about an old car over newer ones is .
All you need is spark ,fuel, and air, and it will run .
Now that's what I call some extreme patina, and the rest I think will buff right out. Way to go guys!
