Here is a message from THE LONG DARK's creative director:
Hello players,
Over the past few days, we've heard your feedback loud and clear: you aren't happy with our implementation of the Cougar.
I want to make it clear that the design we selected for the Cougar was my decision, and we shipped it as intended (apart from the bugs, of course). But there are a lot of different ways to deliver on an intention, and so I've decided that the fairest thing for our players, as well as for the dev team, is to pull the Cougar out of the build until we can do some revisions and come up with something we are happier with.
We don't want to simply fix bugs and react to player sentiment. The changes will go beyond just fixing the bugs in the current version. That doesn't mean we will deliver 100% the version that everyone is hoping for. At the end of the day, we have a clear vision for THE LONG DARK and we'll continue to work towards that vision.
For now, we're taking the Cougar back, and will work on it until it's ready. I can't say for sure how long that will take, but it'll likely be more than a couple of weeks. We'll deliver a re-envisioned Cougar before we deliver Part Six of TALES.
Thanks to everyone who shared constructive feedback and impressions over the past few days. Your input is useful and highly valued. I hope you enjoy the other features in Part Five, until we bring the Cougar back to you.

As a result of this, you will find the Cougar is no longer available in the game starting tomorrow (Friday) on Steam, and early next week on the consoles.
If you already have existing raw materials collected from killing Cougars, those items will remain in your inventory. You will still be able to craft the Cougar-related items, but you will not be able to find more Cougar materials to repair them. If you have unlocked the Cougar Feat, you will still be able to use it.

Ugh, the Coguar is such a disappointment. I was hoping to actually be stalked by it and that it would roam around in the game world, but no. Instead, we got some timer that after it runs out teleports the Puma straight to our face XD For 6 months they gave us a cutscene of wrestling with the Puma and 0 AI. Wonderful bullshit.

you have to attack her after you get mauled, get your weapon out and you have this split second window to shoot. any weapon will kill her in 1 shot, no matter where.

Cougar cannot be shot before an attack like moose, bear, wolves. It just happens but you can get a lucky shot off AFTER you're mauled

I bet the devs are gonna tune the cougar in the next part. It having no ingame presence outside of the initial struggle is unfair as hell. The struggle is brutal and can easily end your run as well. Like, i get how youre giving many warnings about the cougar before it attacks, but for christsakes, atleast allow us to get a shot in on it before it initiates the struggle. Even if its like 3 seconds, ill take anything over it jumping you with no warning.

They def cut some corners with this one. It should stalk you like a wolf,but without sound, from unlimited distance when it's coming after you. It would encourage the player to look behind them from time to time just as you would if you were being stalked in RL. If you spot it, it should immediately charge or bolt away much like a wolf does when you aim at it while by a camp fire. This would be way more fun with the same fear factor

Well is this an natural game-object cougar's cave( like with bear), and yea, if you know, is there a chance to see cougar before his attack, idk may be a day before his attack. Now im afraid to stay long in one location, because everytime i plan for long surviving somewhere, for example in mystery lake, i remember that now, if i stay for long(how long?? 10-20 days may be???) i will be attacked by new animal. Is there any info of his behaviour, or i forced to find it myself))
