Hi sorry I have a question if you could help out. I intend to purchase a large area of land, if possible, where homeless could be housed and given the opportunity to have a foot hold in earning money. The idea is that they are vetted and interviewed just to see if they want to change their situation in a positive way, they would pay their “rent” (basic housing, water, shower access, etc) by working the farm and grunt work, offering cheap labor to surrounding farms to employ them for personal earning. While with my intended college degree and some connections I hope to acquire both a state grant and private donations (gives them some tax exemptions) to experiment with indigenous sustainability practices and the money needed to complete a five to ten year experiment between traditional practices and homelessness (nature helps mental illness and lack or purpose while hawaii direly needs stronger forms of agricultural sustainability). Twinkle Borge already has a camp on Oahu, but I worry about legal issues regarding cheap traditional housing construction which might not meet certain construction standards due to their role in simply providing a place to sleep that isn’t the streets, and farming that is not profitable and more like a large community garden. I need insights on what might cause difficulties with my ideal vision, I want to be real about my dream so I can attempt to find solutions or a middle ground. I intend to be an environmental engineer so legalities aren’t exactly my specialty, it would be helpful and most appreciated if you could point out the most critical things i should consider. (Since as far as I’m aware this hasn’t really been attempted or done yet)
Oh, this is exactly what we needed! We are planning to buy land in the next year or 2 and build an Aircrete home with help of the Aircrete company there. We also plan to grow our own food and also sell at a farmers market to connect with the community. Both you and Kyle answered and confirmed so many things. Thank you! Welcome to Hawaii. We have wild boars on OUR property in Kona..and have had fire ants, too..Mold happens at elevation, too. Its what you are willing to mitigate. There's ant killer, wild pig hunters and dehumidifiers. All can be handled.
Stop depending on corrupt Government. Buy where there is enough rainfall. Use solar for power with propane back up. I'm on 8 acres on the east side totally off grid.
I hope no predatory buying of land in Maui and Lahaina from real native and rea Hawaiian families. It happen in Puerto Rico after the hurricane, I hope it doesn’t happen in Lahaina. Don’t be a haolo please. That are my two cents. Many times bad deed’s are dressed up in selfish good intentions.

If you look there isn’t much on the market in that area so I don’t think folks are trying to sell Lahaina lands in Lahaina hands 🤙🏼🙌🏼
