My husband and I spent 2 years on my home country (Brazil) while the whole immigration process was going on. We arrived in the US a couple of months ago and as you can imagine from moving abroad and paying for immigration fees - we're broke. He's working full time, I work part-time and by using what I've learned in this channel I'm able to cut out grocery bill in half this month and actually pay rent. So I just want to say thank you for putting this content out there and helping out people like me get by in hard times!

I have been binge-watching all your videos for the last week. I freakin' love this channel! You are so fun. Thank you, TH-cam, for finally recommending something I'm actually interested in! I did my grocery shopping last Friday and used Ibotta, shopped clearance, and meal planned. I spent $65 on more than $140 worth of groceries. What rock was I living under overpaying this much per week on groceries??

Katherine Johnston I've been krogering for decades and when stretching dollars, it's a win on these markdowns. Last November they had too many organic heavy whipping cream(use it for coffee and keto stuff) they marked them at $1.00 😳, let's get them all, we had room. He looked at me with disbelief but you have to capitalize with great finds. Also go to the meat markdown area every time you go, you might just fine some extraordinary finds. Good luck stretching the dollars, and definitely make a budget, it's a very good habit.

We don't have kids, but about once a week we do the same and bring all the leftovers and litle bits and odds and ends out to put together random dinner. Especially to use up any leftover fruit and veggies. We have cut our food waste down a ton by doing this and also getting creative with repurposing leftovers.

We are a 2-1/2 to 3lb taco night family. Lol.
We are a family of 4. One is an 18 year old young man and he eats A Lot.
I also make a breakfast casserole on Sunday or breakfast tacos on Sunday as well to stretch it a bit.
Make some spice blends with your extra spices. Make one for chicken and one for beef...even one for shrimp/fish. That way you sprinkle it on the meat and boom you're done! 😁

Tonight I am making drumstick soup. value pack of drumsticks (10-12) 2 each of yellow, orange, red, and green bell peppers, small dice. 1-2 onions, same dice, large can of diced tomatoes, cayenne to taste, chicken bouillon or broth and salt to taste, cover it with water (or broth or mix) and get to a boil, then turn to a rolling simmer, cover and let cook until chicken is done, about an hour. Stir it once in a while. Don't add all your bouillon or salt at the start, save most to the end to gauge the flavor. Make some rice of choice to add to your bowl. Got the chicken for $3.50, the peppers and onions for about $8 and the tomatoes were under $1. So, about $13 for 8 people. if you have a dollar tree and if they have it, you can get bags of peppers and onions for $1 each. I usually use 2, but even with 3 bags, that makes this only cost $8 (even less if you catch one of those sales where bags of chicken are like, .49cents a pound) So, $1 per person or less and there are always leftovers, usually enough for 1-2 lunches. I like to make mine a bit spicy. Basically, you put a mound of rice in a bowl, add a drumstick and some broth, put it on a plate so you have a place for your bone and the corn tortillas you can also have with it and tastes great. I like to make mine a bit spicy. if you are feeling fancy, you can saute the peppers and onions first. I probably will do that tonight, I like the texture better that way. I don't do it with the frozen ones, because they have already been softened up by the manufacturing and freezing process. you can also add in veggies that would sound good in this. Okra maybe, some celery. whatever.

Hope it's okay to share this. Had left over cooked sweet potatoes and some cabbage. Made chicken broth using bouillon, once it was boiling I added chopped cabbage till tender, added sweet potatoes and mashed them up, salt & pepper, butter and thickened with flour. If my husband eats it it must be good (very picky). He ate it all!

This is exactly how I cook too! I see what I can get cheap and then figure it out from there. We’re also a 2lb taco meat family. I even add black beans to the meat to stretch it further.

I was just thinking chicken chili (omg I’ve never made it) because I tried to cook Lima beans in the instapot for the first time and...and... it’s bean paste. Kids won’t even know they’re in there. 🤣 Thanks Christine!

Mix a can of refried beans in with the 1lb ground beef taco mixture. It really stretches it. We are past just 1 lb of beef too with two teenagers.
