This video is the best thing I'm seeing in my adult life... I'm 26 and my husband and I just started eating beans more often, cooking dried beans.. I honestly could cry because of all the help you're giving me right now. Thank you, 100 times, over.
Yes, I remember being 26 and newly married, and how older more experienced people helped us along the way. Some unsolicited advice to you is, grow what you can yourself, even if it’s a few herbs and a potted tomato plant, stock your herb cabinet and pantry with the essentials, put a little food by for emergency or time of need, name brand is not always the best, in fact, many times, you are just paying for the name on the label, try and make cooking a pleasant experience and not a chore. Good luck to you from an old kitchen witch. 🍲🥦🌞
My husband passed away three weeks ago and now I’m in a desperate financial situation. I came across your channel yesterday and have watched several of your videos. You are clearly my new best friend.
Tip for your Dutch oven bread. After you shape your dough into a ball place it on the parchment paper while it’s resting. Then once your pan is preheated just lift up the parchment paper and plop it in your Dutch oven.
What I love most about this channel is that it kind of proves that you can make decent, mostly healthy, home-cooked meals for cheap. I once worked at a really boring data-entry job, so I used to talk with my co-workers a lot. We talked about food, and I was just kind of shocked to learn that many of my co-workers like didn't know how to cook for themselves. Like, not even soup. I gave them a recipe for crockpot chili. They were thrilled. The women of my family have always known how to cook...(although my bf cooks better than me!) buut its a skill I never take for granted. This channel also proves that you don't have to be like a chef to make good, home-cooked meals. Making home cooked meals is a life skill that everyone should have, and it's easy, too!
I made the potato soup yesterday and I did it exactly as Christine and her mother make it. OMG…that is soooo good!! I live by myself in an apartment, so I shared the soup with some of my neighbors in the building. They loved it as much as I did. Interestingly enough, one neighbor had two teeth pulled yesterday and that soup was ideal for him! I’m making the spicy noodles next, followed by the red beans and rice. Oh! I almost forgot! I made the cinnamon raisin bread last Sunday and it was another winner!
when you make a frugal meal make it special with a great dessert, here is my favorite recipe for zucchini: CHOCOLATE ORANGE ZUCCHINI CAKE Favorite Recipes of the Sutton Families & Friends Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour (unsifted) 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 cup cocoa 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 3/4 cup soft butter 2 cups sugar 3 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 tsp. grated orange rind 2 cups coarsely shredded zucchini 1/2 cup milk 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts Recipe instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, cocoa, baking, powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside. With mixer beat together the butter and sugar until they are smoothly blended. Add the eggs; one at a time, beating well after each addition. With a spoon, stir in the vanilla, orange peel, and zucchini. Alternately stir dry ingredients and the milk into zucchini mixture, including the nuts as a last addition. Pour into a greased & floured 10 inch tube pan or Bundt pan. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Turn out on wire rack to cool thoroughly. Drizzle glaze over top. Cut into thin slices to serve. GLAZE: Mix together 2 cups powdered sugar, 3 Tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla; beat until smooth.
Hey Christine! I have a great tip for when handling dough! Instead of putting flour on your hands, use some crisco and oil up :). This is how my Grandma had always done it 😊
Hi Christine! My husband and I watch your videos every Saturday morning while we drink our coffee. It’s something we both look forward to. Funny story, last year I had an Amazon gift card from work so we ordered the Cosori air fryer, it never came. Fortunately we were refunded our money. We would love to have a black one 😊
Your videos have made me always look for the WooHoo mark down stickers. So much fun. Huge savings. Always use them within 3 days. Found a package of 3 large portobella mushrooms for 99 cents. Grilled them . topped with cheese. Served with Chicken Kabobs. Total for dinner for 3 was $4.83.
I dropped in to tell you that I made your raisin bread. It’s really, really good! I almost never make anything from the many TH-cam food videos I see, mostly because the ingredients aren’t available where I live in Italy, but this one interested me, and all the ingredients were always in my pantry. I had a small problem because of cups instead of weight, I do have cups, though, and the difference in our flours, my mixture was very wet. Muddled through with confidence, as I am anything but an amateur, so I have tricks. If you end up with a wet dough, use more flour on your work surface, and use a dough scraper dipped in flour to manipulate it on the work surface, then put it on floured parchment, extra large sized. Fold and roll, repeat. Its never going to be a ball, but it should at least have a form after a while. When your pot is heated and dough rested, use the parchment like a sling to get it into the pot. Then return to Christine’s directions and you’ll have a delicious loaf.
Thank you for acknowledging that not all of us were able to have kids or to be at home to prepare meals. I still get a lot out of your videos and love watching how you enjoy your family, especially during the pandemic.
I don't know if I have a favorite, but what I did learn from this video was that there are lots of ways to make low costs meals and many of them do not involve meat. I have traditionally used meat as a basis, but this helped open my eyes as to what other things I can do to feed my family. Probably healthier without the meat as well. I greatly appreciate this video!
hey Christine! thought I would share my "efficient" method for chicken n dumplings. instead of making the mess and spending time rolling dough....I form my dough into a loose ball in the bowl...and then with thoroughly floured hands I pinch bite size pieces and plop them into the boiling soup (carefully). then any flour leftover just goes in the soup too and helps thicken it. quicker and less mess to clean later.
That's the way my mum used to do it 🤣 Reminds me of the joke Husband asks wife why do you always cut off the end of the meat joint before you put it in the pot That's how my mum always did it so she calls her mum and asks why she did it she says because that's how my mum did it so she calls her grandmother and asks why she always cuts the end of the joint Because it doesn't fit in my pot says the grandmother 🤣🤣😘
I’ve been watching you for awhile now and did my first ever freezer stuffed pepper meal prep with clearance peppers this past Monday haha. My life felt so put together!
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation for the incredible content you've been sharing on your channel. I've been watching your videos for the past few days, and I'm absolutely hooked! Your cooking tutorials have been particularly enjoyable, and I've learned so much from them. The effort and passion you put into your videos are truly commendable, and I wanted to personally thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with your viewers.Keep up the fantastic work! Your videos have not only entertained me but also inspired me to try new recipes and techniques in the kitchen. I genuinely appreciate your dedication to your craft, and I'm excited to see what you have in store for your audience in the upcoming videos!!!!
I made the potatoe soup. So easy, so delicious. A winner with the family and a new recipe for potlucks at work. Next time I'm gonna add real bacon bits and green onions as toppings. Yum! Thanks, Christine!
Wow, I felt like I was running a food marathon. Loved all the recipes, quick, fast, yummy, and economical. Can't wait to try a lot of them. I really admire your ability to make a home, a warm loving home. How you care for your family is so evident.
I had to rewatch the section where Ryan(?) popped in at least four times! My brain overloaded on the cuteness and I didn’t hear a single word you said. 😅 Thank you for another excellent cooking video, and for downloadable recipes! I'm sharing the link so my daughter in a college apartment can see you in action, making easy meal magic. Although I don't yet have an InstaPot and she can't use that or a Crockpot on campus, many recipes can still be made. I'm so happy to have another mom's cooking talents on video that she can watch and learn from as she starts experimenting on her own while she's away. I love that you are a flexible cook and tweak your recipes to suit your tastes and by what is available in your home; that is an essential skill. Thanks again! 💜
Normally I am not a fan of dry beans, beans in the can, etc. but you make them look not boring, but actually appetizing, may be I will finally prepare something with beans - and I will definitely start with one of your recipes.
OMG that potato soup recipe!! I just made it today, took a sip of the broth and it tastes excellent! Thanks for the video and please give your Mom a hug from me. She's a genius. I grew up in a large close extended family. Mom was oldest of 12. I cooked at home from a young age and later at many restaurants. This soup is one of the best I've tasted. Thank you!
Tip for the sticky dough - after forming the ball put them on the parchment paper on the counter for the final 30min proof then you can just drop the parchment and dough into the hot pan and don’t have to touch the sticky dough again wohoo!
Christine, I appreciate you sharing these recipes with your viewers. This type of knowledge is highly valuable. In the coming years- even more so. God bless you!
Me before watching Christine: 😕 Me after watching Christine: 😁 Thank you so much for sharing this with with all of these awesome recipes and thanks for the download, Christine! ❤️
In our family we make breakfast tacos with corn tortillas, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs and cheese. Delicious! One of three different tacos I make. Regular ground beef tacos and browned chicken and Mexican rice tacos with cheese.
Yup. As a kid, we lived off of beans, rice, tortillas, tomatoes, onions and chilies. My mom would use one chicken to feed a family of six and spread it out for two dinners (Enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, casserole bakes). Same with one lb of ground beef. She would bulk it up with rice or beans. Cutting back on meat was and still is an easy way to trim the budget.
Just a little tip, since you are a heavy freezer user: You can freeze butter! I buy Kerrygold when on sale and freeze it! Never run out of butter again...
Oh my goodness. My husband just asked me why I was cheering. I said “she corrected when she said did something good to doing it well!” His response “you must love her!” He laughs because whenever I am watching videos and someone says something like “I am doing good” , I scream - WELL! You are well! You aren’t out volunteering or saving cats right now! Thank you and thank you for more amazing recipes!
Tried the potato soup recipe and it was a hit with my family. It's a huge win for me when I can make 1 meal and everyone eats it without complaints!!! Thanks!!!
Morning. Been watching you several yrs. Really like your channel- your recipes are good.last channel I watched with you & your husband talking bout kids taking about who made me smile. Thanks for all yrs of enjoyment. God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon
Love this! I watched the whole thing and can't wait to try some of the recipes. I'll tweak a few because of families taste preferences, but just getting a base recipe is amazing. So a huge thanks! I will be downloading the recipe book. I know you put so much time into these videos and so much of yourself into them, and I want to tell you I appreciate all you do for me and the rest of us. You and your family are awesome.
Make you dough ball and let them rest on the parchment paper. Then just pick up the paper to get them into the heated Dutch oven…much easier! Great recipes! Thanks!
Now I know why you are such a good cook: your Mama is from Louisiana! It all makes sense now! I live in Baton Rouge and just about everybody here cooks great!
I'm looking forward to your next clean out the freezer videos, ❤❤ May I ask would you ever do another recreate a food hamper box video and show us what you can create from the box and your fridge/freezers/pantry and basement stockpile. Thanks for all your content its much appreciated
Oh, I'm all in for your Dad's Chicken and Rice. Next Mom's Red Beans and Rice. My Dad was from Lake Charles and we lived in East Texas 56 miles from the Louisiana border. Yes everything I make has Tony's on it. Great recipes Christine. Thanks.
Hi Christine, I made the spicy noodles for my two girls and they enjoyed it. I added chopped up chicken and cooked broccoli on the side. Thank you for the suggestion. Very easy to do.
i appreciate that there is no shame in your deal-gettin’ game! 89 cent can of clearance tomatoes? yep. clearance package of sausage links? you betcha. dusty can of refried beans? yeah. sometimes i feel weird trying to calculate the best cost per ounce or look for cheaper subs for expensive ingredients but it goes to show that smart people like you are unabashedly frugal. thanks for the great example!
Ryan is so adorable! I have been following you for yeaarrrrrssssss. You are relatable and I hope that doesn’t change. Hopefully one day you can come to NYC and try to food shop on a budget because everything is so expensive here!!!
Hi. Do you watch June on Delish? She does these videos called Budget Eats on Delish's TH-cam channel. She lives in NYC and comes up with great ideas and is just awesome.
Your mom's tastes better with the same recipe because food ALWAYS tastes better when someone else cooks it lol. All of these look good! Thank you, Christine!
Your little boy is a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e.!!! I wished he could see us waving back when he first sidled into view and waved at the camera, what a sweetie pie, what a smooch-able little face ❤❤❤
We have a very similar Taco soup recipe. I also add a packet of ranch seasoning mix and sometimes sliced black olives. We love topping our bowls with shredded cheese, sour cream, and Fritos! Taco soup is the best and reheats very well!
Lol.. your green chile measurements. I'm New Mexican, and I use a pound for breakfast casseroles. For this, if I weren't vegan I'd use probably about 12 oz, but you said you were from TX so you know how NMs are with our green chile. Lol Love this video!!! So many great ideas!! 😃
I made the baked chicken and rice with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and it was so good! I'd never made rice that way before, and now I want it all the time! :)
My Mom used small RED BEANS and ham bone to make beans and rice the red beans make the gravy fantastic. I love how you come up with your recipes. My husband can't eat alot of tomato products but I will be trying one of your black bean soup recipes next week.
Love this video! And I was surprised when I saw Ryan was so little then I figured it out😂 I really liked this because it seemed like a “best of” video and pulled together some fun, unique recipes.
Hi, If you let the dough rest on the parchment paper whilst on the counter, you can then just drop it in the hot dutch oven. No mess on your hands, the dough doesn't get disturbed, and you can make your design slashes in the dough. Enjoy!
My mother (who passed away a year ago) used to make slippery dumplings the exact same way for chicken and dumplings. That section of your video made me smile and remember so many evenings as a child rolling dumplings on the counter with her. But I was never allowed to drop them into the boiling brother because she didn't want me to splash and burn myself. :)
Love your videos I'm from New Orleans we eat red beans once a week especially on Mondays. Can't wait to try the chicken and dumplings that's my favorite thing to eat never made it before.
Ok yum! I am making that mexican black bean sausage chili right now! As soon as I saw this I put a pound of black beans in my instant pot and got some sausage out of the freezer. I'm going to put it in my crock pot for dinner tonight, can't wait!
omg your pizza crust recipe is a dutch baby! I make that for my kids all the time for breakfast but never thought to make it savory! ahh to the kitchen!
My friend taught me to make dumplin's with just egg and enough flour to make it barely pourable. Use a spoon to scrape bits straight into the pot. They puff a bit, so if you make them too big they might not cook well in the center.
When I make any kind of taco or tortilla soup, my family likes when I make homemade tortilla strips as a topping. I cut up any leftover tortillas and fry them quickly in oil. Drain them on a paper towel or shake in a brown paper bag
I am lactose intolerant and will find out a substitute for that potato soup! Please tell your mom ty!!! My (mom and & Dad) passed away a few years ago. 💔🥺 My mom and I would have loved to eat that soup together! I ALSO LOVE that story about your mom!!!
Just a suggestion but I would use one egg to go with ur water and flour for ur dumplings this is how my grandma always taught me and it will make ur dumplings a little thicker and fluffier love that u make meals on a budget 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration to use up what i had in my fridge and cabinets and the pot pie recipe idea. I did mine similarly to yours but with several tweaks as i used the instant pot to make the filling and used gasp canned chicken and canned peas yes i know im terrible but the rest is scratch made
I mostly cook vegetarian recipes, but I'm super keen to try some of these - even some of the meaty ones. I'd love to to also talk about portion size (as they would be less economical if you had larger portions (besides, smaller is probably better for us all anyway! 😉).
Love the compilation!! Some of my fav recipes you've done are in here (And even some I've forgotten!)! Gonna have to get that "FFM mini recipe book"! Awesome sauce 😍 thankyou
It’s really easy to take ground pork and make it into Mexican chorizo also not sure if there would be a big price difference I am from Canada in a very small town so it’s not available ready made.
Sometimes it’s better to shop the sales and make meals around those items, rather than a set meal plan. And when sales are extra good try and buy extra to put in the freezer or double a recipe to put in the freezer for a day you don’t feel or can’t cook that night. -Mom of 5 😁
Stopped video and breaking in here and don't laugh but I put on the potato soup for the 4 hrs on high before even watching the rest of the recipe...why...because I knew it would be good or you would not be showing it....that's called faith...LOL, ok back to watch you finish it. BTW....I saw the ingredients and knew I had the evaporated milk.....so back to the video....back...thanks for sharing...love them!
Hey Christine! Thank you so much for a video like this this is absolutely amazing thank you for taking the time not only to do this video but to also give us a printable for all the recipes this is awesome!
Thank you so much for this! I'm excited to print the recipes & add them to my binder of recipes. It will def help as we are trying to get back into the eating at home (and cleaning out the freezer!) & saving some extra $$$ for big travel plans!
When I make the Dutch oven bread, I form it then let it rest on the parchment paper. You can easily scope up the dough and drop it in the pot without even having to pull it out of the oven.
Thanks for this video and all your videos! I just prepped all the recipes from your Chicken Freezer Meals video just in time to come down with a sinus infection, and I couldn't be more thankful to have some meals ready to cook for the family. Thanks for making your recipes available and inexpensive!
I make chicken and dumplings (taught by my MIL a Nebraska farm girl) I don’t make flat noodle dumplings I use Bisquick and milk stir into a biscuit consistency and drop into boiling chicken broth lid on 10 minutes lid off 10 (approx). Have to make on the down low because everyone and their uncle will be at my table lol
another awesome video! a quick suggestion on the dumpling cutting - next time, use a pizza cutter.. it makes quick work of it and it doesnt "drag" the dough like a knife does. i use this trick with pie crusts, sheet pan biscuits and the crescent dough sheets, too, when I'm fixin up pigs in a blanket or homemade hot pocket type shizzle.. #kitchenhack
Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. Everything looks great! Can’t wait to try them. PS. I love the t-shirt you wear that says I’m correcting your grammar. That’s something I picked up from my mama. 😂
Chorizo Queso with peppers and onions is one of our favorite dishes. Serve hot in a small cast iron skillet with corn tortillas and salsa. SUPER dinner.
This video is the best thing I'm seeing in my adult life... I'm 26 and my husband and I just started eating beans more often, cooking dried beans.. I honestly could cry because of all the help you're giving me right now. Thank you, 100 times, over.

A 43-minute Christine cooking video?? Yes, please! 😁
Ditto!

Hey Christine! I have a great tip for when handling dough! Instead of putting flour on your hands, use some crisco and oil up :). This is how my Grandma had always done it 😊
And beautiful nails and cuticles I’m sure of it!
I have had no problems with sticky dough since I started oiling rather than flouring the board and my hands.
I spray my hands with Pam prior to handing dough and it works really well

Just a little tip, since you are a heavy freezer user: You can freeze butter! I buy Kerrygold when on sale and freeze it! Never run out of butter again...
I love that you actually prepare meals from scratch rather than just dump a lot of processed foods into a crock pot.
Thank you!
I love Rogue's little paws in the upper right hand corner when you were cooking the noodle dish.
Oh my goodness. My husband just asked me why I was cheering. I said “she corrected when she said did something good to doing it well!” His response “you must love her!”
He laughs because whenever I am watching videos and someone says something like “I am doing good” , I scream - WELL! You are well! You aren’t out volunteering or saving cats right now!
Thank you and thank you for more amazing recipes!
Then I laugh because in the next clip you are wearing your grammar shirt. (Note: correcting my grammar does not apply to my punctuation!)
There is so much value in this video. You really went above and beyond. Thank you for all your hard work.
Tried the potato soup recipe and it was a hit with my family. It's a huge win for me when I can make 1 meal and everyone eats it without complaints!!! Thanks!!!
Good afternoon Christine. Once again, another superb video. I'm definitely having this tonight. Have a great weekend full of family, food and fun.
Morning. Been watching you several yrs. Really like your channel- your recipes are good.last channel I watched with you & your husband talking bout kids taking about who made me smile. Thanks for all yrs of enjoyment. God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon
Your husband and kids are so lucky for having you to cook such delicious meals....
Thanks!
Your son is so freaking adorable waving at the camera 😂❤️
Now I know why you are such a good cook: your Mama is from Louisiana! It all makes sense now! I live in Baton Rouge and just about everybody here cooks great!
I'm looking forward to your next clean out the freezer videos, ❤❤
May I ask would you ever do another recreate a food hamper box video and show us what you can create from the box and your fridge/freezers/pantry and basement stockpile. Thanks for all your content its much appreciated
Oh, I'm all in for your Dad's Chicken and Rice. Next Mom's Red Beans and Rice. My Dad was from Lake Charles and we lived in East Texas 56 miles from the Louisiana border. Yes
everything I make has Tony's on it. Great recipes Christine. Thanks.
No knead bread in the Dutch oven. My fave of all your recipes. Loved all of this. The flash backs of your old kitchen was awesome.
Hi Christine, I made the spicy noodles for my two girls and they enjoyed it. I added chopped up chicken and cooked broccoli on the side. Thank you for the suggestion. Very easy to do.
✋️ I have been here 2 years! I absolutely love your videos. You have helped me so much. THANK YOU!
Wow, I got everyone that I know to sub to you when you were getting to 400k. Now you are so close to 500k. So proud for you and your channel ❤️
Thank you! Watched/listened while cleaning in the kitchen and then watched through again because I’m making some of these!
i appreciate that there is no shame in your deal-gettin’ game!
@@EmmaHope88 I had not heard of her! This is very interesting thank you so much
Your mom's tastes better with the same recipe because food ALWAYS tastes better when someone else cooks it lol. All of these look good! Thank you, Christine!
I've been with you from the start of your channel so I'm proud to say I've watched you make all these recipes before .😃
Your little boy is a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e.!!! I wished he could see us waving back when he first sidled into view and waved at the camera, what a sweetie pie, what a smooch-able little face ❤❤❤
We love bean and rice bowls!
So inexpensive, I always make enough for lunch the next day.
Lol
Love this video!!! So many great ideas!! 😃
I'm in Colorado. I use lots of green chilies too. Just made a batch of green chili. Mmmm mmmm
I love to chop things up too. Especially if I'm upset or tense. It's very soothing.
Hi,
If you let the dough rest on the parchment paper whilst on the counter, you can then just drop it in the hot dutch oven. No mess on your hands, the dough doesn't get disturbed, and you can make your design slashes in the dough. Enjoy!
This is just in time! I went shopping today and nearly fainted from the prices. So thanks for some new inspiration.
I love that you put all your recipes from the last few years in one video🎉😊
SO excited for this! With the cost of groceries now, this will be very helpful! Thank you so much!
You’re my favorite TH-camr to watch. I just love watching your content and your family. Thanks for sharing with us! ❤️
Love the cooking videos!! So much fun to see the little kiddos!!
My favorite part about watching you and Kim is knowing when you reference each others videos. 😍😂
Christine, I love your videos and I'd love to see you do international frugal family meals. thanks for all your hard work.
My mom and I would have loved to eat that soup together!
For the meaty ones, I usually sub mushrooms or firm tofu.
Absolutely love this!!! Setting up my grocery list for a week at a time (first time and family of 5) so doing some of your recipes.
I AM GOING TO MAKE EVERYTHING AND FREEZE HALF. THANK. YOU. literally saving us HUNDREDS. and it’s my children proof. All the meals. THANK YOU
loved when your son popped up and waved lol too cute
Wow this video was ALOT of work. I was thinking I need a list of go to dinners. THANK YOU for the hard work and the help!
Your son stole the entire show 😂 that was adorable!
Oh yeah!! Friday Christine video!! Plus cooking/recipes one?! Oh yeah!! Whoop!! Whoop!!🙌🙌
Hi Christine!! These cooking videos of your are my favorite! And of course your amazing positive funny sarcastic attitude 😅😆🥰 loves so much!!
