Making beehive frames from scratch! Unless you're going to mass produce them, buy the components. If you have the time, it is much cheaper; I made 80 frames for under $20 (and 10-16 hours of work).

WOOOOOW man, I was student at St. Louis, MO and it was from 2005 - 1999 .. that's where i learned my English 🙄 this is so cool to find someone who like beekeeping via youtube! I rememeber i was living by Chesterfield mall apartments 😀😂 anyway, since 1999 am back home here in United Arab Emirates and everything is cool.. good days back in the USA for sure.
as a woodworker i do have a suggestion. in the case of the sides where you cut the notches for the top and bottom to fit inside, try cutting the notches before you've sliced them into individual sides. after you've cut the blocks to length from the 2x10 set up your tablesaw with a dado blade (or just move the fence over a little after each cut) to cut the notch. after each side (top and bottom) of the blocks have been notched, cut into strips then just trim the edges as you've been doing. the set up you used in the video of clamping all the parts together then cutting the notch has probably worked for you so far, but there is a greater chance of mistake and accident. the notching before cutting into strips would also work elsewhere too. doing it like this will cut back on repetitive motions, speed up your work and leave less room for mistakes.
other than that i think i will give this a try. I'm on a tight budget and my bees need to expand.
do you use foundation or wires in your frames or let the bees build on their own? i have a mind to not use wire or foundation, but id like to hear your input on that
Thanks for the tips! This year I did cut out the notches before I cut the top pieces apart. It did work out better. I didn't have a dado blade, unfortunately!
I did use foundation in these, but this year I did just a strip of foundation in the top and then wire guides going down between the top and bottom bars.They drew out pretty well along these guides and saved on foundation costs.
as someone who cuts a lot of wood - adjust blade height just a little above the wood being cut - this keeps you from cutting a finger off instead of a little meat in case you get into the blade
S Kel yes! Good point. Only needed when cutting edges of sides in this case. Also it exposes more of blase to wood, reducing ripping or tearing.

Lots of saw work, good job.
You need to pick up a bandsaw if you are going to make frames. You are turning a huge amount of material into sawdust with that thick old table saw blade.

Just curiosity kicking up. But would it be easier to cut the notches in the side pieces first before you cut the slices?
I've never made a frame but I think as many cuts you could do before slicing all the pieces would be best. Also I think you would get more pieces of you used a thin need bandsaw.
And your right. There are alot of cuts to making frames.

Yeah, I AM a woodworker and I found this video useless.
All it is really, is high speed repetition.
If the purpose is to show how much work and repetition goes into making the item, it's a great success.
If it's purpose was any kind if teaching, instruction, "how to" etc....... Sorry bro but it's a fail.
IF that was your purpose, next time eliminate all the repetition, show it in real speed, tell what each cuts purpose is and show how each step is done.
If your reason for the vid has nothing to do with instruction, "how to", teaching etc .....if it was just to show a time lapse of the process, then I apologise, ignore my nonsense.
Soooo many process cuts could have been saved, simply by making all the the width cuts and groove cuts out of the full length of the 2x10

Real time would take 8 hours. That's why it was sped up.

Not counting your time.
Just comparing material cost against what you can buy say 100 unassembled frames.
