      Probably the company that owns it. Disney has abandoned properties that still have running water and power. They're paying for it either on purpose or because they've forgotten. It's quite common honestly. The people who own this hotel probably have some idea of what they want to do with it.

    I just want to say that I very much appreciate the respect that you guys give to these locations like not disclosing addresses and if there's a chance that security may get involved that the decision is made to leave. Too many "explorers" do things like break windows and glass, steal salvageable metal, or just generally vandalize properties and it's amazing to see people who just want to document and record a building's history and see these sort of 'time capsules' of the near past.

      Yeah! I’m so sorry for such a nice, still intact building which has been abandoned. Why does nobody use it for another purpose? It could be transformed in a local museum, maybe re-opened as a little concert hall completed by offices, music and/or artists’ studios. I don’t understand this waste of former expensive buildings and their interiors. It’s a shame to let rot all these potential accommodations for people in need or creatives!

    My mother used to be a security guard at this place and the common consensus of the now former staff is that the place got shut down due to a mix of money issues and shitty business practices. One person on management was found out to be stealing credit card numbers, there was a lot of in-staff fighting going on, another manager was constantly just not around, and then there was the whole issue of the place being renamed in preparation for being handed off to a new owner and then the deal never went through, which you touched upon in the video. The ballrooms and that main large room were often used for small conventions, meetings, and receptions. Part of the reason for the hotel's bad rep is due to location. The other hotel that is a stone throw away from this one was known as being a drug and pimp hotel. You would often have people from that hotel coming to this one and causing trouble. I stayed at this hotel several times myself and found the place nice and clean, but the poor reviews are def a reflection of the staff problems. FunFact; that massive room in the middle used to be an indoor pool area, but it was filled in/removed a long while ago. Also, the place is haunted. My mom and several staff had eerie experiences there.

      in retrospect it sounds like a good idea but its never that simple. the cost to let them live there would be enormous. someone always has to pay. not to mention it would bring the value down of places around it. if they could freely sign a waiver and just go in and nobody had to worry about it thatd be great but thats not reality. i have a shit ton of abandoned homes in my area. about 8 per street. homeless people destroy them pretty fast.

Hence the electric company doesn't care, they don't make more or less money in the end, the government pays the bill and the government doesn't care because it is taxpayer money. As far as finding, urban explorers have several websites to communicate about sites like this. Some of the more well-known sites I've seen urban explorer channels visit have actually run into other urban explorers. As for getting in, it's often luck or finding a whole in the lock-up, such as a broken window, fence, hole in the boards, things like that. In many cases abandoned sites don't do a great job of maintaining the secured areas, or if you're lucky you'll catch them in between repairs. And I recall one video where one group almost got trapped when security patched up the holes they used to get in.

    It’s sad to see a property like this but in all honesty, after being in the hotel industry for 13-years and going through ownership change after ownership change, a lot of the reason why hotels start to “age” is because the owners of the property don’t bother investing in the building itself and the management (Red Lion Hotels) can only do so much with the financial resources it had/has. Once hotels start failing their BSA (Brand Standard Audits) it doesn’t take long before they get deflagged. Often times, a management company will make small improvements just to pass their BSA but then go right back to their old ways. Then you have the issue of the annual market analysis. Is the hotel viable and competitive enough? What are other hotels of the same rates doing in the area. So while it is easy to blame the hotel staff it really comes down to ownership and if ownership doesn’t care then the employees don’t care and once that happens, there is no recovery.

    • @andrewbrendan1579
      @andrewbrendan1579 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for this information. It really adds to our understanding of why hotels go out of business. I wonder how much similarity there is to the management companies that run apartment complexes. I've lived in the same small apartment complex for 13 years and have been under five owners and/or managment companies and the place has visibily deteriorated. I"m guessing that minimum work is being done to keep the place up to code and for a while the laundry room was probably below safety codes. I live in a college town and read how one rental property owner is also a business teacher at the university and even said he does the minimum required by law for his properties.

And those people are not always wrong. Case in point: education has been defunded heavily over the years but any mention of defunding police or military is met with outrage. Yes we need programs for the homeless but let's get to the root of the problem. Addiction. Mental health. Education. The very things that are not likely to get funded. Thank the Reagan administration for that. Gov't funding for those programs were gutted way back in the 80s. Some of these properties have liens on them, some have been deemed uninhabitable for various reasons, some are earmarked for future use, slated for eventual demolition, etc. In a perfect world some of these places could be repurposed for new housing. THIS ALSO TAKES $. The financial situation worldwide is about to get really crazy. Foreclosures, businesses folding, evictions, job losses. Some kinda solution will have to come up and soon. Governments world wide will have to jump in at some point. At least one would hope. Donations and private sector $ ain't gonna be there, and yes there is going to be a housing crisis like never seen before. Wish ourselves luck!

    I go past this hotel on my way to work everyday. It's changed names 2 or 3 times in the past 2 years. It's huge with really nothing to bring visitors around it. It has to be difficult maintaining a larger hotel with nothing to entice large crowds in to sell out the rooms. My friend, who stayed there from time to time for work, was told they were closing for an extensive remodel back in September 19' but obviously there hasn't been an attempt at that. Also was told the rooms were a, "Hit or a miss" as far as mold, cleanliness, and bugs go.

      shaun king Not really, abandoned generally means the owners or anyone with the company doesn’t go there anymore and just left it to rot, not in operation just means that they aren’t using it for business but still are making repairs, maintaining it to an extent and has real future plans.

      My Phone Nothings abandoned, it’s just a buzzword that ‘urban explorers’ use to justify what they do. Everything is owned by someone, no one is gonna buy a multi million dollar hotel and then just be like ‘fuck it no one wants it anymore let’s just leave and abandon it’. Someone owns the building, someone owns the land. No matter how run down or derelict it seems.

      Looks a lot better in the video than the last time I was there. The owners let it decay for years. There are mold, bug and water problems all over. Looks like they FINALLY did a few cosmetic fixes (the ballroom carpet looks like it was changes since 2017) that they had been promising for YEARS prior.

    Either the owners clean up their act and fix whatever's wrong there (and with themselves) and restart the business or sell it to someone else who can. True, there was a deal but it never went through, as you said, but there must be someone out there who will. I mean if I had a hotel company where I buy a property, fix it up, and open it, I would do that with that place. Really I think demolishing the place would be more expensive, and instead of turning untouched land into a hotel, recycle this place!

    The weird thing about this is that I looked into it, and the restaurant actually closed January 2019 despite the hotel not closing till August of the same year. Makes you wonder what kind of hotel would knowingly still operate knowing there was rotten food/meat near by. The pool also stopped being used by May. Hotel workers kept telling guests that the restaurant and pool were just merely under construction but construction never took place. Eventually close to the end they told guests the facilities were closed indefinitely

    It’s closed/inactive because of the corona virus. Being the video is only a week old, and I was able to find out where it’s located and it says it’s open on the internet. If it had been closed since September, they would have listed it as open on the websites.
