STILL the best tutorial for tuning new filaments.
🙏🏼
Very useful and explained.
duuuude. Youre the first person who is able to show me the process of correct calibration of my printer! Thank you so much!!! This is so insane easy, why was nobody else able to explain it like this? Thanks again my friend!
I'm not a huge fan of overthinking calibration. Peeps would be shocked at how little time I spend on this kind of stuff, and I don't consider myself especially super-star at it, but, it surely has it's place, and I'm happy to help peeps work through it, without going crazy. Very welcome. Hit that Super Thanks button, to help me keep going. :)
Absolutely right! Sent a little thanks to you :-)
So helpful. Thanks much. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I bought a printer this weeks and have be attempting to tune it. I'm very grateful for this video, concise and great quality.
wow! This is a great walkthrough. I only wish i had seen this video a year ago because this would've saved me so much trouble. However, now that i've had enough time and experience, I totally understand what you're sharing here. This is a great video. you have a new fan!
This is an excellent description of what to do. Just got my printer set up tonight and now I’m running through these tests. 👍
This is the video i've been looking for
Thank you for this!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for this!
Awesome
Thanks for sharing this! Huge expansion of my knowledge of testing and USING the previous good value(s) for the next test(s). Somehow that tidbit of knowledge escaped me when watching videos about running individual tests.
Even better news, there is a major update to the extension since this video. Make sure you have it. I believe it's 7.1 or 7.2
Thanks - I have Cura 5.4.0 and Auto Towers 2.6.0 - running on Winders @@3DRundown
new to printing. this is a game changer.
Thanks man this video help me a lot!!!!!
Thank you mate!
Epic! Much love to you. Peeps like you, make this possible. Thanks so much. Very Welcome Mate!
Congratulation on a very objective and well-done "lecture"!
"Lectures" are the term used on UDEMY, so, I find that a perfect choice of words! Happy to help. :)
>For Auto Towers to funtion MUST run post scrips, Extensions--> Post Processing-->Modify G Code. Then select Add Scripts. Select the one you want to use for the Auto towers you select earlier. Select the parameters. If you have doubts search for more videos.
😂😂😂
@@3DRundown 😬🥴🙃
was waiting for the script instructions 😂
Greg this is absolutely great! I e never ran Cura before, but after this video I'll definitely take a shot at it. I've only tried Supersclicer so far. After switching to the Spider V 3 I've had to make small adjustments. Keep up the great work
I like cura allot! I have a bunch of stuff to help catch you up. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
This video is just what I needed today after printing something and it came out super stringy. I found the right temp so far and I am working my way down the line of the other towers so I can save this profile for the filament I am using Thank you!
Be sure to get the newest version of the extension.
@@3DRundown I just got the program last weekend and the extensions last night after watching this video. Its been great as of last night and helpful! I got a Ender 3 S1 Pro and then I see the V3. Sigh. (I won’t start a farm. I won’t start a farm)
omg, I know.... Honestly, I'm ready for the V3. Not a fan of the S1 lineup. The V3 is a huge leap foward. Stay tubed for news on the 14th! START A FARM!!! lol
@@3DRundown hahaha. I can’t wait. Was thinking of coming down to MD for that event on the 30th
I'll be there with the V3.
Valeu!
Thanks so much, Super's are SO helpful!!
I will do it for PETG because I have an issue with the strings. With PLA I have no problem. Greetings from Spain.
Greetings from, NJ, USA
Been guessing for last couple of weeks 😅😅 time to workout and understand the settings
Smarter, not harder. :P
Great video, thank you! A small question, why do you switch off "Print cooling"?
To take that out of the equation.
Great vid! I've been looking for the best order to do these tests in. Thank you!! When I tested the temp tower, after it bridges across 2 lines, it starts doing a zigzag pattern. I thought it would always bridge straight across. Is the zigzag normal? It doesn't look like I can modify it.
Right. First you get a bridge, then a top surface.
@@3DRundown Each bridge has 3 layers. It starts to zigzag during the first layer. I guess I thought it would go straight across for the entire first layer, then zigzag on the second and 3rd layer.
Ah yes, that makes sense.
Great description. My only problem is my eyesight sucks and trying to look closely at those tiny towers is difficult. lol I need a magnifying glass to see what layer is best.
If they are BAD, you'll KNOW. If they look similar, then that range is likely safe. Look for mega failure, to eliminate those settings, and get a better idea of what is too Hot, Too Fast, Too Much, etc. this will help you get closer to something that works. Truth be told, I have only used towers 2-3 times ever. Start with stock profiles, they are very good these days. Work from there. Avoid changes unless you see a need
Nothing for ASA filament which filament would be closest to it?
Hi. Thank you for the walkthrough. With the temp tower, do we care about rhe stringing or only about the layer ans surgace quality. Some of the best layers, surfaces and edges look better on he higher temps but they have stringing.
Higher temps tend to cause stringing. Id stop the stringing, then figure out the rest. For PLA and PLA+ nearly any brand will be ok around 200-205. May have wet filament or retraction issue. If stringing just wont go away. Wet filament is likely the issue, or too much retraction distance.
@@3DRundown thank you so much for the prompt reply. I'm take that advice. I'm new in the filament pushing game. In what order would you do which towers to calibrate my E3v3 se?
I have a V3 here, but haven't even turned it on. I feel guilty. I'm out of space and time. This years new releases have been nonstop....
I'm not a huge fan of towers. If using them: 1st, be sure they are even working. See if the temps are changing, during the print, for example. Start with a stock profile. Avoid any drastic changes. I would set your temp at 200, and check retraction 1st.
I prefer to work myself, using something like this: www.printables.com/model/75704-retraction-test
and this: www.printables.com/model/251890-stringing-test
The 2nd one is much more complex. If can survive that one, you know you are good.
The E3 V3 with it's sprite, really shouldn't be strining much. What slicer are you on, what profile, and what is it showing for retraction speed and distance? Distance should be somewhere around 0.8, as it's a Direct Drive.
Also, feel free to pop into my group, and post in more detail: facebook.com/groups/ender3v3
@@3DRundown seems like I have a ton to get through to get the machine tuned up. I have both creality print and cura. Doing the towers on cura. Did the auto temp tower and it gave me 220, this is with petg by the way, and did a flow wich gave me a 90 as the cleanest although 110 didn't look to bad except for the top layer for it. Only 90 and 110 didn't have any stringing at all with 90 looking best. Following your guide in the video and slowly working my way through. I'm busy printing the retract distance 4-9 tower now.
When you do get to the v3 we do a video on it. Yeh this year has been loaded with new releases. You're going to be a very busy guy in 2024. subd
Question when you pull up the temp tower, and slice it to the memory card will it mess up the settings? I sliced the one for pla and it doesnt seem to change temps as it prints?
It shouldn't.... Gonna need to test some on my machines!
How do you add the spiral flow test? It doesn't come on the plug-in unless they removed it. Please let me know. I'd like to try it out. im using Cura 5.6.0
Been ages since I've been on Cura, but I'll try to check
Do you need to add the post processing to modify the g-code?
Shouldn't need to add anything to this file.
Update your extension: github.com/kartchnb/AutoTowersGenerator/releases/tag/v2.7.1
I have an ender 3 s1 pro which has a dirct drive. So my retraction should be bellow 1. Is there a way to chang the tower so it runs from 0.4 to 1 or something similar ?
0.8 for the S1 will be fine
IS there no temp tower for ASA? What should I use instead, ABS?
I'm not sure. I'd have to look into it, as I almost never actually use temp towers. I've used them on exactly one machine ever. :)
I use a bequ h2v2 my retraction is set at 0.5 can i chanege the settings tp go 0.4 to 1
It's all in the gcode. Should be able to do that
on retraction distance, mine was best at 11. does that mean i set the retraction distance as 11 mm or 1.1mm?
11 is REALLY high, but 11 is 11. Which machine is this? For Bowden setup, 5-8ish is typical
@3DRundown it was at 11 on the auto tower, but realising that it was ridiculous, I changed the temp and its now working pretty good at 3, but i still need to fine tune it. Ender 3 s1. Thanks for the reply
3 is still too high, if a Sprite. Get down to 0.8ish if a Spride Direct Drive. 5-6ish for Bowden.
Flow tower doesn’t seem to be changing?
What amount of infill is needed thanks
Any. Won't matter. We only care what happens during travel. 5-5% is fine.
I'm new to 3d printing, but I just used the auto tower plugin, and it does *NOT* add the scripts to actually affect the settings during print.
For example, the flow tower. I exported it as is, and the .gcode did not make any changes to the flow rate. It is very important that you verify your tests are genuine tests. Otherwise you're going to go against placebo results, making you change variables without proper tests...
The way to fix this is to go to post processing, and enabling the correct script. You wanna make sure the settings are correct there, and the increment has to be checked against the preview. If the increment is 40, then you would expect the next iteration in that script to occur every 40 layer line. So 40, 80, 120. You can visually check that in the preview.
Are you runnin version 7.1? (7.2 is awaiting approval).
@@3DRundown I'm running the latest public.
For the other calibration plug in however, their scripts work fine
Peeps: Check in with your results. Are the gcode changes working?
Cura 5.3.1
PLA temp tower doesn’t seem to be working.
So far none of the towers change settings automatically. Neither the temp tower or flow tower do any changes as they print. Maybe you could show where you can show where you check the settings are applied in the slicer (Cura)
Check the GCODE by opening the sliced file in a txt editor. Mine are working. I tested yesterday on a 5+. I had another test for me on their 3 Neo. Curious why no luck with yours...
@@3DRundown what should i look for in the file to check if the changes are there? TY
Love your guidance. Per your request and after printing a flow test, I noticed the flow never changed so stopped to see what was up. I used Cura 5.4 to slice and low and behold there were no M221 commands anywhere. Don't fret, nor were there any in CURA's own flow tests so something is interfering with the generation of this. I'll dive into that later.
Attempting to verify my findings, I checked g-codes generated for both of the flow towers in Prusa, and Notepad++. At no time were there any M221 commands found. The computer world is bizare so don't fret, and like Gowerman I looked up the 7 necessary layers (easy to find via any slicer) then jumped into the g-code reader (notepad) and to each of those layers I added the M221 S ** numbers as needed. Now off to give it a try.
Please keep up the outstanding work as you've helped me a bunch.
The temp tower didn't work for me on my Anycubic Vyper. The initial layer pattern is very weird and lays an inner layer, then an outer layer over that making it very thick too fast, even on my "Fine Profile" setting. I tried to run it twice and within 3 layers it was unusable so I canceled both tests.
Bummer. Sorry to here. If you end up with one that works, link me to it
