Roy Benevediz inspired Rambo and actually did more than Rambo did in first blood. They straight up said if his accomplishments were a movie, no one would believe it.
I remember when I was young, a friend of the family showed me his war wound. The entry and exit bullet points in his thigh from his time in Vietnam. Giant, nasty looking scar tissue. My mother told me that his wife said that he would wake up in the middle of the night screaming and he once almost hurt his wife bad during one of those night terrors.
I never cry at movies, but this one made me tear up during the end pictures. Seeing actors get "killed" on screen isn't the same as seeing the actual faces who really were killed.
I see it in my country-- go to the graveyard and see hundreds of 🇺🇦 flags with soldiers, civilians, kids... And will be more . I'm a strong girl, but seeing this...
6:40 is the real lone survivor, Marcus Luttrell. He has a few short scenes in this and wrote the memoir it is based on. The real story is even crazier than the movie. Stranded alone, basically paralyzed lower body from broken vertebrae, a grenade injured leg, two gunshot wounds and broken bones. Had to crawl along the mountainside to find water. And he was eventually rescued by two villagers and shuttled between houses for 4-5 days, even being hidden in a cave at some point, until the rescue teams could get to him. He ended up moving several of the people who helped him over to Texas near him for their protection. Amazing people. He tells the story on Joe Rogan’s podcast. It’s a real tear-jerker, but very much worth the listen.
yeah, Marcus had said that in order to keep him self going he would draw a line in the dirt and make it his goal to move past that line, then draw another one and he did that for so long.
The main "creative license" they took was what happened in the Afghan village. In the book Marcus wrote he says they snuck him out during the night and brought him to a group of Army SOF in the area, rather than the dramatic gunfight/rescue op.
This movie only shows a small fraction compared to the book Marcus told the director when making this “ you dishonor my brothers in anyway, I’ll kill you”….. this is extremely accurate.
Wow! I don't blame him for saying that. Hollywood often destroys true, courageous stories, or it makes them into something silly. I'm glad they did it justice! 😭 It's so sad, brutal and courageous. My heart can't take it!
@@tinahastie in the book he goes more in depth about the mission, he also explains that the entire state of Texas went to his momma house when Marcus was missing to take care of her. Then a few years later when Marcus was home someone ended up shooting his dog and while on the phone with the police he told them “find him before me or they will die”
This movie was startlingly and necessarily brutal. That they didn't shy away from how much gunfire and injuries they sustain gets tough to watch, cause they really go through the wringer all the way to their dying breaths.
My best friends ever is a retired MARSOC Marine now and he was a part of this Rescue Mission rescue Marcus. This movie always hits home for me knowing that my brother was part of this
After Marcus was retired, he got a service dog. A couple guys killed the dog. Marcus grabbed a gun, got in his truck, called the police, and chased the guys down with the police. He told the police dispatch that the guys better pray that the cops got them before he did. This was the inspiration for John Wick.
You should go find the story of the group of Army Rangers who were sent to recover the bodies and who tracked Marcus down through the mountains for 3 days when they only had rations for 1 day.
Yeah Ive seen that podcast , amazing and devastating. A lot of Lutrells speech’s at events are on TH-cam about the whole mission , it’s unreal! His description of the falling off the rock and biting his tongue off and choking on it into unconsciousness and then his broken femurs and how he crawled for 7 miles only able to use his arms is wild. Have u seen that viral “John Chapman first ever recorded on film Medal of Honor act” of the SEAL team and John a JTAC going back to save a teammate and his unbelievable actions that night and following day on drone footage. It’s amazing and humbling.
34:44 I have seen this movie about 200 times now lol. And I cry every time. As soon as Murphy says he’s gonna make the call … tears start. When he makes the call and when the cowards shoot him in the back… what’s crazy is they tried to recreate every shot the real guys had in their bodies as well. Before some of the families allowed this movie I think it was dietz? Dad had Michael burg sit and read his autopsy report and mission report. So he could know specifically what happened and how and where he was shot. And how brave he was. And how he wanted that reflected in the movie.
59:00 There's a quote by Mark Twain (paraphrasing): The difference between fact and fiction is that fiction has to be believable. Something to think about, especially when going into other history based movies, like "Hacksaw Ridge."
Dirty has natural clotting abilities. It can cause infection but at the time its better to stop the bleeding then worry about infection later, one thing at a time in a gunfight.
35:34 “that’s crazy he’s still alive.” In the book, Marcus said that when he looked at Axe shot in the head, he know Axe was dead. He’d already been shot 5 or 6 times and then in the head. Marcus said he knew Axe was dead, Axe’s body just didn’t know it yet. Axe was actually the first one to get shot. Marcus said he was leaned up between these two big rocks, peeking out the side of one with his rifle. Marcus watched the first round go through and through Axe’s chest. He said Axe slumped forward against the rock for half a second, muttered “well that sucks,” and was right back up slotting dudes with his weapon, right back into the fight. That’s how hard these dudes are.
Search for interviews with Marcus Luttrell. Most of the story took place after the fall down the side of the mountain. Marcus crawled for 7 days. An estimated 7 miles. He crawled because he had no feeling in his legs.
I recommend for everyone watch the viral real drone footage “the first ever recorded on film Medal of Honor actions of John Chapman” it’s the actual drone footage of John Chapman a JTAC with a SEAL team going back to rescue/recover their teamate that was knocked out of the back of the CH-47 Chinook when it was hit by an RPG. Helicopter flew 7 kms and crashed and a new one came with the remaining 6 teammates requesting to go back and rescue their fallen teammate, you see the events that lead to a 1 VS 27 firefight in the end that led to a Medal of Honor for John. It shows what these guys are truly made of, a different breed of human beings that can still fight hand to hand and with a rifle with 16 bullet and shrapnel wounds. Be a good memorial week watch for everyone and is truly unbelievable! 20:41 the old man the let go says “you will all be dead my nightfall” Lutrell said in a podcast he remembered the old man saying something to Murphy after cutting them loose and on the hike up the other side pre-fire fight he asked what the man said as Murphy knew a bit of the language and he replied something to the effect of “you’ll all be dead by nightfall”. They already cut the 2 kids loose by then and we’re out of sight but he knew then he’ll was comming.

So glad to finally see my favorite reactors watching one of my favorite movies of all time. The opening with the BUD/S footage really is awesome, glad you caught on to them being in SEAL training early on. I'm also really happy that you finished all the end credits of this one. Please do consider watching the Band of Brothers HBO mini-series.
For the past 4 years my brother-in-law has been participating in The Murph Challenge on Memorial Day and this year my sister and her friend joined him. You have to do a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and then another mile run and do all of it in a 20lb vest or body armor. The proceeds of the event go to the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
I'll never forget seeing this movie In the theatre. It was PACKED, and at the end of the movie you could hear a pin drop. People wiping tears off their face on the way out. What I told myself after seeing this movie is "I'll never complain again, ever." I never had to jump off a cliff to save my life. I never got shot at. I never had to run for my life.
The one thing I wished they considered or explained to us is why didn't they bring the three of them on the hike up and let them go once they made contact with command.
Soon as they grabbed the shepards the clock was ticking, routines. The tali knew the routes and when exactly they would be back etc so they would have noticed when the farmers and goats didn’t show up. There’s a cool video where real Marcus talks briefly about all the options they considered
Makes you wonder if all these military ops were in vain? So many soldiers and innocents lost lives just for the people who were not supposed to take control, that ended up taking control. So many families lost loved ones, never getting to see them again. That's more of a tragedy here, reality of conflict that has nothing to do with badassary and the machoness of the warrior spirit. It's about the humanity of it all, and how people can and always will be resilient and willing to help people in need regardless of who and what they are.
Lol when you said "screw it, GO!" when the recuse crew was told they cannot fly without cover, knowing what was about to happen due to having no cover :P
20:46 “I feel like those two are pretty innocent.” I read somewhere someone translated what the old man is saying in Farsi or Pashtun or whatever it is. He’s saying “we’re going to kill you. You’re all going to die, we’re going to kill you.”
The guy that spilled the cup and asked Patton to clean it as his first task, he's the real Marcus Luttrell. After the Chinook helicopter was shot down, Army Rangers were deployed to assist Air Force Pararescuemen in the recovery of the bodies and the rescue of Marcus Luttrell. I've heard a rumor before saying that locals and talibans in the region heard helicopter noises (during the Navy SEALs' insertion) and are already suspicious that some American forces were in the area. If that's true then the SEALs' special reconnaissance mission has failed even before it started.
The ending was changed and Marcus claimed he crawled 7 miles cause he couldn’t walk. Gulab and Marcus walked to an extraction site, the village fight didn’t happen
And this is why I've been a firm believer in Murphy's Law- everything that can go wrong, did go wrong. I think one of my favorite scenes is the footage where Marcus Luttrell is going through BUDS and the people who are training with him are singing silent night on Christmas
Actually if anything the real story is even more of A Hollywood story. It's just super crazy, and if you do research you'll know how much crazy it was. (All in all, if anything they made it less crazy then it was.)
Oh it is real. The real Marcus Luttrell was actually in this and one of the operators at the beginning at the table...with the sunglasses on. And he was ADAMANT that this movie be done accurately. So much so that he went to a meeting of all the screenplay writers and producers and such and threatened them, lol. He told them that they'd BETTER do right by his fallen brothers and their legacies or he'd kill every one of them...he didn't give a fuck. :)
24:39 the real Marcus said if it didn’t look real there was no point to make the movie. The actors trained for days with real seals on movements shooting everything. And Marcus was really pleased he said with how this came out. He was hesitant about the falls down the cliffs and stuff and when he saw it he was floored cause they was went for it the stunt doubles just killed their bodies and were amazing in the falls
I once heard a retired general refer to our special forces personnel as “olympic athletes with guns”… honestly can’t think of a better description or higher praise…. Also, if you research the actual incident you will find that Marcus’ injures were actually far more severe than are portrayed…
6:03 in the stocking cap is the real Marcus Lutrell. Look up Marcus Lutrell take about his real life experience as Lone Survivor , a bunch on TH-cam and wow , amazing.
It all boils down to their squad talk about the rules of engagement. We can say what we would do as civilians but for them, it’s what they were trained to do and act. I’m just amazed at what they pulled off in that whole mess.
There’s several documentaries, “the warfighters” on history channel is on TH-cam it’s from the army rangers perspective and Marcus is also interviewed. Also another doc where the afghan guy who rescued Marcus is interviewed and he talks about surviving taliban assassination attempts and they kill his nephew, there’s several podcasts as well where different groups talk about that day and trying to get there and rescue him.
Also, the first news that broke was that a helicopter was shot down so they sent every branch of the military to that mountain to search, every special ops group including seal team 6 were there (rob O’Neil the guy who shot bin Laden) talks about being there on Marcus’s podcast. Most of the non navy seal searchers didn’t know there was a seal team on the ground until a couple days into the search.
Marcus wrote a book on the whole ordeal... obviously there's some dramatic license taken, but still very faithful to what happened... and the movie had the blessing of the real like Marcus who played a role in the movie
37:02 Shane Patton was really up for it when getting ready to fast rope down. All of it will disappear into ash the moment their Chinook got hit. Died on his FIRST deployment. R.I.P They really need those Apaches for that reason.
You know, something you should check out. Even though it’s not a movie. But is nevertheless amazing, is “Generation Kill” it’s about the first invasion of Iraq in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom. And follows a company of Recon Marines. Definitely worth a watch. A cool little detail about the making of this movie. Marcus Luttrel, was on set to personally train the actors on how to move, how to shoot, and how to communicate. In his words, when speaking to the cast. “You’re not going to fail my brothers” And speaking to the cast themselves, Danny Dietz’ mother said at the premiere “Thank you, for giving our son back to us for two hours”
The movie is brutal but the books: Lone Survivor; Black Hawk Down; We Were Soldiers Once and Young are even more personal & hard to read than the movie.
Other military/war dramas to watch are 13 Hours, Generation Kill and The Pacific. The Navy SEALS are one of the U.S.'s elite military forces, the others being The Army Green Berets, Army Rangers, Marine Corps MARSOC Raiders and Air Force Para Rescue
I heard the during negotiations to make the movie, the producers wanted to add things Marcus said never happened and they wanted to "Hollywood" it. He said no! He finally through up his hands and told them that if they disrespected his friends (fellow Seals), in any way, he would hunt them down and kill them all. They got the point!
I've read a couple of what I thought were nasty articles calling into question Marcus's book and the details in it. I don't remember all their gripes but one was that they didn't face off against as many Taliban as depicted in the film. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I do believe they were way outnumbered even if it wasn't as many as shown in the film. I've read the book Marcus wrote, I enjoyed it, the information side of it, but I didn't enjoy the writing style. I would still recommend it though. I think the guys were shot up even more than the film portrays, which is crazy. And how anyone survived two falls down that mountain, wtf is that? That's just crazy. I love the film, tears me up every time I see it. There is an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer named after Michael: USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112), commissioned in 2012.
20:37 You would think that would be the case. Apparently what that old man actually said to them was “You’re all going to die tonight”. I am not sure if its true but thats what I heard. Pretty messed up.
This format out of necessity left so much out. I highly recommend checking out the book or audiobook by the same name. It's definitely worth it! Also, the author of the book (Mark Wahlberg's character) is the man at Bagram with the black beanie on his head.
The most brutal and insane detail I heard in an interview with Marcus, was that Axe was really shot in the head and kept fighting, but it didn't look anything like when Ben Foster's character has a bulging eye in the movie. In real life, Marcus was speaking with him, but the only thing he recognized on his friend´s face when he spoke with him, was his lower lip. Everything else was gone, and he had no idea why he was still alive with his entire face missing. Must have been a very haunting sight to see :(
You know, I just recently discovered this. But apparently, what the old shepard says to the SEALs as he's walking off. He's not thanking them for letting them go, but in truth is saying. And this is a rough translation. "You will all be dead tonight" which is just chilling when you consider the situation.
They also weren’t prisoners of war, they were literally kids and an old man who just wandered into the wrong place, killing then would’ve been 1000% illegal murder.
The Green Beret reaction channel to this said that old man (goat herder) said in their language “tonight you die” (or something like that) …that’s some scary stuff, cause he said it almost with a gentile like smile on his face. Just a bad situation!
They need to make a movie about the 160th SOAR, the chopper pilots flying the large transports. Those guys are mental, and Apache cover or not they will go in.
What is the craziest real-life war story you have ever heard?

Lol when you said "screw it, GO!" when the recuse crew was told they cannot fly without cover, knowing what was about to happen due to having no cover :P
20:46 “I feel like those two are pretty innocent.”
I read somewhere someone translated what the old man is saying in Farsi or Pashtun or whatever it is. He’s saying “we’re going to kill you. You’re all going to die, we’re going to kill you.”
Axe was indestructible
The guy that spilled the cup and asked Patton to clean it as his first task, he's the real Marcus Luttrell. After the Chinook helicopter was shot down, Army Rangers were deployed to assist Air Force Pararescuemen in the recovery of the bodies and the rescue of Marcus Luttrell. I've heard a rumor before saying that locals and talibans in the region heard helicopter noises (during the Navy SEALs' insertion) and are already suspicious that some American forces were in the area. If that's true then the SEALs' special reconnaissance mission has failed even before it started.
The irony is that the movie was alot less traumatic than what really happened. this was to make it just enough for normal folks to get an idea
What a haunting film
I watched interview with Peter Berg and they tried to duplicate the injuries they all received from the battle in the movie.
Omg you guys… I HIGHLY recommend reading marcus’s book. It’s sooooo good.
Actually if anything the real story is even more of A Hollywood story. It's just super crazy, and if you do research you'll know how much crazy it was. (All in all, if anything they made it less crazy then it was.)
Worst day to be a hero 💔
If you want to see more about Mike Murphy, check out Murph; the Protector. Very touching interviews with his family and friends.
The Thin Red Line.
A different look at WW2.
Marcus was actually on the set while filming and was in the movie
All I remember from this movie is that I was 100% distracted and focused on the score by one of my favorite bands (Explosions in the sky)
Marcus wrote a book on the whole ordeal... obviously there's some dramatic license taken, but still very faithful to what happened... and the movie had the blessing of the real like Marcus who played a role in the movie

Shane Patton was really up for it when getting ready to fast rope down. All of it will disappear into ash the moment their Chinook got hit. Died on his FIRST deployment. R.I.P
They really need those Apaches for that reason.
can't wait for whenever you guys get around to hacksaw ridge!
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe. Also RIP, Tina Turner, 1939-2023.
they did such an amazing job with the Movie,Rip to the fallen ones
You know, something you should check out. Even though it’s not a movie. But is nevertheless amazing, is “Generation Kill” it’s about the first invasion of Iraq in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom. And follows a company of Recon Marines. Definitely worth a watch.
A cool little detail about the making of this movie. Marcus Luttrel, was on set to personally train the actors on how to move, how to shoot, and how to communicate. In his words, when speaking to the cast. “You’re not going to fail my brothers”
And speaking to the cast themselves, Danny Dietz’ mother said at the premiere “Thank you, for giving our son back to us for two hours”
You guys NEED to watch Captain philips!!!

You would think that would be the case. Apparently what that old man actually said to them was “You’re all going to die tonight”. I am not sure if its true but thats what I heard. Pretty messed up.
Omg I love this movie! I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to it. I can watch this multiple times and never get sick of it
I don’t know who picks your movies for reactions but whoever they are, they are legends 🫡. We shall be there
As far as I know, the people on Patreon do the choosing. 🙂

20:38 The old man says, "You will all die today"
I saw somewhere that what the old man said translates to “you will die today” or something like that
I actually really appreciate both this film and you guys reacting to it. It’s pretty powerful.
That old man told them they were going to die before the sun rises.
Great movie.
Must have been a very haunting sight to see :(
Battle of Los Angeles is pretty good too its an alien vs military movie but i love the actors+storyline💐🥰pls watch yellowjackets too! Youll love it 😅
Also, Into the Wild is a fantastic Emile Hirsch movie that’s worth a reaction. Good vibes.
Fun fact: people from Alaska hate that man, and think he is an idiot. Not Emile Hirsch. Learned that from a guy from there
You know, I just recently discovered this. But apparently, what the old shepard says to the SEALs as he's walking off. He's not thanking them for letting them go, but in truth is saying. And this is a rough translation. "You will all be dead tonight" which is just chilling when you consider the situation.
The old man was not innocent by any means…. He told them as he was leaving “ Hear this, your deaths will be tonight. Your deaths will be tonight.”
Mike Murphy received the medal of honor for his sacrifice. 😢
God bless all of the soldiers who died during Operation Red Wings. Marcus Luttrell is an American hero.
In case you missed it, the real Marc Luttrel had a cameo. He's the guy who tips the cup over at the lunch table.
This film hurts but is so necessary. Marcus Luttrel is a hero and is alive because of that village and his brothers
Completely agree
It violates the Geneva Convention to kill prisoners of war. Nice take. LOL.
They also weren’t prisoners of war, they were literally kids and an old man who just wandered into the wrong place, killing then would’ve been 1000% illegal murder.
The guy at the picnic table with the beenie on is the real marcus littrel.
The lone Survivor is a good movie. Very amazing story.
